Sata claim shocking, says Levy’s daughter

Share

LATE President Levy Mwanawasa’s first born daughter Mirriam Mwanawasa has said it is shocking that Patriotic Front (PF) leader Michael Sata can claim that her father’s decision to evacuate him to South Africa for treatment was a mere public relations (PR) gimmick.

Ms Mwanawasa said in Ndola yesterday that it was not right for Mr Sata to have pretended that he had reconciled with her father and start attacking him now that he was dead.

She said Mr Sata who was on record saying he had appreciated Dr Mwanawasa’s gesture, should realise that the u-turn he had now made was a very bad example to the upcoming generation.

“Such a u-turn is shocking and regrettable as it is giving a very bad example to the upcoming generation. Mr Sata had publicly appreciated the gesture by the big man and for him to now turn around and state that it was just mere public relations my father wanted to play, is a very sad development and I wish he had the courage to tell him that before he died,” she said.

She said Mr Sata should apologise both to God and the Zambian people because what he had done was a sin.
She said it was actually shameful for Mr Sata to be so inconsistent.

“I just pray for Mr Sata’s deliverance because such utterances can only come from a person possessed with a demon. Whatever good the late president did to Mr Sata during the time of the PF leader’s need was wholehearted and for God’s glory and it is quite common that what Mr Sata has engaged in, is spiritual battle. The devil has led Mr Sata into forgetting easily.

“It is actually shameful for him to make such a statement. Mr Sata should have been brave to tell my father what he is saying today. He should not have pretended to have reconciled with my father and start attacking him now just because he is no more. Let Mr Sata leave my father to rest in peace,” she said.

She said she would not judge Mr Sata but would only pray for his salvation for ‘all had sinned and fallen short of the glory of God’.

She called for peace and unity in Zambia as a Christian nation and urged people to remain true to each other and avoid cheap politics whenever the country approached general elections.

Former special assistant to the president on policy implementation Jack Kalala said yesterday that he would today issue a statement over Mr Sata’s remarks.

And Leadership in Development Executive Director Moses Kalonde said Mr Sata had continued to lose political direction hence his resort to attacking the dead.

Mr Kalonde said Mr Sata had shown the Zambians the level of his ingratitude by stating that Dr Mwanawasa’s decision to evacuate him to South Africa was mere PR.

“The late president never considered Mr Sata as his political enemy when he decided to evacuate him to South Africa. That was a gesture from deep down Dr Mwanawasa’s heart, which Mr Sata should appreciate. Really this man does not appreciate,” Mr Kalonde said.

He said even the statement stating that he regretted having served under second Republican president Frederick Chiluba’s Government just went to show that he regretted having served Zambians.

  1. If Mr Sata really said that then the man needs his brain examined, but i have a problem with the source Times of zambia, thats a propaganda media:o:o:o:o:o:o:o

  2. Kalos2000,

What say you? Pretense aside bola yakosa the giant has been awakened by Rupiah’s politics. Our nightmare is getting worse every day with our embattled Presido Sata sinking deeper and deeper while HH is looking like a fanatical i-d-i-o-t. Now Mirriam Mwanawasa doubt President Sata’ sanity and declares him demon possed that needs prayers than leadership.Which voter on the ECZ register would go for a demon possed candidate for President??????

  3. And the PACT troubles continues. How can HH win Northwestern when his own village is deserting him?

    Chief Singani backs RB’s Govt

CHIEF Singani of the Tonga people of Choma District has declared his support for President Rupiah Banda’s Government saying his chiefdom has witnessed various development projects which have helped alleviate the sufferings of his subjects.

Chief Singani said he would work with the Government to ensure that more projects were initiated in his chiefdom.

Speaking at his palace in Choma when Southern Province Permanent Secretary Gladys Kristafor paid a courtesy call on him, the chief said President Banda’s Government was responding very well to the various development challenges in the area.

  4. “I want to work hand in hand with the Government. I don’t care what people say if I support the Government especially that of President Banda,” he said.

He condemned politics of insults saying people in Zambia should focus their energies at finding solutions to the many problems the people were faced with.

Chief Singani said he was positive that the new appointment of Ms Kristafor as Southern Province Permanent Secretary would add impetus to the development agenda in the province.

Chief Singani said the people in his chiefdom were supplementing the Government efforts by teaming up and constructing community schools and health centres.

He said what was urgently required was the grading of the Masuku and Sikalongo roads which were not well done by the contractor who…

  5. He said the Government also needed to double efforts in the construction of deep tanks in his area so that cattle diseases were eradicated.

And Ms Kristafor said the Government appreciated the partnership it had continued to receive from the traditional leaders in Southern Province.

Ms Kristafor said she was happy to note that Chief Singani had a list of all the projects which were taking place in his chiefdom.

“We appreciate your wisdom and maturity. I am happy as the Permanent Secretary that you have an inventory of the projects in your area and you personally know what is happening,” she said. She said there were currently several projects which were being undertaken in Southern Province ranging from agriculture, education, tourism to Health.

  6. She said the Government had pumped in a lot of money in the Southern Province to uplift living standards of the people.

Ms Kristafor said the Government wanted to be in touch with the traditional leaders as they were close to the people especially in rural areas.

She said the Southern Province which was in the past prone to droughts was now experiencing a new challenge of floods.

She said at the end of the rainy season, the Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit (DMMU) under the office of the vice president and Rural Road Unit (RRU) would work together to rehabilitate all the structures that had been damaged as a result of heavy rains.

  7. For a long time, so many well meaning Zambians including Dr Kaunda who worked with the Serpent for almost 27 years, Dr Chiluba for 10 years, President Banda for 27 yrs and many more have told us this man can not make a good preisident. Honestly, his comments attacking the person who saved his life at a time when LPM can not respond to what he is being accused of is indeed a great sin. N’way, who knows? since it was also done by his brother in law “the owner of the Catholic Church- Bishop T Mpundu” anything one says about him and his family is against the catholic Chuch, so it could be that since it was done by the Bishop who also not too long ago talked about the Late LPM in bad way.
Sata is not only a bad example to the coming generation but also to the past and the present. He is…

  8. Mirriam i agree with 100% this man Sata is indeed the DEMON himself. Why fight the dead?Simple mind ,grade 2 iwe S.A.T.A.N.A

  9. Sata probe continues

GOVERNMENT says law enforcement agencies have summoned former freedom fighter Jackson Ngoma, who claimed to have shared prison cells with Patriotic Front (PF) president Michael Sata. Police will interview him over allegations that Mr Sata was imprisoned for breaking the law.

Minister of Home Affairs Lameck Mangani said the law enforcement officers are also investigating Mr Sata’s case by getting all the records at Bwana Mkubwa and Mukobeko prisons, to ascertain the crime which the PF leader allegedly committed.

“Investigations into this case have not been concluded because there is a new twist where a Mr Ngoma has come out to state that he was in the same prison cell with Mr Sata.

  10. There are new angles to this case, so those investigating want to ensure that they carry out a thorough investigation.

“If someone murdered somebody or stole, even if it was done 10 years or 20 years ago, they are guilty,” he said.

Mr Mangani said anyone who has been convicted before cannot rule Zambia.

Mr Mangani said it is morally wrong to allow any person who has been convicted to stand as presidential candidate.

“The law operates with morality. The moral aspect is very much applicable to law,” he said.

  11. Government instituted investigations into reports that Mr Sata was allegedly imprisoned for breaking the law.

Mr Ngoma, 77, the last district governor for Mambwe, said he shared the same prison cells with Mr Sata at Bwana Mkubwa and Mukobeko prisons in the early 1960s.

The former freedom fighter said he and other youths were rounded up for the role they played in the Cha Cha Cha uprising during the independence struggle.

  12. Mirriam, SATA has the spirity of a snake. If zambian peaple will make a mistake of choosing a snake it will bite us to death. For warned is for armed!

  13. Ms Mwanawasa, in the first instance, it was not the late Levy who paid for Sata to be evacuated to SA. It was the Zambian people. Instead of responding, maybe you could have maintained your family dignity by not making any statements. As it is, you will be bringing up issues that for your sake should be left behind. The truth is that we will never know the thinking of your late father when he made the decision to use taxpayers money to evacuate Mr Sata. On Mr Sata’s part, I am not sure what he was hoping to achieve by making public his beliefs and it shows poor judgement on his part. Please show restraint and us consign this sorry episode to history.

  14. Mirriam, are you responding because Sata is in the opposition? what about the many accusations and insults being levelled by some Ministers, even the president about your late father. Why have you not responded to that? Accusing your late father that he was corrupt is more damaging and serious than whether Sata appreciate the help your father gave? Or is it that the benefits will be withdrawn if you attack the Government. Condemn those attacking your late father accusing him of corruption, clear his name by denouncing such statements. Many people in life you help can choose to appreciate or not but not be indebted to your gesture because the real motive is known only between God and them.

  15. #16 Chama.
To start with,Mirriam was NEVER close to the father, back in the days, she was as troublesome as the late Castro Chiluba(FTJ’s son) so her father Levy almost considered her as an ‘outcast’ so to say as she brought him shame all the time.
If Levy Mwanawasa did ever get involved in corruption then he wouldn’t have been daft to do deals that any of his children would have known moreover none of them were really mature adults even by the time he died, the most sensible ones are the young girls who are in university now otherwise Mirriam the first born and Patrick the second were ”just another.”
By the way,the benefits you’re saying Mirriam is ”scared” of losing do not go to Mirriam, they are for the former first lady and the children she keeps, those who are under 18.

  16. And by the way it was the government of Zambia that paid for Mr sata to go to south Africa using tax payer’s money and not an individual.

  17. i thought age comes with responsibility and maturity, and as a zambian who know and respects culture you should know better that insulting the dead is a clear fact that you are not capable of leading a nation. why do you behave like a child? you should have told ba LEVY that statement before he left us, after being helped honestly is that all you can say? this statement has not hurt the family of mwanawasa only but the people who appriciated his good works and justice.

  18. # 14, well said. How can the Daughter know what the motive of the father was? unless she is telling us that the country was being run by the whole family. I can sense a conspiracy here. Here first Levy jnr wants to be an MP, Maureen publicly promotes MMD, now the young girl comes from the wood work claiming to know what her father’s motive was on Sata. This whole thing smells of a Government post for Maureen Mwanawasa after the elections.

  19. What is Leadership in Development? In Zambia, there are alot of ‘rent a quote’ organisations. Has Zambia got such paucity of intellectual reasoning and argument that you have to get a quote from anyone who is has a briefcase? Why do Zambians like such grand titles?

  20. Mrs. Mwanawasa has got intentions for high office hence the reason why she shows her face at MMD functions state house is sweet and for this Mirrian she is putting the family in the fire line for insults do not blame any one when they hit back. you had your time at state house accept it and keep quiet you will lose nothing.

  21. mwata who is insulting Banda? Questioning and constructive criticisizm is classified as insults to you. Our people are in poverty, roads full of potholes, no medicines and equipments in hospitals, our towns ravaged with old structures,we watch as our country get auctioned to tutemba investor, our sisters/brothers are paid peanuts. If things were right few Zambians would be in diaspora e.g Bots, where do you find them living their country in such numbers, even when sponsored for further studies, immediately they finnish, you see them heading back looking forward to being among their people, get a decent wage and be proud of there not corrupt government. while us Zambians will be finding ways to get permenant stay as you know back home the playing field is not levelled unless you are corrupt.

  22. I have not, todate written anything strongly against Mr Sata. But I just want to implore Zambians to be very careful at election time. This man is hell bent to get to plot One. He doesn’t even care about his own integrity and morals, let alone what people think. In fact, he has shown all the colors of a bad leader (dictator). He also must be a coward. He condemned KK while serving Chiluba, condemns Chiluba after serving him and now condemns Dr Mwanawasa after his death. Why didn’t he stand up then at all these times if he had Zambia at heart? He only has Plot One and himself at heart. Zambians, be wise and see.

  23. Sata ‘s mentor is Idia Mini, if you want this country to experience disaster then dont hesitate to vote for him.

  24. 8 What is your point? so far what do we have to show for by people condemning Sata. Apart from KK,let Chiluba point at something beneficial to the zambians, those houses were built by KK and the colonial, takes glory for nothing. Nearly every household has been corrupted and that was chiluba’s reign, yes democracy was coming, we all brought it,just appointed kafupi to be the Manager, instead of managing he looted and planted the seed as well. Sata might not be the answer but those characters can only be listened to if any other presidents have done better than KK. Let everyone get a chance. Why the desperation to stop Sata if he means nothing/has no support. Yes just like all of us we are not perfect, point the ministries he headed, he did wonders, yet you try to illude people of the…

  25. Mirriam Mwanawasa you had your time in State house, please let other pipo go in there also. We all know what Mummy is up to. She wants to be in Government so now she is using you. There are two people who know the truth about the evacuation of Sata to South Africa. one of them is Sata and the other is your Father. Unfortunately your dad is dead which leaves Mr Sata the sole person with details of what transpired. Like they say the dead dont tell no tales so the only version available is Mr Sata’s therefore we are inclined to believe him since there is no other side of the story

  26. Cool blogs. I can’t say much but the good fact is that we all don’t know the motive behind our late president like many other guys have said. well for me I would try Mr Sata for presidency i don’t why but I have a few reasons. I think among all cabinet Ministers, Mr Sata did a better Job ever. I have not matched Him with any minister since 1991. Under the local government if I remember well he brought sanity in Lusaka. people were afraid to liter and urinate on the streets. this man meant business not talking. Also when he was Minister of health who can be compared to Mr Sata? not even Prof Luo can match this grade two. the hospitals were clean places and the nurses were attending to the patients.
I think at the moment Zambia needs an action person and not people who just talk.

  27. Guys the suffering is too much in a country Blessed with fertile soils, fresh water, good rains and reach in minerals + tourism. Please my fellow Zambians what is wrong with us. For now let us not look at candidates that preach about unit without any form of action. Because with action hospitals will be built including roads, schools and a lot more things. I don’t know but my Choice in this Zambian political race is Mr Micheal Chilufya Sata. I believe if they can work together with HH Maybe things may work on our side as Zambians. twachula even being in diaspora it is shameful to see why we suffer when we have more than these developed nations.WE CAN DO IT THAT IS MY BELIEF ABOUT MY LOVELY COUNTRY> :d

  28. kk 11, cacine mudala, i think Sata may be the only hope for Zambia. As much as many dont like his ways, if he can bring civilisation and reduce poverty im all for him. I dont think we have a leader who has the heart of the country and is a hard worker. Its either you have globetrotters like RB, Chama Chakomboka’s like Miyanda, AIDS infected George Kunda, Confused Nawakwi’s.daydreamers like Elias chipimo and Sakwiba ,

  29. YOU CAN CALL SATA GRADE 6 POLICEMAN, THE MAN IS RICH. LIFE DOES DEPEND ON YOUR DEGREE OR PAPERS, GOD HOLDS OUR FUTURE IT DOES MATTER HOW FAR YOU HAVE GONE WITH YOUR EDUCATION, GOD CAN STILL BLESS YOU AND HAVE BETTER LIVE THAN PEOPLE WHO ARE EDUCATED. THIS IS THE PROBLEM WE HAVE IN ZAMBIA AND THATS WHY OUR COUNTRY WILL REMAIN POOR. GOD HELP US

  30. Mr Sata should appreciate what LPM did to him whether it was a mere PR or not the fact is that his life was saved.

  31. 30″ Now you are talking, Indeed we all know how lusaka and hospitals were, when sata was in charge. Let everyone tell us with, supported evidence that is visible to what and how their performed, not just singing songs and disillusioning people of development that is no were to be seen. Zambia needs an action man and very quickly. whoever it is Banda is not among them,it does not take a year to clean up lusaka, Sata didn’t within months. Chiluba knows the potential in Sata/and when he saw the popularity he was gaining regarding his ministral work,he dumped him at portfolio to keep him idle. Kafupi is a trickster that continues sowing the seed of corruption and encouraging the plunder of our motherland. Give people a good deal and you have nothing to wrong whether Sata is popular or not

  32. @ 30…its only true and realistic that we are suffering and we need a beter leadership, but we should also ask ourselves a question as Zambians what kind of leaders do we want? is it just action orientened, should leadres be morally upright, are they christians and many more others. In my view as electorates we should look at all these attributes then we will see a Zambia that will start ushering in leaders of high calliber. Beleive you me when foreigners look at our media day in day out it should be a very big joke magazine to them looking at the different petty and childish statements made by our leaders..its a dame shame and its nothing we can be proud of. Why cant we take a leaf from our neighbours in botswana who have no other words than development.LORD HELP US..!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  33. basata eh what has become of you now…the man wasmaking progress please..last minute isalwaysdangerous

  34. Mirriam shud her back nyelo off,,she did not here the big man said that but read it on times of zambia are not even worth to be a newspaper dealer..i shud think MMD directed that statement to Tines of zambia kaili they dogs always waiting for bones

  35. Miriam is a mentally DISTURBED WOMAN and i do not believe that she has the ability to make such a sensible statement. Having said that, she is a nonentity and does not warrant to have her comments in the news.

  36. Chiluba took Levy Mwanawasa to South Africa meanwhile Levy was planning to imprison the born again KAFUPI…. Politicians you cannot trust them. Kanshi ba Mirriam balitembenuka?

  37. some spirits are not worth playing with… especially that of Mwanawasa. Let’s be carefull what we say now that he is gone – especially if you know deep inside your heart that whatever you are saying now – you didnt say while he was alive… or had you been given a chance to say it to his face you were not going to say it. MWANAWASA still lives among us – beware.

  38. In Zambia respect is P1 even mental people are respected, Mirriam Mr SATA is more like your grand father, please my doughter learn to respect elderly people, Apoli ulefwaya money from your step mum,
first of all respect your mum just as you respected your late father then find a way of handling issues with her. please my Doughter if you want to stay long on Earth respect people, and you receive more blessings from above.
