HEALTH authorities at Chipata Clinic in Lusaka have told Health Minister Kapembwa
that they have not allowed any mother to carry a placenta after delivering at the institution.
Chipata Clinic Sister-in -charge Maureen Chola told Mr Simbao who toured Chipata and Matero clinics that although the incinerator was not working, arrangements had been made to incinerate at Matero Clinic.
Ms Chola, however, told the minister that the incinerator was being worked on and was expected to be operational by today.

Mr Simbao who was on a fact-finding mission to check on Ms Nawakwi’s allegation that mothers who delivered at Chipata clinic were made to carry their placenta because the incinerator was not working.
Mr Simbao wondered how Ms Nawakwi could allege that mothers were made to carry placentas to their homes when she could not even identify any such mother.
The Government had been replacing old incinerators at clinics and hospitals if it was discovered that the facilities were too old.
He challenged the FDD leader to come out in the open and show the country which woman had carried a placenta to her home.
He said the Government was working hard to improve the health sector by upgrading clinics into hospitals.
The minister also checked progress at the Lusaka Hospital at Chainama Hills College, which is being constructed and said he was impressed with the progress of the works.
He said he was happy with the on going construction works at the hospital because the contractor was on schedule and was expected to complete the works by the end of the year.
The hospital is being constructed with the assistance of the Chinese government and would help decongest the University Teaching Hospital (UTH).
And Chinama Hospital executive director Wallen Chilengwe said the hospital once completed would have 200 wards that would go a long way in providing bed spaces for patients.
Dr Chilengwe said Lusaka Hospital would be a phase two hospital while all clinics in Lusaka townships would be upgraded to phase one hospitals.
UTH spokesperson Pauline Mbangweta has said the hospital is better as compared to the state it was in a few years ago and commended the Government for the support it has continued to provide.
Ms Mbangweta said contrary to insinuations, the hospital had continued to strive to improve its services to the public and urged people who may be aggrieved to use proper channels of airing their views instead of generalising matters.
In an interview in Lusaka yesterday, Ms Mbangweta said that hospital was better because the Government had brought in state-of-the-art equipment to assist diagnosing certain illnesses.
She called on people with concerns to consult with the public relations unit at the hospital instead of rushing to the media.
Service delivery in public hospitals is so poor i wouldn’t give a doubt that it actually happens that they ask the women to take the after birth.
And that nurse looks really good,wish she could provide the service that they take the vows on
Why don’t people learn to just accept when something is true? Hospitals in zambia are really in bad situation, so what is thismbangweta talking about?

Fact is the incinerator is not working,no need to go fish out mothers who carried placentas in buckets,would the authorities at the clinic agree to such an accusation,come out in the media or in front of the minister and say yes we send them home with buckets of worst,

2 Musukuma PF cadre, to simply the English for you Mbangweta is just saying that things are better than they were a few years ago. Things are not as good as we all want (and GRZ has not hidden that fact) but they ARE CERTAINLY BETTER AND IMPROVING. On the other hand ba PF have you forgotten that not so long ago you campaigned for donors to withhold all funding to our health sector? What Nawakwi said could have been true if it was not for the hard work and determination of Hon Simbao and RBs government.
Nawakwi has been challenged by Hon Simbao to show us any woman who had to carry her placenta home after delivery. Typical of our opposition leaders they will move on to another senseless allegation. If what Nawakwi said was true the pictures would have been splashed on Muvi, or better still she would have called upon her PF allies and the Post to perform another Kabwela.
By the way bloggers, when you wake up in the morning you will find that the PF has changed its name back to Bemba Front (BF). It is understood that this was the original name, but they quickly realised that short of anarchy the Bemba vote would not be enough to win control, so they replaced the B with a P in order to hoodwink the rest of the tribes. Its clear that Nawakwi said the truth. Any sincere person with even one brain cell can see this. The machine is NOT working. Simbao has been told in the face. But this is an understatement, the truth is its NOT there. Shame, they have failed to say for how long has it NOT being working. How many Vehices does Chipata clinic have? Zero! So how do they take the placentas to Matero? Stop lying!
:d We all know Zambian politics. The situation is actually worse than potrayed but because they heard that the minister was coming, a few touch ups were made to make the clinic look better. I can bet any one on the blog that the incinerator will not be working by next week this is all politics. The only time it will work is when the elections are near, for now women will be taking the placenta home, unless Kabwela and the post can do their thing again
Which sensible nurse-in charge would say Yes mr. minister I send mother’s back home with their ntwanikane. Its not possible becasue they are afraid of being fired!
That Sister-In-Charge was saying all those things to protect her job. How do you expect her to tell Kapembwa Simbao that yes we give mothers their plancentas to carry home? She could be fired just there!!

8 Ba Musukuma, I am also talking about hospitals and telling you that we all accept that hospitals in Zambia are not in good condition. But speaking from experience (I have been admitted to UTH myself several times in the past, and so have my relations and friends), I am simply agreeing with Pauline Mbangweta that the hospital is now better than in the past. Not good but better and much more needs to be done. What I do not agree with is this sensationalising by Nawakwi and similar ilk that people are dying like flies at the UTH filter clinic “every minute”. Cheap plitics.
Kakolwe at #5, you know Nawakwi will not go and bring any woman who was given a placenta to take home. This will cause the beuatiful Nurse at Chipata Clinic to be fired. However, if Kapembwa Simbao still insists, let him sue Nawakwi, and you will a pandora’s box being opened.
