Faz has tentative plans to camp the national team in Spain ahead of the Africa Cup tournament in Angola next month but is it really necessary?
Twice, Zambia have camped in Europe ahead of their Africa Cup outing but with no tangible results coming out of their excursions in both France and Spain ahead of the 2006 and 2008 tournaments.
I believe these exotic European training camps are all just a matter of prestige and a mare PR stunt to put a gloss over a modest side.
Zambia will be based in the south-western Angolan town of Lubango that is well high up and over 10 000 feet sea level in weather conditions that certainly do not match-up to those in Faz’s preferred training camp destination on Iberian Peninsula over the holiday season.
A training camp in northern Namibia will be appropriate enough for Zambia that has similar geographical and weather pattern to Lubango due to its close proximity to the Angolan town.
The northern Namibian town of Oshakati has a sporting venue and is also serviced by scheduled flights from the airport it shares with near-by Ondangwa.
The remote town’s location is ideal enough to also give the team the privacy it needs and to avoid any social distractions.
Meanwhile, Group B sides Togo and Cote d’Ivoire who will be based in the oil enclave of Cabinda on the Atlantic coast, have also decided to camp on the continent.
Cote d’Ivoire will be in steamy Dar es Salaam in Tanzania while Togo will be in humid Pointe Nior in Congo-Brazzaville.
what do you expect from tourists?
It makes some sense though I am not a wheather-physic analyst.
These guys have a target of just getting to second round. Why waste our money on a team that lack ambition. Just camp them in Shangombo or Choma. You don’t need to go to France only to be booted out in the first round. FAZ and its P.E teacher have never won anything for Zambia not a Cosafa cup and not even a useless CECEFA. Why waste our money on such a useless team and administration that Great Galu has put together. Somebody pump some sense into these rabid dogs. Enough is enough please
Its a of waste time, money and a mockery to the soccer loving Zambians! They may as well organise a number of local friendlies with the Zambia U-20 or Zanaco FC! I see no need why we should keep on spending our hard earned kwachas on these hopeless boys who only go there for holidays!!
Meant – its a waste of time, money and a mockery to the soccer loving Zambians! They may as well organise a number of local friendlies with the Zambia U-20 or Zanaco FC! I see no need why we should keep on spending our hard earned kwachas on these hopeless boys who only go there for
We seem to have a good gift for doing the wrong things all the time
And if we say anything to the contrary nomba ba FAZ President bama asha mbama, so lets all shut it!!
typical of zambia, next time they will camp in alaska when the tournament is just in the neighborhood.
nawawo God forbid!!!
Again!!!!!!!!!!!! Do we really learn. Allowing these guys to waste tax payers money. No wonder the FAZ boss is turning to being a boxer
Ba Lt ichisungu when you say have also edcided to camp on the continent, thats like saying they will be camping on the same continent as Zambia.
It’s not about wasting money or the lack of it, there iz just no need/justification to camp our beloved national football team in Spain or anywhere abroad for that matter. Let us take our team to Mbala or Maramba. If there iz any money to spend, let us promise our boiz a hefty bonus for good performance. What the team iz expected to reap from good rezults must be put in black and white now.
Bangwele imwe stop uttering nonsense. If the team camped locally you would have criticized FAZ for not looking for serious preparatory matches. Bushe mwaba shani kanshi? Ninshi inchinto yenu ni critisism fye no matter what?
I see no valid reason in camping the team abroad in Spain. That’s a lot of nonsense…we do not need to be spending money on training camps let alone fail to deliver when the AFCON kicks off. Instead let’s use that money to pay the team well whenever they record a win as this will motivate them to do even better. Tell that Kalu guy to consider camping the team in neighboring Namibia…please! It’s cheaper and has a very similar weather pattern to that of Angola. Learn from Ivory Coast, they will camp in Tanzania and not Europe even though they boast of great players such as Chelsea ‘s Didier Drobga. Please save on tax payers’ money….we are tired of poor leadership even to run FAZ. Go back to the drawing board and look at what can help the team perform better this time around.
HEADLINE: “Zambia Doesnt Need The Rain in Spain”!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Can someone tell me the meaning of this headline, please???!!!
What has “THE RAIN IN SPAIN” got to do with football????
#12 Njooka. Mambala iwe. You have missed the point. Besides the logistics of the weather the team never wins anthything after camping in Europe ? You are one of the many with a complex that training in Europe is the answer. Look at Egypt the last champions and how many players are based at home !
Why not camp in Kabompo or Chavuma, then travel by road to Angola.
#1 has raised very vital points…FAZ think bout it.we love soccer.dont make us now start supportin “fake” ester boxin.
What is FAZ up to now? As the article states let the team camp in the town of Oshakati or Oshikango in northern Namibia. These towns are approx 150 km from Lubango. They also have very good loges if it comfort they are looking for. I have been to both towns and they are perfect as they have similar weather conditions as Lubango, hell the people even speak the same lingo. Not only does this make more sense, it will cut the cost of camping the team by two thirds. FAZ please do something right for a change.
its sad that there are no brains at FAZ. its a matter of researching a little on the venue of our group games and finding a similar place right here on the continent. thats why all the teams coming for the world cup are lining up friendlies in Southern Africa.
The best camping site for Zambia wud be South Africa and please FAZ let Zambia play some friendlies against some north & west African sides.
