Government has declared Wednesday, August 26 as a State Funeral in honour of the late John Mwanakatwe who died on Sunday at the University Teaching Hospital (UTH).
Chief Government Spokesperson, Ronnie Shikapwasha announced this in Lusaka today in a statement released to ZANIS.
Lieutenant General Shikapwasha, who is also Information and Broadcasting Services Minister said the Zambian flag will tomorrow fly at half mast and solemn music will be played on both radio and television from 06:00hrs to 18:00hrs.
Lt-Gen. Shikapwasha said burial for the late Mr Mwanakatwe will take place at the old Leopards Hill cemetery to be preceded by a valedictory session at the Lusaka High Court at 08:30 hours.
This will be followed by a church service at the Cathedral of the Holy Cross at 09:30 hours.
The late veteran educationist and lawyer was one of Zambia’s founding fathers and freedom fighter who rose to be the first minister of Education, Finance and secretary General of the republic of Zambia.
