President Rupiah Banda has called for hard work, patriotism and efficiency in the country.

The President said this at Mkaika during the celebration of the Kulamba traditional ceremony of the Chewa people in Katete today.

The ceremony attracted hundreds of people from Malawi, Mozambique, Zambia and other countries. In his speech, President Banda emphasized that for development to take place in the country, there is need for hard work, patriotism and efficiency.

President Banda said Government would continue to support cultural activities such as the Kulamba traditional ceremony which is a cultural heritage that plays a central role in the socio-economic development of any society.

The President further assured the people of Eastern Province that Government would continue supporting the agriculture and other sectors.

He assured the gathering that Government had already disbursed fertilizers and other farming inputs to all the districts in readiness of the next farming season.

Speaking during the same function, Mozambican Minister of Education, Inais Bonfacio Ali expressed his gratitude to be part of this year’s Kulamba traditional ceremony.

He said Mozambique respects chiefs and traditional leaders because they help in the development process.

Mr. Ali said traditional ceremonies are a platform for the exchange of ideas and the fostering of unity.

And speaking on behalf of Malawian President Dr. Bingu Wamtharika, Malawian Minister of Local Government, Dooal Gondwe said that Zambia and Malawi have worked together for a long time and continue to share many ideals of common interest.

He described the ceremony as a unifying factor for Mozambique, Zambia and Malawi.

He said the ceremony was not for celebration only, but a springboard for the development of the three countries.

  1. The two head of state did not show up but rather sent their ministers..only our TOURIST president was there, very INTERESTING..oh..yah

  2. Personally though i am a christian, i do not sympathize with some people because of their attitude to others. They are people in this world who think when they are in power they owe everything such that they look at people under then as if they are useless. Only God has absolute power. Politicians learn something about your friends death. May Teta Rest in Peace if he is died. Ninshi Kwashala Rupiah.

  3. According to post Thandiwe Banda has gone for three days holiday in Kenya of course using tax payers money. Is Thandiwe a civil servant to be granted leave and holiday at the expense of taxe payers? RB is here to destory zambia.

  4. YES confirmed on QFM Teta has finally gone died, BREAKING NEWS: MINISTER OF LOCAL GOVERNMENT AND HOUSING BEN TETAMASHIMBA HAS DIED ::: ::

  5. What is the purpose of heads of states attending these traditional ceremonies, is it a way of promoting tourism or what? It’s does not have a precedence in the Zambian history, is it a new thing?

  6. i cant access zambian stations online, i really wanted to hear it for my self,,,not that im happy but how life can easily evaporate

  7. Teta RIP. Confirmed on Muvi TV at midnight news. Next Mulongoti, then George Kunda, then VJ then Danny Kalale then ………….

  8. I have never seen such uncharitable people. Let Teta Rest in Peace. He has a wife and children and the comments of some are not only insensitive and hurtful but they are also EVIL. No one should hate so much.

  9. Someone has died and people are dancing on the body before it is buried. Have some compassion, you might hate the man but he was not Pol Pot or Hitler. As for Thandiwe’s holiday where is the evidence that she is using tax payer’s money? Even if she is, is she not entilteld to some benefits as the wife of the elected leader of the countr? Too many small minded and petty people on Lsk Times.

  10. Unless one is immortal, death awaits every human being and Hon Tetamashimba’s time has just come. He has accomplished his earthly mission and we thank God for heaven’s grace and faithfulness. As a party spokesman, Hon.Tetamashimba executed his task within the mandate with passion and courage expected of a ruling party mouth piece. We pride in his life and now his death.

But in the departure of Moses, the good lord always brings in a Joshua to soldier on with the collective mission.Institutions are the same and the cause is collective. We mourn our brother and compatriot with pride, compassion and dignity. With his family and constituency, we are together in their pain.

Rest with God’s Eternal Grace Hon.Tetamashimba.

  11. To be honest, this thing of Banda attending all stupid traditional ceremonies is striking a lunatic level. Just what the hell is this man’s purpose of being president? This is now getting so embarrassing, sending invitations to Mtharika Mbigu and the Mozambiqan one and none of them showed up should teach Kanitundila a lesson that some presidents are busy trying to find a solution to problems that their countries face. For him, it’s Swaziland, Libya, now Mkaika, all inside of 1 week. And of what benefit are all these trips to Zambia, ZERO.

  12. If its true Satamashimba is kaput, its glad death has nailed that big mouth for nothing boot licker abd silenced him for good. How I just hope the shadow of the valley of death now moves fast to cast its shadow in Kunda, Shikapwasha and Mulongoti. These chaps should also stop talking about 2011 now because from what we can foresee, very few of them are going to be there. Even the Banda of theirs they are pushing, we’ll see, the MMD could easily be without a candidate come 2011 because thos old cow of them could expire a few days before the polls when candidate filling for the top job are closed.

  13. # 21 ukutumpa ichimutwe……………well the country is mourning yet again….. and again soon ukuchusha abantu pafula ba kwindi…………….play gospel music this week…….ha ha aha aha aha aha aha aha aha aha aha ahaa aha aaha ahaa aha aaha aaha ahaa aha aaha aha aaha ahaa aha aaha aha aaha aha ahaa aha aha ahaa aha aha aha aha aha aa ahaaha ahaaha aha aha aha aha aha

  14. It sounds like RB is a roving Zambian ambassador. When does he ever work, when he is constantly flying around? Let us do him a favor and send him into early retirement.

  15. While others are busy scrambling for insulting space in the Lusaka based tabloid, blogs and chat rooms, RB typical of seasoned politicians is connecting with the grassroot voters around the country where they are.Through these official trips to ceremonies countrywide, the man with limited campaign time isbusy reminding them that i’m here with you and i’m the one running in 2011.Don’t forget me. The opposition as usual will start to move out of Lusaka 30 days before elections but have no time and resources at hand to reachout to voters around the country. They tumble, they start their usual mourning sessions for another 5 years. This is real ground politics not book theory politics at best.

  16. Observer,
You have lost it! HH has been ahead of RB in touring the grassroots; only that he does not get coverage by ZANIS, ZNBC and other government mouthpieces. You do not count ‘winning’ by rigging’as winning! there is NO way MMD can win except by rigging.
