Chief Kaindu of Mumbwa’s Kaonde people has lashed out against a named investor whom he has blamed for allegedly depriving residents of their right to catch fish from the Kafue River.
Chief Kaindu told ZANIS that he was unhappy with reports coming from his subjects in the north west part of the Chiefdom, who had complained that an investor identified as Dale Watts had been banning people from fishing in the Kafue river.
The Chief said that although he was aware that the investor bought some land for use as Game Ranch, there was no justification for stopping people from fishing in the river.
He said that he was saddened by the alleged conduct of the investor, saying that the welfare of residents from villages near Kupyamanse, depended much on fishing activities, stressing that the investor had no autonomy over the Kafue river.
Efforts to obtain comment from Mr. Watts were futile at press time.
He reaffirmed his solidarity with his subjects, explaining that he would no longer tolerate investors or other commercial ventures that did not bring any benefit to the people in his domain.

Chief Kaindu vs. Mr. Watts – who holds the handle and who holds the blade?
Give me Dale Watt’s number. I need to speak to this brat!
Pleas chief, fishing needs to be controlled. but it has to be GRZ incetive. you are not to blame for protecting you subjects
Kafue River is a public resource that belongs to everybody and no individual has the right to make any claims or demands about who is allowed to fish there or not. However, while I agree that fishing does need to be controlled in order to allow fish to re-populate, the Government already has a policy in effect that clearly states the fishing period in the country. This Watts man believes that because he bought land around the lake, he also owns part of the lake, which is absolutely untrue!!! The Chief should take this matter to the Government and I hope it will be handled with the seriousness that it deserves. He has no right to deny the inhabitants their livelihood.
This Watts dude, whats wrong with him? he thinks this is the colonial era were they used to dictate what happens in foreign lands! ? As much as fishing should be controlled this dude needs to understand that we have a government that has policies on fishing. He should not involve himself in the the way we handle our policies. If we want to finish all the fish in Zambia, so be it its non of his damn business! We will handle this on our own and so please Mr Watts keep your controlling nonsense to yourself.
Bloggers easy. Get the facts first. This is only one side of the story. Firstly I can not see how anyonecan stop me fishing if i am not in his land. Secondly if i am not mistaken there is a fishing ban right now. So ease before you come out firing!!! Try and do some research first
# 3. I support you 100%. Chiefs must understand that fishing has to be controlled if fish has to continue in his area. We all understand that there is hunger. But if food is not controlled, the situation may even worsen in the years to come. So Chief, let’s understand the nature and population explosion.
Am goin to be get sick. How long have the subjects of Chief Kaindu continued to be alive and well before some chap from who knows where should try to save them with starvation in the name of new investment laws?
Chap should instead go and preach peace to the Israelites.
Bushe why do we keep on inviting these pipo?To come and mistreat our very own people? These infestors who come to Zambia mainly are the low class people from God knows where with self esteem issues. I was visiting ndola i was surprised how full it is of Somalians. Personally I don’t appreciate such people no matter what infestations(investment) they bring to this Country.
Fishing should be controlled at anytime. This is to give chance small fish to grow and big fish to breed,so this chief need to be educated on this part otherwise all the fish will be finished in the river.
Livingstone, what have you “inhaled” ?
Who is this ****ing watts, let the people do the fishing its not for you to implement the fish ban but Bwezana’s.Iwe watts whatever you call yourself you only own a piece of land not the river oh no! wait a minute maybe am wrong did Kanitundila also sell the river to you?
People need to eat…do not take their culture and way of life away from them. If they are having problems with commercial fishing maybe people in that village can buy a license to fish. Additionally, have a limit on the amount of fish they get from the river. The license money can be used to improve or breed more fish in river.
Every body agrees that people have to eat but it has to be a control to ensure those people have for their future and the future of their children. They can reviewed laws and enforced them like they do in the US and teach them to be more responsible with their natural resources.with out abusing the people.
