Among the many activities that await President Banda is his address of the UN General Assembly on Thursday, September 24th, 2009.
He will also participate in bilateral diplomacy talks with various heads of state and government that would be attending the General Assembly.
Zambia’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Lazarous Kapambwe said this when he met the Zambian advance team in New York, today, that President Banda would also meet US President Barak Obama when the latter meets various heads of state and government from the sub-Saharan African region next week.
Mr. Obama is expected to hold talks with Sub-Saharan African leaders to discuss the relationship between this region and the United States of America.
Ambassador Kapambwe further disclosed that the President will also meet United States of American business houses and people where he will showcase Zambia’s business opportunities.
“He is also expected to participate in the launch of ALMA, which is the African Leaders Malaria Alliance, which will be launched by President Jakaya Kikwete here,” he said.
First Lady Tandiwe Banda who is accompanying the President will have a separate programme she will participate. Also in the delegation are several cabinet ministers and other top government officials.
Meanwhile, security has tightened at the UN secretariat as scores of heads of state and government are expected in New York in the next few days for the UN General Assembly.
The President is afterwards expected to connected to travel to Cuba for a three day State visit at the invitationof his counterpart Raul Castro Ruz.
Meanwhile, UN Secretary General, Ban Ki Moon will convene the summit on climate change on Tuesday, September 2009 in which over 90 member states will participate. UN has a total of 192 member states around the world.
The objective of this summit on climate change is to mobilise political will and generate the momentum needed to reach an ambitious agreement at the UN Climate Conference that will be held in Copenhagen in December 2009.
Mr. Ki-Moon will also hold a luncheon that would bring together representatives of government, business, civil society and the UN to discuss how to build positive momentum for climate negotiations and the role of business and industry in finding solutions to climate change.
Other key issues the Assembly will address are Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), world financial and economic crisis and its impact on development, disarmament, UN reforms, including Security Council reform and revitalization of the General Assembly.
It will also review the peace building commission and the Human Rights Council as well as consider issues relating to system wide coherence, sustainable development and HIV/AIDS.
The General Assembly was established in 1945 under the UN Charter as a chief deliberative, policymaking and representative organ of the UN.
ZANIS
Knowing RB, he’ll be just dozing in all these meetings.
We are in for a shock. This guy belongs to Africa and not the USA. He will embrass every Zambian in the diaspora. I for one will try and stay away. I will be on self-imposed stateless until he leaves the US. Hope somebody will ask him about the monkeys!
Who is accompanying him? I hope not the likes of Mulongoti or Shikapwasha but if he is accompanied by people like Dr. Musokotwane or Mutati that should be okay. I am sure Inonge will do the rest and now allow Zambiato be embarassed by this head of ‘Kanitundila administration’. I am sure Obama will joke with him by asking what adminsitration do you head? And he will say not the ‘New deal’ but the ‘Kanitundila Administration’. And Thandiwe will ask for Mbeba for breakfast before Michelle advises her that roddents are not food in the USA. Ndipo yayi tizasebana zoona.
GLOBE TROTTER; HAVE A BLESSED HOLIDAY BWANA PRESIDENT.
IT IS TRUE BAKAYAFWE MUKULALA PANTHU NABAKOTA
What is Bwezani going to talk about the UN? What new ideas will bring to the table? What an embarrassment to Zambia. If any of you bloggers based in NY will have the misfortune of seeing this guy, please don’t hold back and tell him how you feel. Why is he even going to Cuba of all places?
We ar definately waiting for you sir, please dont embarrass us. unfortunately very few americans we will understand RB Heavy english language
i will take him on tour of our local strip clubs. that will be him busy and awake!
RB is Vasco Da Gama
at least for a change he is attending an important meeting, I hope he knows what he is going to do there! But visiting Cuba!
What an embarasssment we have in Banda. i hope he won’t nothing tribal in Newyork. Give him space, he man has thots about kanitundila. There are no monkeys here only animal lovers. He should also meet TD jakes for revival please
If he will address Zambians in the US, I willnot be there. I have no interest in him….
Hmmm the UN? Wow then Cuba? Okay maybe you can get some tips on Health Care reforrm from Obama and take the ideas to Zambia? Ok Cuba is your next stop ? Well do you smoke? They have the best cigars! I think that is all I know about Cuba. Please gather all the best of the best ideas and take them home to Zambia. Do not tell the Americans that Zambia is a one party participatory democracy….that will confuse them… Good Luck…
Realist, Glasnost, Pravda, and the whole lot of you, listen, and listen good. I knew Bwezani from his days at NAMBORD, when he built his Kabulonga Leopard’s Lane mansion in record time. I knew him when he was Foreign Minister. I can’t say much about those days. But right now, the man’s only fit for retirement in an Eastern village, near some school where teachers look cute. Whoever accompanies him don’t make no difference. He won’t liten, and neither will they talk, anyway. Otherwise, how do you explain his globe-gallivanting, the stagnation in the economy, the bad politics perpetrated by himself through Congolese Kafupi and that lost Barotselander, Mabenga? Let’s not engage in the politics of “hand-gloving”. Bwezani must retire. NOW.
Banda must be the dullest African president. The man has a very short memory span and has a very embarrassing tendency of sleeping during important meetings, I just hope he will spare us from embarrassment this time, please Kanitundila no Kayopering this time twapapata sure we muntu iwe! As for Zambians, you honestly wonder how in a nation with brains like Inonge the likes of Kanitundila can be president. Shame shame.
This MMD government is full of dying ministers, look at Misheck Bonshe, the chap has been busy dying for one month and drawing a salary for trying to die. Now I hear Vera Tembo Chiluba too is afflicted with “the same” which Chiluba and McTribouy gave her. Kunda, Shikapwasha and Mulongoti are also eternal patients. I even wonder why they talk about 2011 polls because they will all be observing them from the Tetamalilo Grand Stand Underground.
Welcome Mr Zed..President to the land of all. As Zeds in the US we salute you for all the work you are doing in Zed, but above all we want to advise you the following before you get here.
1. Leave your smile at the port of entry, people here want to hear important business, not wide smiles.
2. No funny jokes that only your entourage will laugh.
3. Na ku Zambian embassy, hope you have brought a ka small stimulus package for the people welcoming you and Thandie.
We a quack for president, I regret to have supported you in your elections. “Kamwendo munjila”, Presidency is not about just making pronouncements in the media, someone close to RB, please help him, he needs image builders now more than ever before, he is lost! And as Captain of the Ship, if he is this lost then disaster is certain! God help us.

#2 i am with you. i will be stateless as well till this guy goes back to zambia. i can risk being embarassed by him here in a foreign land.
I’v never understood the hate you guys have for Rupiah. You’ve been hurt so much by his win in the last election more than the candidates combined. I feel for you.
No matter the insults, he still reign over you, like it or not. Anyone who doesn’t fall under his reign cannot hold this much hate (or more precisely, hurt). Mwalifulwa. You lost, please deal with it.
The grudge you have will only hurt and keep hurting you more and more. Waiting for 2011 will be a more prudent decision than insulting an innocent person. In the mean time, he will be at the UN and Sata/HH won’t. And this is true.
There is nothing new these Leaders are gona discus. There is Somalia almost 20 yrs a country without cental Govenment. DR Congo instability since 1960 and up to now the world has never been told whoo killed DAG but fingers oint at the British ask Mama Kankasa she saw it with her own eyes in Twapia Ndola. Two British fighetr jets did it then based at Ndola Royal Air Force Base. There is still a pointless war in Afiganstan and that war will never be worn only a political solution will do the trick meanwhile young men due to advenurerism are being killed day in day out. Look at the parents faces after their sons get killed. It all wasted investment.
I hope he will get advice on democracy from president Obama since he will have an opportunity to meet him face to face. ViVa Dosing.
Iwe #1 RB does not doze those days are gone, observe the BIG MAN, he shakes his head very often, that is the trick. Whether you like it or not he is ZAMBIA ONE. The whole business has already been done and Heads of States and Governments will just endorse. That is how it goes.
Is he not passing through London? I really want BBC’s Hard Talk (Steven Sucker) to put RB in the hot seat. I really want him to face this Journalist, not like the ones he shuts up from ZNBC.
all i can say is that RB should represent us well.i hope he knows why he is going and that whatever he gains, zambian should benefit.i am not too sure about the cuba visit.is it neccessary?
Cant wait for 2011 to cast avote against this scum bag, bag of man.Bwezani ati bweza kumbuyo..
When he meets Obama, he will soon realise that to be a president of the world’s most powerful nation doesn’t necessarily require one to be an imposing edifice but an astute statesman conversant with democratic governance.
ALLM YOU SUCKER BLOGGERS TAKE THIS IN YOUR BIG DULL HEADS …RB IS CEO OF ZED AND NOT YOUR gods SATA AND HH…. IAM REALLY HAVING A DAMN GOOD TIME ….ALL YOU BITTER LOSERS CAN ONLY DREAM OR WISH BUT I RB KANITUNDILA IS HE OF ZAMBIA …..I DO WHAT I FEEL IS GOOD FOR YOU ****ERS AND I DONT GIV IT A DAMNNNN.YOU CAN ALL GO HANG AND AS LONG AS AM HE YOU WILL CONTINUE CRYING UNTIL SATA DIES….
He doezn’t have to take Obama’z advice on democracy, it iz there in black and white for everybody to see.
In the near future, UN should only allow states whose economies are enabling to travel to the summit. What use is RB at that August meeting? If Africa can give him second place in un-important faculty of the African union! He is merely abusing taxable monies with his diploma-holding teacher of a wife. Surely, in a country like Zambia, there’s nothing USA can teach, because Zambia’s not developing, it’s under developed. Zambian leadership should avoid summits that are detrimental to immediate internal development.
Children as young as five should be taught about explicit sex acts, according to guidelines from the United Nations.
The advice also calls for youngsters to learn about abortion, same-sex relationships and sexually transmitted diseases.
The draft report on sex education has been compiled by UNESCO, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation.
Is this what the UN is all about? God help us!!
Greetings bloggers
The sentiments over RB are always the same, so I dont even bother to read them anymore. What matters most to me, is that African leaders will be awarded an audience with their fellow African but American president. This alone is historical, although I don’t expect any miracles, but I wish Obama would finally manage to impart a whole new sense of responsibilty unto our leaders – a more genuine vision for the continent and enthusiasm for real economic development and strategies of national planning.
As the former German foreign minister Hans-Dietrich Genscher once put it: “people who burn with passion are able to ignite others.”
Why waste money attending a meeting where white leaders meet alone and the african leaders are sidelined
Well said Nine Chale.
Nine Chale you have said it all.
This president what fits him is to be the minister of external affairs he is not the president of Zambia Kunda is the president RP works for Kunda
RB go go man…..its your time to trot the world. Just imagine a chance comes for you to visit every country in the world…can you refuse?? Only people like Obama can stay in their country to serve the people that voted for them. But RB has to serve his stakes before he dies first. Heeee …go go RB…teach Zambians good lessons so they vote wisely in 2011.
RB is many times more intelligent than all the ignorant, illiterate, and self serving critics including their families, ancestors and future generations of illiterate relatives.
Systematic touring, he’s finished touring Africa now he wants to conquer the rest of the world. Just a wast of money he will contribute zero to the deliberations, he probably doesn’t even know the agenda.
take him to brooklyn and let him choose a hooker who’ll keep him awake
Hope Obama will tell him he’s a jacka$$ for ruining Zambia and urge him to retire or not stand in 2011.
Just like Manawasa, living in a plane and goes even to places he’s not invited. Typical.
RB needs to apply for frequent flyer miles. No wonder he dozes that much, it must be from the jet lag.
Cimoneni. Amatobo kwati nicichula. People doesn`t he look like a frog?
#32 Iwe ci Nine Chale (Maestro hachipuba) Do you have a job? I have never seen a person spend so miuch time talking nonsense like you. Ci SDA wamupamba iwe. So why should Obama be doing that we cipuba we.
iwe # 42 what’s wrong with what # 32 said ?
Agony is on Kanitundila, he turned himself into a bed-fella with Chiluba thinking that this will win him the Bemba vote only for FTJ to turn up at Ukusefa Pang’wena and be called a Lazo. I hope Banda will realise Zambians are not tribal bigots and he should for once stop all political machinations hinged on tribal bigotry.
Aluta continuie, will keep an eye till death do us part
U S Guys make sure you take him on the Tour; I like the idea of taking him to strip clubs, so that he can sleep in the meetings.
Mutati would do a better job. Otherwise we are in for a big embarrassment.
By the time of death in the seventh year of being in power, Mwanawasa had made 127 foreign flights and visited 83 countries. He had visited UK 41 times, China 23 time and South Africa 36 times. At UNZA we were living and graduating from looftops and that is the legacy Mpombo and Mmembe are shoving on us but in vain.
RB trying to break Levy’s record… malabishi
How come we told that the RB as gone to NEW YORK straight by his press aide Dickson Jere when infact todays post is saying RB yesterday left for Italy for undisclosed mission and would then proceed to England before flying to NY. Anyway if what has been writen is true then we are in for playing President.
Thanks #34 Jamaco, If you have noticed we have a haters here who seems to be irritated by our presence just because we speak our minds and take the time to do so despite our other obligations – yes we do have permanent jobs and families aswell.. there is one kind of psychological disorder called “ADD”. Attention Deficit Disorder or “Lacking in Appreciation.” I think it has something to do with this phenomenom. in English, no need to mention any names, they know themselves very well.
I do not know whether Banda has doctors who should tell him that at 73, he is too old for Marco-pololing like this. He is today off to Italy to visit some of Silvio’s whores, then off to England for God knows what before arriving in New York to embarrass Zambia. Then he will be off to Venezuela before going to see a dying Castro in Cuba. Even for a young soul, such a grueling trip can be taxing. This man just wants to nail another state funeral on our heads. I just wonder what his purpose of being president really is?
The Travels of Marco Polo
It is a pit to hear that our president that he will be going to New York, while I was just invited yesterday to meet him in Rome. Meaning today he will at the Zambian ambessy offices in Rome. Hearing that he is I did not even both to go there.
You guys really amaze me. How do you elect your presidents? Do you do it in the dark and so you cross on the wrong candidate, or ballot papers are printed in Chinese? Maybe next time, try casting votes soon after political rallies, maybe for once you will elect a better leader. What do you think??
Most of the submissions here are just dumb. I wonder what contributions you guys would make to the development of our country if you were to be in Govt. right now.
They are going to launch ALMA in the States. African leaders, don’t you just love em
The man has gone to Italy to play sojo. Or b he going to buy designer shoes like his new found friend FTJ.
Lelo!! ….. AM so GLAD am not in the USA! time the diaspora pipo there felt him. u also have to share in the embarrasing moments after all hes also your president …hehehe!!……. just dont forget to email us the juicy details! .. and LT, thats not my flag!
People please! RB is president of the republic of Zambian whether you like it or not. Those saying he will embarass them because they live in the USA, what makes you think that your presence in the USA is not embarassing to the nation? Do you think you represent us in a positive way yourself? And the UN general meeting is for heads of state, so RB attending it is not tantamount to “kamwendo munjila” even KK, Chiluba and Mwanawasa used to attend that.
Am not a fun of RB myself but i think there better areas to criticise him than thinking his presence is embarassing. Lets talking about issues and not thinking that because you are in the US then you are better than anyone Zambian.

am going to sleep now
Obama is just going to blast these inert, corrupt dictators who always want hand-outs there is no money in the kitty…
Kindly inform us you people who do you want to rule Zambia? We had president kaunda , condemned him and said fonkofonko. We had FTJ you condemned him you called him Kafupi Lazo .We had Levy again you were saying cabbage. Now we have RB again you are complaining so what we do?tell me
Its fun how people are portraying RB .Counting, there are about 63 comments against RB.Maybe it is true he is a bad president. What surprises me is that no one really knows what this meeting will be about.I believe Obama now is going to face a more challenging occasion than ever because the euphoria is dying for him.For your information the G20 meeting will be about , Enviroment change,Middle East Politics,The crunch and Africa situation..So you Zedians in diaspora get your act together and ponder on the reason why you are there.
New York, the best place for honey moon for some so-kod heads of state.. Oh! Thats where u also organise some chaps to award u with a fake Doctorate…I won’t b suprised if soon after that the old man is tagged with such.. U can only go 2 Cuba if u want to rule 4 life..So Zedians dont say I didn’t worn u…
ok, enough! we love our president and we support him. thats just who we are…………………….
