MMD national secretary Katele Kalumba has described former Defence minister George Mpombo as a non-issue whom the party should not waste time debating on and directed all party leaders to leave the matter to the secretariat.
“Let other leaders leave the issue of Mr Mpombo to me as national secretary, I will deal with him at an appropriate time,” Dr Kalumba said in an interview in Lusaka yesterday.
He said the Kafulafuta MMD Member of Parliament (MP) had issues, which he was supposed to explain to the country, and should not have been allowed to even start verbal attacks on leaders like President Rupiah Banda.
Dr Kalumba, who is MMD Chiengi Member of Parliament, said Mr Mpombo was an MMD national executive committee (NEC) member apart from being a cabinet minister but had not fully told the country why he resigned from both positions and yet had continued talking about party matters.[quote]
He said it was wrong for any MMD official to talk about what the party would do to people like Mr Mpombo at the national convention saying it was such talk which was building Mr Mpombo into a champion when he was not and directed all party functionaries to stop talking about the former minister.
On former Finance and National Planning minister, Ng’andu Magande Dr Kalumba said as national secretary, he had no problem with him.
“I have no problem with Mr Magande. He has not done anything wrong. We should not create a crisis out of nothing,” he said.

katele you are doing a good job but careful with VJ, he would like to pull a quick one at the Convention out of his conviction that position of national secretary has always been his.
I think Katele is also positioning himself I feel so bad for Rupia because he will be the first Zambia president to lose a political party election. And this is because he surrounds himself with the yes Bwana type of people. He has not done much for the party that made it possible for him to president of Zambia and he has also failed all the Zambian people. He is a failure
“Let these critics give me one example, from the time Zambia got its independence, who has defeated an incumbent at a convention, and especially by people whose standing in the party is not good,” Mr Mulongoti said.

Katele has a soft spot for Mpombo,Magande and some other mmd blue eyed boys,RB is going to have a fight on his hands,either katele is eyeing the top post himself or they have identifed someone to take on RB at the convention.How can Katele say that Magande has done nothing wrong if he can come in public and point a finger at RB as reported in the post to say that he and Mulongoti are supporting and behind the blocking of some people at the convention,to me thats gross indiscipline of the highest order,clearly there are two camps here,and i can only see RB falling,coz he’s up against an evil force bent on destroying him and his minions like mulongoti

Yes CAGE Mulongoti these mafias are quick to arrest a PF MP in Kitwe but they fail to arrest this guy. At least we have evidence that Mulongot is promoting or advocating violence in the country which is treasonable offense.

I think Katele’s illness has humbled him somewhat. He seems to be the only one left in MMD who is acting mature and grown up. Others are behaving like hooligans and thugs—-talking about beating up people and chopping off their legs!? What is this? Some alien planet we are living on?
Mulongoti & RB, you are bringing shame upon yourselves and the MMD party that ushered in democracy in Zambia. If you are allergic to democracy, you shouldn’t have left UNIP. Ba Katele, Ba Katele! He must have had a vision in India! Now that you have cleared the air on Mpombo, i propse you sit down with RB and advise him on how to run the nation. Tell him to:
Stop globtrotting
Stop removing his shirt and exposing his tummy at ceremonies
Stop tribal appointments
Prepare a handover speech at the convention, and most importantly
Begin making sure State House is clean so that the in coming Pact President can move in!

Mulongoti is the thug RB should get rid off. Katele Mfwiti Kalumba is right but what is his view on the Presidency? Don’t forget he was Finance minister and is in Court when Chiluba has been acquitted, do you think he is happy? Mulongoti is the thug RB would do well to get rid off sooner than later and Mulongoti will attract no sympathy from anyone(not even the opposition). Mulongoti has no constituency and is of no value to any political party.
