Opposition United National Independence Party (UNIP) Acting Secretary General Jemima Banda has taken a swipe at his Patriotic Front (PF ) counterpart Winter Kabimba’s attacks on first President Kenneth Kaunda.
Mr Banda said in a statement received by ZANIS, today, that the first republican President Dr. Kaunda has the right to advise politicians to practice clean politics in the country.
The UNIP Acting Secretary General said Mr. Kabimba should not be excited on the matter as the former head of state’s statement was not meant to injure anyone.
“Dr. Kaunda statement was rather constructive advice to anybody who cares to listen,” Mr. Banda added.
Meanwhile, Mr. Banda challenged Mr. Kabimba to just explain how he acquired properties in Independence Avenue, one on Njoka Road and Taverns which he turned into business Centre.
“Lusaka residents would like to know who shared Council properties during his reign as Town Clerk,” he said.

We see Sata and Winter Kabimba heinously insulting Dr.Kaunda over his wise and free counsel to George Mpombo one nihilist subversively insulting the institution of the Zambian Presidency. Whatever the mystery connection these two insulting pieces have, it’s odd to read them vilifying KK over his call for One Zambia one nation. Further they fault his dynamic personal political solidarity with political values of candidates since retirement from politics. Presidential retirement does not imply forfeiture of one’s civic and moral duties.
This is why Reagan died in solidarity with the GOP while Jimmy Carter and Bill Clinton openly make endorsements and join the campaign trail for their choices. As long as there is no quest to enter the political arena as candidates, it’s democratic and constitutional for former Presidents to lump up the criticism in the political arena.
In the same vein KK has the moral duty to rebuke and counsel nihilists behavior only condoned by Sata and Kabimba. We all know that since his retirement, KK has never taken political party membership of any other than retaining his UNIP one unless one can prove us wrong. He remains a UNIP card # 1 holder while the likes of Sata have lived mutating in membership from the Lenshina sect Movement, UPP, UNIP, MMD, PF and now UPND-PF cum PACT. Unless the two PF chaps are hurt with KK’s push for sanity, dignity and nationalism against their tribe based micro-nationalism, KK remains unparallel statesman with moral mantle to disdain nihilism.
Having enormous experience from the liberation era and having induced the birth of Democracy in Zambia, yes Dr. Kaunda is definately vested with the right to advise politicians on clean governance. Others cannot even distinguish an autocrat from a democrat.

No doubt the illusion that they can brazenly do so without political cost in the national constituency is a fallacy of failed PF leadership.

For those people who think the Weekly Post devotes too many of its column inches to reporting on the misdeeds of ministers, politicians, prominent citizens and other so-called “leaders”, the venom of the notorious snake Michael “King Cobra” Sata at the International Airport last week should surely show that our reporting is justified.
Suddenly there are Bandas everywhere. Ok lets set the record straight here. The issue is not about clean politics and MMD and this Veteran just want to side step the issue. That is not the Issue in PF. The issue here is about what Masheke raised. Since when did KK become an MMD cadre to start commenting on MMD internal affairs. Would it not be wise to stay out of such particularly if his advise was not sought.
Again Kabimba’s plundering issues raised by #1 is another way to side step issues. As Veteran has written before, if you have evidence take Kabimba to court or just shut up!!!
Men like Sata who are appointed to high office are quick to call themselves leaders; they quickly justify their use of expensive motor vehicles, their need for expensive foreign travel(Sata travelled first class on British Airways at the expense of the Zambian taxpayer) and the right to be called “Honourable”.They quickly justify becoming bullies.The behaviour of Sata last week, first reported by the Sunday Times of Zambia (whose editors were unfortunately too shy to reveal the name of this dangerous and foolish minister), merely confirms yet again what the Weekly Post has said about Sata all along.
However, the difference with Sata is that he is a Cabinet minister, a “leader” holding one of the topmost posts in the country, and he should not behave like a mad man and expect to get away with it – as he so often has.A leader means just that: a person who leads others.
In the case of a Zambian cabinet minister he or she is a leader of the citizens of Zambia.Such a person must be an inspiration, politically, morally, intellectually.In short, they should set an example for others.How would the Zambian government have reacted if Sata’s behaviour had been that of a white South African Cabinet minister who had shouted abuse at black Zambians.Stan Kristafor, we were told by the president, was fired for hurling racist comments.Will Sata also be fired for hurling racist comments at Nikki Roberts, a coloured British Airways official based in Lusaka.
You do not have time to waste on petty arguments that center around the false “party wars”. True patriotism is to have thoughts that do not derive from the most famous political puppet.
The Weekly Post, “the eyes and ears of the people,” to use Chiluba’s own words – has called for Sata’s removal from the Cabinet long ago, not out of malice, but because we don’t believe this man’s disgraceful conduct has any place in the new, democratic political culture for which the people of this country so craved.
If “Cobra” Sata is so precious that the president cannot bring himself to sack him, at least he could do us a favour and cage this dangerous serpent so that any further harm and embarrassment can be avoided.
If the president doesn’t act, sooner or later people may decide to deal with “King Cobra” in the same fashion as they deal with ordinary snakes that slither into their backyards.The Weekly Post saw through Mr Sata as far back as 16 years ago.
Were they wrong? Do Mr Sata’s attacks on Dr Kaunda and President Banda surprise anyone?

Well,i have observed some good comments especially about Clinton,Reagan etc so all i can say is that people should not find it strange when KK is attacked by politicians.KK is a former politician and irrespective of what he has done for the nation or his retirement,he’s entitled to endorse or castigate whoever he wants but he must be ready to face the consequences of doing that & that includes political mud thrown at him directly or indirectly,that’s just the way it is in politics!
Yes, advice is welcome even if it comes out of a madman, empty tin, the mentally challenged etc and it all depends on the user of such advice to sieve out the chuff.

The Editorial team at the Post can’t believe that the beasts they and President Mwanawasa intended on Chiluba are now feasting on their sons – Mutembo and Chona. If Chona paid suppliers without tender procedures, he must be tried and sent to jail.
Kaunda has every right to comment on our politics but it bothers me when his comments smells of him being mindful of losing his pension! Could he comment on the sale of Zamtel in the same breath? Kabimba maybe the wrong person to point fingers at Kaunda but his point is still valid, though I think he might have gone too far with his castigation.
Very unfortunate that our old man has found himself in this situation. We should also understand that probably the old man just got carried away by the moment. But for sure he made a mistake. Sadly he might be judged by the words he used as his legacy was being rebuilt and scrutinized. What I find fascinating is how people like Veteran fail to condemn but praise praise KK even when he has shown who he is. KK has every right to advise however, he should not take sides or use bad language. KK told Mpombo to stop barking at RB. To the best of my knowledge, only dogs bark. By inference, if someone is told stop barking it means that person is being equated to a dog. Therefore if KK referred to Mpombo as barking at RB, he was actually equating Mpombo to a dog – the only living creature that barks! To me, that’s a pretty nasty insult I wouldn’t take lying down. So Mpombo’s reaction was quite natural because he felt insulted by the old man. Contrary to what misguided Jemima Banda is saying KK was not advising Mpombo; he was insulting him. Period.

Follow educated Zambians, don’t get worked about KK’s use of the word “Bark” to describe Mpombo’s rantings in the press. If you read the dictionary, the word “bark” does not only refer to the sound made by a dog, but may also be used to describe someone that “speaks forcefully in an unfriendly tone”. And for those of you that read KK’s advice to Mpombo, this is what he was talking about!
Other synonyms of the same word may include: Harangue, rant, lecture, rant, yap., etc…

In as much as we appreciate that KK has every right to advise politicians to practice clean politics he does not have the right to insult people, in my own understanding telling a person that he has been barking like anything amounts to insult…and i dont know why the issue of Winter’s propety has been mentioned…. well, i dont if its only me, i think Zambian politicians (from the so-called father of the nation to a ward chairman) are very petty.
