The Labour Movement says President, Rupiah Banda, has performed exceptionally well in managing the country’s economy.

The Zambia Congress of Trade Unions says President Banda and his cabinet have managed to record economic growth despite the negative effects of the global economic crisis.

ZCTU secretary general, Roy Mwaba, says the government has put in place measures that have contributed to economic growth.

Mr. Mwaba has meanwhile urged politicians, the civil society, the labour movement and government leaders to embrace social dialogue in addressing challenges facing the country.

He said the culture of exchanging insults and use of vulgar language should be discouraged by all stakeholders.

  1. It is not surprising to hear the president commending his government. What’s surprising is that the Unionists are now also congratulating RB when they are normally known for their resistance and critical stance… I would rather hear the economists point of view.

  2. I would like to hear the views of Hikaumba!
This is really surprising coming from ZCTU!
I thought they still had issues with the government
Anyway, zed of nowadays is interesting. You never know why who is saying what, is saying what they are saying.

  3. Zambians are suffering. why the cheating?? Kusapota fye nhow??? Its sad how corporate zed is trying ever so hard to cover the suffering of millions under a few carpets. Its obvious what that means….. Impossible!!! Zambian institutions of represention of masses should learn to accept failure and be open to critisism for better delivery. Iyi bayitaya!!. This stance by ZCTU creates a negative pic to its loyal members not by choice but by virtue of employment.

  4. It seems economic indicators are positive – te kusapotafye. However, it is the responsibility of everyone to ensure that we translate positive economic indicators into money in the pockets of the common man. How do we do this is the question we should be debating. The Govt. should now concentrate on improving the social infrastructure – hospitals, schools, roads and other job creating projects. The creation of jobs is what will put money in the pockets of the common man.

  5. Numbers don’t lie. Thanks ZCTU for being progressive and atune to the facts. Looks like most people are still stuck in the past when things were really bad. Learn to acknowledge when facts change and facts are that Zambia is making progress. An any economists , in fact Zambia did not even go into recession technically speaking. Kudo to the MMD and RB

  6. looks like any good news for the nation is not good news for opposition. it is evident that the opposition would like to capitalise on any slip-ups or negative occurence to champion the so called ‘need for change’. what people should acknowledge is that change starts at the personal level. everybody needs to work hard at their own levels. the opposition are decieving the masses that when change comes everything will be smooth sailing. people wake – up..

  7. UN says will continue supporting govt

The United Nations (UN) has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the Zambian government in its efforts to implement developmental projects.

UN Resident Coordinator, Macleaod Nyirongo says the Zambian government has set a clear vision to develop the country and that donors are ready to help implement the vision.

Mr. Nyirongo notes that because of good government policies on development, donors have found it easy to support the various development projects in the country.

Mr. Nyirongo said this on Tuesday when he met women in development in Kabompo district in North Western Province.

He said donors are ready to complement government’s effort in uplifting the living standards of its people.

  8. He commended the women groups in the district for putting into good use the money government and its cooperating partners were giving them for development projects.

Mr. Nyirongo further encouraged the women to continue exhibiting hard work to develop the nation and the district adding that true development will only come from the people themselves not the donors.

And Gender and Women in Development Minister, Sara Sayifwanda has thanked the UN for its support aimed at uplifting the standards of living of the Zambian people especially Women.

Ms. Sayifwanda said government has taken keen interest in the affairs as exemplified by allocating a separate budget for the Ministry.

She also challenged women in the country to be aggressive in development by being equal partners with…
