I will continue respecting Former Presidents-Rupiah Banda

Presidentn Rupiah Banda

President Rupiah Banda has said he will continue to respect former presidents and other leaders in the country.
The President said this yesterday when he touched down at Mansa Airport, before departing for Chienge where he is starting a three-day tour of Luapula Province.

President Banda has said that there is no way Patriotic Front leader Michael Sata will force him to hate former president Frederick Chiluba. President Banda said that everyone in the country knows that Mr Sata used to be a close friend to Dr Chiluba, but now Mr Sata sees nothing good in the former president. He said Mr Sata hates Dr Chiluba and wants him ( President Banda) to also dislike Dr Chiluba.

However, the President said he will not hate Dr Chiluba and will continue to invite him to state functions at State House like he has been doing to Dr Kenneth Kaunda. “President Chiluba was a very close friend of Mr Sata. Everybody knows that but today Mr Sata doesn’t see any good in President Chiluba. So he wants me also to be like him, to hate President Chiluba. I shall not do that,” President Banda said.

He said as President of the country he has a duty of bringing everybody together, and will not be like those who are everyday looking for bad things they can use to attack former leaders. “Those who want to separate these leaders it is their own business. I will not be like them who everyday are looking for bad things they will use to attack these leaders,” he said.

And on PF-UPND Pact, President Rupiah Banda said the two political parties went into the arrangement because they are scared of him. He said the Pact was formed with only one thing in mind that of removing him from state house. He said as President of the MMD he does not need a political pact with another political party to defeat the PF-UPND pact because he has a pact with the Zambian people. He said the MMD was still intact and its MPs have remained united since they were elected to parliament.

President Banda observed that the situation is different in the opposition camp, with MPs in the PF deeply divided due to the leadership that does not want to listen to their intelligent advice on how the country must move forward. He said 50 percent of the PF MPs are also finding it difficult to remain and work together due to bad leadership.

“These are very intelligent people, people with integrity. But because of bad leaders that do not want to listen to their advice on how they should move forward they are now divided,” he said. On the UPND case, President Banda said the MPs solidarity in the opposition party was quickly diminishing due to unwise leadership.

Speaking earlier, Luapula province MMD chairman Chrispin Musosha said that the PF-UPND pact was going to crumble soon because it was an arrangement entered into by presidents of the two political parties without the blessing of their general membership. Mr Musosha said pact was headed for a serious split because of the confusing arising from failure by PF and UPND to consult its general membership before going into marriage.
Mr Musosha also said that the MMD was ready to take on the PF-UPND pact.

He informed President Banda that the MMD is regaining ground in the Luapula province after losing 10 parliamentary seats in the last elections. Mr Musosha, who is also deputy minister of science and technology, said this paradigm shift in the political support from the opposition to the ruling party is as a result of a number of developmental projects that the government is implementing.

  1. Welcome to Luapula Pres. RB. But please do not spend most your time there politiking. what we want to hear from u sir before u leave that place are your plans about the pedicle road, kasama luwingu road, tea eastate mushota road among other things. these are things in my view that will win u hearts of people in that region. Sir also have a look at the mansa civic centre currently under construction i urge u to order for its demolition and a new structure befiting a pronvicial centre be set up. have a nice stay there
    this is my humble appeal

  2. #1 Mwanguni wa lasa those are the issues that Banda needs to address and for sure that will gain him support. I was in Luapula about four times last year and went as far as Katota in chief chama the roads and the poverty there is sickening. The pedicle road needs to be tarred no question about it what is the point of putting up a bridge if the road is impassable waste of money.

  3. Luapula province is one part of the country which has potential for econmical development of the country if only we had serious, focused and selfless leaders who care about the developement of the entire country. Its the only province in the country with two big lakes, lake mwelu wantipa and lake bwengweulu which could be potentially developed into tourism destination and have big finishing industry.Besides if only Mansa batteries can be reopened, it could reduce rate of unemployment in the province, also there is tones of magnessium minerals laying idle in Bahati area, GRZ could find market for it and open mine in that area. Chiluba committed a huge crime by closing mansa batteries without finding a solution to replace it and failing to take care of its ex-workers.

  4. Its gona be a difficult task for RB and his MMD to regain support from people of Luapula province especially if they want to use Chiluba, because Jacob Fredrick Chiluba Kafupi Titus Mpundu negelected his own home land and he couldn’t even develop his own mother’s village, thats why opposition party enjoys upper hands in the area than ruling MMD. RB I wish you will bring politics of issue based as you visit Luapula, aimed at revamping the area into economical development instead of politics personal attacks and insults.

    For the marginalized Zambians.

  5. The people of Luapula must tell Banda that if the pedicle road is not tarred no vote for him and he must bring development to the area attacking Sata will not feed the people so is any association with past Presidents

  6. MMD does not need a political pact with another political party to defeat the PF-UPND pact because it has a pact with the Zambian people.A qoute by RB

  7. # 6 You are Forgiven for you surely don t know whay you are talking about and what is actually happening on the Ground in Zambia..The MMD has honestly gained Ground not only in Luapula but also in LSK. I watched a clip last night on Muvi Tv where the PF failures(Councillors) were chassed and blocked from inspecting the Intercity Bus station by the residents of LSK. They were told to go and attend to more pressing issues in their Coumpounds(Wards). This shows that even a common Man on the streets knows that PF has been cheating people without delivering on their promisses in LSK. The other Day it was Mumbi Phiri being chassed by her own PF(Members) Voters in Munali and she had to take refuge at Chelstone police. Imwe just clean plates, We are here on the Ground where votes are.Mukatusanga!!

  8. As the party in Government We will ensure to deliver our promises to the people of Luapula:More Schools, tare all major roads, construct more heath centres & inprove health service delivery, increase investment-increasing job creation.these are already in implementation stage.

    MMD for LIFE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  9. 😕 Ok RB in Liverpool, we need his firm word on the state of the peddicle road. transport is key to national development

  10. Please pipo, he’s just on another compaign trail. Make a lot of false promises and commission little economic “projects”, receive “PF defectors”, dish out brown envelopes/gifts to chiefs and party cadres! The man is inept and does understand the dynamics of Luapula province. You cannot understand a region if travel by Helicopter. Lets not build false hopes, have western and NW province developed since his last visit? THINK TWICE!

  11. 😮 Mwe ma bloggers bushe mwalikwata ishuko to know the qualifications of our parliament members? Abengi highest qualification ma certificates mlifimofimo, why were did they want president wa degree?

  12. If u MMD folks really mean what u say about da Pact den why is everyone of u talkin about it! All u a doin is actually show how jittery u a about our movement!

  13. PF is DEAD in most of its strong holds. The PF I knew in 2006 is no longer the one I’m seeing now!PF MPs & its Councilors have abused the revenue they have been collecting.Eg the mini bus revenue, markets, licenses, billboards adverts, land rates, certificates, approval,of drawings, the list is endless.Plus the grants from central government and donors. They have failed the local Government Can manage the central Government?????????????????????????ABASH PF

  14. # 17 you ought to be fired or banned from commenting on issues that are beyond your comprehension. The display of ignorance is amazing%-(%-(%-(%-( Everyone knows how scared Bwezi en his minions are

  15. Luapula is very dynamic and is not easy to understand as some one may think, they are the people who dont believe in hand outs a lot and who are not easy to manupulate as they know what they want and when they want it as they dont even scared nobody. So to those MMD who think they gona get it easy from there, I dont think so with the company of Chiluba who they dont even respect as RB may think and not to mention the reble MPs from PF who dont even deliver in there consititution. All what i can say is good lucky to MMD

  16. Abena Bweza have even failed to control ama floods ku Lusaka can he really have anything to with Luapula 800 kays away, twilabepwa, lets just ensure 2011 is year of deliverance for Zambia.

  17. #17 You are dead yourself. I come from the same Boma(Mwense) with FTJ but definitly, I would never associate with the man, never never. So dont think we are daft so much that if RB rescues one Congolese, we the Luapulans will start dancing. What have we gained from him as president? In that case, RB must release all prisoners who are from Luapula, not that Congolese from Kasenga, Chief Kisamamba, Katanga

  18. Iwe kachief MMD spocksman;
You a shame less lair, the council operate independent of PF. u will will be jailed. If u have same time to wast, pliz wast somewhere not on this net.

  19. An act of desperation alwayz calls for name calling, backstabing, hypocrisy, deception and all the bad vises one would think of. We thank God as civilised zambians, we know what we want and what is best for our mother Zambia. Why else would people claiming to have a common goal of saving the nation be enemies?8-|

  20. Govt says it is in a hurry to develop higher institutions of learning – by going the PRIVATE FINANCE PARTNERSHIPS!! Well is sounds very well & good. The TRUTH about them – experienced them 1st hand in UK – Yes they will build – on your own land, in this case UNZA land – but the catch is: A Long lease, say 25 years or more is signed – during which , they OWN the BUILDINGS & then RENT THEM BACK to UNZA AT COMMERCIAL RATES!!! So the build on land given to them for free, EARN from the RENTALS – By the time the lease agreement expires, the BUILDINGS will be reaching their life’s end & WILL BE LOOKING LIKE THE PRESENT BUILDINGS – WORTHLESS – just ready for DEMOLITION, & yes, the PFP will JUST BE TOO GLAD TO HAND THEM BACK TO UNZA, AFTER HAVING REAPED HUGE PROFITS FOR 25 yrs or more! “Smart…

  21. Respect begets respect. :d/
A public thief will never get respect from a well meaning society. RB if you steal with impunity from the poor- widows, orphans and the likes, ‘abash’ respect for you but if you behave and lead uprightly, we will all say KABYESI or IGWEEE or NKOSI, even when you are an Ex.
Please separate Govt programs from MMD tasks.
On TV you sounded like campaigning when you arrived in Luapula. Or maybe thats the way you are. Your speech is full of campaign jargon. Do you always perceive unwritten public speeches as campaign speeches? Certain platforms are not suitable for campaigns. You end up lying to the people.
There is time for everything, at time to work and a time to campaign. Maybe thats why meaningful development elude us.

  22. There is time for everything, at time to work and a time to campaign.Point or correction :-t
    KABYESI or IGWEEE or NKOSI
    ^:)^^:)^^:)^**==

  23. A time to work and a time to blog

A time to talk:-@ and time to listen 8->

I think its time for my ~o)

  24. “However, the President said he will not hate Dr Chiluba and will continue to invite him to state functions at State House like he has been doing to Dr Kenneth Kaunda. “President Chiluba was a very close friend of Mr Sata. ^:)^ Igwee, You don’t hate someone, rather you hate someone’s habits. Its the habits that people get nuts with. People get to jail to be rehabilitated, so bad habits can be “quashed”. The individual is then given a second chance in society. We do’nt hate convicts at all, we hate their habits.:-t
Let the hour l-) get this right. Prison is for both rich and Poor. I rest my case. do’nt…

  25. He who have hears, let him hear8-> ;))
He who chooses not to hear %-( happens to dig his own grave. Jesus is knocking on you hearts
    Got to go now.

  26. #11 believe it or not, its time for revolutionary 2011. you are forgiven too, coz you seem not to know how many MMD MP’s are in Luapula and how much little support MMD has over there.

    For the marginalized Zambians.

  27. he can start blowing and sucking former presidents if he so wishes. and when he becomes a former president he can blow and suck himself. deuces :)>-

  28. Rupiah is free to associate with and give respect to Chiluba, ‘birds of a feather flock together’. Instead of delivering development to Luapula he spends time on his ego and singing praises of Chiluba. As far as right-thinking Zambians are concerned Chiluba does not deserve any respect from anyone because he has no respect for Zambia and other people’s marriages.

  29. If RB is wise, he had already sought advice before going to Luapula so he knows the real issues on people’s hearts. If he didnt do that then he is wasting time there. Any leader worth his salt sits down with advisors before going on a major trip. Advisors would have told him why Luapula people vote the way they do, what issues matter most to them, the politics, the economics, the traditions, the culture, etc etc and the expectations. Advisors should already know about pedicle road, Mansa Batteries, Manganese, jobs, fishing, agric, access to markets etc.

Listening to advisors and to the people he’s visiting could win him hearts.

If he did these, he would be judged wise. It’s a mark of statesmanship. Otherwise, we’d question his leadership qualities, and wisdom.

  30. No. 17 your contribution lacks reasoning. You can not say that PF controll the city council revenue. Government funded projects is what we are talking about here. Yes all of us have seen the problems of flooding and things like that. But these can not be funded by the little money you collect from marketeers. Where do you think the council will get the money to pay council workers? Opposistion councillors and MPs alike have been telling this stubborn RB and his MMD to release the money for the projects you mentioned but he refuses for fear that its the opposition that wiil receive praise. Seondly, youn have seen the indiscipline being exhibited by RB’s cadres, he has told them to allocate land with impunity all we see from RB is its okay. 2011 kuyabebele period! Better to ruled by a…

  31. BR call a spade a spade.I think its time you stop thinking that Zambian people don’t know what your motives are with Kafupi. It just shows the world how unserious you are by associating with ex corrupt leaders who you are trying soo much to defend. Is there something you are hiding and maybe think when its your time you want the next leader to treat you likewise?I mean if anything you should have stayed as far away as posiible from Kafupi and pay more attention to the needs of the poor who were robbed of this money.Thank god Zambian politics are about to change come 2011.

  32. It is becoming increasly difficult for RB to move around the country …simply because MMD ha failed to deliver. If MMD want Luapula, they must first conquer Mansa… as one of the pipo from liverpool, Mansa represents the brain of luapula. You win Mansa and Luapula is yours…

  33. I think its time to form a political party with young brains, the current politicians have saturated brains. Serously if Bwezani can be friends with Kafupi and the country is watching and listening, “this is very sad”. We serously need a new kind of politics, Bwezani went to Russia for economics and never used it anywhere, kafupi honorally degree. Ba Thadi is a simple teacher for grade twos, she can’t even write a report about anything, she married an old man who is are grandfather! Bushe ba Unza, ba UK na ba America mulikwi? Zambian poeple can to be suffering for what they are wealth, tha country is rich, we have oil, water, great climate and minerals better than the USA and UK and we are poor and die from hunger coz of kafupi and Bwezani, this very sad, Am calling for a youth…
