ARCHBISHOP Emmanuel Milingo says political leaders should desist from engaging in tribal politics because they have a potential of breeding anarchy.
And Bishop Milingo has said all those who have ganged up to insult President Banda should not be respected in society.
He said in an interview in Lusaka yesterday after conducting a church service at Matero Basic School that Zambia cannot afford to lose its peace at the stage it has reached.
Bishop Milingo said promoting tribalism is the same as taking the country backwards.
He said Zambia managed to get its independence because of the slogan of unity, regardless of tribe.
Bishop Milingo said tribalism promotes disunity among citizens.
He said leaders who side with their tribes will not help the nation in any way.
“It is unacceptable for leaders to base their campaigns on tribalism. Society should not condone such leaders,” Bishop Milingo said.
He said Zambia is still wallowing in poverty and this is not the right time to side with tribes.
Bishop Milingo said he was saddened that members of Parliament have developed a tendency of representing themselves and not the people who voted for them.
And Bishop Milingo said all those who have ganged up to insult President Banda should also not be respected.
He said President Banda deserves to be respected because he is the leader of the nation.
“The President is like a mother of a house. Despite his setbacks, children should have respect for their parents. I know most of our parents are not perfect, but they still deserve respect from us children,” Bishop Milingo said.
He said it is unreasonable for people to grade President Banda in the 12 months that he has served Zambians.
“I believe the President has so much on his mind because it is not easy for one to manage the country. What he needs is support and respect,” Bishop Milingo said.

True true… tribal politics has no place in Zambia.
Why lose the gains we have made in the 45 years of independence
I agree with the Bishop’s comment. If not handled carefully tribalism is fast ermging its augly head in Zambia. The MPs and other leaders are promoting it like nobody’s business. There is danger of dividing the country on tribal lines. There is no need to mention names but pipo are same coz they are made in Gods’ image. No tribe or group of pipo are superior but pipo must be judged according to their contribution to society.
” don’t vote for people who are not from here” who said these words in Katete when distributing sugar, soap etc when the bye elections where about to held last year? did you ever hear LPM utter such words in his 7 years in office?
Nice to hear from the bishop afer a long time.Is he still seeing maria sung or what ?
The problem is the Media, they have turned themselves into news makers instead of news reporters. The post is no longer reporting news anymore. its creating news by distorting the country thereby creating tribal divisions. If one minister feels the heat from his constituency and decide to go tribal as an election strategy why potray it as if its comming from an entire tribe when its just one person. gabriel namulambe is an individual entitled to his opinion the media should therefore not potray him as a spkesperson for the lamba people. It is gabriel as an individual who feels lambas are not being respected after levy’s death and that shoulod not be deliberately be misconstrued as the official position of the lamba people. And gebriel should not use blpms name to suport his own tribal…
Ba Milingo balileka bulya ubu shilu
#1 Zedman – Milingo is not the right man to talk against tribalism. Just ask former Mpima Major Seminary Students of late 60s and early 70s. He is talking like this because Rupiah Banda is his tribesman. Iam Catholic, but I cannot trust this fallen Archbishop. His a tribalist through and through.
So its true Milingo is demon possessed! Look at Banda’s recent appointments and reshuffles, it was all bakumawa. Is he also not the one who told electorates in Eastern that they should not entertain candidates who do not hail from there? And talking about not insulting leaders, Milingo should be the last because when the late Pope John Paul asked him to abide by the catholic holy doctrine of celibacy (s.e.x.u.a.l. anstinence), Milingo insulted the Pope by agreeing and then eloping with a Korean girl half his age and denounced the Pope at a Moon sect rally in Washington. He should just take his tribal bigotry to KOREA! If adults like Banda are fools, they are fools and will be called as such.
When the supporters are overwhelmly from the same tribe as the boss being supported & such supporters believe the opposite of the general public sentiments & they seem to see what others don’t see without providing any tangible evidence & then you count the people appointed by the boss and work out the regional representation factor and then you still don’t see the source of the problem, then it means we have agreed to disagree.
Nobody is insulting akulu mphuno. If an old man undresses himself leaving all the loose skin and grey hairs all over right before children in Swaziland, who does he then expect to respect him? Ngoni’s left South Africa more than a century ago and have since discarded this habit of undressing in public before a chief sure monga Zangalewa at ni vule awe pali bana. So if Banda and Milingo want to bring this kaca here of nudity and marrying children half their age, we shall deport them to Korea and Kwazulu. Sad for Kanitundila because the day he arrives in Kwazulu, xenophobic Zulu warriors will be waiting to assegai that big stomach of his full of akabwali and hopani from Kalabo.
Tribalism’s ugly head is becoming settled in this country. Just carry out a simple survey at our two highest institutions of leaning. Stinky features of tribalism will be smelt from all over, bieng promoted from unbelievable sources………..the so called educated. it is a shame.
Mr. Bishop why did you look elsewhere when your relative campaigned on those lines, but rush to condemn Namulabe? Double standards.. No ways FTJ started tribalism against the UPND and now MMD is concentrating appointments from the EAST. Should people close their eyes? Solution TRIBALISM should not only be condemned if it comes from other tribes.
NAMBA 10, walasa mune, that is a good analysis, i have hired you to analyze stuff for me. Am a catholic myself let down by people like Milingo who preach but dont do what they say, for him to lecture the nation on RESPECT, when himself could not respect the POPE, who dares not respect his holiness, he should just shut up and go to Korea and enjoy his sinful life
Yes Ba Bishop, we agree that tribe politics are bad for our country. Please be direct by telling Tourist RB stop appointing his tribalmate. Zambia is not only for easterners
milingo leave politics to politicians
