MMD national secretary Katele Kalumba is back in the country and is in good health.
Party deputy national secretary Jeff Kaande said Dr Kalumba returned on Thursday and that he is in good health.
Dr Kalumba was evacuated last month to India for specialised medical examination.
Before he was flown to India, Dr Kalumba was discharged from the University Teaching Hospital because of lack of equipment to examine his heart problem.
Ministry of Health permanent secretary Velepi Mtonga said market forces determine which country a Zambian is evacuated to for specialised treatment.

Good to have Katele back. I wonder how market forces come into play here!! Was this the case with Teta, who by the way, ‘Market forces’ dictated that he be brought back to UTH!!
Market forces!!?? Someone better explain this one to me. Fancy sounding but senseless excuse. Everyone used to be evacuated to the infamous Morning Side clinic in Johannesburg but all of a sudden we get to hear more and more of India. What is happening here? Can someone shade some light. Considering that most of the evacuations are made in emergency cases the long haul flight does not seem to make sense especially since the ‘pateints’ travel on commercial flights and not airlifted. The story would hold for Johannesburg. For India……………I dont think so!!
Welocome sanii. Me am fine. While you were away, George and the DPP have been misbehaving. We have not heard from HERB much. There’s no trips to be made, every leader is at home with family. Sorry, RB will be at Mfuwe, he simply cannot stay at ‘home’.
Welcome back bane, I hope you are well enough to try or help put your house MMD in order. Like Grade Seven has said while you were öut” your people were mishaving especially george.
twafwa! aliya panda ifya ku india nomba. Mununga wasn’t enough to miraclously get MMD to win 2011 elections. HAKASATA must think of calling serious powers now. Ni Lesa fye apa. Tupepe saana!!
I must admit,i was hoping for the worst, somehow disappointed that he’s much better,,,iwe ka velepi ndiye vichani ivo manje vamene ubosa market forces, how about shoving it up yo backside or keeping quiet, galu
He fine until he’s required to attend to his unfinished court issues.
Welcome back Sir. I think reporters should press for clarity when people use fancy words like’ market forces’. Does she mean it was cheaper to treat the Dr in India(travel and lodging exp included) than at a clinic in RSA.What did the reporter intent to evoke in the reader by just leaving the statement at ‘market forces’. Am just worried that looking at the political phase we entering, squables in MMD and the position he holds will his heart manage the stress. I know he is a seasoned fighter BUT…
Welcome back Katele Kalumba. George Mpombo can always be forgiven. MMD is for the people and it does not look for faults
The source is not credible.Market forces! hahahahahaa………..demand and supply………just how the heck?
“Back and in good health”. I distinctively recall the same words being used on Teta! FTJ must have told Katele ati, “Mwaiche wandi, kulwala nga taulefwaya ati bakukake! Oh yes, am talking from experience. Zambians are so forgiving nga walwala. They can even evacuate you, oh yes!”
Ba Velepi mwantekunya!! Yangu. Market forces, ka? Am sure she just loves the term. She feels it makes her important and intelligent when she uses those words in a sentence. I suppose for her, even market forces determine if one should get pregnant or not!!
Welcome back ba Kalumba! We hope to hear more sense from you, we have been sickened by Mulongoti and Shikapwasha since you were away. The PS Velepi is fit to be a comedian, she just uses some phrases ignorantly to try and impress.
She should stick to medical terminologies and stay clear of business terms and phrases.
Well, we’ll see how long he is going to last! Every time you hear these MMD chaps claim someone is make “progress’ or “is in good health”, you know tapali ifisuma! Almost all the MMD guys are sick making it very expensive to mantain them.
In time of sickness the soul collects itself anew, I hope the man now has known what the value of health is for they say “Health is not valued till sickness comes.”Stop practisiing divinity and come to God Mr katele,I can smell your end,the same thing we told the hearse man.“Right from the moment of our birth, we are under the care and kindness of our parents, and then later on in our life when we are oppressed by sickness and become old, we are again dependent on the kindness of others. Since at the beginning and end of our lives we are so dependent on other’s kindness, how can it be in the middle that we would neglect kindness towards others?”.To this regard Ghost dog welcomes you back,a chance to prepare your next life.
Medical treatment in India is a lot more cheaper than in RSA.The fact that the doc was “discharged” from UTH implies that he was stable and not in danger so the distance to India wasn’t a factor. And if they used a passenger plane as some blogger has suggested then the travelling costs were even lower than those private planes they hire for evacuations to RSA.The PS chairs the medical board responsible for looking at cases recommended for outside treatment by UTH and she has just given as one of the factors they consider when looking at such cases.I therefore can’t see anything laughable at her use of the term “market forces” because elsewhere hospitals compete against each other by offering their services at competitive prices to their clients.Docs know a lot more than penicilin &…
Mwebantu lets burry differences and learn to pray for each other. Where is your practical Christianity
Back and well??? really..????
Market forces!! Wow what little knowledge can do. Common sense will tell you that all the money that is spent “evacuating” could easily have bought all these specialist equipment. All these evacuees do not have health insurance in those specialist countries, so you can only imagine what the final tab is.
These Pipo should be getting Healthy insurence,, then the companies foot their bills.. cos it not a good excuse as the one the said”discharged from the University Teaching Hospital because of lack of equipment to examine his heart problem.”
So a common man is just discharged and given pain killer and wait for his or her Death.. the money used to send these VIPs can be used to update or upgrade the equipments at UTH.. our Doctor have been reduced to prescribing drugs… and dispite all the money spent some still come as cargo!!!!

FJTs finance minister. Who coutersigned all stolen monies. One of the inner circle. I am suprised seemingly educated Zambians can be welcomming back a man with major corruption cases pending.
We have no hope have ?
Welcome Dr. Katele Kalumba (KK). You are a Doctor indeed and don’t think like those guys in your party who have a narrow worldview. Don’t let either those who have never been to school call you names. Zambia needs men and women of your caliber. We wish you well and hope your corruption case can come to an end
