MMD campaign manager in the Kasama Central by-election Charles Shawa has castigated Patriotic Front officials and cadres for their unruly behaviour during today’s filing in of nominations papers by aspiring candidates at the civic centre.
Mr. Shawa said it was unfortunate that PF members attempted to hijack the work of the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) during the nomination process.
He warned that politics of violence and intimidation would not be tolerated.
Mr. Shawa made the remarks after PF leader Michael Sata, who was present at the filing in of nominations papers by aspiring candidates, asked his supporters to storm the Council Chamber and complain over the delays by the ECZ to announce the successful aspiring candidates for the vacant Kasama Central seat.
Mr. Shawa said people should allow the Electoral Body to conduct the by-election in a peaceful atmosphere.
He said it was unacceptable for the PF officials to threaten to take the law into their own hands over straight forward issues.
Mr. Shawa, who is Lusaka province minister, urged, the PF leadership not to be in the forefront of inciting violence but instead advocate for non-violent campaigns.
Earlier, Mr. Sata had asked PF aspiring candidate Geoffrey Mwamba and other party cadres to storm the council chamber and complain over the delay by the ECZ to announce the names of the successful candidates to contest the Kasama Central seat.
However, Mr. Shawa advised Mr. Sata to show political maturity and not incite his supporters to cause confusion because ECZ was screening the successful aspiring candidates before making the announcement.
Six candidates successfully filed in their nominations to contest the Kasama Central seat.
The By-election takes place on October 15, this year.

MMD caders are even worse. First start with your backyard before you jump on someone else’s.
On and after election eve GRZ should deploy not less than 3,000 Kamfisa and Lilayi recruits i mean no regular policeman in the whole of Kasaka’ wards, and polling centers.GBM like Sata is a thug who should be sized should he think the thuggery he perpetuates on his employees and wives can be condoned on citizens.
Let’s have peaceful elections please. That’s why we need change in the way of running things in our country. Let the young turks get positions.in leadership.
THIS IS A SIGN OF FEAR ON THE SIDE OF MMD.THIS TIME IT WILL BE TIT FOR TAT.NO SCREW DRIVERS THIS IS ANOTHER AREA ANY ATTEMPT TO RIG WILL RESULT IN UN MENTIONED ACTION.CAREFUL THIS TIME.NO R R R ANY MORE GO SATA GO
MMD thugs are even the worst…kubobana ku kasama nomba !
Poltics of thuggery are long gone. Those men contesting Kasama Cental Constituency seat are all Zambians. Looking at the MMD adoption style based on Chitambo I think they are ok , picking local residents is a better way of doing things rather than importing candidates from outside the constituency. Imported leadership is what compelled Chishimba to throw in the towel. My word of caution to pipo of Kasama, please vote wisely Voting for names is long gone but on merit for efficient representation and spearheading developmental projects. This will be a two man race between Burton Mugala & GBM the rest are just time wasters.
Well said bo no: 6, all the best pipo and vote wisely
#1 Moderator, if that is not an attempt at rigging by Mr Sata then I do n ot know what it is. I do not expect a whole president (I mean someone aspiring for Plot 1) to instruct his cadres to be unruly in that manner. Anyway what don’t we know about Mr Sata. Considering how desperate he is to retain Kasama Central (Lubinda called it a litmus test for the pact), we can expect another Chawama. Certainly “we aint seen nothing yet” from that man! Police please keep vigil and cage ANY criminal.
PF is strong hold in areas where people are lighten and MMD in areas peolple are something else, so we will see which direction Kasama will take
How much will be the price of fertilizer in Kasama central during the by- election?
Igwee Burton Mugala V GBM.
As noted by number 6, Kasama people have already seen what the two have done in Kasama , say in the last 5-10 years. Whereas one has taken out assets from Kasama, the other has brought investment, created employment, provision of quality education to the people. It is not an easy match for PF
GBM for Kasama Central! Many MMD MPs such as Mutati, Kunda himself, Mutale Nalumango, Namugala, Siliya etc were not living in their constituencies when they stood as MPs. They went to their tribal enclaves. WHY? WHY WOULD THE LOCALS ACCEPT THEM WHEN THEY DID NOT LIVE AMONG THEM? WHY SHOULD THE SITUATION BE DIFFERENT FOR GBM. LET’S BE REALISTIC.
