The Movement for Multiparty Democracy (MMD) has given K22 million to organizing committees of three forthcoming local government and one parliamentary by elections in Northwestern Province.

Minister of Mines and Minerals Development Maxwell Mwale disclosed this during the launch of MMD provincial card renewal exercise in Solwezi over the weekend.

Mr. Mwale said three wards where there will be local government by-elections in Mufumbwe, Kasempa and Solwezi west will receive K3 million each.

He said out of the K3 million each ward will receive, K2 million is for organizing election activities while K1million for buying bicycles.

He said the party has provided K13 million towards the Mufumbwe parliamentary by-election of which, K10 million will go towards organizing activities while K3 million will be used to buy bicycles.

Mr. Mwale said there was need for all the party members in the province to uphold peace and unity in order to work towards achieving one purpose of strengthening the party and win the elections.

And speaking earlier, MMD acting Northwestern Province chairperson, Peter Patel said the party attaches great importance to the card renewal exercise as it determines its strength.

Mr. Patel said for the party to enhance its strength, there was need for the members to take the exercise seriously by renewing their membership.

“This exercise posses a huge challenge to you all because after renewing your membership, you should go flat out and recruit new members into the party,” he said.

Mr. Patel said the party in the province was intact, adding that it has already started reorganizing itself and strategizing on how to win back the Mufumbwe parliament seat.

The Mufumbwe parliamentary seat was left vacant after its Member of Parliament, Misheck Bonshe died last month.

  1. Are political parties in Zambia audited?

Where do pact and MMD get their money from?

I hope non of the $1bn loan from China makes its way to Northwestern in the form of campaign money.

  2. Dear Editor,
It is a pity that the manner in which the Catholic Church appears to support a tribal party in Zambia. Centiments and activities being perpetrated by such Clergy as Mpundu, Mwewa and their trouble instigator Bwalya may plunge the this Church into a major rift. These Priests are merely revealing that to be a true Catholic, one must be a Bemba. This is a Church that has enjoyed masses of worshipers from all provinces of Zambia. It puzzling that the apparent dessent is only being articulated by the clique of Bemba priests. We wonder where the interests of the white priests (Miha and Duffy) lie in this peaceful country! Are priests that hail from other tribes considered incalpable of articulating intelligent pronouncements.

  3. In this regard non-Bembas are only considered good boys if they can used as horses to ride on. Should such “horses” come to discover the truth, then Zambia may be engulfed into a Rwanda-style genocide of the innocent people of God. Why is the Vatican failing to supervise its Clergy in Zambia? Puzzling indeed! The recent outbursts against the integrity of the Late President Mwanawasa is even more chilling. What does Mr Mpombo and his clique feel about Sata’s satanic insults on the noble gestures of Patrick Mwanawasa. Interesting development. Many observers may go along with the floating theory (asseertion) that satanic spirits have invaded the Catholic leadership in Zambia. God forbid!

  4. The MMD is a conduit for laundered money. Even Fred admitted that part of the $8 million in the Zamtrop A/c could have been laundered money.

  5. #4: Parties get money from members payroll deductions and in other cases card sales. That’s why you have seen this push to grow more positions in, deputy this, commissioner that, councilor that…all in an effort to not only reward themselves for winning elections but also create a conduit to siphon money from the public vault to support their jobs. And when they don’t have enough, they simply take it. What can you say/do? Absolutely nothing!

  6. Also, the same money is used to employ airheads like the one in #5 & 6 to populate the cyberspace with racially charged propaganda in his bid to highlight perceived tribalism. Racists and tribalists cost the same in my neighborhood’s corner store.

  7. Receive the money. Use it wisely and vote for the Pact. Period.
If they give meal-meal or other stuff-get them use them and know you vote which is secret.
    Viva!!

  8. There is a certain relief in change, even though it be from bad to worse. we are fed up of MMD, 20 years???? awe as obama would say “the time for change has come”….& as #10 has said, receive the money, and be make a wise decision in voting for the pact.

  9. Ba Observer #5&6, what exactly are you saying? Ati Satanic Catholics, Bembas, Genocide and Rwanda in Zambia what…? Just write what you are trying to write. Be bold bane, enlighten us.*-:)

  10. Yaba, MMD you can do better than that.

Sad reading from MP Sakwiba Sikota, SC, following his “United Liberal Party (ULP) President Sakwiba Sikota has welcomed the decision by the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) to hold the Milanzi and Mufumbwe By-elections on different days” on WD. It is sad to note that MP Saki is still bitter with the whole UPND Team as expressed in his coward words “He said those demanding that the by-elections be held on the same day to cut costs do not know what is involved in preparing for an election” after losing his UPND president ambition to man of the moment HH.

Let MP Saki concentrate on holding elections or a convention in his own nashala neka ULP.

    Have a nice day all.

  11. This is not MMD money its party of Consituenncy Dev Fund/CEEP. Again we are seeing MMD abusing our money for rubbish things.

  12. We need people like Father Bwalya, 90% of Zambian are cowards and just complain and do nothing. As for the riots, take time to listen to international news and see what happen in Europe when people a not happy with something (even in South Africa or Thailand). In Zambia, we let these politicians to have it easy. we need uncorrupt or uncomprised NGO like Change Life Zambia. If Change Life was owned by some failurer guy (like BIGOGA), MMD could have bought him off. For MMD its ok for BIGOGA to support them. Google on Andry Nirina Rajoelina and ACORN
