United Party for National Development (UPND) Vice President Richard Kapita has urged Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) to told Mufumbwe and Milanzi constituencies by-elections simultaneously to save on costs.

Mr. Kapita said declaring Milanzi as the only seat to be contested for presently would be a waste of scarce resources that the country has.

The UPND vice president was speaking at a UPND press briefing in Lusaka today.

Mr. Kapita observed that ECZ would spend more money sending people to South Africa to have the ballot papers printed separately for the two by-elections.

And Mr. Kapita accused the ruling Party for targeting UPND members for UPND in Milanzi and Mufumbwe constituencies.

He said the MMD was panicking because it has no candidates in the named constituencies and was eyeing UPND members.

“We know that MMD is panicking for not having candidates for Milanzi and Mufumbwe constituencies but we are not going to allow them, we have enough evidence,” Mr. Kapita noted.

He has also refuted reports that members from UPND defected to join MMD at yesterday’s MMD card renewal exercise.

Mr. Kapita said the party members have a strong conviction on UPND and know what the party has for its people.

“Our people know that UPND will soon take lead and has therefore no reason for joining a party which is losing in the coming tripartite elections,” he said.

Meanwhile, Mr. Kapita has called on MMD and the police to release Father Frank Bwalya and give him a fair trial.

“It is said that Fr. Bwalya was been starved and his family could not be allowed to see him especially his mother,” Mr. Kapita observed.

Mr. Kapita said Fr.Bwalya deserved a trial just like anyone else and then charged according to the outcome.

  1. why talk only about UPND in the next by-elections, i thought you guys were UPND-PF Pact or PF-UPND Pact, which is which? The pact must be seen to work together now.. not just heard of for 2011. I smell something whatever its does not smell good..

  2. This somehow makes sense, more like killing 2 birds with one stone, one trip to south africa for ballot papers instead of 2 trips in a space of 2 months
And why cant we print our own ballot papers, all this money that has been spent on ballot papers could have been invested in the same machinery that the south african companies are using

  3. A PACT is just an understanding between two organizations to support each other and work towards a common goal, ultimately they work as individual entities, none has more influence on the other, they just have a common undertaking, each one can do their own work independently without jeopardizing the other,,,,,,,,,,,the ignorance being potraid on this blog is shocking to say the least

  4. # 3 thanks for clearing the air for # 1. But why should we have to print the ballot papers in South Africa? When South Africans are holding elections they print their own Ballot papers so why cant we do it on our own? I thought some quarters have branded South Africa a devilish country yet as a christian nation we keep using the services of the devil

  5. Nice stuff by the mighty UPND Team’s leadership. On the UPND 1st vice president Kapita’s commemnts about UPND only and leaving out PF, it is clear that UPND is more popular in Mufumbwe Northwestern Province as well as Milanzi Eastern Province than PF and also perfomed better than PF in the last MP elections. Thus following the MOU of the UPND-PF PACT, the UPND has to field both MP candidates while PF just supports the mighty UPND Team.

I hope PF cadres will understand this for the betterment of the PACT and all Zambians. Note from today’s POST ““…Chibaba it pains them to see us united. Let us not cheat ourselves, UPND on our own we can’t win, PF on their own you can’t win elections so let us unite so that we can make it in 2011,” he [presidential candidate HH]…

  6. I understand that money needs to be saved therefore lets have ballot papers for two by-elections printed once..logical and correct!. The point i was trying to put across in my comment (#1) is that if UPND-PF or PF-UPND pact are a pact as the claim, then they should be talking about a UPND-PF or PF-UPND ‘taking lead’ because one candidate will ‘stand’ on a pact ticket.. i surely don’t expect UPND to have a candidate and PF to have different candidate if they are a pact:-?
so mr smoothcriminal (#3) don’t eat to much leftovers to extent were you brains becames small because of the surrounding fat in your head… to put it simple don’t be too judgemental if you have a small brain… i was just questioning the stand of the pact not accusing or claiming:o

  7. Like i said earlier, these are 2 different parties with a common undertaking, they each can make statements, doesnt mean that what they say is a true reflection of the other party, when the time comes to select a candidate, they will sit and discuss who to adopt and put both resources to good use.whoever is going to stand will either be UPND or PF,nothing like PACT ticket
I wont dwell on the part where you say eating leftovers makes the brain become small because of surrounding fat,you could be talking from experience, who knows?

  8. ECZ is neither a branch of the UPND nor does it work on their irrational, uncultural and insensitive terms of the UPND failed leadership. ECZ works within legally and morally time frame that espouses human sensitivity.Hon. Maboshe just died yesterday and the constitution gives time to the ECZ to come up with a bye election within reasonable time. Why the rash? Since the death of Hon.Chisanga reasonable time has passed like wise Maboshe’s constituency its moral reasoning but within reasonable time.due to lack of wisdom no wonder Ichilema is in the business of insulting traditional leaders with impunity. He is uncultured black sheep than a moralist.

  9. #8 Senior Citizen
My Brother, this is just a suggestion, upnd cannot influence any decisions at ecz, think of the money that would be saved if these by elections were done at once,we are mmd but lets try to reason beyond mmd

  10. Patriot did you just say that to senior citizen? Senior citizen shocked me the other day aswell, are you guys seeing the light finally?

  11. Andrew Mpande, The Dre, Kalos2020,Chapi the whinner, Vinthu Vina Mwebanthu and Mulenga New Castle,

With your history of insults, whynnning on creative LT honchos who independently feature also some pro MMD news article and indeed all selfless pro-MMD activists, why don’t you chaps as PF league boycot LT and instead start your very own pro Sata blog where insults could freely reign? I would join you there.Let leave LT because this form has proved an issue driven blog where sanity and intervention has a place. We are not doing Sata any good here by accusing the LT Honchos, insulting RB and shooting blanks on MMD activists? Don’t we have creative PF cadres who can start a pro PF blog? Don’t tell me we are all street kids without brains.Leave LT to the elitists, intellectuals.

  12. Ba senior citizen u amaze me with the way u blog. There are PF/UPND supotas on this blog but they blog very professional, nomba imwe muchitafwe blog kwati bamyebele ati tamwa foke.

  13. # 10,

Stop confusing yourself on patriot a seasoned intelligent patriot and holder of a powerful MBA from renown USA Business school. Iknow the guy better such that he cannot be confused by this matter. FYI, Kindly detail me on costing and how two bye-elections in different provinces and constituencies held on same day would help save the country some money. FYI, I’m not a stranger in these budgetary matters considering that in my first Graduate school discipline i focused on Public Finance and Budgeting before i went back for another line of discipline.Could help to elevate the debate withh intellect.I stand ready to debate you.Thank you though for trying.

  14. ‘Frank Bwalya Married in jail’
Dissident ex-priest Frank Bwalya turned pro-Genocide advocate in Zambia has been married in Kamfinsa populated hardcore criminal jail. Captain Kobi a 15 year remade who married Bwalya on Saturday evening declared himself Chief husband and immediately opened the intercourse in full view of cheerleaders. Per jail tradition overnight, it believed other sub captain turned in for their rounds. Prison warders on duty this morning have found Bwalya fatigued and weak after overnight services. Bwalya that sleeps on a cold concrete without blankets overnight has had his mattress and beddings the government provided him grabbed every night by fellow imamates only to be returned every morning. Overnight he is squeezed to sleep in the corner next to toilet bucket.

  15. Good Afternoon

Looks like the ball of confusion is still rolling in Zambian politics. What I do not yet fully understand is how much influence the ruling party has on the ECZ – are they funded by the government or do they have an independent source of revenue? In African politics it’s all about who pays the piper calls the tune.

I think we need more input from bloggers from Zambia in these matters, otherwise the rest of us outside the country are only forced to monitor events from a distance… 8->

  16. #13, shani yama, mulamfuluka? Shani. I recall that song kids sang;
Pali baKalos, pali baKalos, nshilala utulo
    Nshila utulo umutima ulasebauka.

  17. #16,.thats a scoop!..top soup news…am sure Father..no, i mean “mother” bwalya will come out of kamfinsa a changed person…

  18. Lets call a spade a spade. This is good reasoning from VP of UPND. Infact not only financial resources would be saved but also time. The country will have time to focus on other developmental matters instead of putting the country in a constant state of violent campaigns. This is really reasonable but people with infested heads can’t just get it.
Politicking without reasoning won’t just get us anywhere. Meanwhile Zambia for sound leadership come 2011…. HH for 2011.

  19. Only Senior Citizen can not see sense from what the Veep has said. Simple, you need to have working senses to see someone else’s sense.

  20. Senior Citizen, do you mean to say everything that the opposition says has got no substance in it accept what you and the MMD say? Are all Zambians in the opposition dull eccept you. These are geniune questions which need geniune answers from you. I just want to understand your reasoning coz you have never ceased to amaze me.

  21. UPND may Loose if they have maintained to feature Kamondo a Chokwe, then they are going to Loose and we are not going to allow a foreigner ( A Chokwe) to take control of our Land, becoz they are just squators in our Land.Especially the role he played with kavindele to Release Samuzhimu who is claiming rulership in the Land he is Squating in.Yes or No ,we are ready for this battle. UPND should think twice or else it will regret.Kaondes are the majority ,For your own imformation Mufumbwe was formerly under Kasempa and at No time did we have a Luchazi Chief in Our Land. So UPND watchout.

  22. I may sound tribalistic, but it is them the Chokwes who have lost respect for owners of the Land. We will not let them take over our Land,Our Fore Fathers did not make a mistake to allow them settle in Our Land,No Chief allowed the in N/Western but we did.
