CB chiefs condemn use of condoms

Share

CHIEFS on the Copperbelt have come out strongly against the provision of condoms to guests at lodges and hotels because it is promoting promiscuity.

Speaking on behalf of the other chiefs during a two-day Copperbelt HIV Provincial Prevention Convention held at Hotel Edinburgh in Kitwe at the weekend, Chieftainess Malembeka said putting condoms in rooms of lodges, guesthouses and hotels should be discouraged.

The chieftainess said the practise was encouraging promiscuity because it reminded guests of sex and that they would seek partners for sex.

Chieftainess Malembeka said traditional leaders would not like to promote promiscuity among Zambians by encouraging them to use condoms, but would like them to abstain and be faithful to their wives and husbands.

She, however, told other participants to the convention who were advocating for the usage of condoms to feel free to use the condoms, but that chiefs in the area would not encourage the use of condoms.

  1. Ba Malembeka, condoms in rooms or no condoms if guests really want to do it they can do it even live. I am suprised that chief went to the hotel to discuss condoms in lodges and were even given pediems.

  2. These are a bunch backward b.A.shurds. People its the 2009, save lives and not images. Dull cheaps, its a good thing nobody listens to them anymore.

  3. I support the Chiefs. The only way to avoid aids is not to engage i wholesome sex. The only problem is umuntu tomfwa. God advised Adam and Eve on the dos and donts, but they still went a head to taste the donts. But other wise the use of conoms just demeans our status as human beings.

  4. Do they know the saying “Prevention is better than cure”. There is no cure for AIDS and so condoms are welcome just in case. If two have feelings for each other, nothing can stop them even going live. Otherwise discourage “better TV” women. Those whom once you pay then it will show!

  5. I promote condom usage, its true prevention is better than cure, but we must be relistic, you are not going to tell your son, after he has had sex and his dying that you should of not had sex, thats to late, that condom could have saved his life during that one wrong turn he made in his life. Young people make bad decisions and as we get older we learn. The talk of absents is 18th century logic. how does a chief that has more then one wife speak. Surely must act first. Did you know people in western countries are more sexually active than southern Africa, but AIDS is only 0.2% of there population. Ask Why?

  6. I share the concerns raised by Chieftainess Malembeka of Mpongwe on the issue of condoms at lodges etc. Its unfortunate that our cultural values has been eroded. Given the rate of Aids/HIV and STDs. Use of a condom has become a necessary devil. Yes can abtain but in most cases pipo are always on the move for business and other activities. We are a Christian nation such that there is too much freedom among our pipo unlike in the muslim world where there are restirctions on certain activities. A simple check on most lodges say along Lumumba Road opposite Matero. There are many lodges and most them are fully booked by Zimbabweans women and coz of their 4 X 4 structures and complexion man guys get hooked at fee. I dont how many guys pass throu in a day and imagine shoting live ammo. Its tricky

  7. Ba Malembeka, why not shut up, wanting sex is an individual’s choice, putting condoms can never encourage one to have it, I have gone to so many hotel pa ZED and in each one of them you would find a BIBLE, do anyone who rents those room read them? NO NO, say all you want but dont blame sex on condoms

  8. Better for people to have the choice. If you want to abstain, then do so. If two consenting adults wish to enjoy themselves then they can use the condoms provided. This measure actually helps those in marriages. Many people have been infected by their errant wives or husbands which would not have happened if condoms had been used.

  9. The choice here is simple, either encourage the use of condoms or encourage the spread of HIV/AIDS…. someone please tell these Chiefs to WAKE-UP!!!! The youth of today will be having sex whenever they can, so lets all work together to beat this disease!

  10. Is this chief a spokesman for the Vatican. CDs are a simple and effective way of avoiding sexually transmitted diseases. Young people need to be informed about HIV and AIDS. Forget these good for nothing people that are not ready to fight HIV. shouldn’t this chief be looking for fertilizer for his/her subjects? Offside!!.
