Residents of Kapoto shanty compound where cholera has broken out in Kitwe have shocked the district administration after they refused to be drinking treated water allegedly for fear of becoming impotent.
ZANIS Kitwe reports that Kitwe District Commissioner Macdonald Mtine confirmed that the community in Kapoto compound was not taking free treated water which the Nkana Water and Sewerage Company was providing.
This is despite the outbreak of cholera in the area.
Mr. Mtine, who is also Kitwe District Epidemic Preparedness Committee chairman, said seven people from Kapoto have already been treated for cholera but surprisingly, the rest of the people in the area have continued to drink water from shallow wells located near pit latrines.
He said the people of the damp Kapoto compound should start using treated water from the Nkana Water Kiosks to enable health authorities to contain the cholera situation.
Mr. Mtine expressed worry at the traditional myth circulating in Kapota compound that treated water had certain particles that would make them impotent once they took it.
He said the continuous use of water from shallow wells located near pit latrines was dangerous and exposing the community to more water borne diseases.
He has since appealed to the community not to compromise their health and instead drink treated water.

please sensitize these people otherwise they will die like pigs. nkana water should carry out a sensitization program to help these people .
Sobongo, not even teaching them will help, let them stick to the angel they know….our motherland..

😮 Kwena! Only pa Zed. Koma skulu ni ya bwino. Illiteracy is death itself!!
Come on LT! This is shoddy reporting. This is what happens when you just copy and paste other people’s work. There is no proof that these people have refused to drink treated water and yet you go ahead to spread the unfounded story! Kapoto is in Kitwe, an urban area and a lot of the boys and girls that sale water in the streets of Kitwe come from this area! Who in this era is not privy to the good that comes with drinking treated water? All blame should go to Mtine and the govt. for not sensitizing people and not making the campaign against cholera a priority! Why do we always wait for the problem to surface before we take action? The problem is cholera and not the people of Kapoto!!!!
yeah, they need to be educated about the benefits of using treated water.but i wonder if they can heed to the advice. please Kapoto residents help yourselves.~X(
Hell knows what these people are upto. GOD help us ~~o)

The story is incomplete coz non of the Kapoto resident was interviewed regarding this issue. Pure Clap!!
Awemba Awemba kukonda sex. Sibafuna kumwa madzi chifukwa cha sex. Kuputsa.
Awemba kukonda sex.
Reaping what was sowed in the past- lack of emphasis on education. Sooner than later govt should insist on educating the country well from infancy. It is not too late for citizens that already missed out; TV & Radio campaigns and aggressive community-based education/awareness programs
#18 Ascender.. You are right.. Really tell you the extent to which our Education and Social welfare has degraded. 1964, when Zambia had only 100 people with university education, KK drove an ambitious educational and social plan we’ve all benefited from as we discuss.. It seems we forgot the reason why we existed after 1996 elections and are now reaping rewards of our shortsightedness. To imagine this happening in the 2nd largest city in Zambia , you then wonder whats going on in far flung, rural areas with no schools or health facilities at all.. breaks your heart.
bantu pa zed ba konda ka nyaps maningi. Anyway am also representing ba zed kuno hehehe
Don’t blame them. It’s a new thing to see water coming from the taps coz they always drink from these wells. They are just suspitious why suddenly they are told no, this water has cholera. Ba MMD they have failled us. They used to tell us at Kaunda Cholera. Is this Kaunda era???????? God help us!
All those laughing at the “ignorance” of these people will be amazed to find out that they may actually be right. Up to now, scientists have failed to guarantee 100% healthy treatment of drinking water. It is always good to be cautious of the chemicals you take alongside drinking water inside your body.
As I write, there are heated debates going on here because it has recently been discovered that a high content of Chloride in drinking water is extremely harmful to the brain cells. Explaining the high number of Aging Dementia (Alzheimer) patients in Europe. Go and research on the risks of drinking treated water and then come back again. It is very easy to disregard the simple minds, that’s why the Bible says “the rich is wise in his own conceit but the fool searcheth him out…”
Their fears are not unfounded and neither are they out of ignorance. In England the there was a research done about fish that changed sex in rivers as a result of chemicals. However, if Nkana Water had done enough research, they could use this same arguement to get people to drinking treated water. Water from the Rivers and Wells is prone to contamination especially that Kapoto is just near the Sewerage Treatment Plant whose eflluent is discharged into Kafue River.
Worried pa fyanso ! It is amazing what lack of sku could lead pipo to do.
Mwa ona manje ufontini mu Zambia?impotent!!!!
