Police in Kabwe have maintained their position not to permit UPND/PF pact members to conduct a peaceful demonstration against former president Frederick Chiluba’s acquittal.

The UPND/PF pact has expressed disappointment with the police inspector general for canceling the permit which they claim was assured to them last week.

The UPND/PF pact had planned to stage a peaceful demonstration today from Lukanga school grounds to the office of the Provincial Minister Ackimson Banda to hand him a petition against former president Chiluba’s acquittal.

In a statement to ZANIS dated Sept 17th, 2009, signed by Provincial UPND Secretary Davy Siamuzulu and PF Provincial Information and Publicity Secretary Mutale Walicupa, the pact claimed the police had refused to give a go ahead to the demonstration.

The two said the reasons advanced by the police to refuse the pact to demonstrate to wait for the courts to dispose of the case was not valid and is unfortunate and disheartening.

They said after the police allegedly assured them that their plans would go ahead, they made preparations for the same which involved spending and the latest decision to refuse them the permit was disturbing.

Central Province Police Deputy Commanding Officer, Kaunda Mubanga said the police was still looking for ways to help the pact in the matter.

  1. People please, you should just get over it,the corrupt govnt of Banda has decided Chiluba is a free man, lets not waste our time,we now know where the court system in our country is. Its for small people like Kabwela who will be found guilty soon, big people are free

  2. Zambia police are MMD cadres and cannot be expected to allow a rival party a permit to demonsrate against the chief MMD strategist, Chiluba.

  3. So if you protest the what?
We’re in a tyrannical arrangement, the call the shots, u take orders without questioning!
How many demos ve bn organised against a particular thing b4, and yielded how many positive results? ZERO!!!

  4. ‘I said i stand by the rock, if anyone tries to come near they will fall’ Chiluba said, “When i said that people, laughed, but its is I, who will laugh last” that was the ex president’s speech still on you tube. I was disgusted to hear him say that. Who does he think he is, This is the man who should be in jail/ People like chiluba have corrupted zambia. When men are shown money (regardless when the are well paid or not ) they steel, especially African leaders and from experience zambian leaders. Temptation? A white man will make better leader in our country as the chances of them stealing are almost zero, because they fear prosection. I am glad i chose to marry an Irish man

  5. Brace yourselves for another FTJ’s leadership from the shadows of one Bezani Kumbuyo Banda! Elolwanya nomba! Wouldn’t be shocked if this chap is appointed V.P after 2011 kaili I don’t the Red Lipped Jackal (as kalaki puts it) standing on strong grounds upto that day!

  6. Whats with the opposition. Can’t they protest over more important issues. Chiluba has been acquitted, live with it. Elections were rigged and you didn’t protest..just talked loud. Even the opposition are a bunch of kak now. Zed is down and out politically

  7. NO COMMENT…………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………..

  8. Problem is even the opposition don’t seem to have reference records in their custody. How many things have they demonstrated upon, and with what achievement? Looks like the opposition is also of NO substance coz they keep focussing on matters that are well known cannot effect change at all. People are hungry for empowerment & development, yet you’re busy buying pipo to demonstrate on matters that are clear even from a smoke screen. The powers (NOT JUDICIAL LAW) have decided that let FTJ be free, so the only thing we should be working on, is how to get rid of such ones who don’t like business conducted in light, but darkness. True to Kazabu’s sentiments, FTJ stands guilty in the court of public morality, but in the Bwezani court, he’s a “free” man!

  9. why did they allow mmd cadres in Mansa to demostrate in solidarity with kafupi’s aquittal?. Ba Buju you are disgrace with your double standards.

  10. Demonstrating has never resulted anything. Whats wrong with these opposition leaders. The way to fight the MMD is to take them on in parliament. If the laws are wrong educate and enlighten your MPs so that they can repeal them. Demonstrations demonatrations. What example are they setting for the Uni students? No wonder the kids will never stop hitting the streets instead of dialogue

  11. If I recall correctly, didn’t a certain Mr Sata want to drop all charges against Chiluba in 2006? You got what you wanted so why demonstrate now? I think somebody needs to explain the meaning of the word ‘consistency’ to the king floor polish

  12. Zedan33 and Rewind Bwezani, the purpose of public demonstration is to show public displeasure over an issue in contention. It happens every where. Here in the USA public demonstrations are held frequently (can site Rev. Al Sharpton’s organization). Public demonstrations are a way of ‘putting on record’ the position/view of the people. Whether they achieve ‘anything’ is a matter of perception. If you barely want to put on record your displeasure on government’s position on the acquital.

  13. i totally agree with # 12……they celebrated Chiluba’s acquital in Mansa but why cant they allow the others to do the same in the opposite way….?

  14. #15 Tikambeko nafe :
Move on or just do as your name says , just watch. The point you are bring is not the issue and is water under the bridge. It is not the issue here. The issue is selective issuing of permits. Last week People in Kafupi’s provice demostrated in support of his aquittal I even wonder if they got permits. Why can’t the others be also allowed to exercise their democratic right

  15. #12 POLITICAL PROSTITUTE, I very much I agree with you. In Mansa the permit was given to show solidarity on the acquittal of Kafupi, the Police did not say those people in Mansa should wait for the courts of law to dispose of the case. Double standards by the Zambia Police.

  16. There iz no need to demonstrate against FTJ’s acquittal. Much az there may be a lot of grey areaz surrounding the whole saga. Even celebrating iz a far fetched thing to do.

  17. #12 & 18: Maybe the pact should have applied for a permit in Mansa. Maybe also situations are different. Maybe a demo by PF in Kabwe is likely to be unruly and violent as Mr Sata has already shown us in Kasam Central. Maybe, Maybe …..you never know with Cobra.

  18. # 16 here in Zed people will demonstrate, they will complain, they will criticise the govt in power to no end. When the elections come and the results announced the same critcised govt wins. With such I start to wonder who’s really complaining. Is it the people who vote or those who are not even bothered to vote. You are there in the states. Against all racial odds Obama won, my point is the strategy needs to change. Not just complaining and registering dipleasure for nothing. No wonder the hardcore politicians say let them talk but the current law says this so why worry

  19. The Israel HaYom newspaper reveals a leftist turn for Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu. Speaking in an interview to be published Thursday, the Prime Minister admitted he had come to terms with dividing the Land of Israel.“The land is already divided. How it will [yet] be divided, that is the question,” the newspaper reports.
In the interview, Netanyahu insisted that the new reality required “practical solutions”.“How will the land be divided?Territory-wise, there have been those who predicted the land would be divided according to the 1967 armistice lines, which is not acceptable to me. Israel requires defensible borders.”I know every place in this land, but there is a reality that exists regarding the million and a half Palestinians that live in the heart of the Jewish State.

  20. Lady Mushota # 7 your contribution was coming on well, but later on you opted to ruined it by your last comments. There are some white pipo who are like our Chiluba. Ever since I came to know about this site, have never heard of anyone talking about who there marrying or married to. This doesnt mean that there all married to the same race. We are tired of your irish guy comments. And dont think Zambia is short of leaders to be ruled by the Irish guy. Mushota you must grow up!!!!!!!!

  21. President Rupiah Banda is one of the first Western educated Zambians in the Diaspora so he the best man to appreciate our community. Not surprising that President Banda has opened a liaison office at State House to deal with issues concerning Zambians in the diaspora.President Banda said he had decided to set up a liaison office at State House to deal with issues related to Zambians based in the diaspora.“In addition, I have directed the minister of finance to work with the diaspora to facilitate their participation in growing the economy through investment in projects of their choice,” President Banda said.

On the media, President Banda said the government was considering privatizing some government run and controlled media organisastions.

“I wish to inform this House that my…

  22. The pact should be campaigning in Kasama central and not complain about trivial issues. This pact will struggle to defeat MMD because their major preoccupation is tribalism.

  23. Congratulations Diaspora Connect and Zambia Blog Talk Radio. After numerous consultations and Radio interviews with Finance Minister (Dr Musokotwane) and ZDA’s Andrew Chipwende, among others, the annoucement has been made and now the Diaspora Desk is a reality. Way to go guys.

  24. Just forget about Chiluba’s acquital, accept his freedom. These people are all the same, last time it was Sata who was saying if voted as president he will release Chiluba, now he is the first one to demonstrate over his acquital simply becoz Chiluba is fond of Bwezani, do you see the logic there? They are all thieves time will come when God will give us a good leader.

  25. Chiwamila galu, it was good for them to celebrate in Luapula, but for us it is a sin. Anyway sekelenimo our time will also come

  26. There is no justice pa Zed, its better to forget about Kafupi and his crew.Too much time has already been wasted and nothing has been recovered. Though we as Zambian pipo find Chiluba
Guilty, the court is not capable of doing their work hence they set him free. All those years spend in University/college studying law is a waste coz corruption is their best friend. lol what a shame.
Kafupi you will confess at your dying bed that what you did to all of us is unforgettable. I HOPE YOU WILL BURN IN HELL

  27. #19 I assume you were going to vote for PF in 2006 when Sata said that he would drop all charges against Chiluba but now you want to protest against the decision you were going to vote for? You are as inconsistent as King floor polish. I for one think the demonstration should go ahead but all politicians should be careful of what they say. The point i am raising is not about the demonstrations per se, but about the quality of leadership we have at the moment. How and why should I want somebody to be in power whom I can not trust? The issue of Chiluba’s corruption was a serious matter and should be above politiking by people like Sata or Banda for that matter.

  28. I am reading alot of disconfort from Micheal. I would love to see how this one plays out. I at one point believed Michael had become more popular than FTJ. I cannot not predict how this one will end up. One thing I know for sure is that this ka mudala how ever you may wish to describe him, he is capable of upseting and reseting the Sata trend we have seen in the past two election. It seems to me Sata knows that too well. lacking ability to read Banda’s game, they are dancing to his tune. I am watching the space with interest.

  29. I gree with you No 3, they will never go anywhere because of the reginal politics. I don’t think tonga’s can vote for king cobra and bemba’s voting for prince cobra. Open your minds otherwise you wont stop crying you babies.

  30. We seem to have short memories when it comes to these so-called leaders. Can poverty bring about such desperation? We are sick and tired of recycled politicians, and it’s about time that they retired to their villages and let our generation take the reigns. Why does RB keep proclaiming that Zambia is democratic, when he cannot he even allow a simple demonstration? Does freedom of assembly exist in Zambia? Apparently not. Why should MMD thugs and be allowed to celebrate a thief (Chiluba), but block legitimate demonstrations? The police should stop being bootlickers and do their job impartially. Enough!!!

  31. IWE # 7 you are just a slut who is interested in white men.from your analysis i can see that you are just a chap without any sensible contributions.ulechita fye ubu hule .stop wasting your time blogging

  32. mushota alifye bwino .she is upset and she is saying she would love to be with a zambian ,but the situation forces her into where she is.it is only fair to feel that way.we need to learn to talk about how we feel .we seem to be logical about everything.what you feel about something will make you do something about it.it is not what you think about something.tel us how you feel mushota .like most bloggers the feel disapointed about our leadership ,you too feel that way except you personalise it.nothing wrong with that

  33. #42 nothing personal.we are all disappointed by the political leadership at home.but the Mushota chap always diverts from real issues.are you saying she should do what she feels even ubu hule because she is entitled to her own feelings?are you a blogger or you are one of those spies who just want to get information here.by the way did you listen to the Presidential speech when he was opening parliament?Hon. Mpombo described the speech as hollow.Where are we going with such calibre of mediocre leadership ?

  34. Here we again. we need to give equal basic rights to our pipo, not whats happening here. i urge you all to start lobbying with your law makers and NCC delegates to change our constitution and bring it the 21as centuary

  35. There is no real democracy in zambia, africa even. Wat we hv is a mockery of democracy. Bakapokola r the biggest fools to be controlled like that..Pheeeeew!

  36. The MMD government has outlived its usefulness and has become a danger to democracy! I think its time we removed them from power.

  37. When I was young, only grade 7 failures used to join the police. Has anything changed? How can the Kabwe ones fail to know that poiticians change hands all the time, and their next boses may be PF or UPND or UNIP? Does this make any sense policeman? Hello bwana, what’s your problem?? Maybe the application forms should have been printed in Nyanja. Smile, brother, this is just politics.

  38. RUPIAH HAS ALMOST ALL THE POLICE IN HIS WALLET. THE ONLY ONES LEFT ARE SOLOMON JERE AND BRENDA MUTEMBA. DAMN THIS NEGROE!!

  39. All animals are equal but some are more equal than others. We are in realy animal farm. when MMD wants permit it is give in time but when it is others the police will have no manpower.what a country . People should not forget that when you are a leader today others will beleaders tomorow.and they will play the same game..So be good to others for you will need them on your way down.
