UPND-PF pact to be officially launched in April

Share

The opposition United Party for National Development and Patriotic Front (UPND/PF) pact, which was created in June last year, will be officially launched between March and April this year.

UPND spokesperson Charles Kakoma said nine committees have been formed to come up with guidelines and policies for the pact, which will be presented in two weeks time before it is launch.

Mr. Kakoma was speaking at a joint press briefing at the UPND secretariat in Lusaka today.

Mr. Kakoma said the committees that the pact has formed include mobilization, publicity and elections committees among others.

He stated that the formation of the pact between the two parties will make Zambian people to be focused as they will continue upholding the peace that the country has enjoyed since Independence.

Mr. Kakoma said the pact will field a presidential candidate which the Zambian people want, adding that their wishes will be respected at the right time.

And speaking at the same occasion, UPND Mazabuka Central Member of Parliament (MP) Gary Nkombo dismissed allegations that UPND has lost popularity in Southern Province saying the party recently scooped all the local government by-elections including those which were previously held by the ruling party.[quote]

He was reacting to chief Mwanachingwala’s remarks that the UPND was misled by another chief in Southern Province into forming a political pact with PF.

Meanwhile, PF Secretary General Wynter Kabimba said the pact was not worried about the issue of which candidate between Michael Sata and Hakainde Hichilema should contest the presidency in the general elections next year.

Mr. Kabimba accused the MMD of being jittery by involving themselves in the affairs of the Pact.

He disclosed that when the Pact was formed the MMD predicted that it would be a failure adding that it is now stronger than they expected.

  1. We want to know who shall lead this pact. Will chiefs from each stronghold area accept the chosen one?
    Lets wait and see oooo!

  2. Good Evening

April is just around the corner. We are anxiously waiting to see and hear the visionary leaders as they present the guidelines and policies that can finally deliver what MMD has failed to deliver for the people of Zambia.

  3. Its easier to sell HH to the PF supporters than it is to sell Sata to the UPND supporters……I think! Reason: Sata has more things against him that HH has…..I think!

  4. Evidence abounds that Sata was a UNIP/ MMD terrorist. So, UPND, kiss your freedom good-bye. Garbage in, garbage out. We can’t go back to MMD terrorism. Gimme something else…something that doesn’t stink.

  5. #10 walai ntwenu…

I can also be very laid back and lively depending on the topic at hand…

…or after taking a few German Lagers <:-p

  6. #11 thats very true. And thats how accepting PF are. And while its so easy to sell HH to PF members, its also so eay for HH to lose the presidential elections while it is so easy for Sata to scoop the votes so easily. This is due to Sata’s overwhelming popularity and his political and practical track record. People still remember how hospitals started being equipped with drugs and other facilities when Sata became minister of health and how some nurses and doctors started coming back to Zambia from abroad. They also still remember how local governments started functioning when he became minister of local government. Therefore, on the national level Sata is very sellable.

  7. So, you voters there be careful how you play your presidential cards. Otherwise, Zambians will slide back into Rupiah Banda’s palms. Mind you this time round he will squeeze even the little drop of blood remaining. So , look at the whole situation on a broader perspective. Win first and start sorting out those ‘being young and degree’ issues after winning the general and presidential elections. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED.

  8. VIVA PACT. I really appreciate the point Sata and HH are showing regarding Plot 1. None of them seem to be number 1 contender. This is confidencial information. MMD looks to be confused by this. Chief Mwanachingwala’s remarks are old politics and tactics. Good Luck

  9. #17 hoodtypechick – The question of who will be leading the pact is not vital as for now. It will be answered in the dying minutes. We the members know exactly but it will not be public. We want to diverty the focus of MMD and other people such as Chiluba.

  10. #19 In the dying minutes?? Some of us have been waiting for this pact to come through for a long time now. Sick and tired of MMD and the way they have sucked the country dry….I guess if I have waited this long I will have to wait a little longer.

  11. Until a presidential candidate is identified, all the launching you can do will not achieve anything. I dont know why you keep putting this very explosive issue off. AN EARLY EXPLOSION ALLOWS YOU TIME TO GATHER AND RECONCILE. LAST MINUTE EXPLOSION EITHER MEANS YOU ALL DEAD, OR YOU SCAMPER FOR SAFETY. Only to return after 2011 elections have passed. Kakoma you chaps are playing with this pact, am begining to see that may be you too have no faith in it, or you failing to accept reality that you are in second place, to the Cobra. Can we have a head please twapapata let us know, we are tired of living in darkness, we need to see what we are following.

  12. PF UPND pact has got its underwear in a twist over the Zambian economy. That is the reason why their cadres (some chiefs included) are terrified at the prospects of FTJ going to the Copper belt to reason with the masses. Mathematically the Pact does not have the numbers or an economic plan that would warrant the removal of the MMD Government. Other than renationalising sovereign assets, the Pact has no economic plan. 2011 general election is theirs to lose, that’s the reason they are losing sleep over Chiluba or anyone perceived as stealing their vote. But democracy is a competitive enterprise Sata must expect other politicians to steal his voters. FTJ spent 17 years as Chairman General of ZCTU and many of us on this blog do not qualify to even polish his shoes.

  13. My sentiments exactly #21….announcing a leader in the dying minutes may cause confusion some reason confusion….which may God forbid give MMD leverage

  14. Infact this official fimofimo is the first early sign of the end of the pact. It will lead to so much confusion as Mr Sata will want to set himself as front runner, and we all know how sarcastic he can be.’calculator boy’ will regret even conteplating to join hands with PF. But he will also ‘insult’ massively, a strategy he has adopted lately to try and impress PF cadres in their ‘language’.

  15. #21 All players have their tactics to play please let the pact play its own. Remember VJ has come back to play his own in MMD and no one is asking how he is going to play it. As for us in in the pact cannot get get comfused even if the presidential candidate is announced at the last minute. To make you understand things about Mr Sata we who know him very well he dose not mind if HH comes to power he is only mindifull if RB continues to be at plot one.Sata cannot bring comfusion in this country, only those who have stolen and lazy people like you won’t find peace when Mr.Sata asscends to plot 1. Mr. Sata loves the ppeople of Zambia very much and that is why in all ministerial posts he worked well and things changed to goodness. VIVA PACT.

  16. Some time in zambia people confusses me to fail and see who is a presidential for the pact…I know they have already choosen their candidate…it is just a matter of time before he is announced. After the degree clause was put,, pact did not panic because they are already covered. From this statement you know who is a presidential candidate. This is the reason they joined together in the first place, pact..!!!!!

  18. my bet is a neutral person will be chosen. im thinking that Prof Chirwa will lead the pack. Sata and HH will be the two deputy presidents.

  19. Jooste #21,
Your concerned is legit, but remember, you need a vision and operational framework to guide all the processes. I.e. how to choose the pact presidential candidate and once the presidential candidate is selected he/she shall market the agreed vision of the pact.
The announcement the guys have made is a good starting point.

  20. man, jooste # 21 i can understand your anxiety or impatience. just chill my bro its only a month in between. These guys need to consult and come up with some form of consensus, so give them time. I know you desperately want MMD to be removed but relax a bit. good things come to those who wait

  21. A nutral person is coming in … one that is not even well know by the MMD. One with the unpredictable firing power. Get it from me. And by the way, you will see him during the launch. He will seemingly sit in the background. He will not say aword during the launch. Wait and see!

  22. We know the seedy electoral tactics of PF UPND – use Mr Sata to hand back power to the circles of bantubotatwe. If Sata refuses or reneges on the deal signed in blood, Zambia may experience unprecedented political upheaval. Let Chiluba campaign for MMD and Rupiah Banda, after all the Post and its supporters wanted Chiluba dead. For 8 years Chiluba suffered state tyranny from the likes of Magande and Shakafuswa. Although Sata is polished and slippery, he is no match for FTJ. During the illness and eventual death of Levy Mwanawasa, the calm demeanour of Rupiah Banda and the MMD saved Zambia from a first rate political and financial Armageddon. Squabbles began when Banda refused to hand over the Presidency to Magande who claimed he was the “anointed one”. Go Chiluba Go!!!

  23. I thought ichi ch Pact chalatobeka, but,anyway-even if Mpombo is suporting it and anyone wins the convertion, then katele has said that i will be the candidate.WWWWWWWWWWWWWWWoooo:-\”:-\”:-\”:-\”:-\”:-\”:-\”

  24. Did I read the report correctly? Did they say launcing or burying the pact? The supporters of the pact are dead worried about who will be lead the pact. That is why they claim to know who it will be and that for now it is a secret. They haven’t got the faintest idea and in fact they know in their hearts that it is a non-starter.

  25. Under the new constitution, Prof Chirwa will not qualify to stand for Presidency. To qualify one must have lived in Zambia “for a continuous 10 years period”. So if he is the silent one, then they will be technically out. It will be interesting to see who will lead the pact!

  26. Breaking news

Experts have just proven that PF was registered and has been campaigning under a plagiarized constitution it lifted from UNIP illegally. Now the former ruling party UNIP is preparing to sue Mr.Sata and his PF.Professional political Scientists,Policy analysts, Technical writters and scholars have just finished the foresinsic exams and are in evidence that line upon line and precept upon precept PF illegally lifted a legally protected Document from UNIP against the copyright laws of the Republic of Zambia. The investigations were launched follows the public revelation by the republican Vice President GK yesterday. It will be very interesting to learn how Mr.Sata will belabor to plead for integrity against this evidence of intellectual property crime in his presidential fold.

    Comment.
Chiluba is NOT FIT to polish anybodies shoes.
What kind of job would you expect?
He would pay an orphan 10 ngwee and ask the donors to pay him 50,000 kwacha.:-?

  28. Senior Citizen never improved after his Kasama by election promise.
Still As SENILE as ever before by smamming ALL zambian forums with the same words he must of took 16 hours to write.
Is there any sanity in his mind that he needs to SPAM his opinion on ANY TOPIC he can find open to postings?

Lusaka Times hang your head in shame for allowing this person to continue disgracing your website for a year now.
You know there are others who do it too and you also know their I.P blocks and can filter for them.
    Good Luck

  29. The sooner the better. Last minute arrangements are not practical. I hope that unlike past ‘alliances’ this one will hold.

My friend you’re talking about a very complicated person.

    Comment.
Someone with several personalities is considered mentally challenged.
Someone with no personality is called a puppet.
    Senior Citizen is not complicated.
He just struggles to see anybody else’s point of view.
    Much like a propagandist!

  31. No: 29. It seems man your reasoning is very limited. They are alot of people who are working on this pact. There are alot of MPs. why do you think they can call chirwa to lead them. your reasoning shows how some of our fellow zambian can show their ignarance. chirwa has never stayed in zambia for the past 24 years. Read the new consitution what it says. chirwa is clever, he knows that he has no chance hence to join perfect team. Even sata has very little chance of leading this pact becuase he does not have a degree. sata knows very well, this is the reason, he caled HH to be together. By now, you should know who will lead your pact…!!!!
