Katumbi canes cheap politicking

Share

President Banda with DRC Katanga Governor Moses Katumbi at the Umutomboko ceremony in Mwansabombwe.

DEMOCRATIC Republic of Congo (DRC) Katanga Province Governor Moses Katumbi has described as cheap politicking allegations that he travelled to Mwansabombwe in Luapula Province to drum up support for President Banda.

Mr Katumbi told journalists in Ndola yesterday that he was a foreign national who cannot influence internal political matters of Zambia.

“To say that I went to Luapula Province to give support to the President (Banda) is cheap politics,” Mr Katumbi said.

He said DRC and Zambia share the longest border which stretches from Chililabombwe on the Copperbelt Province to Mununga in Luapula Province and his visits to Zambia are on mutual relations.

“So every time I come to Zambia, it is because of the mutual understanding between the two governments. I cannot have any influence over politics in Zambia because I am Congolese just like no Zambian can influence anything in the Congo,” Mr Katumbi said.

On his impromptu visit to Zambia, Mr Katumbi said he was in the country on the continued development understanding which exists between the two countries, especially the Copperbelt and Katanga provinces, respectively.

He said the bilateral relationship between Zambia and DRC will continue to benefit the people in the two countries through projects such as the tarring of the Pedicle Road which links the Copperbelt and Luapula provinces through the enclave of the DR Congo.
“We want to improve the Kasumbalesa border post,” he said.

Mr Katumbi, who was accompanied by Copperbelt Province permanent secretary Villie Lombanya and officers from the DRC consular office in Ndola, also held a meeting with officials from Gecamines at Bangala House before returning to Katanga Province.
Gecamines is a DR Congo-owned mine in Katanga province.

Earlier, Mr Lombanya said Zambia and DRC have for a long time enjoyed the bilateral and cordial relationship which exists between the two countries.

  1. Suspicion has come in becoz of coincidental happenings between Rb and Chiluba especially that immediately after they met in Luapula ,following day we heard that Katumbi’s impounded properties have been released by govt, what else do you expect from people.

  2. Wonder honestly is left bewildered by just what the hell Kanitundila is up to fratenizing with well known fraudstars like Katumbi. These sins Banda is commiting against this country will come back to haunt him one day. These are the scum of the world who worked with Chiluba gun-running for diamonds in Angola, a criminal scheme that saw millions lose their lives and this is the type of radio active opportunistic mercenaries Banda wants to be seen in public with, everyday. For a septuagenarian to claim he feels like a child on his 73rd birthday, something is seriously wrong. Next time, it will not be a monkey defacating on his suit, it will be he himself doing it. Miyanda, another one from the Kumawa, set the precedent when vinyau va KK danced for him.

  3. I hear Katumbi has a lot of wealth, so it is very easy for him to corrupt the highly corruptable RB and Chiluba. Natulelya fye ubwali mukwai na delele, chapwa.

  4. We need to be angry with RB & his MMD thugs. This is a guy who had shaddy dealing with Chiluba & now RB is embracing the same man. These politician never listen….Each dog has their day & RB’s is coming soon.

  5. RB seems to be mixing development with doubious associations with pipo with questionable reputations.
This was not PLMs style. Pipo around PLM may have perpertuated corruption, be his public image was clean. As for RB, he seems to think that an improved GDP will make his public associations with dubious charecters less evident. As things stand it is upto the opposition to capitalize on these associations. With an improving GDP and free fertelizers, the lagley rural electorate might just tip MMD through.

  6. The Katumbi factor in Zambian politics should really bring shame on us Zambians who love our country. I want all Zambians to register & vote in next year’s elections. We need to resist, oppose and denounce Katumbi’s interference in the affairs of Zambia by voting out all those embracing this crook. He made a fortune out of this country during the corrupt regime of Chiluba and he has gotten away with it. Let it end there. Let him relate to this country with the restraint and the dignity expected of a government official of a friendly neighbouring country. Am so angry with RB & his desparation to cling on to power at all costs.

  7. why so bitter? i wonder if your comments are really coming from a good place, whether or not they have genuine interest in moving our country forward

  8. so many people have been accused over and over of theft and all sorts of crime, but in our modern day and in this democracy we live in, we are left but with one choice…who will we have lead us? who’s evils are better? who’s evils do we choose to remember more vividly and who’s do we choose to forget? to be a good leader one must first be a good follower and even still one must step up to the plate than always throwing support behind others, why don’t some of those others give chance to their friends? this rupiah banda is not my personal favourite of candidates or presidents but he is here and we need to move forward, we need positive criticism and positive development….so what if katumbi stole? and if it was from us directly, what counts is how we rise from it, are we victims? or…

  9. are we a united democratic nation? whether tonga, bemba, lamba, ncwala, lozi, tumbuka we all have a common ultimate goal atleast the sane ones do and that is peace, stability, education, health and everyday meals. will this be achieved by constantly fighting with the people empowered to serve this purpose? i believe zambia is more mature than that, and that we can genuinely discuss progressive ideas. katumbi may or may not have stolen, but in this present he is loved in his country and is doing well and right by his people…this is the most important thing we need too as zambians, harmony

  10. awe chisumu ichi chi ka katumbi.. handsome man mwaah!, elo chalikwata impiya. nga nali chi gelo nga nilachipela everytime he needs it. nga chilani opena everyday, no complaints bane. anyways bane ine apa tuli fye mu pub pa beer. deuces bane :)>-

  11. Good Morning

Mr. Katumbi’s explanation sounds logical and reasonable in the first place. Naturally, no peace-loving Zambian would oppose his continued presence in Zambia for the sake of mutual understanding.

However, it is the hidden agenda that concerns us – people in Zambia and all over Africa have been politically used and abused too long that they have now become generally cautious. Most of them will no longer trust politicians blindly like their forefathers did before. They will not allow themselves to be plunderers in the name of “bilateral relations” anymore.

  12. nine chale pa number 15 mune your point does not make sense. re read and re post. deuces mune:)>-

  14. Yaba, my last sentence should read “…they will not allow themselves to be plundered…” and not “to be plunderers..”

walai, thanks for correcting me, it’s been a long night and I’ve just woken up… my eyes are still groogy, you know. Nomba imwe ni guzzling before lunch? Ifwe kuno ku Gelemani it’s a must to fill the belly first before going to the pubs…

Anyway, enjoy your weekend all the same. Cheerio :)>-

  15. #15 Nine Chale you have just pre-emptied my thoughts. Truely, its the un openess which bring a lot suspicion. Its a petty how crooks come into Zambia incognito with the help of topmost Zambian leaders. Its a pity also that RB and his fellow crooks are dining and wining with crooks from other countries. One wonders where Zambia’s gonna be tomorrow with crooks outnumbering descent citizens.

  16. The Post have written an interesting editorial in today’s Saturday Post. I encourage everyone to read it & understand why RB is making a mistake to be seen with this man in public. he can meet him privately after all he is the President & has the mechanism to do so.

  17. remember this guy was given a national registration card dudiously by chiluba when everyone knew that he was already very old and not Zambian.A wrong is a wrong and it will never be right. For my Pres to be seen with certain characters raises a lot of questions.I think that picture is just doctored,i can not believe it.

  18. Like it or not, fact, Katumbi is a businessman and politician. Let’s not be jealous about his achievements. Congo and Zambia do benefit from each other a lot, through trade. When Katumbi banned the transportation of copper ore to be smeltered in Zambia, its us who suffered a lot. When Katumbi was trading in Zambia as Chani fisheries many Zambians benefited a lot from lowly priced fish and mealie meal. Congo also benefits from Zambia through access of goods from SA. It also benefits through food, timber, cement and other goods and services that Zambians supply to Katanga people and industries.
Let’s not forget that contact between gov’t and Katumbi was banned and lifted by the late Mwanawasa. VJ was fired when he spoke to early about the restoring of relations. Spare RB on this one.

  19. I’ve never heard of this man , but for a mere governor of a neighbouring country he appears to command quite some attention and respect from our government officials.
..Why he should even bother to comment on innuendo or accusations when it’s none of his business in the first place?
….Mr Katumbi shut your mouth and furk off back to congo.

  20. # 23, Mr Katumbi played a major part in Zambians having to stop lining up for mealie meal in the late eighties and early ninetie because of his chani fisheries company. Secondly he was instrumental in bringing the Zambians fresh fish at a reduced price. Thirdly he played a part in re opening of both the chambishi metals mine and Bwana Mkumbwa mine. It is a fact that when LPM tried to have him arrested he literally brought the town of chingola and chililabombwe on its knees. He basically made a dent in the Zambian treasury. In congo he commands so much respect that he is not far off from the presidency seat.

  21. Zambia’s border with Congo stretches from someone in Kaputa (near Moba in DRC) to Kaleng’i Hills in Mwinilunga. Ba reporter, get your facts right.

  22. iwe number 25 by someone they mean that the border starts at katumbi’s house wawumfwa? deuces mune:)>-

walai bloggig live from london pub on way to get hiv test with the fellaz

  23. ask mutembo and Post to explain why LPM dropped the case against katumbi and signed a deal to give him back his emeralds which mutembo tried to steal.

  24. Katumbi is more powerful than our president on all angles. Hence the respect he gets from our belittled Politicians. When they meet this smooth talker ,they all become jelly.

  25. # 24 My Toyota…Thanx for enlightening me on the man.
It looks like he’s a necessary evil then , coz if there was once an order for his arrest which was subsequently withdrawn after economic blackmail , then it looks like he’s bigger than GRZ itself..!
Something does not add up here.

  26. some of you blogaz need help.you dont know katumbi from katanga.believe me you zambia cannot do without katanga.ask ftj, mwanawasa.its just that mwanawas is resting, but the truth is that rb and the gvt needs him.just find time to know the guy and you stop talking rubbish.

  27. song tyo bloggers:

  28. #22. Its got nothing to do with jealous but more to do with integrity. Any sensible president (RB is not sensible) or a person holding public office would refrain from public mingling with individuals whose past have been marred with criminal offences. In fact I particularly admire Katumbi’s business acumen. The guy’s smart. In fact, by far smarter than most of the Zambian highly educated business men. Definitely, RB must have promised him something big if he helps him (RB) to bribe the Luapula Province village bumpkins to win the forthcoming elections. Believe me you, Katumbi is not the type who makes a trip for nothing.

  29. The talk of tarring Pedicle road is just a gimmick. After it’s through him the DRC gave (or authorised to tar the road) Zambia Pedicle road. It was all over the news if you follow track of developmental issues of Zambia and am pretty sure I have got it filed somewhere on my hard drive. Now, the one and only thing you conclude from whole this is that RB will never stop from being a crook (since KK days) and a shameless habitual/ kleptomaniac thief. And really one would also conclude that Zambia is a cursed nation to have such a filthy-minded creature for president.

  30. #29. Its a fact. This guy’s bigger than GRZ. And he know how GRZ is run inside out. He could not be arrested because both Levy and Kafupi enjoyed his money through election sponsorship and many more other dubious favours, we hear. In short, the chap is intouchable in Zambia. Unfortunately, RB has also put himself in the line of his (Katumbi) fire of bribery. But, with RB it’s not surprising-RB has always been a crook. So, Kafupi and Katumbi are just his perfect mates.

  31. imwe you think katumbi is big eh? yaba any way comment reserved we dont blow our own horns bane. you will realise one day. any jim and jack can run grz and know it iside out bane. relax. have some back bone zambians. a limo and a mansion has scared you? u ve never bin around, not even around zambia, come to my home area new kasama, will show u bane. and thats just dyonko. even pa Uk we are balling, showing em how we does it. and it aint stolen money, we make it rain. deuces you paupers:)>-

  32. 🙁 Katumbi is a crook. Anyone who lived on the copperbelt knows that. Knows the man and his ex Zambian wife. He is up to something and its not good!

  33. iwe ka cheap toyoto colllola. ati shani iwe mwaiche, i can see you are now working for ba O.P.. secret agent ka? busy timing me. haha. nalikutemwa sana. so uli be saube te? ati shani fima hule fyapa joberg? mmm pali ba nkeche pa SA mune. i hpe u are using 5 ama condoms mune, plus female condom on her. deuces you ka wire care wawumfwa?:)>-

  34. The reconciliation between DRC and Zambia was initiated by Levy. You may remember the VJ issue where he was sacrificed in the interests of the state, and of course to SHUT UP the post. It surprised me at the time that the so called diggers at the post were too preocupied with lynching VJ to see what was happening. That is the reason why VJ is back, not RB. But as usual bloggers who peddle in noise and lies can only see RB, dream RB, think RB. Folks, get hold of your lives. This preoccupation with an otherwise hardworking and diplomatic RB and things that are beyond your capability to understand will not put food on the table for your children, nor that nice dress and car for your wife!

  35. Howdy #22 Zedian UK and #24 My Toyota is faulty; thanks for elaborating a bit more on Mr Katumbi. I find your info about him quite eye opening. Ofcourse I remember the cheap mealie meal and the fish from Chani Fisheries…a lot of Zambians on the Copperbelt where I once lived benefited a lot. But is man also associated with some of the Refrigerated Fishing Trucks with the writing ‘Katebe Katoto’ on the sides?
#28 bobm you have made me laugh…quite some sense of humour there.

  36. It is really shameful that a Governor of Congo can have so much power over our so called President! This man stole from us and we have a retard called RB licking his feet? Where is our pride? These people RB ka Mulongoti, Chi VJ and the rest of these *****s should not be careless when acting on behalf of Zambia!

  37. katumbi has cash. all you bloggers who hate can all suck on his drc cocck and swallow his nut. otherwise respect his conglomerate
    ballllin!!!!1

  38. ZODIE DUBE, you must be George Kunda, otherwise why do you use such nasty language on the blogs — like RB who often likes using the word “por.nography”? Birds of a feather …

  39. # 12 &13 Rude Boy. The chronic lack of intellect in your contributions is embarrassing, are you a secondary school kid or maybe one of the Zambian self imposed refugee sweeping the streets of Melbourne and cleaning toilets? Violence does not necessarily constitute the lack of peace and stability, the mere fact that nearly 70% of our people do not have access to good health, education and worry on a daily basis about whether they will be able to support their families in the future is in itself violence and when its psychological like this, its more destructive. When the leaders that be tasked with making things better are seen fratenising with fraudstars who have stolen from them before, it disheartens them, and rightly so!

  40. It looks like its only a certyain sector of our society here that seems to believe we need Katangese, maybe we should cede them to Katanga so that they become a district there under Katebe Katoto Katumbi. As long as we continue idolizing criminals with ill gotten wealth as role models, we are on the one way route to Gbadolite, doomed we are. It reminds me of the days abena Ben Katanga Mwila were still in power and nearly every Luapulan was yearning to be like them, saturated with wealth from military contracts for supply of goods he never supplied. Luapulans’ pagent for acquiring ill gotten wealth is what is pulling this country down. No wonder, there even terrible wizards like Katele are idols, stinking lazoz like Chiluba ‘e ntungulushi kateka no. 1. Only there can one be excused for…

  41. stealing repeatedly, by mistake like “CHIEVE” Puta asked us to forgive that stinking and wholly unrepetent thief called Chabala Kafupi Jacob Titus Mpundu fimo fimo Musangu Chilubaba!

  42. A lot of Congolese fellows on this blog are big headed with their “Katumbi guy” What makes you think Zambia can’t survive without Katanga Province?

  43. If it’s the Congolization of Zambia they want to bring about, we shall load them all into Chimbokaila, you just can’t have a whole people so addicted to stealing and idolizing “fi sakala”.

  44. Let Mr Mpombo George reveal the data on why he resigned from President RB Banda’s Cabinet as he rather go to jail now than see ‘dimwits’ progress. I hope Mr Katumbi will not be touched in next wk’s promised press conference by Mr Mpombo on influencing Zambian internal politics.

    Have a blessed day all.

    __
Matt 6:33 But seek ye first the kingdom of God and His righteousness and all these things shall be added unto you.

  45. Copperbelt should be integrated into Katanga Province. Let Katumbi become our leader. Anybody who can make money were others fail is good for us. We have common history which makes us one.

Viva Katumbi Viva Zambia / Congo relations.

  46. My heart is bleeding, This Chiluba pygmy is mocking at us. This is the guy who paid Katumbi $20 million plus for the military equipment that has never been delivered todate and it is believed Chiluba has a joint account with Katumbi in Belgium. We miss LPM the state counsel. We need some one in state house brave enough to sort out these *****s once and for all and not iyi mbushi ilenya amasushi mu state house

  47. #54 Do not forget that the late LPM used to do business in DRC himself. It was the post that gave the impression that LPM was sorting out Katumbi and company when in actual fact nothing like that was happening. That is why nothing happened to Katumbi in the end. His properties and businesses have all been handed back to him. This guy is not just any other business man, he is the ‘President of Katanga’.

Sometimes one has to overlook certain things for the greater good of the nation. 🙂

Katanga is important to us Zambians, we need Katanga and DRC and they need us too. :d

I would suggest we just make the best of things, it will always be better to be in good rather than bad relations with DRC.

  48. While you are at it, forget Chiluba, he too is untouchable. President of Zambia for 10 years, unsitting 27 rule of Kaunda and the party he led is still in power. On top of that he is in good relations with the President, has links with Katumbi the millionaire. The government owes him at least £40 miilion. He has been cleared of all accusations.

😉 Clearly he is unstoppable. 😉

Just get on with your life, move on because your complaints will not change a thing in the lifestyle of Chiluba. It is like his life has already been marked out, Presidential benefits and status, nothing can change that, at least not any time soon. Only God can.

  49. But my marriage to Regina was consummated in accordance with the law and custom. It was conducted above board fulfilling all the requirements by first sending elders from my side to her people who agreed together to allow us to marry as she was a divorcee already. This was almost two years after my divorce.
So our marriage was and still is a very clean affair.
But you Mr. Sata do you have one wife or you are polygamous?
Who is Petronella Mpundu, a biological sister to Bishop Mpundu of the Catholic Church?
Do you have any relationship with her?
Are her two children Mukupa and Chilufya your children? Are you the biological father of Mukupa and Chilufya?

  50. This guy Katumbi and Kabila have caused the death of millions of Congolese, why are we courting them?dumb Zambians!!!!!!!!!!!
