Zesco United head out to West Africa on Wednesday ahead of this weekend’s Caf Confederations Cup first round first leg match away to Warri Wolves of Nigeria.
The match will be played in the Niger Delta city of Warri on Sunday March 21 where Wolves are based.
Zesco where on bye from the preliminary stage of the tournament.
The Ndola will be hoping to repeat its form from the Champions League where, last year, they became the first Zambia club to reach the group stage.
And in the Champions League, Zanaco’s opponents in the tournament ASEC Mimosa from Cote d’Ivoire are expected to arrive on Thursday.
Zanaco and ASEC’s first round, first leg match is scheduled to be played at Nkoloma Stadium in Lusaka on Saturday.
Good Luck baiche. Nigerians are longer a force to reckon with.
ZESCO and ZANACO FC are demeaning the importance of the local league. Arsenal, Barcelona, Man.U, CSK-Moscow, Chelsea, Real Madrid, to mention but a few, all participate in their local leaguez on Saturday/Sunday and go on to play Championz League the following Teusday/Wednesday without any fuss. And we expect to uplift the standard of local futbo, when ZANACO/ZESCO are “excused” by our mighty FAZ?
No 2 The Only Living Jay – to be fair to ZESCO and ZANACO all CAF competition games are played on a Friday, Monday or Sunday, unlike the UEFA competition games that are played during the working week. So it is not ZANACO, ZESCO or FAZ’s fault. It is CAF which determines when the games should be played. However, I share your sentiments and feel that the rules should be changed if only to reduce the backlog of unplayed local games especially if the two teams continue to do well in the CAF competitions. The downside however, is that weekday CAF games will mean reduced gatetakings.
Good pionts AREABOY#3. ZANACO and ZESCO did not fullfill the wk 1 fixture(13/03/10) becauze they were “preparing” for CAF gamez that are coming a week later(21/03/10). This in effect will mean the two teamz will miss 2fixturez in a raw. Everything being equal, they will again miss two fixtres when the return legs are played?
