The Zambia for Empowerment and Development (ZED) has disclosed that it will officially launch its party on October 17, this year where it is also expected to unveil its full team.
ZED Interim President Fred Mutesa disclosed the development in an interview in Lusaka today.
Dr. Mutesa said the date was finally arrived at after consultations with the provincial leaderships in the eight provinces of the country where the party has so far been established.
He said the official launch and the unveiling of the party’s leadership has however delayed because of the provincial tour the party had embarked on after its formation in June this year.
“The Party was supposed to be officially launched this September but we have delayed because we were still conducting provincial tours of which we have so far being established in eight of the nine provinces in the country and are only remaining with Southern Province” he said.
Dr. Mutesa has further disclosed that the party will not take part in any parliamentary and local government by- elections slated for October 15 this year.
He however said the party will only decide if they will contests in future by-elections after the official launch although it has already resolved to contest for the 2011 general polls.
Dr. Mutesa added that the ZED party will hold its convention in the last quarter of next year after putting things in place in readiness for the 2011 general elections.
Dr. Mutesa said the party is also encouraged by the support it has received around the country since announcing its formation in June this year.
Dr. Mutesa said the party will work for the common good of the ordinary citizens in the country.
He said his party remains focused on extending citizens to political, independence and social empowerment.

Too many political parties. Same principles though different presidents
Too many political parties. Same principles though different presidents.
Is this DR Mutesa (UNZA) if so the Dr has lost it. He wouldnt have formed his own party. He is a very good political analyst but i doubt if he is a good politician. There we go more vote splitting in 2011 ZED party doesnt sound good at all. We are allergic to being empowered.
Another intemba party my foot
PULIZ tapapata,not the nonsense!
Nshing’anga Mutesa apena,
In Zambia I have never seen a single person who has ever had that capacity to build a party which he started by himself; and make it vibrant even to contest elections and win seats ;; but one man SATA;; the rest have but to team up. if you start as an individual you will wear down and lose your political carear at the same time, human beings are really difficult to manege; if you form that party today you will have to wait for 20years to become president if you will be patient enough.
The right to belong, associate and form political parties include that of forming sub political parties for the purpose of enhancing effectiveness at the ballot. This could be part of a standard tactic in political history used to draw the protest vote and allow people to vent frustration while posing no threat to the Mother party’s favored candidate.Go on Mutesa and exercise your right. The New Generation party is wishing you all the Best and is ready to dialogue with you in areas of National and political developments and corporation.
ABENA ZAMBIA NABO. WHERE DO THEY THINK THEY ARE GOING?
Long overdue development…..
By the way LT write another story Maureen Mwanawasa has said she is not standing for the presidency in 2016 she wants a quiet life. Please Correct your story…
These are the parties my late friend would’ve called wardrobe type.MHSRIP. Dr Mutesa is a good day dreamer, but I like his courage, it is not small time to think yourself as a presido!! However, he is far too late and out to spoil the match between MMD and The Pact. Anyway go ahead and share the very few votes left for the pact….MMD will never lose power, no matter who stands!!!
Opposition and vote splitting! Pa ZED zoona. Tomorrow you start crying that MMD has rigged yet you are the splitting votes. Good luck. By the way is Prof. Clive Chirwa your member?
The cause for all this is the mediocre leadership now prevailing in the country. It’s a full time circus with no shortage of clowns.

I will not be supprised if the Dr’s party is sponsored by the Movement of Mad Dogs to split the vote in the opposition camp. Mutesa, look beyond your nose and join the pact before you throw your integrity to the wind. having meetings with finished VJ in the dark won’t help u
Stop complianing mwe bantu.. Why can’t you yourselves become leaders so that we can vote properly? Mukondema kondema fye with no action!! Mucinje
