Esther Phiri’s 100 percent record came to an end today after drawing with American fighter Terri Blair in a Women’s International Boxing Association (WIBA) light welterweight title fight at Mulungushi International Conference Centre in Lusaka.
It was Esther’s first draw since July 23, 2005 that she recorded in her first professional fight against Jota Sumali in Kitwe.
Furthermore, the draw also ends her 10-fight winning streak that stretches back to May 2006.
In tonights fight, Judge Alfred Buqwana scored the fight 96-94, Stephen Okumu 96-98 while Lilian Olero scored her cards 96-96.
Esther this evening dominated the first four rounds with some easy pounding the resolute American who took the fight to her local opponent despite trailing.
Blair took the subsequent two rounds opening Esther’s right eye with her left in the 5th.
However, the toll from the long haul travel less than 72 hours before was evident with her lethargic punching with a barrage of body shot combinations throughout.
Esther landed a couple of telling hooks in the 7th but Blair stood firm.
The pressure grew as the last round neared when the two boxers lost points in the 8th for a bizarre incident after the bell when Blair landed a left shot that saw Esther lose her cool to crash a right hook on the side of the American head.
Esther attempted a late rally in the 10th but Blair ducked her brawling opponent while maintaining the momentum to a draw.
S o what percentage is she then if her 100% record has come to an end?
the caucasian won dat fight,it was clear in black and white!!!!!circumstances!!!!!
Ester ‘s record is won 10 (KO 4) + lost 2 (KO 1) + drawn 2 = 14
Where is the 100% ‘record gone from’ Scandalous reporting by the author.
i hear mama Easter was clobered in this fight. Isn’t this the second time the have ruled a fight in her fight when she has clearly lost?
you can draw in boxing? was this not a title fight? so who gets the belt?
during the interviews on ZNBC, esther was happy with the results while the opponent was not, this clear shows that she didnt expect such result because she knew that she was wired. its corruption every were u go.
This result sounds political. I dont know …. are there draws in boxing?
It doesn’t seem to have been a title fight. In the event of a title fight resulting in a draw, the champion retains the belt.
Esther finally fought someone who is highly ranked (number 3 in their division). What I find disturbing is that Esther Phiri does not appear on the list of ranked boxers.
what would have been the result if this fight was in the US? Esther would have lost, because the whiteys would have favoured thier own .let us be happy for once we have cheated the whites. life is not fair so i dont see why all you Zambians want Esther to lose. Support our own. if Thierry Henry can cheat and get away with it why cant the judges favour our sister and get away with it.
Apologies for my earlier post. Esther is actually ranked number 5 in the lightweight division (though this fight was at light-welterweight).
#7. I think Esther Phiri has had some dodgy fights but this was not one of them as the boxer she faced is highly ranked. The president of WIBA insisted on attending the fight and bringing his own judges. These judges scored a draw but they actually have some credibility. I wish I had the chance to watch the fight and make my own mind up though.
Shouldnt we be applauding Esther for fighting to a draw with someone outside her category? This Blair Chick is in the Light welter weight division 63.5 Kg and our Esther is in the light weight 61.2 Kg. I think she did good i dont know why our peeps are not happy. well done girl, you had reputable judges, WIBA officials were there and you came out a draw out of a divison higher than yours.
No# 7 in south Africa well said. Some Zambians do not want their compatriots to have goodness or nice things. I for one love it when a sister achieves greatness. Plus black women donot get the credit they deserve. It’s like watching college basketball over here stupid commentators will be praising a white girl with a quarter of the skills a sister has like we all can’t see that she is only mediocre. Thus I congratulate my sister Esther because a draw is a win, ni makofi ticambapo aya. Plus I hope she only fights in Africa until she retires; got a problem with my sentiments? How long did it take for and African country to host the world cup, 2006 was to be here but we were dupped by the Australian clown that sold his vote, former head of AFA. May God bless Esther even more.
No# 10 Isi Miyaki thankyou for the educated feedback. I have a problem with Zambians that have an inferiority complex, know our heritage and history, we gavethis world King Solomon and Zipporah. Thank God Esther represented, she is a real flag bearer, ubu..l.oshi ti leke, let us be happy for our country lady. She is shinning and flying our flag high, rich Zambia with an attitude of not wanting others to have grow up, Africa needs to rise again hahahahaha like ants or locusts that have no leader but move in Rank, that wisdom is from the Bible. Pray for Esther and all of us so as we repent and follow God always. Work hard my family in gbe diapora aswell.
A man is driving up a steep, narrow mountain road. A woman is driving down the same road. As they pass each other, the woman leans out of the window and yells “P.IG!”.The man immediately leans out of his window and replies, “B.ITCH!”.They each continue on their way, and as the man rounds the next corner, he crashes into a pig in the middle of the road and dies.If only men would listen.
He crashed into a p.ig
Though we naturally expected nothing less than a win for our esther her performance was splendid expecially looking at the fact that she was fighting a more experienced boxer.Aloha bloggers, happy sunday sambeni muleya ku church.Amen

good she managed to get a draw, i guess she triumphantly got want she desired! this was a loss beyond reasonable doubt. urge to Easter is: DO NOT EAT too much of what you missed n infancy! However, the sky is a limit! We ve seen our sports going to the dogs. Let us all uphold and applaud and cheer our loser, our own and home bleed Easter. Cheers guys haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa….
Keep it up Easter though we saw your weaknesses here and there and there. You are our inspiration as lady.Keep the flame burning BUT you will be first KNOCK OUT. iM NOT THREATENING YOU but i can guarantee you a win with a sledge hummer punch! Cheers Easter i will meet you in the ring.
some zambians ae very stupid, maybe you didn’t know that the girl esther fougt against was american. the girl is highly trained and get a draw with such a person would bring glory to zambia by the world. if zambia national soccer team was to draw with brazil or france or germany what do you think the world would say? they would zambia is a great team same applies to esther she drew with an american which make her great. it doesn’t matter whether the judges cheated or not. she didn’t ask them if they did. but we could proud of what we have gained so far. esther has brought glory to zambia.
esther has brought glory to zambia. which zambian boxer has ever fought with an american none. zambia was not recognized as a country not until esther won and won championships. no american would come to zambia for boxing if esther had not put her effort to lift the country. so be proud of what you have gained whether the judges cheated or not, you have no proof to say they cheated, those guys have done that for their lives, they can’t favour esther just bcoz she black and zambian. their job has nothing to do with esther. fools.
Esther was beaten clean! Draw mu boxing naimwe. kwisa?
Ala Esther balimukapa, finish ,not nefyama draw.Bufi
You can only defeat a champion at their home by a convincing knock-out. How many timez waz Muhammad Ali “beaten” but came out victorious? The best to do iz encourage Esther to work hard while giving her thumbz-up.
Esther balitutula. And this is the closest she will ever get to a win.
Koma banalapula Ester, clearly. They shouldnt favour her but encourage her to do better by judging fairly.
Mooba ukola,,,njala ipaya and 4 sure MUZUNGU AMENYA
Esther do not wear underwear on public .nowonder it is called underwear meaning it has to be wore under something.show that to your hubby not to public.
to you haters, phds, your comments wont change the fact that Esther drew with your darling muzungu, the judges were all foreigners and on top of that qualified, who do u think are you to dispute their judgement,Esther keep on baby God is on your side.
Congratulations Esther!!!
You are a very strong girl. Judges are right. Ali vs Frazier and others it was never smooth selling wins, that is boxing. Go girl you are great!!!
