Friday Zambia CAN 2010 Update

Share

It is looking very likely that Zambia will only play one official international friendly before heading to the Africa Cup finals in Angola.
This is after two proposed friendly matches both failed to materialize.

The friendly against Malawi set for this Sunday, January 3 fell through after both Faz and the Football Association of Malawi failed to agree on a venue.

The replacement friendly against Benin proposed for the same date also didn’t happen after the West African team decided instead to camp in Togo and not South Africa.

This development has left Zambia with just one confirmed friendly against 2010 World Cup finalists South Korea that will be played on January 9 in Johannesburg.

Zambia has played one friendly since arriving in South Africa on December 26 against Mozambique on December 28 that Herve Renard’s side won 1-0.

Team manager Solly Pandor said from Johannesburg today that the bench will know by the start of next week if a training match against a local club can be organized even though the South African league is on recess.

Meanwhile, Isaac Chansa will not be returning to Helsingborgs this season after not renewing his deal with the Swedish club.

Kickoff.com reports that Chansa is looking at a possible return to the South Africa league.

  1. Ya,ya,ya,ya, yes. hmmm,ye,ye,ye, ok. One game before the start of the competition? Anyway that’s what you expect if you have a bunch of incompetent characters at the top of football administration. I always laugh when I hear fans expressing optimism about this team as if football was alottery where you put 1 ngwee and expect to walk away with K1billion.
We are just going there as tourists to assess the progress Angola has made since the end of civil war, and not to Win any single game.

  2. LT the game against Benin was never on the cards. The Malawi game was the one which set. If we play South Korea next Sat that means we would have played two friendly games before CAN and not one as you seem to suggest.

  3. I also urge the delegates who will accompany the team to find out from the Angolans about what they did to put up the infrastructure they now have. Probably we can learn a thing or two from them.
We appear to be good at talking but poor when it comes to action.

  4. When are we going to get results oriented chaps in FAZ instead of this bunch of jockers ho cant deliver. Ifintu you must work pamoneka ati apa nababomba dont they have personal pride to make sure that their names are not associated with poor delivery. That pride goes beyond money and perks. Kalu and his group seem to be interested only in money no pride whatsoever!

  5. I think Chansa has lost it, Why are our players aiming so low Sweden to South Africa am not for this, infact he should have just worked hard there and who knows he might have gotten a deal with a good and would have played for UEFA.

  6. I think the 2 friendlies lined up with mozambique and south korea are enough . No point playing more than that bcoz it will just lead to fatigue .The players need to rest .Intensive crush preps in a short period will not necessarily sharpen them or bring results but instead ,the players will be tired b4 their opening game . I said b4 that even ivory coast will only play 2 games . one with tanzania and another with rwanda . So no need to stress the players . i thought kalu would know that by now having played football for so long .Surprisingly ,he is actually in the forefront trying to organise waste of time or rather too late friendly match a classic case of poor planning by this man .He should have instead advised Isaac Chansa to stay in europe to have exposure to european football .

  7. Zambia is afiling to secure friendlies.
i have JUST read that Super eagles will be playing Thanda Royal Zulu in South Africa.
Why not take this opportunity and organise a friendly with the Super eagles?
    FAZ please.

  8. @3 Rostondoz Did you see how embarrassed Kalu was on Soccer Africa of Super Sport? He was at a loss to explain why we have to play in a border town called CHILILABOMBWE. Not his fault though. By the way we don’t need to learn from any one least of them Angola how we can put up infrastructure. We know how to do it, but the people in power are spending all their energies campaining for the next general elections and thus neglecting sport. Ask your self how the now destroyed stadia came about in this country- from Livingstone to Kasama, from Chipata to Solwezi, not to mention the mine t/ships and Ndola’s dag. Its only political will that is missing.

  9. FAZ need to ship up or ship out,two international friendlies b4 AFCON is not bad though i feel 3 would have been beta to help the coaches see where more sharpening wsa required.

  10. Faz is not serious in terms of pereparations. How do you start serious preparations 2 weeks before the tournament. Secondly selection of players is not on merit but who is who to the adminstrators. Zambia will get the worst embarassment from this tour at CAN 2010.YOU CAN NOT REAP WHERE YOU HAVE NOT SOWED. Nevertheless i wish them the best.

  11. How do expect to get results have not played at any serious tournament before. If Zambia can fail to perform at cecafa and cosafa what more do you expect at a serious tournament like can 2010?

  12. i was very impressed the way the LIONS of Cameroon made it to the next round and i know they will win the cup
