The United National Independence Party (UNIP) says it will take part in the Milanzi Parliamentary by elections.
The party has also said that it will also participate in the eight Local Government by elections around the country as announced by the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ).

UNIP Chairperson for elections Andsen Banda said the party in line with its policy has mandated Local Committees where the by-elections will take place to receive applications from candidates interested in contesting.

In a statement made available to ZANIS in Lusaka today Mr. Banda said the adoption of candidates at primary elections is scheduled to take place on March 20, this year.

He said UNIP is ready for the by-elections and more than confident to retake the Milanzi seat which remains a UNIP stronghold.

“All the other political parties wanting to participate will only be escorting the UNIP candidate,” Mr. Banda said.

Meanwhile, Mr. Banda observed that much of the development in Milanzi that is visible was the one left by UNIP while current ongoing projects are the ones which were left by the late UNIP Member of Parliament (MP) for Milanzi Chosani Ndhovu.

And Mr. Banda said the party has also resolved to participate in the Mufumbwe Parliamentary by-elections once the ECZ sets up the date.

He however noted that it would have been better for the ECZ to set the same date for both Milanzi and Mufumbwe by-elections.

The Milanzi seat fell vacant following the death of MMD’s Reuben Banda while the seat for Mufumbwe fell vacant after the death of MMD’s Misheck Bonshe.

  1. This party is still around Kanshi? They should just merge with MMD after all MMD is led by a UNIP fella

  2. Why does UNIP want to contest the elections with two candidates? There is the UNIP (MMD) Faction and the UNIP (Tilyenji) Faction. Don’t confuse us please.

  3. Another MMD sponsored candidate in an effort to split the opposition votes and tip the elections in favour of MMD. Zambians are now aware of these tricks. Has VJ’s book of rigging tricks been exhausted for you guys to recycle the same tricks? Well it wont work. The only votes you will grap are those from MMD since MMD is UNIP

  4. UNIP and MMD have similar policies (spearheaded by William Banda) and right now they work together and cooperate on many issues and will ensure that the PF/ UPND pact stands no chance.

  5. UNIP SONG

Interim with the nation they know whats right
    vote for tomorrow today
brothers and sisters let us all unite
with the Party thats leading the way
    Do the right thing

  6. Dail 991 try to spit sense, your contributions on this blog are so detrimental, those are signs reflects your abused childhood.who did that to you?We are more than willing to help if you cooperate with us, it never too late

  7. This is a ploy by MMD to diffuse the fact that UNIP era is back through RB and William Banda’s Vigilante behaviour. MMD is paying for the UNIP elections but Zambians are not stupid to see beyond their noses.

  8. MMD IS UNIP
IS POWER IS POWER IS POWER
    UWAIKATAKO APYA!

    Vukani maZambia.

  9. PF is more similar to UNIP than MMD. In fact MMD is very opposite to UNIP. UNIP follows a socialist ideology that has failed world over whereas MMD follows a capitalist ideology which has brought prosperity to many nations in the world.

PF is a party that has been talking about nationalization. Nationalization was and probably still is a UNIP policy. A policy that failed the nation. MMD has been talking about private sector participation in the economy whereas PF has been singing nationalization and re-nationalization. How is MMD related to UNIP when their policies are totally different? In fact, UNIP is much closer to PF than MMD.

  11. Tiyenda Pamodzi ndi Mtima umoooo! One wonders what this son of Kaunda is thinking of, being president of a party and doing nothing to revive its lost glory. This is what I call “castrolization”. Just because his father was president the fool thinks he also has the right to be.

  12. This logo brings memories. I personally miss their campaingn songs like keep the flame burning. Anyone with a cassatte pliz . On the party to contest the milanzi i have no comment.

  13. This is a party that has be dragged to its grave by one of its founding fathers KK. Zim’s Zanu-PF will go the same road the way Mugabe is carrying on.

  14. Those old enough will recall that a FROG used to stand against KK in the presidential elections. Since it is time to get the Country together, why doesn’t UNIP field a FROG in the up-coming bye-elections?

  15. Aaaah, A tiyende Pamodzi Ndi Mtuma Umo achoka kuti? UNIP is around? A fosil has resurrected. Yaba 2011 iza wama.
