Mpombo seeks reconciliation

Share

Defence minister George Mpombo

KAFULAFUTA Member of Parliament(MP) George Mpombo has called for reconciliation in the MMD in readiness for 2011 elections.

Mr Mpombo said in Ndola yesterday that time to quarrel should now be over and that there was need for the leaders in the party to take a reconciliatory path in readiness for the 2011 tripartite elections.

But MMD deputy national secretary Jeff Kaande said the party had never differed with Mr Mpombo and that it was his statements that portrayed a picture that there were differences between him and the MMD.
He said time had come for the healing process to commence and give another chance to the members in the spirit of charting the way forward.

Mr Mpombo, who recently has been issuing statements against the party and its leadership, said the mistakes had been made but that now was the time to sit down and find the way forward for the party.

He said people like MMD chairperson for elections, Mike Mulongoti should by now know that time was running out before the 2011 elections and should be the one to promote reconciliation in the party.

“Mistakes have been made, differences have been there but time has now come for us to sit down and chart the way forward for the party,” said Mr Mpombo who declared himself ready for reconciliation if called upon.

Mr Mpombo wondered where the party trustees were to help reconcile the MMD members whenever differences arose.

He said the MMD was still a strong party and that the party leadership would make history to hold a reconciliatory meeting at which the party would be put together before 2011.

But Mr Kaande said no specific person in the party had differed with Mr Mpombo and advised him to instead take a reconciliatory path before it was too late.

  1. Mpombo has seen that the Pact will not make following an embarrassing display on Voice of America by Mr Sata that is chasing away Donors from the pact. The MMD is also slowly succeeding in potrayng the Post (pacts mouth piece) as a quassi political party with its own interest. Mpombo has come to realise that lambas and Tongas can never Vote for sata just as Bembas would never vote for HH or Rupiah. At least lambas and Tongas can all vote for RB. some facts are never good to listen to but they facts and thats the fact.

  2. How can there be reconciliation where there was no differences,Mpombo himself started running his motor mouth unneccessarily, no one provoked him, people like Mulongoti and Shikapwasha and whoever might have said anything was coz they were reacting to his statements and today he should seek reconciliation,he’s blasted everone and everything about MMD,what has changed now from the last statement he made…are we ever going to have principled politicians..i reckon he’s realised that he was not going to stand a chance at the convention, hence the change of heart

  3. In every family there is always one child that’s a “chintomfwa.” When such a child comes back to his senses and seeks reunion with the family should it be welcomed?

  4. I think Mr. Mpombo is acting maturely though it seems a bit late, it is never too late Boss. I would advise the big man to take up the step towards reconciliation and not to ask and wait for others to come to him. He started it so he should be the first to go back and seek audience with his friends.

Good day and God Bless you.

    Well put!
Pride in Zambian politicians from all sectors will be their downfall. Some want reconciliation before they have acknowledged their role and others proudly reject any such gestures. The word SORRY has only been heard ONCE and that by the President on the fuel shortage! Otherwise 11 million opinions and ALL are right! No wonder China is a dictatorship!

  6. Anyone that asks for forgiviness, you should be ready to listen and forgive we all make mistakes.Mr. Mpombo this is the right time to do never to late

  7. So much on Mpombo and how about another suggestion since there have been so much talk on RB and Sata/HH. How about trying the British way where these Presidential aspirants are subjected to a live Television debate to enable the public judge prior to elections? I feel it will do well for us also as Zedians.

  8. Mpombo, reconciliation is neccessary. However, you are dealing with the wrong chaps. I guarantee you that they will ask you to apologise first. Walilanda sana mudala. It will be a field day for RB. Dont lose faith in the pact. Who ever came to you in the night is just cheating you. You are a force to rekon with. Wilatina!

  9. Well Mpombo must bear in mind that reconciliation within the MMD is never smooth, remember Namakando’s reconciliation with Rupiah, Kaande doesn’t seem to accept it.

  10. Mulekeni Mpombo na bwela. He must have heard ishilu pa Voice of America, and weighed his options ati Cobra (in Bemba Ngoshe) can sting you in the night! All of you against reconciliation, mulenyafye amasushi ya chilemba (beans) na mani (eggs) aya fuma ku kanwa kaba MCS!

  11. Why has MMD taken so long to kick out this man?Is it because his own constituency has summoned him to explain his continued attacks on the MMD leadership,RB in particular? An how are his MBA studies going on?

  12. How embarrasing can this be Mr Mpombo, and how about doing it together with Mr Magande. Both of you chaps have made major political miscalculations and you are certainly done. The best mpombo/magande can do is to join the pact, coming back after eating humble pie will only count as cowardice.

  13. Mpombo has u-turned, well its no surprise, it only makes sense that he does, since his demands for a convention have been met. Therefore to continue on a rebel course would not make sense. I know this seems like a loss for the pact supporters, who had hoped his defection will allow for a by-election, but this is an opportunity, for a good lesson for the pact, and a clear illustration of the nature of our politicicians that we keep recycling and receiving for the sake of numbers. Sometimes we should learn to fully scrutinise our leaders.

  14. Mpombo and Magande only voiced their disapproval of governance and not wanting to hold a convention. There is nothing wrong doing so ,and it is just that we have immature politicians in the name of Mulongoti,Shikapwasha,,Kaande who are not tolerant of dissenting views.Contrary views should be encouraged ,it encourages intr-democracy

  15. I think Mr. Mpombo must have connived with other chaps in MMD thinking that there would be mass exodus from MMD. This failed to happen even when he opened his mouth loud – those that had promised him failed to follow suit (this has happened in Zambia before). Having assessed that the Pact is a mess, he has no choice. For now he seems still too proud to apologize. I think the mood in the country seems to be slowly shifting back towards MMD. If this continues, by 2011 the majority will see no sense in changing command. Just wait and see the tone of the post when they realize that they are paddling a sinking boat.

  16. To all patriotic and mature Zambians I say “ego and incorrigible hatred have no mileage or future in life”. Dialogue in skilled conflict management or dispute resolutions is a practical tool in winning diplomatic statesmanship. We may live to see some dynamic interplay in the day to day Democratic Party politics, but they are no signs of fragility. In this vein I implore interested parties in public office and indeed all focused activists to have eternal vigilance.Stop preying on tribes as cabals because your chiefs will collectively reject you and instead, seek a strategic audience with a statesman than a rumbling egoistic thug with a baseless sense of self entitlement in public office portfolios.People know that life is all about the now and not yesterday.Leadership material is…

  17. All I can say is, who different with Mpombo anyway that should come forward and reconcile with him other than him apologizing to the MMD he has been insulting 24/7 for the last 6 months now? I thought he just woke from his left hand side following a bad night and uninhibitedly launched insults and Armageddon predictive crusades against MMD a party he joined in 2001 from UPND after UNIP.

  18. RB is a not a god to be spotless but a statesman with a very big heart for citizens. He never responds to reactionary immature voices and never holds grudges. He is a head of state for everyone.MMD is bigger than any individuals. It is the only national democratic people’s party of choice.

  19. Sata’s toilet acrobatics on Voice of America left a very sour taste in my mouth. One honestly does not need to be a psychiatrist to see that something is clearly ammiss in Sata’s reasoning, his mental faculties seem incapable of any sustained length of traction. Going back to the days of Northern Rhodesia when he was still in the Northern Rhodesia Rifles, he was discharged from the force because of a mental breakdown (please ask Museba the former Commissioner of Police). Since then, he has never been the same, the man is half mad and on VOA last week, he was undoubtedly three-quarters mad! The trick seems to mention China to him, the degree of “masalamusi” in his skull sky rockets like a volcanic eruption!

  20. Veteran, this is what you said about Kanitundila and quote: “He never responds to reactionary immature voices and never holds grudges”. You must be blind in the most extreme or you are just plain dumb! Who said (1) Onani onani vimasilu!” (2) “Ama politics akunya” (3) “Every time I think of Sata, I think of Satan” (4) “I refused to appeal against Chiluba”? On holding grudges, you must be the only stranger in the babylonia of Zambia now aware that Kolwe the Baptist is now residing in a cage in Mundawanga while Magande, Nkhole, Malila etc are all now in the cold for being on the wrong side of this Bwezani buffoneering statesman of yours. For a veteran, your idea of a stateman sucks and I doubt you have ever heard of nameS like Mandela or KK.

  21. Mpombo must pay for his sins. No one differed with him, instead he is the one who was disparaging the MMD by playing in the hands of the party’s enemies like the opposition and the gutter press. Problem in Zambia is that when someone makes headlines in a biased tabloid he begins to imagine that he is very popular forgetting that the jaundiced journalism practised by some media house is meant to sow seeds of discontent in the nation for their own self-preservation. Just apologise unreservedly before we shave your beards with a hot knife.

  22. Fellow Zambians ,Trible Politics won’t help us,Come 2011 let’s vote on Merit, MMD should just go,too much of anything is bad,MMD has overstayed and have run out of Ideas and leaders. Let’s try others also.Malawian President has reduced abroad trips to reduce expenditure but for our Politicians right now they are cerebleting at Parliament wasting our Money and the financial Clunch is for the poor Zambians. What have they done in 2009 to cerebrate .Useles Politicians.

  23. Mpombo has just eaten humble pie. He thought he was all that politically, became bedfellows with opposition and his image builders, the gutter Press. Having realised his folly, he wants to talk about reconciliation. Yes, reconciliation is fine but he must start by apologising to MMD. I don’t think the MMD can be that heartless and never forgive him, after all he wants to be the proverbial prodigal child. if he is really serious, he must humble himself before his Party. I don’t know what the opposition and the gutter Press will feel…

  24. I WONDER WHY BLOGGERS ARE BLINDLY CONDEMNING MPOMBO – THERE WAS NO CONVENTION IN MMD, BUT NOW THERE IS GOING TO BE CONVENTION.

WHAT OR WHO MADE ALL THAT TO HAPPEN???

THE UTTERANCES FROM THE LIKES OF MPOMBO SCARED THE HAIL OUT OF MIKE & GEORGE HENCE MMD IS BECOMING DEMOCRATIC NOW.

    CAN’T YOU PEOPLE SEE THIS???

  25. Veteran is really useless and has no brains the quality of his debate and writing is that of a grade 3. By the way he gets paid tax payer’s money so he can sit at the embassy on Mass ave what a way of mis using public funds

  26. I feel the political scenario is nauseating to say the least. the present calibre of politicians do not inspire. To make matters worse, we hear Madyenkuku and Mushala have crossed over to PF. I bet if the entire MMD cabinet was to resign and join PF, they would be welcomed. Gentlemen, can’t you see that the zambian people have been taken and continue to be taken for a ride by this politicians. They are the same people who have been around since 1964, 1991 todate jumping from one party to another. When will this end? they have nothing to offer. Fellow bloggers, can’t we have a go at this, for a change?

Listen number 37, the MMD has never skipped any convention. And at the right time there will be a convention. Ask Mr. Mpombo ,when the MMD missed one convention? MMD has always been the champion of democracy and thts what it is.

God bless you and Merry Christmas

  29. May I advice Mr Mpombo that he is loosing credibility by his careless talk. You have talked too much and Iam sure no one takes you serious. Learn to use wisdom and we do not need your outbursts which aim at destruction. We need development in Zambia than insults on leaders. Ba Mpombo kwateniko umuchinshi namano.
