The Patriotic Front /United Party for National Development (PF/UPND) pact says the Kasama Parliamentary by election will provide a litmus test for its popularity.
Meanwhile, the PF/UPND Pact and the ruling MMD will tomorrow announce their candidates for the Kasama Central by election slated for October 15.
Pact Co-spokesperson, Given Lubinda said in an interview in Lusaka today that the Kasama parliamentary by –election will show case the popularity of the pact in the area.
Mr. Lubinda said the pact has worked hard to ensure that it wins the forthcoming by – elections, this time around
He said the pact has learned lessons from the Chitambo by-elections and has checked every threat adding that no stone has been left unturned.
Mr. Lubinda, who is also PF spokesperson, said the pact is certain of victory in the October 15th Kasama by-elections gauging by the amount of support they have received from the people in the constituency.
“The people started campaigning for us in 2007 after, Dr. Chishimba rebelled against the party, so all this time the people has been calling for his resignation and when he resigned it was a relief for us.
” The party is now bubbling with confidence that we will have a sure victory,” He said.
He further said the pact had not yet announced the name of its candidate for the by-elections as it was awaiting its Central Committee verification programme on prospective candidates before a final one can be picked in Kasama.
Mr. Lubinda said the Central committee had gotten all the information on all the 12 candidates willing to be candidates under the PF/UPND pact but had halted in order for them to get verification from the district and provincial committee in Northern Province.
He said the pact wants to be sure of who will represent them in the October 15 by election adding that they want a credible candidate who will give them a sure victory.
He said the leadership in the province has listed all the 12 according to their abilities and will hand over the names to the party secretariat today but will announce tomorrow.
Meanwhile the pact has distanced itself from political parties have started campaigning in Kasama even before the Electoral commission of Zambia (ECZ) declared date of September 17 to October 14.
Mr. Lubinda said his party has hearkened to the set laws and will only start campaigning after the nomination day on Thursday this week.
The Movement for Muilti-Party democracy (MMD) has also announced that they will announce there candidate tomorrow.
This is the second by elections that the recently formed PF/UPND pact will participate the first one was Chitambo which was scooped by the MMD while the pact won the majority of the wards by-elections.
ZANIS
good direction for the pact, we need this type of thinking
I like Lubinda he seems sensible. Is he indian ish?
Hi Mushota. It is obvious that the man(Lubinda) is half muntu. We are not interested in the colour of his skin but the contents of his grey matter. I hope you are not planning to start another racial war!
I cant believe people are still concerned with Mushota. To put it simple, Mushota is a troll who enjoys agitating bloggers. Let him/her be and he/she will go away. If you feed trolls, they’ll keep coming back.
Now to the story, how many litmus tests are we going to have? Didn’t they say the same thing about Chitambo or maybe I am hallucinating. MMD will win Kasama.
Its evident that the pact is about to carry the day!
mushota, haha so u are attracted to him? aparently i heard u dislike zambian (black men). easy, he must be tooo old for you
Mushota…… I hope you re not one of those things who were found along the addis ababa Rd….. Loi
This Mushota always sounds like a hule. Yes this by election will be another testmony which will give pipo chance to asses the impact of PF/UPND Pact for 2011 presidential election.
Hope U have picked a local person. By this I mean a person who is resident in the area and not someone who lives in Lusaka like GBM.
Development can only be fostered properly by someone who is affected by the local conditions and not just because a person hails from Kasama.
The voters should take note of this fact if they are to have development in their areas. There is no need of having absentee MPs who only show up during the time of elections.
Lubinda has kicked the campaign for MMD, yes if the pact looses they are done. Zambian politicians have a big problem expressing themselves…….
Somebody is masquarading as the realit. I am the sworn Realist on this blog so #3, please find your patch and call yoursef by your real identity. I do not talk about skin colour but people’s abilities.
it seems this pact is only composed of lubinda, sata and HH who looks like he’s joined ba sata in taking the herb.for once in my life f* *k the opposition! viva RB!
Goodevening late night bloggers
I really yearn for a fresh, positive wind of change in Zambian politics but I’m really not sure yet if this pact can bring it. Time will tell.
Off-topic: I have noticed that Mushota is quite up-front and direct in her speech and thus disliked by some bloggers, bringing in mind ta few “controversial” bloggers like Ghost Dog, Ponyax, Fashion Police etc. who used to be very direct too, sometimes obtaining a black eye in the process, but they kept coming back to tell everyone how they felt. In short, I think these are the people that make blogging lively. I think It would be quite boring to read dry analogies through out..
Fwaka Ba Lubinda! is this a qualification for P.F?
I wonder why some bloggers are disrespecting Lubinda, he has been very instrumental in defending his party and now the pact.
Kasama is in the hands of the pact, MMD cannot win in Kasama. They will try hard to rig and steal but far from winning.
Today bloggers I ask myself, how am I helping my country develop? It has come to my attention that a lot of the old time bloggers do not show up or are fed up with LT. Please one day come by greet us, so as we let you know that we still exist and are helping our families and friends back home get educated; so too they have opportunities and luxuries such as we have abroad. Some are married and have wonderful wives, some are students contributing to the African takeover of the prestigious crown of being the most high achieving student imports here in the US. To those around the world thankyou for thge change we are bringing to our country, for Zambia needs us and thus we all have to answer the call in our own little ways. May the Lord bless you guys as he blesses me, for all honour is his
I pray for this pact to work, though I would prefer a more morally upright leader like Miyanda to arise, but as always I know he is calm, thus he needs a little lit coal under his bossom. Please do not attack Mushota, she shall see the light one day, pray for our sister, who knows maybe thats her preference, you guys do not condem Muzo when he talks of blonde girls, I love black women because that my preference but to one his own, remember pick a God fearing woman guys always smart wise and intelligent too
What litmus test you also…thats what you said before the chitambo fiasco…comeon, thats a PF seat ,how can u test your popularity in your own backyard…This chap thinks all Zambians are as dull as PF/UPND cadres!!
If katele Kalumba said those words maybe it would have made some sense.
What impact will the ”PACT” play in a province that is 99.9% bemba dominated and based on the last elections UPND got ZERO.
WHY CANT HH STAND IN KASAMA CENTRAL. THIS WILL BE PROOF OF A SOLID PACT
TYPICAL KAPONYA THINKING. …….. UPND HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH KASAMA …. THIS FOOL KNOWS KASAMA IS A BEMBA HQ AND THE HEART BEAT OF PF…..IT IS FOLLY AND SILLLY TO USE KASAMA AS A LITMUS TEST FOR THE PACT. CHITAMBO WAS A BETTER TEST.
does this Lubinda chap smoke weed with Sata……He cant think properly. how can kasama central be a litmus test for PF/UPND pact???/ it can only be tested if you put a UPND chap instead of a PF cadre…It would be stupid to do so in your stronghold. stupid fools taking zambians for granted.
I am enjoying the debate, i know the pact will lose again, shame, shame………..!
people leave lulu alone, is there any person who will ever satisfy you?
These bye elections are serious money drainers. Why dont we have progressive ideas in this so called NCC of theirs suggesting that all MPs undergo medical fitness tests. How do the people of Zambia employ chaps (MPs) whose health status we dont know. For almost any job, you will advised to go for medicals. In fact the best would be for all potential MPs who are adopted by their Parrties to be examined by say two Doctors one of of which is hired by the National Assembly clinic. How is that people?
You all *****s and nincompoops what has Lubinda wronged you. Mwe nfinkula mwe. Leave us in the pact alone.
Ba MMD have adopted Barton Mugala a former ZESCO employee/footballer. He is a local businessman. He runs a private school and some lodges as well. We shall wait and see
Some Pastor was giving a 48 hrs ultimatum to Mpombo yesterday. Read Mpombo’s rxn in today’s POST: “If they forced a by-election, we would challenge them but it would be a very unpatriotic decision. If I stand, I can whip them like no man’s business. That much they know and if they didn’t know, they will find out. Kafulafuta is not a constituency that people can manipulate. I will not accept these jungle politics or any kangaroo court,” Mpombo said.
“We are ready for any eventuality. I am not stranded, politically. Our artillery forces, infantry, armored-personnel, squadrons of the latest fighters are on the ground in Kafulafuta waiting for orders. We are prepared for them. Our squadrons are ready to scramble in the air and destroy any MMD machinery in Kafulafuta.”
On Evangelical Youth Alliance International president Moses Lungu’s 48-hour ultimatum for him to stop attacking President Banda, Mpombo dismissed Lungu as having been hired.
“Skullduggery, that’s the nature of Lungu so if Rupiah Banda wants to use such questionable characters, I am prepared for a cross country fight with anybody who is using Lungu. Lungu is just a religious quack masquerading as a cleric. The last time I met this chap was when the late president Mwanawasa died and we were having a church service in Kanyama,” Mpombo said. “I went there with Mike Mulongoti and Gabriel Namulambe. After that, he has been pestering me for financial assistance and wanted me to connect him to the donors. He is a one-man army. For a long time he has been used as propaganda tool.”
“That one 48-hour ultimatum he is giving me, that’s too long; I want him and his handlers to bring it to two hours. His handlers must be prepared for the severe consequences,” Mpombo said. “He is opening up a political pandora’s box. I want to assure Lungu that he will get a very good fight. But I will go for his handlers instead of him.”
Mpombo said he was only against the MMD leadership and the manner they were running the party.
“I am talking against the leadership which is dragging the party into a terminal illness. Some selfish individuals within the party are the ones saying that let’s forego the convention. MMD is a dynamic party, what we are talking about is the leadership,” he said.
Mpombo said he had no reason to apologise to President Banda
“What for? In fact, each day I wake up I thank God for having made a decision to leave government. My resignation should not be linked to any kind of financial position. I just couldn’t continue under the leadership of Rupiah Banda,” Mpombo said. “These chaps must understand democratic governance, I was elected by the gallant people of Kafulafuta. I am representing the people of Kafulafuta I am not a nominated member of parliament myself, so that’s where my authority lies.”
Mpombo said he could also impose sanctions on the MMD as a party.
As other bloggers have said this by-election in Kasama can not be seen as a litmus test as Kasama is a PF strong-hold. If the pact is going to form the next government, they need to win in areas where they have historically been weak.
enya enya, lelo lelo ka Lungu, wapya kuli ba Mpombo.
Lets go guys…its not a matter of doubt that PF/UPND will win the Kasama bye ellection. That is written in black and white. Kasama is PF strong hold and I know that MMD will be whiped bad. If the Pact losesin Kasama then it would mean forgeting about the 2011 ellections.
This chap is finished ……. he is in the same category with Dr in nothing ( Dr with G12 certificate only) Dr Chishimba, so stupid to just resign as MP. Since when did these misfitsin the likes of f Mpombo become important . As far as the Post wants – whatever nonsense comes out of his dagga stained mouth , its news…..even if its fighting RB at all costs!!! please please not this CLOWN….He has always been a useless mp, minister, a beneficially of tribal linkages….How on earth can such a chap suddenly become the darling of The Post. he has no serious political base and financially kaya … a hule is better. the post expects to quote such chaps as authorities on all Zambian issues. God forgive this land.
Poeple need to learn that, politicians who are afraid of voters tend to perform better development in those countries is progressive. What we need in Zambia is a very strong voter education which will result in peoples wish carrying the day regardless of bribes given to them. Wake up mother Zed and liberate yourself.
Skullduggery, good word indeed. Meaning….”trickery: verbal misrepresentation intended to take advantage of you in some way.”
IAM THE BEST PERSON TO BE PRESIDENT OF ZAMBIA not RB!!……LEVI TOLD ME SO!!!!! Some pipo might think i have gone nuts! To show my seriousness I have resigned from NEc and cabinet . iam scared to resign from mmd….i have signed a cease-fire non-agression friendly forces PACT with the Post to help me win 2011. I need money please donate to y cause….. money can be deposited in my account: Zanaco – Westend Branch: a/cNO: 00001-9999-26897 Branch code: 01012987. pls note: mini donation: K250,000 or US50.00
~ 36. The POST like any other news medium will report what they think is newsworthy. That does not mean the person has become a darling. Even you can make headlines tomorrow, if you do a performance or talk newsworthy material today.
Last paragraph on Mpombo reads: ””When I do that by resigning that will be the beginning of the end of MMD in Copperbelt rural and they know that. But I will not resign because others may think they have defeated me,” Mpombo said. “I am not a political lightweight in Kafulafuta and they know that. If a situation arose… that of the party firing me, we will take the matter to its logical conclusion.”
MPOMBO SURVIVED MASALA LIFE. WHO ARE U #36 TO QUESTION MPOMBO. HE WHO SURVIVES THE BEVLERS OF MASALA RESTUARANTS SURVIVES THE SUNAMI. HE KNOWS IT ALL IN POLITICS. IT’S SERENGETI NATIONAL PARK. SURVIVAL OF THE FITTEST. AND THAT IS THE POST STYLE OF DOING BUSSINESS
ZA YELLOW WACHIMWELA. MWACHEPELWA BAKAPALA.
#36 The Post is anti-Govt in general. Check their history, it doesnt matter who is in Govt. There’s no Zambian Govt they loved. So anyoneone ati-Govt becomes their darling. It doesnt matter their character. Mpombo was in Govet, was he their darling at the time? Why now? Sata was in Govt with FTJ. Was he their darling? Why now. If RB got out of Govt and turned against the incumbert, he will become the darling of the Post.
Talk about Skullduggery, as #38 defined it….”trickery: verbal misrepresentation intended to take advantage of you in some way.”
The Post doesnt have much integrity. Just an observation.
ok , kasama will not be a litmus test to PF ,lubinda said it will be to the PACT.tamunfwa ichisungu.in any case ,the PF-UPND should try to talk the same language.lubinda can not say we will win like before .that would be falling to acknowlege the pact.whats wrong !!
Good lucky PF/UPND for kasama central but the real test will be in Solwezi central .If the pact wins Kasama & solwezi central then MMD should start parking before 2011because western cannot be relied as well things can change all the sudden.
Ba Vera Chiluba Tembo hospitalised at UTH sure and Mactribouy died some time back, kashi nishi and Hon Bonshe still in Hospital kaya mama
The real litmus test for the pact will be in Kafulafuta and Chilanga, Mpombo(Wibilima!) and Magande(nomics), respectively, are about to get the boot! Kasama Central is PF no doubt. Lets wait for Shakafuswa to **** up too! Then we will have areal litmus boom!
Every normal thinking person know it that PF is carrying the day in Kasama central by election.Unless an insane person can dipute this.wake up come on thinkers.
ok but GBM may disappoint them. He is not a popular figure in kasama
#4 is dreaming. There is no way MMD can win in Kasama central. I agree 100% with #49 and # 50
People, here is a scenario and it is all assumption but likely. Assume that PF/UPND pact is more popular in Kasama Central but have fielded a ‘less suitable’ candidate. MMD is less popular but have fielded a ‘more suitable’ candidate. When it comes to voting, what should override peoples choices as they cast their votes?
Mushota……can we hook up?????i ride clean u know…got a hearse on 22 inch Chrome Sprewell rims…..i’m stuntin like tht…holla at ya boy.
