Cheating Grade 9 pupils plead guilty

Nine grade nine pupils have appeared in Katete Magistrate court for being in possession of examination information without authority contrary to the laws of Zambia.

The nine aged between 16 and 22 of Chikuyu Basic School appeared before Magistrate Milton Nyirenda yesterday.
The facts before the court are that the pupils jointly and whilst acting together obtained information relating to the context of 2009 paper two of mathematics and geography contrary to section 19 subsection one, chapter 137 of the laws of Zambia.

The nine, Sylvester Zulu, Robert Mwenda, Kwezekani Phiri and Gofat Phiri, Fred Phiri, Ignitius Phiri, Oscar Phiri, Nelson Phiri and Stan Banda, who are remanded in custody at Katete prison, pleaded guilty to the charge.

Magistrate Nyirenda slapped the nine with a fine of K200, 000 each or four months simple imprisonment in default.

Meanwhile, Chikuyu Basic School Head Teacher Frank Soko on Thursday appeared before Magistrate Milton Nyirenda for disclosure of examination questions to pupils contrary to section 18 of the Examinations Council of Zambia Act.

Mr. Soko 47 of Njombwa village in Chief Nzamane area in Chipata is accused of having disclosed examination questions contrary to the ECZ Act.

The court heard that on unknown dates but between 16 and 20 November this year, the accused disclosed the examination questions for mathematics paper two and geography.

Mr. Soko pleaded not guilty and Magistrate Zulu has set December 23 as the date for trial.

  1. i would understand if this came from northern or luapula. i expect “chewing” issues to be coming from eastern power.
