The National AIDS Council (NAC) has bemoaned the low rate of male circumcision and condom use in the country.
NAC Spokesperson Justine Mwiinga says it is sad that despite the numerous campaigns on the importance of male circumcision and condom use, very few people are responding.
He said male circumcision offers about 60 percent of protection against HIV/AIDS hence the need for male Zambians to take up the challenge and undergo circumcision.
Mr. Mwiinga said this in Lusaka today during the Hearts and Minds media sensitization campaign on HIV/AIDS.
He observed that HIV/AIDS cases have continued to rise in the country due to attitudes by some members of the public who do not want to adhere to the campaigns on the importance of male circumcision and condom use.
Meanwhile Mr. Mwinga has disclosed that about 258,000 people are on the Anti-Retrial Treatment (ART) program in the country while 3 million people are living positively, the world over.
And speaking at the same occasion ZAMCOM Director Daniel Nkalamo said there was need for concerted efforts in the fight against HIV/AIDS.
Mr. Nkalamo called on journalist in the country to exercise accuracy in HIV/AIDS reporting.
ZANIS
If anybody doesn’t want to contract HIV, they should abstain. This offers 100% protection.
Circumcision at 60% still has 40% chance that a man can get HIV. That’s a huge chance. But those who want to die from AIDS can go ahead with whatever excuse they have against abstenance. We’ll remain enjoying life on earth. Life is good. Choose life.
Condoms are just about business. The manufacturers dont care about your life. It’s your life, dont leave it in the hands of manufacturers, plus your money. Think about your family, before you unzip.
Stop with the genital mutilation obsession.
The foreskin is not just skin and does not just protect the glans(head). Circumcision is now known to ablate the most sensitive parts of the male genitals. This surgery takes away the main male pleasure zones with about 20000 fine touch and stretch nerve endings amputated. The foreskin has several parts including the ridged band that is great for ones pleasure (that is why nutters like Kellogg wanted to chop em off, to curtail masturbation), Masturbation is important for a mans physical and mental health. The only touch organ possessing as rich erogenous innervation as the foreskin is the clitoris. Circumcision deprives man of 2/3ds of the main erogenous zone constituted of the foreskin and the glans.
this circumsicion is painful thats why pipo dont want it. secondly condoms deprive of pleasure. i dont understand why pipo preach condoms and circumsicion. the answer is total abstinence. if we plant the thought of abstinencse we will defeat aids. why is it hard for pipo to abstain. we know this thing is killing us yet we go ahead with it. we even lie to our self that if u cut your foreskin then chances will be low.tell the pipo to stop doing and the aids story will be finished
This circumsion issue will only make not reach orgasm because all the sensitive zones will be chopped off and your pe*nis will be like icitusha. The only way to reduce HIV is abstainance.Don’t mutilate your penis.
If we were all the same and able to abstain then everything would be ok. For those who do not wish or are unable to abstain then the use of condoms should be encouraged. I can understand people not wanting to be circumcised but having unprotected intercourse with a casual partner in this day and age anywhere in the world is mind-boggling.
CNN had a discussion on how they want to quit circumcision in the US. One wonders why we should campaign for a practice that the West is getting rid of. They must have seen something wrong with it. Even the Jews were apologising to their kids for having put them through the trauma of circumcision. Be careful with what you lobby for… these muzungus are out to make money.Â
What Kind of ignorance is this I am reading here? Who told you that circumcission takes away pressurerHey fellow Zambians, I am circumcised, and I can tell you I have maximum pressure, and I demand that you all consider getting rid of your skins. It may save you from getting STD. Do not take a risk.
Bottom line is, do’nt give me that fake holy holy obstaining, when deep down your hearts know it is hard for you to keep your words. Just like you demand that women take all sorts of contraceptive, its high time you rethink your decisions and go for a raser. Condoms Please. None negotiable. James
Circumcision is a dangerous distraction in the fight against AIDS. Â There are 6 African countries where men are more likely to be HIV+ if they’ve been circumcised: Cameroon, Ghana, Lesotho, Malawi, Rwanda, and Swaziland. Â Eg in Malawi, the HIV rate is 13.2% among circumcised men, but only 9.5% among intact men. Â In Rwanda, 3.5% v 2.1%. Â If circumcision really worked against AIDS, this just wouldn’t happen. Â We now have people calling circumcision a “vaccine” or “invisible condom”, & viewing circumcision as an alternative to condoms.
The one randomized controlled trial into male-to-female transmission showed a 54% higher rate in the group where the men had been cut.
ABC (Abstinence, Being faithful, Condoms) is the way forward. Â Promoting genital surgery will cost African…
I tend to differ with #7, he seems not to understand the impact of HIV/AIDS on humans the world over but especially among Africans. Circumcision is not the answer to avoid contracting the virus…the answer is in ABSTINENCE….be faithful to your partner and enjoy life to the fullest. Having many sexual partners does not constitute machoness (like a super dude of some sort)…..it’s simply with people who are shortsighted like yourself. I’ve been told by many women that in fact the best sex they ever had was with the man intact with his penis not the chopped one….it makes sex uncomfortable and unenjoyable. Please research more before you open your dirty unprogressive mouth. From now on….start preaching ABSTINENCE….Learn to keep what you got in your pants period!
I want to agree that circumcision is a big distraction from the HIV battle. You cant force people to go for genital multilation! Nkhani yojubana ku tweni is not the solution. Lets talk Abstainance. Lets talk Faithfulness. Its all about good moral behaviour here. This message on circumcision is sending wrong signals to most people. Lets not even talk of 60% prevention, because this issue is still under heavy debate worldwide. Viva Ntweni!!
# 7 Its pleasure, How long does it take for the sore to heal? I could just try it. But ma guys kuti mwaleka abakashi bambutuka. I need someone to tell me how painful this procure is and how long it takes to heal. Isn’t it too late natukula. # 7 Advise
# 11 if the operation is done in the hospital it wont pain obviously there will be some pain after the anaesthetic wears of but it’s bearable. I understand it heals off within days. # 8 Studies have shown in Zambia that there is less HIV infections in North Western Zambia where circumcision is tradional and almost 3/4 of the locals are cut, thats how the campaign even started. If you go to clinic 7 UTH Dr. Manda even carries out a reaserch where the operation is done for free to help him collect data. I have been a strong advocate of abstainance but one has to accept that we live in a world where morals are the last thing on peoples mind hence whatever can be done to reduce the spread let it be done
# 8 glad you too know this.
#12 The campaign to circumcise was started long before the African trials. Just google the research scientists/ doctors of these trials and see their pro-circ agenda of years past. They have gone into desperate countries promising the people relief. Constructed the studies by not taking into account certain confounders to get the result they wanted.
“Beware of Greeks bearing gifts!” Except these Greeks are circumcised and are bent to circumcise everyone.
Know that the medical and cosmetic industries buy infant foreskins from the hospitals in the US for $14 each. US rates continue to go down. I wouldn’t doubt Africa is the new source as it was just reported at global news that just circ’d men are not allowed to take away home their severed foreskins.
Is circumcision a passport to bonk without a condom????????
Iye, #4# mwaligomauka sana, your rationale is very shallow. Keep on thinking that way.
#10 Ba Moze, you are right we can only win this war only with behavioural change.Lets emphasize abstinence and faithfulness. If anything ,lets introduce sharia law pa-zed.most people are being misled about this circumcision….many will perish. It will do us more harm than good.Just that notion that circum. reduces the risk excites the pipo and they in turn become more “careless”.
It is a disaster in the making for people in positions of power to be talking of “circumcision and condoms” in that order. Condoms have been proved to work with high efficiency, if only people will use them. Circumcision has only been tried in the “laboratory” and has so far only protected 73 men (out of 5,400 circumcised) from HIV for less than two years – perhaps. The claim that it will reach this rate in real-life conditions has yet to be tested.
James does not say if he was circumcised as an adult and therefore has anything to compare with, and if so, what it was done for. If he badly wanted to be circumcised, his opinion is suspect. It is certainly contrary to common sense that cutting off a part of the body filled with specialised nerves will not damage sensation.
# n South Africa, a trial in Orange Farm enrolled 3,000 men ages 18 to 24. The circumcised men were approximately 60 percent less likely to acquire HIV than the uncircumcised men (Auvert B, Taljaard D, Lagarde E, et al., 2007).
# In Uganda’s Rakai District, in a study among 4,996 men ages 15 to 49, circumcision reduced the risk of HIV infection by approximately 51 percent (Gray, RH, Kigozi G, Serwadda D, et al., 2007).
# In Kenya, 2,784 men ages 18 to 24 joined a study in Kisumu. HIV risk was reduced by approximately 59 percent among those who were circumcised (Bailey RC, Moses S, Parker CB, et al. , 2007). An ongoing follow-up study found that this protective effect was sustained over 42 months, reducing men’s chances of becoming infected with HIV by 64 percent (4).
#17- Above are 3 randomized control trials, conducted within populations in a “community” (NOT laboratory) setting. To anyone whom is concerned about the validity of male circumcision, please refer to these studies, which have helped to developed both WHO’s and UNAID’s stance on promoting male circumcision.
Secondly, no one is claiming that circumcision is better than condoms or abstinence. But, to assume that a whole nation will practice abstinence is ludicrous-
Circumcision is not the end all solution. Nor is it a “passport to boink without condoms.” It simply lowers your risk. Risk reduction is not complete protection. BUT why not give yourself as many weapons as you can to protect yourself? Education is critical (as are condoms!). Find facts- don’t fall prey to hysteria.
And, who is making money on these campaigns??!?
Please, please, please look into credible sources:

Ha, Poor africans are being conned out of their foreskins by being told that it’ll reduce their chances of AIDS? That’s some crazy BS there. If anyone tries to tell you to cut off part of your body MUCH LESS YOUR PENIS then you should be incredibly suspicious of them.
Circumcision will not stop AIDS, it won’t even slow it down. All Male Genital Mutilation will do is distract people from the reality that Abstinence Being faithful and Condoms ARE THE ONLY METHODS TRULY CAPABLE OF STOPPING AIDS. Don’t let these fools with ulterior motives lie to you about circumcision people of Africa!
