Sata has lost it in Northern Province – VEEP

Share

-Vice President George Kunda says the electorate in Kasama voted for opposition Patriotic Front (PF) leader Michael Sata because they believed his lies that he would build them houses, improve the roads, schools health centre within 90 days of being in State House.

Vice President Kunda says people have now fortunately realized that Sata was telling them lie making most of them to rejoin the ruling MMD.

He said this in Kasama today when he addressed a huge rally held at Chishimba Basic School to drum up support to MMD candidate Burton Mugala in the forth coming parliamentary by-election set for October 15, 2009.

He said MMD is delivering in terms of implementing its developmental projects not only in Northern province but the country as a whole adding that notably there is great transformation in Kasama where the people are constructing their own houses and other business structures.

The Vice President appealed to the Kasama municipal council to release the K400 million Constituency Development Fund (CDF) adding that another K600 million will be released by the central government.

Mr. Kunda said all the main roads including the feeder roads were being rehabilitated to enhance trade in the province.

He said now that the copper prices are rising and the Kwacha has stabilized, government has embarked on a number of developmental projects to further develop Kasama.

He said Zambia, with its 73 tribes lives in harmony, does not want to practice tribalism.

Mr Kunda said the ruling party MMD was developing Zambia based on its priorities reflected in its manifesto and the Fifth National Development Plan. From which the opposition PF and other political parties were copying.

And speaking at the same function, MMD aspiring candidate Burton Mugala appealed to the Kasama electorates to vote for him as their new Member of Parliament (MP) because he has lived with them for the past 22 years.

Mr. Mugala said if elected as their new MP, he would easily access resources for the people of Kasama and thereby develop the area at a faster rate.

The Kasama Central seat fell vacant following the resignation of Savior Chishimba.

The Vice President is expected back in Lusaka tomorrow soon after he completes he schedule.

  1. CDF funds become necessary during bye-elections – why not call them ‘presidential campaign slush funds’? we are sick & tired of being taken for fools, when is this nonsense of every politician thinking that all voters are a bunch of fools going to end kanshi? its so irritating!

  2. MMD can bring development all over zed if we vote and work with them.
Sata will never be president of zed becouse of his lies and lack of proper education. Every night and day he dreams about plot 1 and when he opens his red eyes only to complain like #1 that he is being treated like a fool.

  3. Lubinda is the best self de-campaigning chap for GBM in Kasama because all 2006 campaign videos in Kabwata are accessible for placement on Community media channels and paid ZANIS mobile TV shows.Let the people hear what fundamental changes have taken place in GBM from the time Lubinda and Sata faced him in kabwata. What has really changed hardly 3 years on?

  4. Why is it that the same people from the 1960 and 1970 are the same people running the county today? Don’t we have young educated people who can take over? OMG!!! This is so discouraging. This is why most of us Zambians who get educated abroad never came back, coz the same people who have ruled for the past 30 years are still in power an don’t want to leave. Zambia will not develop until we get ride of these old people. Haven’t Sata or R. Banda heard off retirement????? God I can not even stand to read Zambian news any more!!!!

  5. No way no how can one man factor party take development to the country.Ask him which constituency he has realized his 90 day economic miracle.Ask him if indeed those his sycophants have more money in their pocket if not more poverty. If not, then no way no how can he develop kasama with a his fellow Grade 7 drop out.

  6. There are fundamental reasons why our former heads of states from Dr.Kenneth D.Kaunda says Sata is not a Presidential material to risk with in Nkwazi office and FTJ Chiluba outrightly refused to give Sata the mantle of power despite having used him as a mop rag.

Its sad to worst time on Sata because the man is just a disingenuous political caricature without a fute. We know that to the ignoble he is a messianic leadership material to vest in. But to the informed houses of God fearing patriotic citizens, shakers and movers of power dynamics, Sata is just a usable but disposable scoundrel devoted to barking without a future. He is a disillusioned criminal who trapped in fantasy that the country would gamble with his insanity to spark civil war the only thing he can give a country.

  7. Sata like his foster child ichilema in the land of our birth will never rise above wishful dreams and tribalism.Truth be told that “the two who represnt tribal polarization and anarchy will never ever become Zambian heads of state to misrule our country come what may but die a life time failures with unrealized dreams.

  8. By all narratives, time is steadfastly against Sata now run out of space and rhetoric. Chiluba who transformed PF with corrupt Sata as a proxy, will leave PF a lifeless shell. The tyre that you inflate cannot be hard to deflate or blast. Sata like Privatization criminal Ichilema, is a highly vulnerable criminal without exit routes in power politics. The poor chap has indelible criminal trails in the ministry of local Government, Health through medical stores, criminal banking conduct with Standard Charted Bank, Chawama massacre he deserves an indictment and money laundering from SA where until now his cargo remains confiscated at Oliver Tambo International Airport. He has neither declared or claimed it before the SA Government.

  9. He is just a tribal bigot disillusioned that in Zambia we can reward illiteracy and tribal bigotry hence putting GBM a Grade 7 drop out who was ever in Group D.

  10. Senior Citizen, I understand freedom of expression but to tell you the truth, “You are an IMBEC1LE or as KK would put it, S.T.U.P.1.D I.D.1.O.T”

  11. Senior citizen I have smoked you from a tunnel, you are just supporting your kin and kirth!

Why are you all chaps surprised! Liars which is easy TO SUPPORT TRIBALISM OPENLY OR TO DO IT QUIETLY AS YOU DO! GBM is very correct! All the MPs in Luapula are ethnic people, Northern bembas, Eastern Easteners, Western Lozis, NW, ethics people.etc it is only Southern Province with Sikota a Lozi, CB and Lusaka should be shared by by all. Anyone with contrary data I challenge you!

  12. Lusaka Timesget this ZANIS story out of the site. ZANIS is a propaganda institution! They cant write onjectively. We have the right to be given objective and unpuppeteered news!

  13. #5 you hit the nail on the head. Unfortunately, some of these MMD zealots are either in denial or simply refuse to accept reality. Why in the 21st century, should we still have leaders from the 50s and 60s era? Are they that intimidated with the younger generation, that they refuse to step aside? When we constructively criticize them, we are accused of disrespect and anti-Zambian. Well, that tactic is tired and old, and will no longer work.

  14. Chishala, I agree with what you have said….but I still read news of my home. It is truely sad that we have not progressed one single bit and will not progress while we have sub-standard leaders running the country. Unfortunately, the majority of our people are uneducated and are easily fooled by campaign speeches and false promises so will continue to vote for people who would not even get jobs as filing clerks. These so called politicians and farthers of the nation should be honest and admit that they have failed and continue to fail and give the job to young competant men and women. Zambia…I weep for you and our people…how long must you continue to suffer!

  15. #3 what development can MMD possibly bring? We have heard these empty slogans from MMD for the past 19 years. They have brought dubious Chinese “investors”, with shady safety records. If you call that development, then God help us! Clearly, Zambia can do better than having MMD in office. Their record of failure, corruption and cluelessness speaks for itself. Once upon a time, we had a middle class in Zambia, now there is a huge gap. Yep, that’s your development.

  16. This contest is between Mugala and Mwamba. Why is Kunda bringing Sata into the picture? It is wrong for him to say that Sata told people lies when he outlined what he would do for the country. The test would have come if Sata had gone to state house and not implemented what he promised. Mwamba has a point when he says a Bemba should be MP for Kasama. If you look at Mpulungu, Isoka, Nakonde and Mbala, you will notice that their MPs are their tribesmen and PF has not won a single seat from these parts. WHY? The answer is crystal clear so stop demonising Mwamba.

  17. #19 thanks for supporting me you are on the ground, rural areas should be controlled by the natives, it is only Southern Province which has imported Sikota in Livingstone. As a progressive Zambian in 2011 let this Sikota chap with big eyes stand in Western Province or go to neutral places in Urban CB or Lusaka. Abash intimidations!!

  18. George come and take me on…how can such a shallow rally speech come from a veep? we need real time issues sir, not mumbling abt wat sata said during campaign 11months ago! c’mon little heads how many things did RB promise that has not and will never come true??? how much is fertlizer today which he promised at 50pin??. CDF management is disaster, job creation is a myth. If this is the quality of time you spend in yo offices day in and out, then u need to improve.Zambia has intellectual class dont embarass us.

  19. PF surpoters seem to be panicking ,suddenly some people are now justifyng tribalism as it might be the only way to propel Mwamba to manda hill. Unfortunately this tactic might work in kasama but it will surely cost PF a great deal in 2011. The fact that the top leadership in PF has not condemned these tribal sentiments shows that Mr sata has endorsed this nonsence. Come 2011 he will only win the Bemba vote like he did in 2008 GBM has already told the people of zambia that kasama is only for Bembas. Infact in 2008 PF won both the Bemba tribe and Bemba speaking vote, at the rate we are going come 2011 he will have lost the Bemba speaking to remain with a paultry bemba tribe vote.

  20. Don’t we have qualifications stipulated for one to qualify to stand as MP in Zambia. I thought there was but it seems this has been done away with. There must be a minimum of qualifications one has to hold in order to stand as MP. It seems anyone can stand as MP in Zambia and this is a problem becuase how can a person without the minimum qualifications take part and understand the delibarations in Parliament? I am not suggesting that all should have a degree but surely we need people who at least read and understand what is going on, otherwise we are lost. A Zambian is free to stand for elections anywhere in the country regardless of his/her tribe. This tribe thing is nonsense and does not fit in modern society like Zambia. We are not in the early stone age. Talking about tribes Jesus

  21. I am really neutral here, while I agree with 11 and 12 that SC is a one person MMD sycophant, I also agree with SC and 17 that both candidates quals and not the sort that will take Zambia forward. Although I am still strongly of the opinion that MMD has lost the plot in general, PF have really disappointed me with their choice of candidate here – GBM is dullard why should we put him in parliament – just for numbers?

  22. It is a pity that even after we clearly see that things are wrong, some people will always cling to a rotten wood(MMD).What will MMD bring to Zambia?.Let us change Government, let us shake these Guys who are making us poorer.Open your eyes Zambians, stop supporting blindly.Whether you hate Sata or HH,or Tilyenji or Gen Miyanda, let us have unity of purpose,to take Zambia forward.Im from Eastern but surely,i can see no future in our president RB,he is too childish to be President. He likes ‘High Life’,travelling,Parties, meetings…Oohhh shame!.look at Zuma, does he travel like Banda?.Think…Think..Think,Zambians,Think!,Stop the rot now!

  23. Tribalism is a reality but but we shold always strive to stamp it out of our veryday lives, especially politics. beisdes most of us that grew up in the cosmopolitan urban towns and cities in Zambia are a mix of sevral tribes. I mean Ive got Bemba, Luvale, Lunda Kazembe and God knows what else in me. One thing KK did right. Neway I’ll spare GBM for know and consider it a misspeak. Maybe he’s desperate to start his political career..

  24. Like #19, Jasmine said this contest is about Mugala v Mwamba. So I’ll ignore both Kunda and Sata’s utterances. Now GBM vs Mugala.. Who would I my preference be ?? Godfrey Mwamba. This man is an achiever and appears to genuinely want to shift his career and life to public service at any level. he’s certainly not in for tghe money but the passion and thats key. he has demonstrated his business savvy. received an endorsement from Sir Richard Branson in Maureen Makuya’s book where she profieled Africa’s 20 successful entrepreneurs. he was profiled the the ranks of Mo Ibrahim (Celtel founder) etc. he’s earfns millions and worth millions in both GBPounds & USD. This is key. We need to move away from jobseekers to actualisers. This is how we’ve ended up with the current MMD di$kheads!.

  25. it is not mis-speak. this statement by GBM will bring down the pact. how will GBM face the other tribes in his party. Does it mean Wilbur Simuusa should not have stood in Chingola?? I cannot understand how people can justify tribal sentiment on the basis it is against MMD. Mr. Mugala has helped kasama as a business man. He owns the only other private school in Kasama which attracts pupils from tanzania and all over northern province. he also owns a very good guest house and lodge and also supports football development in kasama. How can you allow a kaponya like GBM to go into Parliament? just because he has money? come on people

  26. GBP despite his massive wealth and achievement has been pushing for service even at MP level!. He has personal infrastructure around the country and has actually comitted to putting in his personal money into projects in his target constituencies. He actally started in Kabwata during his much publicised and financially draining push under the MMD ticket. though lost to Given Lubinda. He is on record as having pumped $150,000 (K600m) of his personal money into his campaign. For me he’s shown the ambition to make a difference, he’s got his resume to support him and the passion to seriously develop Kasama, thorugh private sector capital projects. its not a question of whether you luives in a freaking town for 20 years!!. What Capital private investors can Mugala bring ?. His CV doesnt say

  27. GMB and SATA have scored twice in there own goal. GMB is not fit to be MP. What was Sata thinking of by picking GMB. This is clear testmony of corruption. GMB ,must have funded Sata. Please whatver happens dont allow Sata to be president. PF is as corrupt as MMD

  28. #31 King Solomon. I hear you and agree that tribal bigotry is indefensible should be thrown out. Howver, Mugala’s resume is DEFINTELY not the kind of person we should be looking for. It’s exactly this type of incomplete not so visionary businessmen that are in the current MMD. a lot of them similar businesses. Ill tell you why. Lodge/Guesthouse come on . even I have one. Should I be MP now? its exactly these kind of people that annoy me. they are NOT actualisers (drawing from Maslows hierarchy of needs) in any one form. He’s just looking to guaranteeing govt business thorugh his lodge and ensure 100% occupancy. All these lodges in these town all thrive of MoH, Auditor gen office workshops etc. You let this in we are done. afterall he’s in bed with top leadership.

  29. There are probably better choices out there but we have to chose between these two and Mugala IS definately NOT what I wud be looking at! For me its about drawing serious Private Sector busenesses to set up agribusiness commercial projects. Ther’s a lot of opportunity in Kasama. Coffee, Sugar, Gournuts, Tobacco Soya’s Maize, minerals. Who has the acumen to doing it. certainly not a guy who thinks interm of guesthouses and lodges. There are serous guys in Kasam running serious game. I dont knw how many of you have heard of KASAMA sugar . Some platation and sugar factory run by guy of indian origin. They have serious hectres under cultivation and are currently workg on expansion. We some who can discuss, coordinate and facilitate such proj. someone can thnk at their lvel& scale. GBM is…

  30. If I were a registered voter for Kasama Central Constituency Parliamentery By elections set for 15th October 2009, I would cast mine in favour of Burton Mugala. Some quarters are saying Burton to be a namwanga and not being true son of Kasama. That thinking is long gone. The man has lived for 22 solid years in Kasama and has imersely contributed to the development of Kasama. Some may dismiss him as a mere former footballer. But the man has proved that he can deliver. I dont know what other candidates will contribute in parliament coz these men are of bad character. They fight and insult any how and what will make some of them change. Mind you a snake will always be a snake egardsless of uts age and size. Voting for names is long overgone.

  31. Its a case of the lesser of two evils. GBM is not parliamentary material and its desired that this MMD evil is booted out of power. Whoever wins Kasama, no problem is solved.

  32. MMD has failed us. Even Ka Chiluba has come back to support MMD.. I feel sorry for Burton Mugala. He used to be a very good footballer and a winner. Standing on an MMD ticket is the first mistake he is making. MMD stinks with corruption. Mention them Dora Zamtel Saga, Dora borehole Petauke saga, Chiluba saga. Even Impombo realised that there is nothing with MMD. Only “Big Nose” Ronnie, Mutolilo (Mulongoti) we are tied of these chaps.

  33. The war is not between GBM and B Mugala it is between Sata and RB, Chiluba, Kunda. But i think the MMD may take the day looking at how they’ve done the groundwork in bribing the voters and more so they do the rigging they have the power. Let us wait and see.

  34. ba livingstone(# 46) leave God out of the kasama by elections. God is not interested in these corrupt elections we hold pa Z. let them cheat, rig, fight – we re used that is how it goes.

  35. May you know this now and always that Bo Sikota is as much at home mwa Libingi(Livingstone)as he is in Mungu,Lealui,Limulunga. “That is the beauty about History,No matter how hard you try to ,you can NEVER ever change it.” Unless of course you invented a Time machine!

  36. Well Chisala #5 if those of you who leave Zambia to study don’t come back then where will the young peolpe come from? I know they are still many young people back home but change is about me I can’t wait for the next person to act when I have seen a need. Change requires one person to take a step forward. I’m sure where you are you have learnt a few things that could be beneficial to our nation. We all need to sow into our country if we want to go forward. Another thing just like #47 says we are used to corrupt elections… don’t you think the very young people you talk about are used to things the way they are such that even if they see that something is wrong they do not speak up because that is how things are or have been done for centuries and they now see it as “normal”

  37. SENIOR CITIZEN i like the way you write keep ’em coming, you are sharp shooting indeed,go for the jagular! In life time quickly comes, when one realises there are things that can only be kept inside ones mind for so long. It’s just my head imploding with thoughts that are energetically jostling for release. Truth does have a piercing sensation to the ear.Kozo Sha mi muyoyange!!

  38. Z’ds, is tribalism really an issue amoung the educated? I dont think so…it is only an issue amoung the lowly and uneducated. It does not matter to me who holds office provided they are accountable, capable of doing the job and have the interest of THE PEOPLE OF ZAMBIA at heart. If not then they must take a hike! GRZ and the elected officials are there to serve the people. It is not a matter of disrespect for our leaders….we are tired of all this underacheivement! 43 years of independence and what have we got to show?????? A globetrotting celebrity Pres! C’MON Z’ds WE NEED THE WINDS OF CHANGE TO BLOW THROUGH OUR COUNTRY!!!

  39. Musenge #49. Don’t get me wrong. I love Zambia and I am doing my part in developing it. It’s just that it’s so discouraging to see Zambia worsening each year and the same people who have ruled for the last 30 years are the same one ones running the country now, They just keep on rotating. Look at India now, their economy is doing so well from nowhere that they are even able to join the G8. Where is Zambia going as a nation? We have a leader that is not even qualified and Instead of helping build the infrastructure and help in bringing up change and new ideas to help Zambia develop, he thinks by taking foreign trips every week will help improve the economy. How long is Sata going to be running for President? Don’t they have young fresh minds in his party that can also run?
