Augustine Lungu on stage

Community Development Minister Michael Kaingu has described the death of renowned artist and MUVI Television Director of Programmes, Augustine Lungu, as a blow to the country’s entertainment industry.

Mr. Kaingu told MUVI TV news in Lusaka yesterday that the permanent absence of Mr. Lungu would be felt by the entire country. He advised artists not to relent but celebrate Mr. Lungu’s life by continuing his good work and achieving what he failed to achieve.

Mr. Lungu, 40, died on Friday in Lusaka after an illness. He is survived by a wife and three children. His burial has been set for Tuesday at Mutumbi cemetery in Chamba valley. His older brother, Kayola Mbevya said burial will be preceded by a Church service at Cathedral of the Holy Cross.

Meanwhile, the artistes’ send off ceremony which was expected to be held at Lusaka play house will not be conducted. Some artistes have continued sending messages of condolences on the demise of Mr. Lungu.

And Ready for Marriage season one winner, Josephine Tembo has described Mr. Lungu as a man who changed so many people’s lives through his works.

Meanwhile, late Republican President, Levy Mwanawasa’s son Patrick Mwanawasa has sent a message of condolences to the Lungu family and MUVI TV management. He said the Mwanawasa family is with the bereaved family during this trying period.

Mr. Mwanawasa said Mr. Lungu was an icon and an inspiration to the journalism profession. He has paid gratitude to the late Mr. Lungu for granting him an opportunity, through the interview on Matter at hand, to break onto the political arena.

  28. As we all wish Augustine Peace in his death Bed. It is important to recall that Augustine started his Acting at Chelston primary school, He was very instrumental of writing and coming up with Original Ideas at Kabulonga boys. I do not remember exactly how I mate him but the Arts Fraternity back in the days was one small neat circle. When I was doing my Grade 8 at Munali Boys he was finishing his last grade at Kabulonga boys. I mate him first during these Days at the Nataazi student festivals. Then He lived in Kaunda square and I lived in chudligh. we were cast together in a Play at Lusaka Play house called Mission to Kala. I was the Lead actor and He was the Second leading Actor. This was his Major play in adult theatre. And it was at this moment I spent countless hours in rehearsal and…

  32. i hope we wont have the usual speech of he was a good man, he is irreplaceable, bla bla bla. Its like only good people die, so does that mean those of us alive are bad people? It is time we Zambians started saying the truth about the departed. If he was not a good person say it or just skip that part. We are tired of lyonse he was this and that , when he was alive you never told him and he probably was as bad as they come

  34. Oh lord help us! Why do all the good things come to an end?Augastine,we will be greatly missed.Every time you opened your mouth you sent the entire nation rocking with laughters.Your charisma and work ethics were second to none.I know you are in the better place now and i hope you will open up the gate for me some time.Pass my candid regars to Tupac Shakur and Notorious B.I.G (Victims of drive-by shootings in 1996 and 1997 respectively)
