Don’t misinform the public, NCC urges media organisations

Share

Mrs Zaloumis

The National Constitution Conference (NCC), has urged media organization to desist from reporting on articles or clauses that have not yet been adopted or concluded by the NCC.

NCC Spokesperson Mwangala Zaloumis says reporting on such matters has a telling effect on the public as this compels them to start debating on issues that have not yet been adopted.

Ms. Zaloumis was reacting to an editorial report, carried by Yatsani Radio last week suggesting that the NCC secretariat had written to the station advising them to get clearance from NCC before broadcasting any stories from the Conference.

Ms Zaloumis said in an interview with ZANIS in Lusaka today that accurate and correct information when reporting about the proceedings of NCC is cardinal because it gives a fair and balanced discussion to the public.

She said reporters must develop a system of getting in touch with her office for correct information and any other clarification where they do not understand rather than write from their own imaginations to avoid misrepresentation of facts.

Ms Zaloumis advised journalists not to report about things they do not understand to avoid misinforming the public.

She said despite her office having briefings with the press every day only selected media organizations from both the print and electronic attend these meetings.

Meanwhile Ms Zaloumis says NCC has no specific preference of any media organization to cover the NCC deliberations but is just concerned with certain media institutions that are in a habit of publishing false information.

  1. And what is the latest on the 50+1, voting which was scheduled for today? Or is it the reason the media is now being lambasted?

  2. What is her problem? When the press wants comments from her, she always the first one to answer, “No comment!”. Let the press work. Do your job also. Time is not with you. 2011 beckons.

  3. The public has a right to know how their money is being wasted and hence should debate without hinderance. Afterall, the NCC has to come up with a people driven constitution.
But, how come the NCC Spokesperson is speaking in tongues like Shikapwasha. We are watching you.
Can the private media keep up the spirit.

  4. We care, come what may 50+1 is ours. come rain come sunshine….. we are aware of your tricks. this time around wooooooooooo, tamwaimone

  5. Pleaase please. She has not said do not report she has simply asked for acuurate recording and has offered to provide clarifications. Lets learn to be more progressive

  6. Reporting is usually accurate. They dispute what they earlier said half the time these chaps! Worse still, they contradict each other!

  7. Looking at the squabbles abound, it looks like a “constitution to stand the test of time” will not be the out come of the NCC. Therefore, it seems we will be doing this again in the near future especially if there is a change of govt. what a waste of time and resources, but a financial gain for those involved!

  8. A lot of money was spent on mvunga, Mwanakatwe and Mungomba commissions to come up with a people’s driven constitution and a lot of money is still being spent on NCC. All these commissions recommended 50+1, so what is the problem? Dont be so blind learned commissioners. Some people like PF felt nothing will come out of this NCC because of selfishness and really nothing will come out of this if 50+1 is disregarded. Iyo constitution will be thrown out when the govt changes, ANOTHER WASTE OF TAX PAYERS’ MONEY. Africa twasebana, ati calo camfimfi, dark continent

  9. The 50+ 1 clause is a recipe for anarchy in a highly charged tribalistic society. You would be fueling tribalistic marriages of convenience hostile to a unitary state of enduring peace. It would be imposing a Government of two rejects on the people as long as they can enter into a marriage of convenience. Reject+Reject=Rejected Government through compromise. The winner takes it all is a guarantee for national stability besides not being a Grand financial burden on the tax payers. Personally I will never support 50+ 1 clause period because I understand the decree of tribalism in the country.

  10. My friend stay in denial, but truth be told that fascism is increasing among National-Anarchists-While they may seem like isolated incidents of quirky subterfuge, these quasi anarchists are thoughtlessly compromised without national interest. They are a legion of fascism that represents a anarchism denied by strategy only.

Actually in the last 1 week i have been conversing on the phone with many participants in the NCC who share with wisdom and national interest on this pro-anarchist clause.

  11. Only a du,ll and st.upidy person like vetran senior citizen can say no to 50+1. This is because his stake is growing fat at the expense of poor Zambians. He wants to be in the USA for ever while doing nothing but only blogging rubbish for RB nyamasoya. Please NCC guys give Zambians their 50+1 close.

  12. BRAVO ALL SELFLESS ZAMBIAN PATRIOTS!
