Swine flu breaksout at Chipembi Girls

Share

Swine flu has broken out at Chipembi Girls’ High School in Chibombo district.

Chibombo district Commissioner (DC) Colonel Philip Chabakale and the Provincial Education Officer Paul Ngoma confirmed the outbreak in separate interviews today.

Mr. Ngoma could however, not confirm the number of reported cases and give further details as he had not yet received the report from Chipembi Girls High School administration.

But Col. Chabakale revealed that 66 cases involving pupils were reported following complaints by a cross section of pupils at the institution of similar nature that included headache, flu, and sore throats among others.

Col. Chabakale said that the 66 pupils were screened at Chipembi Health Center and all of them had signs and symptoms of swine flu.

He further confirmed that the 21 samples that were taken for examination at the university Teaching Hospital (UTH) came out positive.

Col. Chabakale noted that according to a District Health Office Report that was submitted to his office Monday this week, over 24 pupils were isolated from the rest of the other pupils to ensure that the swine flu did not spread to other pupils at the institution.

He, however, expressed hope that the medical staff on the ground will be able to contain the swine flu outbreak at the institution.

  1. I would suggest all the students be confined within school premises. They should not be allowed to leave until they are fully treated.

  2. A very sad development hope the ministry of health has put in a lot of preparation in an outbreak of this nature. My wish and prayer is for the quick recovery of the girls

  3. I hope the DC realises that its not just a matter of confinement. These kids need to be provided with masks, hand and body disinfectants and disinfecting sprays as well to curb the spread. Hope the govet does something!!!

  4. Chabipa mwe. I was at Chipembi Girls myself. Governmenr should deal with these issues not dealing with the Post, Mmembe and others

  5. If you want do one thing to protect yourself and your family – do this – don’t take the swine flu vaccine. There is a war on the human immune system and it is being waged by eugenicists.

  6. # 4 I was at chipembi and still have two nieces there. Too bad for the girls. The clinic it too small to accomodate 10 pupils. maiwe….

  7. I wonder why people are very worried about this disease. Who is exaggerating the facts about this disease? How many people have so far died from the same disease? Three of my friends from my block had it some few weeks ago and are now in good health. There are cases where people get healed from the same illness without medication. Many of my fellow students in the univer, have had it and are okey. DON’T SCARE THE COMMON PEOPLE.
