Renard Calls-up Under-17 Starlet for Cosafa Cup

Share

Herve Renard has drafted former Zambia Under-17 midfielder and captain Jimmy Njovu into his Cosafa Cup squad.

The talented Njovu joined the team on Monday and was part of training at Independence Stadium in Lusaka where Zambia are camped and training from.

Renard said he had been tracking Njovu since he helped Arrows technical bench in April during their Caf Confederations Cup campaign.

Even though he doesn’t play very much for his club my target is to have young players for the Cosafa,” Renard said.

“My target is to use players like Jimmy for the future of Chipolopolo.”

Njovu was part of Aggrey Chiyangi’s Under-17 team during the 2009 Africa Under-17 Championship qualifiers.

Meanwhile, Danny Hangunyu has not yet arrived in camp as expected from his Angolan club Premiero Agosto.

Renard said he had no news as to why the winger had failed to arrive but that the bench was optimistic Hangunyu will be available for training camp.

  1. I like Renard’s strategy. It sounds/looks more forward looking and archetectural in nature. Which is probably what Zambia needs to concentrate on right now—-BUILDING FOR THE FUTURE!!

Expose more young talent now so that soon they can start giving these tired legs in National team some real competition for their positions. Who knows, one of these young chaps might turn out to be a Kalusha Bwalya in the rough. A kid who can help revive our long and distinguished tradition of competing and winning at a higher level in football—-a tradition Zambia is well know for in Africa and beyond.

CAST YOUR NET AS WIDE AS YOU CAN, COAUCH—-find us a young lad you can groom into our new “MASTER DRIBLER,” Alex Chola!!

  2. can someone tell this young chap not to get to excited when he gets a bit famous coz that’s what happens to zambian players:they get a little famous, the women and beer are all over and next thing a palyer is washed oout-finito!

  3. At the risk of being pedantic, what’s up with the headline? A starlet is a female actress or singer being called for a starring role… Hmm. Good luck to the young soccer star.
