MMD still a force – Magande

MMD Chairperson for Finance and Economics Ng’andu Magande has said the MMD is still a strong party and the recent losses in the by-elections should not make people lose faith in the party.

Mr Magande said in an interview yesterday the MMD was still strong on the ground and that problems the party was experiencing could be resolved internally.

He said although MMD members were saying the party was currently facing serious problems, he personally felt the issues could easily be sorted out from within the party.

Mr Magande, who is Chilanga member of Parliament, said the MMD was a movement, which should not lose steam just because one or two people were not interested in it.

The former minister of Finance said he was a strong member of the MMD who was extremely comfortable in the ruling party where he had been for a long time and would not join any other party.

“I personally feel the problems our party is facing now are minor and should not derail the MMD. It is something we can sort out as a party.

“The MMD is still strong because even the recent loss in Solwezi Central was just a minor setback which should not portray that the party is finished.

“I have been talking to the people of Solwezi and they have told me that despite losing the Solwezi Central seat, the MMD still remains a strong party on the ground and they still want it,” he said.

Mr Magande said it was wrong for people to think he was a rebel whenever he said something perceived to be contrary to the party.

Mr Magande said the formation of new political parties in the country was not a solution to the problems being faced by the people of Zambia.

He said there were already more than 30 political parties in Zambia and did not think the formation of any more political parties would solve the problems the people of Zambia were facing.

The solution to the country’s problems was not about how many political parties should be there but how focused to national development the leaders were.

  1. Nipaseni Nchito. Bootlicking tendency. The turn-coat. Cloth stretcher. Gutter scrapping counter- jumper.
Magande just wants a position in MMD now.

  2. MMD is likely to go come 2011,however i dont see much hope in the PACT either, though i think they are better than MMD under RB because, am not seeing any REAL change …same people using a different name.Maybe we need to try something else besides POLITICS.I have lost hope in zambian politics. But i still believe that zambia shall be SAVED but not by politicians especially the current crop .BUT since we cant have the REAL for now i will support the PACT but i will remain open minded.

  3. Isn this the same Magande who won the Chilanga seat by fraudulent means, using CDF funds, then sued by one Priscila Mwenya Kamanga for electoral malpractises,,,,we are just recycling the same old crooks,he is definately standing for the mmd presidency and to some he has become a hero overnight, but try and look in his closet, its full of skeletons

  4. ba magande, the day u will be blocked from attending the convertion because of the unending investigations in the zambian airways scam wil be the day you wake up.wake up magande, these guys are trying to block u from the convention and they will secceed!…RB is in MMD 2 finish it

  5. I hope Magande haz found a tunnel in the MMD or indeed seen the light at the end of it. Hiz obzervation iz right on though, and a wake-up call to the oppozition.

  6. Too late, badala. You are a rebel and a rebel you shall remain and come 2011 you will have no constituency as even your own village has disowned you for your unmitigated arrogance.

  7. WITH BANDA AS ITS CANDIDATE IN 2011 MMD WILL BE A TOILET BUT WITH MAGANDE IT WILL BE AS GOOD AS FISHING WITH DYNAMITE

  8. Please zambians, see the type of leader you want to have in the name of sata see how he behaved on that international program, so thugerly for a leader,The PF leader, who stormed out of the programme twice and openly attacked co –guest Sharon Freeman, president and founder of All American Small Business Exporters Association for supporting Chinese investment, charged that China was engaged in modern slavery as it was out to rape Africa of its resources.
Please yes change is good, but change should make alot more sense, I would rather we stick to mmd at least they listern when pushed to the corner, I am PF but i was left with no good words for my leader in the manner he behaved on that international forum

  9. In physics, the concept of force is used to describe how a massive body is affected by acceleration or mechanical stress. Which of these 2 does Magande attribute to MMD?

  10. #15 KUKU.Do you watch BBC’s HARD TALK with Stephen Sukar.it’s very confrontational and guys interviewed particularly African leaders get very very annoyed and react in the same way if they feel their pribciples or coutries are being m0cked.Did you watch OBASANJO’s interview. Did you watch The SUDANESE President’sone.it was steaming hot and the interviewer attacked viciously to defend his assertions and received punches too.THATS WHAT A STRAIGHT TALK, LARRY KING LIVE, HARD TALK PROGRAMME IS ABOUT. and if you accept to being a guest go there expecting to be hammered! That cheap Dr DID NOT SAY ANYTHING ABOUT Chinese invt impact on DEV. She could quantify anything.. SATA said 85% unemployment is our major headache. She couldn even tie her thesis to any KEY economic indicator in any…

  11. #15 KUKU.. SHE and the whole programme was JUST SET-UP to HELP HER PROMOTE HER BOOK.. and didn’t bother and ignored what we African really feel about the whole CHinese thing..Just because she lived in CHina for 12 yrs andd liked it she didn’t bother to understand us. our hearts and minds of the ordinary african.. how we see things.. SATA like the 2 callers figured out the scam of a programme. and went on attack hitting the moderator. Like OBASANJO or any loving African would realising programm was a scam andnot HARD TALK. He was right Horse rider relationship. China are in to do business and collect raw material and process a nice prices elsewhere and leave nothing for the countries except wages + some accoutnign profit+ a couple of roads and buildings.. She refused to acknowledge that.

  12. #18 Digga, You are like the Germans in 1936, trying to justify and apologise for everything Aldolf Hitler was doing even though it was clear to everybody that the man was mad and from the lunatic fringe of society. When he siezed power, it was too late. Do you think Michael Sata is a listening, patient, tolerant and understanding and learned person that the country needs for the 21st Century. The interview on VOA showed very clearly what kind of personality we are dealing with. If that is the quality we want for President to represent us at the UN General Assembly , let us prepare ourselves for the ultimate disgrace.

  13. Well digga #18 and Ukwenda # 19. sata has positive and negative traits like us all. However on that program he fared teribly attacking the co presenter instead of articulating the issue at hand. now for me that is the fear of Sata. I shudder to think of him leading Zambia under the president constitution where the President is so powerful. Lets face it all that is wrong in the MMd can be linked to Sata. Even the way he runs his party is certainly more undemocratic than the MMD. I am not for once saying that RB is better but it is not an easy decision to make. I also say for all those who says MMD time is up that Sata is probably more MMd than Sata, he was with the party who served with dedication until he was passed on for President. while RB is a new entrant. But then what do I know

  14. Magande is just seeking popularity within the MMD to facilitate his aspirations to challenge for the presidency at the convention. Politicians are CRAFTY.

  15. Not too long ago Magande said that Zambia will not be affected by the Credit Crunch. Even Fundanga supported him. We shall wait & see!!

  16. Magande knows he wouldn’t survive a bye election like Mpombo or Namulambe. He is scared of an expulsion. But the pact would scoop the Chilanga seat back to UPND. After all Magandes win was somehow staged. He is not popular. Can MMD please go ahead and expel him so that we take over again.

  17. Badala you can’t learn. MMD will never give you any space to run for president. We were trying to be considerate towards you for your good work in the previous administration but you seem to have illusions or hallucinations of taking over from RB. RB wants to start crawling out of old age while in state house which means he is there to stay. It is only the pact you can rely on.

  18. #19 100% right #18 Digga my brother what is wrong with you, such blind loyalty from an assumed intellectual like you is disgusting to say the list. There is no need to justify that serious embarassment exposed by the PF president as you have all heard by now. It was beyond humilliating and an embarassment of the calibre of leaders in Zambia. Go to the people in Zimbabwe today and ask them if they still have the same blind loyalty you are exposing today for Mugabe. For me Sata and Mugabe are one and the same, there is no difference, only that the other is educated, definitely not Sata. Digga go ahead and vote that tryant in office, and then lets talk when your mother has seen what made kwale’s mouth red!!!!!

  19. Magande nomics, i thought you had a brain! Badala, you should jump out of MMD before the fire gets red hot. If you think RnB will let you have a go at Presidence at the covention you are highly mistaken. These thugs will never allow it. Look at you alternatives before it gets too late!

  20. My God! we are all strugling to know who the leader is. I wish to remind you all that only God himself knows who is the best leader for us. All we need to do at this point is to Pray to God so that we are given a leader choosen by him. If I was a preacher I could have added a vs from the Bible.
Please children of Mother Zambia. Let us all go in our churches and ask God first to forgive us our sins and then ask for a God fearing leader. To me this is what will make a good leader. All our leaders do not know God. I don’t mean to judge but this is my opinion.

  22. MMD ni cholera, cholera.
    MMD ni cholera, cholera.
    MMD kuya bebele, zwa

  23. Well,, MMD will still win the elections if they change the presidential candidate. I do not think Banda is the right man for the job. The maths is simple. if pact put sata as their candidate, they can still take their provinces back,, not those who do not think sata is a presidential material. This man can not develop zambia. The problem is can rupiah banda be defeated during the convetion. it is up to the MMD is still want to rule this country but not with rupiah banda. Magande stand a chance to defeat sata. SATA has no other provinces to get votes from other than his homelands,, otherwise he will be history in zambian politics. Personaly I do not see sata as the person to redeem zambia..!!!!

  24. The only chance MMD has after 2011 is to change leadership and if Magande and Kavindele can work together then MMD may survive,if not then its bye bye MMD and hello PF-UPND Pact.

  25. Magande contributed to the stability of Zambian economy. This man is very intelligent and I totally agree with him because he is a man of substance. I really agree with him because as long as MMD keeps on re-organising itself 2011 will be a walkover
