Politically inclined radio board members told to resign

Share

The Information and Broadcasting services ministry has directed Mwinilunga Radio Community board members who are politically affiliated to resign with immediate effect.

Speaking to Zambia News and Information Services (ZANIS), shortly after addressing Mwinilunga radio community board members, Director for Press and Public Relations Morden Mayembe said all politically affiliated members serving on the board should resign.

He explained that according to the community radio’s constitution, no politically affiliated person is allowed to sit on the board.

Mr Mayembe stressed that it was against the regulations for any political cadre to serve on any community radio board.
He further explained that should the politicians serving on the board decline to step down then the radio community risks losing its broadcasting license.

“If the politicians continue on the board then it will lead the ministry of information to withdrawing the license” he said.

Mwinilunga radio community board consists mainly of politicians from both the ruling MMD and opposition UPND.

  1. “Mwinilunga radio community board consists mainly of politicians from both the ruling MMD and opposition UPND” if that is the situation then you should not complain coz that is what you should expect from them just like you cant expect a cock to bark or a cow to roar so they are just trying to be themselves

  2. The mini-stery is not serious. If thats the case why not start with ZNBC, Times of Zambia, and Zambia Daily Mail? And why bother about the equation which has balanced/cancelled itself. If the broadcasters are both from ruling and opposition oriented to me that creats a very healthy and balanced situation which in itself defuses tention between mmd and the opposition. But, the fact is, I am pretty sure the majority of the broadcasters are from the opposition thats why the ministry is so much bothered.

  3. This is a non-starter this Mayembe sounds like Shikapasha’s agent who are MMD cadre. First I challenge Mayembe to show an example by resigning. Second, all MMD cadres should follow suit. Third, UPND cadres should not resign unless ZNBC. Times of Zambia, Daily Mail, and ZANIS become public media not MMD campaign media. Why the worry after our sweet victory in Solwezi?

  4. Does not make sense. Every Zambian is free to associate or affiliate with any organization. This is a right under our constitution. This nation is full of ill informed leaders.

  5. As far as am concerned, we are all politicians and have a choice of which party to belong to. If permanent secretaries are MMD cadres what more of simple rural radio station members?

  6. Now they are feeling the heat. In any case evry person has got a right to belong to any political party. So we will wait and see other wise the MMD has started fairing badly in some parts of N/Western Province.

  7. MMD govt should lead by example. Permanent Secretary Teddy Kasonso must resign first. This is the problem pa Zed, double standards. Chiluba is allowed to steal and others cant. Teddy is able to willing disclose that he he is MMD but others are not allowed.

  8. Zambia is a very backward country. You can tell by the weird and outrageous statements that are issued right up from Rupiah Banda down to a party militant. Honestly when did affliation to a political party become a crime and reason for exclusion from participation in community or business organisations? What a disgusting and backward country!

  9. Iwe, Mayembe, just because they don’t support MMD, does not mean they are politically inclined. They are first and foremost individuals and if they so wish can support a political of their choice! And what matters is they able serve their board functions effectively!, without political biasness!
