VICE President George Kunda says people questioning the continuation of the legacy of late President Levy Mawanawasa are being malicious.

Mr . Kunda said he together with the late President and the current President Rupiah Banda were attacked and insulted when they were putting the current policies in place by the same people who are now championing the legacy.

Mr . Kunda said the MMD government was still following the development plan that was devised under the late President Mwanawasa in 2006 such as the Fifth National Development Plan.

He explained that the donors were still funding the programmes under the FNDP adding that support from the donors was growing stronger and stronger and that this showed the confidence the donors had in the programmes that government was implementing.

The Vice President was speaking in an interview in Livingstone today when he featured on Zambezi FM radio station.

”We have a development plan which we devised under the Late President Levy Mwanawasa in 2006. We developed these documents together and at that time President Rupiah Banda was Vice-President and most of us were ministers. Donors still have the confidence because it is the same government but we must appreciate that Mr. Banda is an individual and he has his own qualities but we are implementing a national programme,” he said.

Mr. Kunda said the economy was growing stronger and that the issue of the legacy should not arise adding that the National Anti-Corruption Policy that was recently launched by President Rupiah Banda started before the death of the late President.

Mr. Kunda said the MMD government was on course in terms of development and service delivery adding that the government was working on a five year manifesto and the FNDP.

He said so far, government had included all its nine provinces in the development agenda.

  1. donor funding should cease, just fueling corruption. most zambians do not understand what is met by “donor” funding..

  2. Boss sure, how do you talk about continuity of Levy legacy when you went to London on tax payers’ money to process a high profile corruption case, after he dies M.H.S.R.I.P you make a U-turn and discourage the out come of it’s judgement? furthermore cerebrate the acquital and fire Nkole for trying to make a legal appeal. Pliz tizinkalako serious?

  3. This is big time madness. Zambians are not stupid. The all of 2008 by-election campain of RB was based on Mwanawasa legacy otherwise RB was far from being a Republican president, by the way what does he have to show for the time he spent as vice president? Absolutly nothing, very poor cv indeed!!! Come Goerge you can do better that just to becom a boot liker. I thought Layers have good memories???

  4. Levy’s windfall tax was a great policy that people remember and associate his legacy. However, MMD and RB admin do not even want to consider it???? Windfall tax was undeniably a Levy policy success during his reign.

  5. # 6, The issue of windfall tax has been ably explained, let’s move forward. Strategy demands that you look at your circumstances all the time. Howling like Chishimba “Hyena” Kambwili all the time will not take this country forward.

  6. The so called veep seems to suggest that the dishing out of brown envelopes to MMD cadres is part of the development plan.

  7. Bushe George paliba ichikalipa? every time his face shows a grim of pain like something is heating his bones or what?

  8. FNDP? You have no time left for the FNDP as it expires 2010 it will need to start again with SNDP (SIXTH national development plan, what a joke).

  9. # 11 I can never agree any more. It’s always Levy this Levy that…Legacy this legacy that. People PLEASE! Mwanawasa was a brilliant president who was after self actualisation. Making a mark for how he run the country because he had already achieved his monetary needs. But he also had his faults. What surprises me is people want to talk about his good and get annoyed or feel descriminated when someone talks about his wrongs. RB unfortunately is an old man his strategies and ways are not what the country needs right now to move forward. So no matter how much you criticise him you just thinks people are ungrateful. So 2011 vote for youg radical minds!

  10. Of course people will note continue everything Levy was doing being a smart guy he is. Levy was hiding what was happening at Zambina Airways for the sake of getting positive publicity from the Past News papers. Levy was willing to pay his lawyer friends big sums of money such as US$13million to chase US$500pin!! RB is not doing these things because he is not a petty man. If he was petty he was going to make sure FTJ is arrested as he was arrested during FTJ’s rule. RB is a mature leader whose interest is do the right thing even if it costed him his job. What a great leader. He remindes me of Gerand Ford who forgave Nixion and ended up loosing the next election only to be appreciated much later by the citizens.
