MMD national secretary Katele Kalumba

MMD national secretary Katele Kalumba has called on the Copperbelt MMD provincial leadership to respect the decision of the national executive committee on Kafulafuta member of Parliament George Mpombo’s case.

Yesterday the MMD on the Copperbelt called on Kafulafuta Mr. Mpombo to hasten his resignation from the ruling party as it is clear that he is allegedly not in good standing with the party.

Dr Kalumba said NEC will ensure that all procedures are followed and that the ruling party should be strategic on certain issues.

He called on the provincial leadership not to be emotional but to act on strategic sense of political reasoning.

“I understand their sentiments but there should be strategic sense of political reasoning,” he said.

Provincial chairman Joseph Chilambwe said in an interview that Mr Mpombo had now become a faultfinding person within MMD.

“If MMD is a bad party why cling to it? All Mr Mpombo should do is to resign from the ruling party and prove his popularity from outside,” Mr Chilambwe said.

He said Mr Mpombo was in UNIP, he resigned to join the United Party for National Development, the party he ditched to join the MMD.

“What is stopping him from resigning from MMD because that has been his political style,” Mr Chilambwe said.

He advised Mr Mpombo to stop politicising the death of Deputy Minister of Home Affairs Misheck Bonshe.
Mr Chilambwe said it is bad to politicise death which is a natural occurrence.

But when reached for comment Mr Mpombo said he will not resign and will contest the MMD presidency at the convention.

He said he was still popular in Masaiti and urged Mr Chilambwe to stop interfering with matters in Kafulafuta and Masaiti constituencies.

  1. Mupombo, is a none issue. He is finished. If he was a principled man he should have come out clear & told the nation the corruption he alleagies in his former Ministry. In developed countries (USA e.g) when u dont agree with the going ons, u quit state yo case & keep quite. Look at COLLIN POWEL. He disgreed with IRAQ issue & quit & went quite. Not NYIO NYIO NYIO everyday. Find a another career.

  2. On “He called on the provincial leadership not to be emotional but to act on strategic sense of political reasoning,” is former Minister Ma decoy to gather intelligence from the PACT? This is suscipious from MMD Sec Gen Kaka.

As for “He said Mr Mpombo was in UNIP, he resigned to join the United Party for National Development, the party he ditched to join the MMD,” the PACT movement in general and the mighty UPND Team with its visionary president and presidential candidate of the UPND Hakainde Hichilema is at hand to make sure the PACT wins the 2011 tripartite elections overwhelmingly with or without Hon G. Mpombo’s support.

Have a blessed day and please PACT people keep making them MMD GRZ panic.

  3. When Mpombo resigned as Defence Minister he should have been specific by stating the reasons why he was resigning.

  4. This Mpombo never ceases to amaze me. He wants to contect the MMD presidency at the convention and claims that he is still popular in Masaiti. Does being popular in Masaiti translate into popularity at national level, for the convention? impombo, please stay in the relish pot. You are an embarrassment to all.

  5. Mr Mpombo did not resign on moral grounds hence he keeps yapping every now and then, it is high time he came out in the open and tell the nation the real reasons for his resignation other than just talking nonsense every single day. He has no timing of the happenings on the ground. He needs to focus on real issues and not politicising everything happening in the country. If he really is popular in the MMD, he needs to be strategic and stop his arsenal attacks on the MMD members. I’m sure there is a way to solve problems amicably for the sake of development, unity and showing good
morals. But the way Mr Mpombo has been carrying himself, its really disappointing and he needs to be disciplined and even expelled from the party for his gross indiscipline he is continuously showing to the…

  6. Calibre. Calibre. The man is becoming a nincoppo himself.

I thought Mpombo resigned so he could study – an MBA or something like that. Looks like his integrity is shambles

  7. Hide and Seek- MMD are not sure they can retain the Kafulafuta Seat- Mpombo is afraid resigning and lose his perks because he is not sure he will retain his current seat. Lets just watch the soap

  8. Am sure this Mpombo (Antelope) is not even fit for the pot. The man has gone bananas nothwistanding the fact that he was DefenceMinister. Monkey baptism has really done him good such that even his own children are dead embarresed at the yapping of the father. Mpombo please resign and face Patrick Mwanawasa if you think you are popular.

  9. Mpombo is a fastidious and ostentatious scholar, just to borrow a couple of jaw breakers from his famous dictionary.

  10. Katele has spoken sense. let mpombo continue with his rantings MMd is a democractic party. come convention the man will not even be able to muster one nomination

  11. Mpombo cant resign to join the PACT because he knows it has no future. Sata cant stand for next elections because he has no academic degree from a recognised university. Additionally a bombshell has been dropped–Sata has a crminal record which again disqualifies him further. As if that is not enough, we need also to factor in the new costitution that ‘if a presidential candidate has lost three consecutive times he disqualifies him/herself for a fourth contest’ Sata fits in there. This leaves ka HH smiling. Ka HH has a degree and has only tumbled twice. But then whether you are Bantu Botatwe or not , this ka HH who cant offer a simple smile before cameras, can only win in Southern Province but Livingstone. Viva RB, Viva Serious Legal Mind George Kunda, Viva MMD. 2011 Landslide

  12. #13 Alinaswe you’re a dreamer…What serious legal mind is Kunda. That chap can’t believe his new found fortune. RB has been thrown a life line as a farmer with a new found passion globe trotting at the expense of the Zambian tax payer. I don’t like petty tribal politics so I won’t comment on HH, As for Sata, MMD should allow him to stand so that he loses the elections fair & square. If he is not such a threat why are they coming up with all these constitution clauses now.

  13. Mpombo wants to stand for the MMD Presidency, his democratic right – no dispute. But, he is in the fore front trying to destroy the party by washing dirty linen in public… any sense in the man?

  14. I have been observing for some time now, it appears this forum is full of MMD sponsored hungry maniacs. They are so inconsistent with their comments of which one wonders whether they are paid for what they post on this forum. Instead od debating, they resort to name calling, insulting and rediculing people without any reasonable cause. No wonder many credible people have stopped contributing to this forum.

  15. mr. jojo only pf cadres have stopped contributing becuase they have no power of analysis. things have changed now. we do not want insults on this forum so the riff raff have gone. also the fact that sata has been undressed by FTJ means that a lot of his so called kaponya’s are still in a state of shock while FTJ enjoys himself in Joburg they have remained confused even more so after mpundu’s rantings which have made it even worse for sata. check other stories and you will over 150 comments on the sata/mpundu saga

  16. King Solomon can u and your masters plse let Sata stand and lose fairly. Why are u deathly afraid of the man?let the people decide!!!!!viva Pact vica Sata..

  17. King solomon etal,
Please spare us that shit you are talking about. MMD has failed us and we just cant carry the banner anymore than we already have. Let someone else lead us not these guys that have run out of ideas and now going to great lengths to block their political opponets. Believe it or not SATA & HH are a Major factor in our political sphere, days are not with you all anymore. So unmask to visualize that that these days coming will change a lot. Unless you all rig elections as you have done in the last 20 years and keep on making Laws directed at people MMD in the current state has no future.

  18. you MMDS.. WATCH THE SPACE… KATALE IS NOT PART OF THE REAL MMD REALM… HIM AND THE MASAITI LEGEND WILL BE JOINING US SOONEST! (PACT) POWER TO THE PEOPLE!!!!!!

FJTs finance minister. Who coutersigned all stolen monies. One of the inner circle.

  20. #17 King Solomon, the truth is that most of you who are defending the MMD blindly surely know there is no credible leadership in this party. It is a shame that instead of thinking about the future of our country, you stand by and see the country being destroyed by agreeing to all the nonsense MMD says to you. Do you surely think that the current leadership deserve another term in office? and if you do, why? You are the same hyprocrites who will start praising the Pact, the loudest, when they win next year. You have no sense of shame and no regard for the average Zambian stuggling to get by. stop and think…it helps.

  21. #17 King Solomon, by the way please change your name… not only is it the same as mine apart from the fact that you have used the term KING, you should not use it because Solomon is a name of great historical standing, and King Solomon thought about his people and asked God to help him lead them wisely. None of these attributes fit you, so please reconsider.

  22. # 23 Solomon
“Do you surely think that the current leadership deserve another term in office? and if you do, why? ”

How about increased GDP and other numbers associated with an improving economy, all witnessed by the IMF and world bank ?

  23. #26 Kc, you are disappointing! So you have to wait and hear from the IFM in order for you to get to grips with the reality in Zambia, or maybe you are not in Zambia and therefore you have no clue what’s on the ground. How do you measure the economy performance in a country? Do you have to wait for the IFM to tell you that now you are rich or that now you are poor? You sound like many people like you, who have been schooled but have no education. If you are educated, and am not reffering to certificates acquired, then you would know the importance of self-determination and how this is a key component to the future of our country. Be wise!

  24. The man even organized his wife to insult the MMD – the same party he wants to lead. He doesn’t realize that you do not make permanent enemies in politics. In his confusion, he was seen shaking hands or congratulating the Archbishop in one of the tabloids shortly before the clergyman went to bash the “legacy” that Mpombo wants to make an issue out of. I wonder whether his senses are aligned.

  25. But ba MMD are finished. Now their problem is Mpombo. Yesterday it Archbishop Mpundu, The other day it was Sata. Guys, Mpombo is there to shock your failed vision. Mpombo is working more than MMD in its entirety. He will bring your party to its knees. Now Mpombo cannot even shake hands with Archbishop? In all fairness, Mpombo seems to be a political genius that MMD will never have. He is killing the grain from inside. The untouchable Mpombo cannot be fired from MMD. They are afraid of another by elections embarrassment. Go Mpombo. Tell it as you saw it and as you see it.

  26. The real MMD members and proper advisers left this MMD a long time ago.If Sata is nothing, not even a threat, why bother?

  27. # 27 solomon,
By most measures the standard of living is improving in zambia, with the diaspora zambians embarking on a masive exhodus back to the mother land. This is one measure i use. If Zambia was not doing well do you think all those going home would be doing so ?

  28. Things are certainly changing in the country, there is a emerging middle class eg. you find that teachers/ nurses etc are driving. there is a lot of construction and the mine suppliers are really laughinhg all the way to the bar ( sorry bank) However, most of the the population is in real poverty. I think the economic trickle down theory as not working according to expectations

  29. Solomon just shut up johnny come late. I have been a King for a long time and so just find another name. I am not supporting MMD, Katele has just spoken sense. what is wrong with what he has said??? you pf kaponya’s when you run out of ideas you go straight to making accusations rather than address the real issues. Sata has been left alone and naked and now he is a one man party. As soon as gratuity is paid you will see how many MP’s will jump ship

  30. Zambia is doing very well and if we had a better opposition that is a loyal oppsition we would even be a better country. Instead what we have are kabova’s with no new ideas of taking the country forward. daily its just insults and lies. We are tired of this rubbish hence our support for MMD to just continue. What alternative do we have????

  31. “Against the background of the global economic crisis, the Zambian economy has shown considerable resilience, and economic growth is now expected to exceed 5 percent in 2009. Mining and agriculture have shown strong gains in output; nonetheless, there have been job losses in mining and some financial difficulties in the agricultural sector. Inflation is moderating, assisted by a softening of food prices and a limited reversal of the earlier depreciation of the Kwacha; the revised inflation target of 12 percent by end-2009 is well within reach. The external position has also strengthened, both because of the earlier-than-expected recovery in copper prices and the exchange rate-related compression of imports. Zambia’s reserve position at about US$1.7 billion is now stronger than it has…

  32. credible comments from international economists. so why should we listen to a grade 4 who has no clue about economics?? why?? I refuse to accept the opinion of a man who has never gone beyond grade four. thats why even Zuma has maintained Trevor manuel as a key advisor in his Government. While sata contiunues to rely on kaponya’s like willie nsanda, given lubinda, wynter kabimba and others who have shown their ignorance and lack of understanding of real issues. Sata has even made an intelligent guy like HH look like a fool

  33. i foresee that 15 candidates will stand to dilute the vote. people want change, not necesarilly Sata. so when given a reliable option, they will vote otherwise. MMD will carry the day sadly. because they have the core vote. people will vote on tribal lines, religious and regional lines.
the born agains will not vote for catholic sata, the catholics against rupiah. the intellectuals will join chipimo, the lost will join miyanda. the blogers never vote because the majority are either working in nursing homes or sleeping on the couch in the diaspora.
the voters will be swayed only slightly by the post. muvi tv is pro government. so i guess i may have to vote to keep sata out. not RB in. lets see what Chipimo has to offer. at the moment the PACT represents kaponya MMD rejects and mad lozis

  34. Why doesn’t this man Katele Kalumba for once talk about development in Luapula province after Nchelenge district? He has no idea on what developments have to be made in his constituency. He is just enrichinh himself in Lusaka. Shame!!!! All MP’s must be made to go to their provincial hospitals when they fall ill instead of sending them abroad!!!

  35. Thank you king solomon.
Why are some pipo disputing facts and figures with out facts and figures of there own ? They see poor pipo in zambia and judge the country by that. even in the USA we have poverty. Dispute the improved GDP figures with facts, not trying to blind us with insults on RBs GRZ. If you support the opposition, base your arguments on the development of our country or why the world bank/IMF facts are wrong. I for one belive those figures because as King solomon has said, they are from renowned chaps. And i have witnessed the growing middle class. I have seen the vibrancy of the local markets.

  36. Solomon##
You are too emotion on your comment. Your language also is so backward. Why calling honorable Lubinda MP and others as Kaponya? Pliz respect everyone regardless of they political affilition. We have one zambia one Nation. MMD is not your personal Party, its for all Zambian. POLITICT of calling each other names is long gone. BE CIVILISED come on
