Chief Government Spokesperson Ronnie Shikapwasha has labeled Post Newspaper Editor In-chief Fred M’membe a ‘coward’.
Lt. Gen Shikapwasha, who is also Information and Broadcasting minister, has challenged Mr. M’membe to surrender and avail himself to the Police or law enforcement agencies like Post News Editor Chansa Kabwela has done, rather than hiding.
He hailed Ms Kabwela ,who is facing pornographic charges, as a brave woman for her co-operation with law enforcement agencies.
“M’membe is a coward. Why hide instead of facing the judiciary. His News Editor Chansa Kabwela is therefore brave…..I challenge him to avail himself to the police than to frustrate and waste time for judiciary,” he said.
Lt-Gen Shikapwasha, who was speaking in an interview with ZANIS in Lusaka today, said police and other law enforcement agencies are on high alert to arrest Mr M’membe.
On September 2 2009, Lusaka Chief resident Magistrate Charles Kafunda issued a bench a warrant for the arrest of Mr. M’membe who was by press time still at large.

What is shikapwasha talking about?? Does it mean that Mmembe has some score to setle with the MMD-thieves? Shikapwasha you have no authority to judge mmembe, let the police talk. Why are you hijacking the authority of the police. Let Mmembe face the law if he has done any thing wrong but you should not intimidate him. When are you going to grow Shikapwasha? @6 Magistrate Charles Kafunda’s bench warrant has been neutralised by a stay of execution. Judge Wood better take a good look at his contract. Kanganja, pen in hand and frothing at the mouth, is waiting for His Master’s Voice.
Why would Ronald Shikapwasha direct the police to be on high alert as though Mmembe has committed a crime that is almost equal to episonage? This just goes to show how desperate this gov has become. Shikapwasha is just making Mmembe look good in this case… if anyone doubted the govt’s victimisation this is proof. Contempt of court isn’t such a big felony, in most cases the judge would just ‘detain’ you in the court perimiters for a day of working hours. But Ronald wants to make it sound like the man has murdered somebody. He should put the police on high alert for those MMD cadres who stab people. In my opinion, Mmembe is not a coward, he is just worried this govt and their police will victimise him and torture him to death.

Plus the warrant was for the Editor-in-chief and not Mmembe as a person. The magistrate was told that the Editor-in-chief at the time was Sam Mujuda and Mmembe was on leave but he still insisted Mmembe should have turned up… how dumb is that? Doesn’t this man know that if a President leaves the country, the Vice President assumes responsibilities of the President (can someone give him this analogy?). This is just a political skirmish to try and get at Mmember… they have tried everything and they can’t find anything to arrest this man who is a thorn in their fat flesh. The dumb thing about this govt is that they pursue petty issues that can embarrass them even to the outside world… are they that desperate? This will boomerang in their face, like an aboriginal hunting tool!
If Mmembe was arrested on Wednesday, it would have meant him being in the cells up to Monday. It would have been better for him to be arrested on Monday morning and taken to court at 08.30. Simple logic bakamba. FRED ULICHAUME!
what happened was that before court sat, that kama magistrate sent a ka court clerk to check if mmembe was in court. when it was established he wasn’t, he came and called the case and again when it was discovered that mmembe was officially not there, he adjourned for 10-15 minutes. i am sure he went to make a call to state house and george kunda to ask what he should do. he even found mujuda guilty without plea. what a shame, what a mockery of justice. They are giving you what you want because should other cases be decided the other way they will question you to say, if it works for you they why say it is being influenced

In a situation were jungle law is practiced and justices adjudicate according to their supreme commander the President, availing yourself to such courts is suicide. Mmembe has done what a normal and sane person should do, distance himself from such buildings. Have you guys forgotten what just happened to the Monkey at State House? What law did that monkey break to be sentenced to perpetual hunger at Munda Wanga?

Mmembe is no coward. He is just doing what a reasonable person would do.
