Government’s inaction against erring public officers diluting the AG’s report

Share

The Zambia Union of Financial Institutions and Allied Workers (ZUFIAW) says government’s inaction against erring public officers named in the Auditor Generals reports is beginning to dilute the credibility of the fight against corruption.

ZUFIAW president, Cephus Mukuka observes that it is very disheartening that even after the unearthing of the K27 billion scandals in the ministry of health, government is still reluctant in tackling corruption.

[pullquote]He says government should be seen to be taking action and not merely making political pronouncements on the fight against corruption.[/pullquote]

He says government should realize that such acts have the capacity to undermine the fight against corruption. He says government should be seen to be taking action and not merely making political pronouncements on the fight against corruption.

Mr Mukuka has also called on government to ensure that law enforcement agencies are capacitated and fully equipped with modern technologies in fighting corruption.

Meanwhile, Mr. Mukuka has challenged government to ensure that the 5.7 million pounds made available by the British government towards the implementation of the anti corruption policy is prudently utilized.

What do you expect in a country where all the power is concentrated in the presidency of the ruling party? This dominance only to hinders the accountability of important government branches like the law enforcement authorities. The opposition must come alive or else corruption will never cease!

  5. Just checking to see if someone else has heard about the death of Augustine Lungu of the MUVITV fame?

  6. People of Zed cant you see that the Government just conduct all these audits fot PROPAGANDA. How come all the audits come after reshuffles?? Lets think. They are all the same from the auditor herself to those who plunder the money

  7. Pardon my broken english in #4 “only hinders…” and not “only to hinders…”

  10. RB has just taken us back with his ties with Dr Kafupi the political scientist… We will never win. In fact Zambia is one of the countries on earth where it is easy to steal money from Government. All you need to do is cheka that’s it. How can billions of kwacha in imprest not be accounted for. Am supporting our Auditor General. How can an HR officer at Health ministry swindle over K10 billion & we only realise when the chap has built his lodge, bought luxurious cars etc…

  11. Thought the ACC had been restructured to provide for a unit to specialise in investigating and prosecuting matters arising from the AG reports if they are incapable to do so why not beef up the investigator generals office to give him teeth to prosecute all such crooks?
