ZESCO has bemoaned the continued mushrooming of structures built under its high voltage pylons.

Cooperation Senior Manager for Marketing and Public Relations Lucy Zimba said a team of experts has since been dispatched to Lusaka’s Chawama compound to investigate the escalating levels of the problem.

Ms Zimba said in an interview with ZANIS in Lusaka today that it is illegal for people to build under ZESCO pylons as doing so is a risk to life and infrastructure.

She said ZESCO is partnering with the Lusaka City Council (LCC) to find possible means on how to bring the vise to a stop.

Meanwhile Ms Zimba has disclosed that the transformer that blew up in Choma district causing power outages for one week has been replaced.

She said the transformer was replaced on Monday bringing the situation back to normal.

And speaking in a separate interview LCC Spokesperson Henry Kapata confirmed that they have had meetings with the department of engineering at ZESCO on how they can partner to end building of structures under ZESCO pylons.

  1. Why this nosense. Go and destroy the useless structures. Why should you even waste time on that straight issue??? Atase bane!!!!

  2. Lt. General Reverend Shikapwasha and Michael Mulenga Chilufya Satan have to be the two most sinister reptiles creeping the Zambian political landscape at the moment. I was there on that British Airways flight from London to Lusaka via Harare when Zimbabwe security agents stormed the plane and asked Dr Chongwe who was seated right behind my role to leave the plane with him. The other person who was on that flight that day was Xavier Chungu, Kamucheka General. We learnt later that Zim and South African agents had uncovered a plot by Chiluba to have KK and Chongwe killed. Now, Shikapwasha was Air Commander and Sata Minister without Portfolio then. They clearly were part of the plot to kill him and KK, its sinister of them today to ridicule Chongwe in such a manner because he was forced into…

  3. exile for genuine fear for his life. I just hope someone does the same to either one or both of these children of Lucifer.

  4. # 1 and # 2 . I totally agree with that. The LCC needs to be reminded of it’s responsibilities.
People should also be educated of the serious risk of cancer posed by living in such proximity to high voltage power lines.

  5. “Zesco bemoans….” Always bemoaning, but for how long???We are tired, talema na bemoaning!!!! Why can’t Zesco go directly to LCC and order LCC to stop giving themselves plots under high voltage power lines?? Why waste our time on this straight forward issue!

  6. Ture to the fact that those people erecting buildings under pylons must have been allowed by LCC, Let Mr Kapata persue this matter thoroughly. Consequently bring the culprits to book and punitive measures must be put in place to impede this vise.
