Six civil society organisations in Lusaka have petitioned government to immediately release from detention former Catholic Priest father Frank. Bwalya
The civil society in a communiqué signed in Lusaka today accused police of exhibiting double standards and practising political policing as opposed to civil policing which was anchored on respect for human rights.
Fr. Bwalya, who is Change Life Zambia Director is current detained at Kamfinsa Prison in Kitwe for allegedly campaigning for the removal of the current government from power.
Those who signed the communiqué at the press briefing in Lusaka today are Transparent International Zambia (TIZ) President Reuben Lifuka, Caritas Zambia President Samuel Mulafulafu and ‘the de-registered’ SACCORD’s Executive Director Lee Habasonda.
Others include Paul Lungu’s National Youth Anti-corruption Movement, Rickson Kenema of the Zambia Youth against the fight Against Corruption and Civil Society for Poverty Reduction (CSPR) representative Patrick Mucheleka
CSPR representative Patrick Mucheleka who read the communiqué of behalf of other civil society organizations warned government that the civil society would not be intimidated by the arrest of Fr. Bwalya
Mr. Mucheleka said the civil society has vowed to continue to advocate for the fight for a good constitution, good governance, corruption and fight against high levels of poverty in the country.

Lusaka Times please learn to use the RIGHT REFERENCE. Fr. Bwalya is “NOT A FORMER CATHOLIC PRIEST” he is a CATHOLIC PRIEST. We do not mind if such a mistake is made by people in the street, but it matters a lot if a media organisation can make such a poor and wrong reference. Fr. Bwalya is a CATHOLIC PRIEST even if he is suspended or has gone on leave of absence. Being suspended does not make Fr. Bwalya a former priest. It is a shame that such a medium of communication can constantly refer to someone with wrong reference. Fr. Bwalya has never quit priesthood. stop referring to him as former.

Arbitrary arrests and detentions are supposed to to be fought by all Zambians, no matter the affilliation.
This message is to those who are educated and use their brains right. The fight to have father Bwalya released must continue in a different direction. Here is my suggestion. Those in support of the effort must put on any attire with red color in it every Friday of the week. Let’s see what the police will do this time since there is no distribution of Red Cards. The attire being worn will send a transparent message of the Red Card. The majority of people have red wear of some kind.
