Esther asked to mourn fan and help orphans

Share

News about the death of Loveness Masuku 34, who died in Mazabuka during the fight between Esther Phiri
and US boxer, Terri Blair, shocked some Kabwe residents who have described the incident as unfortunate.

Speaking to ZANIS today, the residents said it would be better for Esther to show concern and contribute to the funeral of the late
Masuku who left behind three children.

Mr Obino Musonda said the incident should remind Esther that there are people in the country who would not be happy if she lost any fight.

‘’This is a sign that many people in Zambia love Esther because of her style of fighting and such people can not withstand any loss,’’ he
said.

Mr Musonda also asked Esther to consider taking over sponsorship of some of the children of the deceased, if not all, left by the late Masuku and ensure they continued going to school if they were in school.

He also implored the National Milling Company, Esther’s sponsor, to see how the company could help Masuku’s family, especially children left behind.

Another Kabwe resident, Raphael Chikasa, expressed shock and surprise at the news of Masuku’s death and implored Esther to move
quickly to Mazabuka to mourn her late staunch supporter.

Mr Chikasa suggested that the National Milling Company and Esther should do something for the children.

Masuku is reported to have collapsed when Esther sustained a cut on her face during the fight last Saturday and she was pronounced dead at Mazabuka district hospital where she was rushed by a relative.

  1. People of Zed why should it be the responsibility of Esther when she also has a big family to look after? The daeth of that fan or Masuku was just a coincidence and sorry to the family behind.MHSRIP, but i should feel this will be unfair for poor Esther to be given such a situation she did not kill her either period.

  2. The family of the deceased should not put this on Esther. This goes back to what I said yesterday. Boxing is not a sport ….Fight, Watch at your own risk.

  3. Come on people, why should it be Esther’s resposibility to take care of this woman’s children.Granted, its is a veru terrible coinidence but it should not at all be dumped on Esther. If she wants, yes, she cxan go to the funeral but making any form of finacial contribution should only come in if she so wishes.

  4. What! This would be laughable if lady had not died, but it is absurd to think that what caused her death was the match, good luck getting that as a cause of death. Its like suggesting that whatever is happening before anyone dies is the cause of death. Its called underlying condition.

  5. Esther should show sportswomanship by visiting to share her condolences for the late fan. She is not obliged to render financial/material support.

  6. If Esther decides to help the family of the deceased, then that would be nice. But it is wrong to ask her. Whats wrong with you people? Why do you like begging? Creating all sorts of reasons to get some money off someone! To even suggest Esther should keep the deceased’s children is unacceptable!

  7. There is one MP, must have been a Colonel chakuti chakuti, who died while watching Zambia some ten years back. I suppose the naional team did not take over looking after the man’s family especially that they contributed to his death by losing.

  8. ehe tulinamalilo boss, naine nkambeko and I want to say that ester shuld even marry the husband to the late woman. And also this is farming season so ester shuld be reminded that b4 the woman collapsed her uncle in the village had requested for fertilizer and the father to the same late woman had requested for a chigayo so ester shuld make sure she sorts these issues out.And because of this sad incidence Cottan and his National Milling Co. must reduce the cost of mealie meal to half the price so that the mourners can feed well. The americans who flew all the way from the america land ukwisafye mukucita ulubuli kumyesu shuld be made accountable for this sad incidence. Ee heh tuli namalilo boss ifwe so because of this involvement by the americans we now demand more Direct Foreign Investimate!

  9. Esther is not the coz of the death, its not her obligation to take care of the children, Funs if you have problems with breathing like me dont go for such sports dont watch finish. MHSRIP, she can go and morn thats all

  10. hmmm ba LT boss naimwe, is the word chi.ga.yo a bad word for u to put *** instead? Tulinamalilo boss so don’t disturb us.

  11. Whilst it could be proved that the lady died while watching the fight between Esther and the American, it is really hard if not impossible to prove that the punches which landed on Esther were the direct cause of the death. It was just bound to happen…the woman could have been a ”moving death”. Sorry ,but let the relatives investigate the underlying cause

  12. For all you students of logic, this is a classical case of post hoc, ergo propter hoc (after this, therefore because of this) fallacy. Condolences to the family for their loss but Ester is legally or otherwise obligated to any of what the relatives want. Ester herself grew up poor and probably has a long line of her own relatives to help. We need to get away from this business of asking for alms.

  13. My deep sympathy to the family for the loss of their loved one. MHSRIP… My opinion is that Esther should only go for that funeral if she so wishes to. The issue of her adopting any of the children should not even be talked of, zed pipo lets be logical…..

  14. This is ridiculous. The fan probably had a medical condition and she just happened to die out of the excitement. Ester can send a card. That’s all. what will stop people claiming for all sorts of deaths in future? What Esther can do is to donate to a charity for people with heart conditions. but that’s her choice. Esther you are doing a good job although we could see you were in trouble from Blair. Keep on the good work and enjoy your prize. do not forget to invest wisely as sport is a short career. May the fan RIP.

  15. shame on these people for putting unnecessary pressure and guilt on ester this is just absurd, who is this Mr Obino Musonda? Ester is an athlete, an intertainer, she is not responsible for who watches her fights, their reactions and let alone their physical condition!! am a die hard Manchester united fan so if i ever drop down dead while watching a match! sir alex ferguson should fly straight to zambia and pay for the funeral right?
this is just ludicrous! mulekeni its her money!! this is the first time i have heard of some one being told to “donate” if she feels complied to do it of her own free will then let her do it if not its still her choice. lets stop this mentality that people always owe us something.

  16. Like everyone has said, Esther is not by any means obligated/obliged to help the deceased’s children. The woman (MHSRIP) may have been sick PRIOR to the match. The match was probably a CATALYST of her death. Now, if Esther is led to help out, then praise be to God, but we should not put pressure on her because it’s not her responsibility. My parent’s neighbour in Zambia has the habit of running amok each time the chipolopolo boys score. He will smash windows, uproot flowers and all that. Are we gonna hold the chipolopolo boys responsible for his behaviour? H.E.C.K no. Or maybe we should ask FAZ to pay for the repairs? Again H.E.C.K. to the no!

  17. Let me take this opportunity to say that I am looking for a Zambian man to marry me. Let me know if anyone is available. I am an african american lady aged 35 and seriously looking to settle down.

  18. You’ll get over it…’ It’s the clichés that cause the trouble. To lose someone you love is to alter your life for ever. You don’t get over it because ‘it’ is the person you loved. The pain stops, there are new people, but the gap never closes. How could it? The particularness of someone who mattered enough to grieve over is not erased by anyone but death. This hole in my heart is in the shape of you and no one else can fit. Why would I want them to?

  19. God Himself acts, and causes others to act; everything is in His Hands. He Himself bestows life and death; He is with us, within and beyond. No one seeks the Sanctuary of God, the Master of all hearts.

  20. Sad story! However, unless on the death certificate it says, CAUSE OD DEATH – “ESTHER”., then she is responsible. There was a soccer fan in Kenya who died when Arsenal tost to some team. No one from Europe was concerned. This explains why I do not support an European or “whitish” soccer. When I see a Zambian developing BP over Manchester, I just say F.O.O.L

  21. Those of you that were at the fight. Can plz tell me how on earth did Ester win that fight.. she was outclassed and out fought in every sense.
    African judges!

  22. Typical Zambians. They want to reap where they did not sow. I don’t see anybody else stepping into the ring to help Esther. She fights alone. But these people want to pile their problems on her. This is why it is difficult for Zambians to better themselves. As soon as one starts earning some money, everyone wants a piece of the action. She should politely refuse these calls.

  23. Tho its sad somehow this is very fun, we definately need a psychology doctor to explain to us how a cut sustained by a punch could cause death of a person who was not participating in the ring but a spectator and how honestly should Esther be responsible for her death, such that some people think Esther should now take a burden of taking care of the deceased children? how is that fair? definately not.

  24. Sad story… M.H.S.R.I.P… # 3 I totally agree..!
    # 21 Chris ..Is that really true about your parents’ neighbour ?

  25. Not long ago there was a stampind at Konkola stadium when Zambia national team was playing and many people dead, and nobody ever said Zambian national soccer team should now look after the families of the deceased people in that stampind. Now some of you here who are suggesting that Esther should take care of children left behind by this woman why didn’t you say the same to your regular loser’s national team players? That poor woman just suffered heart attack and unfortunately people around her had no idea of doing CPR before they could even rush her to the hospital were she was pronounced dead.

  26. #31.Its very possible for a death to result from watching something but it doesn’t mean the incidence watched before death qualifies to be “cause of death”.There’s what is called “vasovagal syncope” so google it and it may help u understand events like this.

  27. #31 Yes, it’s very true! Last time Zambia played, he almost chocked his wife. It sounds crazy, but it’s true. No one wants to be around him when the chipolopolo boys are on the field.

  28. This is daylight robbery… Blackmail! If I were Esther I wouldn’t even cough out a cent… even supporting the late’s children? What c.r.a.p! People should take greater responsibility of their own lives and the lives of their families, rather than hoping for handouts from others, govt, etc….

  29. #37 Please if you are not interested, keep quiet and let those who are interested respond. How am I contaminating the site? Is it wrong to try to find love?

  30. What evidence is there that the late passed away because of watching Esther’s fight? Wasn’t she already sick before watching? Did she take any precautions as she was watching. Did the docyors find out that Esther’s fight was the cause of this death???? There are more questions than answers ans Esther should not be brought into this at all. Looking after someone is long term commitment. Sorry but this is not right.

  31. what is this zambians? Olo ni poverty, why cant people mek an apeal to the general populus for help? it meks much more sense than targeting Ester.

  32. #19 koma wanisekesa na story yako , everybody in the office wondered why i was laughing. But for sure we cant hold esther to ransom , if she helps that will be good and God bless her. maybe that woman was just to die in one way or another. MHSRIP.

  33. That was just as bad but we can not hold esther at ransom and tell her to sponsor the funeral and above all the kids , but if it is so touching to her she will help.

  34. That is total rubbish there is no need for Esther to morgaged to the family of fan who died whilst watching the bout with Blair. In the past football fans have died whilst watching Chipolopolo in action on TV or others at the stadium there has never been anything klike that. May those concerned plase find alternative sources of living. Let us avoid being parastic. We all suport Esther and were on nerves whilst watching the fight.

  35. we should not talk ill about the dead but am made to wonder if at all this woman was responsible for her life and that of her children if just as soon as she is dead her neighbours wants her kids adopted and even financing of her funeral. what kind of life did she lead before that evening? it would look like they just want to take advantage of esther, where is the father to those 3 kids, the relatives to both husband and the deceased for the kids to lack wobasunga lelo?

  36. In my personal opinion the death means Ester has got poeple who LOVE her and gave the support even if they didnt physically attend the fight. Therefore, being the first case in Ester’s career ,its just good for Ester to do something with regard to the funeral .Just the little she can afford it will go along way.Buying a coffin, food and a little present for the Kid of our diseased sister.Thats it.Its not ESTER’S responsibility and she lives with people who LOVE her and who care for her.So please ester help and GOD will bless you.You may not go there but even send some one its ok ,if you can the better.Thank you Zambians and GOD BLESS YOU.AMEN

  37. Ester doesn’t have to do anything. That fateful night, alot of people were disappointed. Some drunk themselves to stupior, others picked up the local whores to vent off their frustration. Is that Ester fault too?

  38. The idea of esther taking responsibility over those children doesnt make sense. If 10 people had died, was she going to be asked to sponsor their families.Thats blackmail. She also has her own family to take care of.She must just attend the funeral, thats all!

  39. This is a sad story. I believe Ester is equally not financially stable so she can maybe donate something to show solidarity but nothing much.

  40. #4 What nosense! #29 You are very right. I dont know what has happened to some of us Zambians. Is it jelousy of Esther causing all this. The incident of a woman passing on in Mazabuka was most unfortunate and May Her Soul Rest in Peace! Please I beg of you to leave Esther alone. She is just a young girl who has identified her talent in fighting having come from a very humble background. Lets encourage her and support her. This is a very cruel outburst that you force her to go and mourn. I hope whoever looks after this website to do something and protect Esther. This has become too MUCH!!!

  41. This was a very unforturnate incident. May she rest in peace and God watch over her children. Having said that,
    1. this is the most ridiculous conversation I have ever read; 2. the American, Terri Blair, sure must pack a heck of a punch to not only cut Esther’s face but to have also somehow possibly injured a spectator; and 3. good luck Christy finding true love.

  42. Let us be realistic people, how can Esther take such a big responsibility? Imagine another one dies should that also lie on Esther’s responsibility? It is not fair.Let us just control ourselves and our emotions and find a tangible way forward as whole community to help those hopeless children. Esther was just doing sport and anything can happen in sport competition.Weldone Esther it is not easy to throw punches.
