The Dilapidated state of major roads in Kitwe and Ndola will be a thing of the past, starting this year.
This is after the Japanese government observed that the implementation of the Project for Improvement and Maintenance of Ndola and Kitwe City Roads will significantly contribute to the social and economic development of the country.
Japanese Ambassador to Zambia Hideto Mitamura made the pronouncements this afternoon when he paid a courtesy call on the provincial Minister Mr Mwansa Mbulakulima at the Provincial Administration Office.
Mr Mitamura explained that the improvement of the roads in the two towns will enhance the quality of life for the people of Zambia and strengthen the mutual trust and goodwill that exists between the people of Zambia and Japan.
And speaking earlier, Mr Mbulakulima said Copperbelt Province had embarked on a diversification programmed aimed at ensuring that mining did not remain as the only industry in the province.
He said the province had embarked on wooing more investors in the manufacturing, tourism and agriculture sectors and therefore needed a good road network.
He said investors could only be willing to invest in the country if basic facilities such as good road network, good and efficient communication systems, good security etc, were available and in good condition.
The Japanese and Zambian governments in August 2009 signed an agreement for the implementation of the grant aid project for the improvement and maintenance of Ndola and Kitwe City roads at a cost of $27million.
The project is expected to cover a stretch of 12.73 kilometers in Ndola and 11.63 kilometers in Kitwe.

This is good news indeed! Is Phoenix Contractors still operating in Zambia?
12.73 Kilometers?! Did I get that right? Hmmm, that sounds too little to make any meaningful dent in the needs of road infrastructure. Is it just me who feels that way? Anyway, better than nothing.
Mr Hideto, your country indeed has been of help to us.Although the kilometers that you will do in the respective cities appear to be inadequate, we appreciate very much. Kwena nga mwachipampanshako ama pockets yenu maybe kuti mwabako utunyampuku utushelemo nemwe!
People 12 kms off city roads is enough and we need to appreciate. besides Ndola city has no 12 km stretch….
THIS SHOULD BE CHINA OFFERING SUCH GESTURE. THEY ARE JUST TAKING AWAY COPPER, BENA?
Elo balitemwa uku panga infintu ifya ba chipi sana!!!!! Just look at the roads they have worked on.They are poorly done.I wish they could have engaged the Phoenix contractors. To me they are the best ever. These who are coming now are just but ponkers who want to make more money on redoing the same roads time and again. This is just but a sad story for Zambia.Don’t engage the chenese even if they are so cheap becoz cheap things are expensive.Always strive for quality work.
You guyz most of you are out of Zed. Go back to Zed if you cannot appreciate the current projects the Gvt is putting in place. you will see them for yourselves. Zambia is no longer at the same level of development.
Just a note to my felleow bloggers, this is not a donation. It is a LOAN wich will have to be paid back. in other words, it doesn’t help us much in anyway.
please stop re-surfacing those welenski old roads and build something more modern and durable
..its a good start. In ndola they should look at the Town-Main masala-lubuto road,Road leading to chifubu….but already thats over 12km! Anyway bravo japan…let shimizu do the job
This is Good News For Ndola. Please Work On Industrial Roads, Lubuto, Masala and Pamodzi.
THANKS
# 2 the kms should be correct.we dont do long distances in Zed.eg the distance (in kitwe) from Wusakile Round about to Bulangililo market via kwacha township market is only 9.8 km.i did the measuremnts myself. anyway Thanks ba Japan
