President Rupiah Banda defends his trips abroad

Share

President Rupiah Banda being interviewed by Namibia Broadcasting Corporation journalists at Hosea Kotako international airport. On his side is Namibia’s minister of agriculture John Mutorwa.

President RUPIAH BANDA says people who have continued to attack him over his visits to other countries are doing so out of ignorance.

The President says his meetings with other Heads of State are important especially in maintaining good neighbourliness.

He told ZANIS in NAMIBIA that the meetings are also used to explore new avenues for trade between countries.

President BANDA was in Namibia to attend the inauguration of HIFIKEPUNYE POHAMBA and Namibia’s 20th Indepedence anniversary celebrations.

He returned home last night.

And President BANDA has called for a speed agricultural revolution between Zambia and Namibia.

The President says some farmers in Namibia have expressed interest in joint agriculture ventures with Zambians in Western Province.

He said this is important because both countries have a lot to learn from each other.

Mr. BANDA told ZANIS in an interview in Namibia yesterday that Namibia is an important neighbor to Zambia because of the many common interests the two countries share.

[pullquote]He says it is disappointing that president Banda has decided to pay a blind eye to the various challenges the nation is facing and has instead focused on attending to every international event that comes up in his diary.[/pullquote]

Meanwhile, National Revolution Party (NGP) president, Cosmo Mumba has accused republican president, Rupiah Banda of turning his office into a tourism ministry.

Mr. Mumba says president Banda is failing to attend to pressing issues in the country because he is always traveling out of the country.

He says it is disappointing that president Banda has decided to pay a blind eye to the various challenges the nation is facing and has instead focused on attending to every international event that comes up in his diary.

He has challenged president Banda to attend the issue floods which has ravaged most parts of the country among other things.
Mr. Mumba adds that there is a serious increase in the level of unemployment and poverty in the country which also requires the president’s attention.

  1. Yama Banda, being a good neighbor does not mean always knocking at your neighbors doors. So, you are the only one who needs these neighbors but they don’t need you? Next time let them visit you. In the process of these visits, you will find Thandiwe visiting FTJ. I think by this time Banda must know Chiluba’s knack with women from Eastern Province.

  2. If it is to strengthen diplomatic ties and create trade avenues then surely the presidents working visits are most welcome. President Rupiah Banda made it very clear that Zambia is in a hurry to develop. Zambia is moving into an export oriented economy and for this to bear fruit, bureaucracies need to be cut.

Can we stop politicking for one second and let the President work. Already opportunities have been created between Zambia and Namibia in this trip as is evident from “The President says some farmers in Namibia have expressed interest in joint agriculture ventures with Zambians in Western Province.”. This will benefit the people of Western Province and Zambia in general.

  3. I think we missing the point, in this month (MARCH), Jacob Zuma has similarly been to England for a state visit, He has been to Zimbabwe, twice, Now he was in Namibia attending the inauguration ceremony of a neighbouring president. I think to ask Banda to sit down merely because you think he has travelled too much is not only very shallow reasoning but also a failure on your part as a patriotic Zambian to grasp the significance of a continued cordial relationship with other state, as we are a landlocked country. Even when your beloved Sata, Hakainde, Comos Banda, Nawakwi, Mwila, or Miyanda, or possibly Frank Bwalya become presidents, they will be expected to attend to these ceremonie, whose significance may seem meagre in your ignorant eyes. South African are not as petty as Zambians

  4. Good Evening

The last time I commented on this topic, my head was on the chopping board. So today I’m :-$

    And just 8->

  5. # 5 to begin with you have to differentiate the two countries. South Africa has the money for a head of state to move around as much as he wants, Zambia does not. Secondly South Africa is hosting the world cup, therefore the president had to make a trip to UK to assure the world of the safety concerns. Thirdly the trips to Zimbabwe are a mandate by SADC to resolve the Zimbabwe story. For your info the south African president is only in Namibia for a day while ours is there for 4 days. The main point here is delegation. RB must learn to let his deputy or ministers to attend to some of these things.

  6. The problem is that our people surrounding the president have not educated the president on the vital use if ICT to make contacts with other heads of state. He should discuss most of these issues with other heads of state using technology and not in hotels where there is more of a chat and chat than professional work. Every trip is inevitably a ceremony in Africa.

  7. #7 No Nine do not fear, if our greats like KK did not have courage, we would not be as free as we are today. Do not be intimidated by anyone, speak your mind, LT is a public forum, if people dont like it, its simple they can just scroll up, to the close portal and close the page, very simple, so my man let me hear what you have to say, have no fear be brave.

  8. Me Bra # 5, Jacob Zuma must travel to promote the 2010 world cup. We all know the security concerns of the world so he has to assure the world that it is safe. Regarding Zimbabwe , #8 Has answered you. The reason why RB is defending his trips is because he has seen something wrong with them so he is justifying. There alot of pressing issues back home that the president needs to attend to. Look at Zambia all our lives we have been good neighbours spending billions on liberating our neighbours when are Zambians ever gonna come first? Lets forget our neighbours for once and lets put Zambians first. Let the neighbours come visit us for a change

  9. #8 In one comment you are confusing yourself, in one line you say South africa and Zambia cannot be compared, yet in the next sentence you compare Zuma’s stay to RB’s in Namibia. Could it be possible that Zuma and RB had different agenda’s for travelling to Namibia. You clarify Zuma’s travel based on his poistion or mandate to resolve Zimbabwe issue, yet when RB travels to Malawi to have talks with his counterparts in his position as chairman for security, you are up in arms. If unfortunately I was not clear with my post, what I intended to educate minds like yours is that think beyond looking for mere political mileage, and remember that Zambia as a landlocked country we cannot stand on our own, we need these relations, and who can best save those relatiosn than the head himself.

  10. #11 Zonda you’re perfectly right and thanks for the encouraging words. Actually all I have to say on this topic can still be read on the “RB off to Namibia thread”. For today, I will try not to create discord and disharmony on the site through my controversial viewpoints.

  11. #14, understood. I will look up your comment on the other thread to understand where you are coming from.

  12. That is why we embassies and ministers. He even lies with no shame. Point to any concrete evidence that your tourism has resulted in reduced poverty. There also phones you know.

  13. # 13 my point is despite South Africa Having the resources the president only stayed for a day. Try and debate with facts, RB went to Malawi to inspect chinese run projects and nothing to do with SADC security mandate. Being landlocked does not mean you travel the world. How many leaders have come to Zambia since RB became president and how many trips has RB made? Compare the two and then look at the sums

  14. well said number 12, Zambia has about 8 neighbours , We liberated them so they should be paying homage to Zambia for being a father figure not us going to them. When is the time for Zambians ever going to come.

  15. Blogger # 3 … Mr. Capitalist (aka NM?): Does Zambia really Namibian farmers to form joint ventures with Zambian farmers? And what investors are there in Namibia? Is this how low a country can become? We have foreign missions and ministers who can attend to issues of investment and good neighbourliness …

  16. RB really i just do not understand why you want to defend yourself cos u r indeed John walker of Zambia.2011 kuya bebele Ba MMD NA RB NI RED CARD.

  17. We need to prove we can provide a good platform for business ( electricity supply , roads , civic amenities) , before we rush out to woo investors. Otherwise we just look silly without basic infrastructure .

    …….Not to mention ongoing floods , dissent ……red tape…., ..theft…….

  18. # 19 thats a good point, Namibians are not known to be good farmers, why do we always look to foreigners to save us. Govt should just provide incentives to farmers and they will be no need to have fake joint ventures with foreigners. No sane Zambian will support wastage of our resources by careless globe trotting old man who has nothing to lose. Come next year i will be the first to cast my vote against this Foreigner. He needs to go back to the village but his wife can stay in town

  19. #17, I think I already answered your question above, and you requesting that I debate with facts, when it seems you are misinformed on RB’s travel, makes very sad reading, and makes me question the nature of the character am having this convesration with. I possed a question for you in #13, you still have not answered me. When you have answered my question, you will find that our continued conversation is a sheer waste of time, and blogging space, especially when you raise questions like the one you have raised in 17. I mean now you want to compare trips to visitors. This is the pettiness of Zambians that I refered to earlier on, ever looking for an opportunity to score political mileage. I will say it once, answer my question and you will find that all your petty questiosn will fall…

  20. So what is the role of trade attaches and ambassadors/high commisioners? I thought they were responsible for negotiating trade issues and hamonising relations between nations. It seems to me RB is hijacking their role. I think RB still thinks he is an ambassador or probably he enjoyed his role soo much that his mindset is still engraved in it. Numerous presidential trips with large deligations are a drain to the nations resources. If RB has important issues to discuss with fellow leaders why not use video conferencing.

  21. Zonda Uzalema, if your question is about different agendas for the two president’s visit to Nambia the answer is yes. South Africa and Zambia are two different countries so obviously relationship levels are different. on the the visit to Malawi, RB himself is on record as saying he went to inspect chinese run projects in Malawi. There is nothing petty about taking to task an elected leader who the electorate think is not serving. You should know very well that Jacob Zuma was taken to task for a private family matter recently, what can be petty about us complaining that our leader is spending too muchtime out of the country and it is costing the taxpayer

  22. Read the presidents statement. It says they have an interest. It is upto the Western Province to accept the joint ventures or not. No one is forcing them.

“And what investors are there in Namibia”

    Elaborate more on this question.

“We have foreign missions and ministers who can attend to issues of investment and good neighbourliness

Which is why the President most of the time goes with his ministers. If he has been invited, you cannot just expect him to say no.

  23. Mr Capitalist i wish i could follow what you are trying to say, but my understanding is that the president should only involved when the signing of the deal is to happen. He should not make trips on maybe they will or maybe they wont. Let the ministers do the negotiations and when the deal is certain the president can come in the picture. What sort of a president cant say no. Thats gross negligence. How can he spend millions when he can simply say no and use that money to build drainage systems in Lusaka

  24. what weight does it carry for rb to inspect chinese projects in malawi while the his chinese projects at hme are laying domant?wat is the purpose of having diplomats when rb is doing their jobs?3 trip in less than 10 days, its too much.
he should go and inspect the stadium in ndola.

  25. Mr President we have pressing issues at home that need your immidiate response like floods and other matters President Obama had to reschedule his trips just to see that the healthy care bill was passed and we have seen this with other leaders of other countries.

  26. This is why we are wallowing in poverty. We are suckers! RB says, the Namibians are coming to teach us to farm and we are happy. Where is the detail?? What are they going to farm?? Who are they?? This small statement is used to justify a trip that must have cost upwards of $50,000?? Come on.

Infact a large portion of Western Provice (Liuwa Plains National Park)has already been sold to ‘investors’, yet what development have we seen there?

  27. Interesting comments from bloggers so far. Collins Mbesuma, you have made a very strong case and have articulated the issues well. Its refreshing to read something that makes sense for a change. Maybe there is still hope for LT to redeem itself and have more constructive debate on more threads.

  28. Let him give us his employers report of what has come out of the trips so far. We want tangible results compared to what has gone under in terms of costs. And by the way, whats the point of having ministers around if the President is going to behave like a Jack of All Trades.

  29. For a country to maintain good neighbourliness, its people must be cared for not living in poverty as is the case with our country Zambia. Just like in a household, the head of the house wouldn’t spend most of the time pa Insaka or Ichibwanse chatting with neighbours and friends at the time when the family is failing to make ends meet. What sort of parent/head of the house would such a person be regarded??

  30. #14 Nacishiba nati lyashi lyapa mutima kwena naine ngakucincishako. Danke bruder.

RB heard our complaints about his unsupported travels 😕 Hope the pin has dropped!

  31. There was no need for RB to go to Ifwepakunyes inaugration, if Agriculture was the main reason for the trip, Minister of Agric should have gone by himself with his assistants whatever.

  32. The problems with Zambians is that you like talking without facts. How many of you even know the role of Foreign affairs minsister, the trade and industry Minister and how the executive president works with them? The China trip would have seen an advance party of these officials together with the Finance Minister and possibly BOZ governor to do the ground wotk before the President travelled. The president does NOT NEED to spend 10 days in a Foreign Country. That is NOT acceptable. Delegation is one aspect of a leader and that should be clearly defined. Pressidents attend to specific asisignments and embrace occassions that usually don’t last more than two days. Are we afraid of monkeys at our lovely state house? Be serious these trips are very costly and NOtas rewarding as we are told.

  33. The Namibian trip with KK was fine by me. It was an occasssion for that Country to honour our Man for his contribution to the liberation struggle and that is important. I don’t see any problems with that and the short stay was just about right.

  34. we don’t know how leaders operate and only KK and late Levy knew the role of leadership. But Kafupi was the worst character in our leadership ladder. Send Kafupui to hell soon and the country will be on course. Mazoka would have moved the country miles but Kafyupi for his own pride made sure that Mazoka never took over powerm from him. We nearly plunged the Country into chaos because Mazoka had won hands down but Kafupi and his arrogance wanted his way at all costs. Nothing against Levy but Kafupi must pay for his criminal acts and that NO tricks should save that scally wag. He jsut needs total punishment and let him learn to respect others.

  35. It is so painful and indeed sickening to see quick and clever Zambians degenerate into simple and directionless individuals by becoming stupidly blind over RB’s intercontinental maneuvers. Should it take men of old to resurface and talk about this issue? These trips are TOO MUCH Mwebantu imwe our country URGENTLY requires the services of its elected leader. We need RB home to sail the ship.
Finshi fibaba kanshi mu Zambia efyo teti mwikalile – What is itchy about Zambia Mr. President?

  36. They showed RB a Red Card even in Namibia thats why he cut his trip – The Mic is Red. Red campaign againts RB is now international.

  37. RB should show more compassion for the Zambian people he claims he is governing. The money spent on his trip to China alone is enough to build two clinics in rural districts with no such facilities. Zambians from various corners of the country have been affected severely by the floods instead of him putting his political differences with the opposition & call for a concerted effort to tackle floods he is busy touring. #3 & #26 Mr Capitalist am not surprised about your support for RB. You’re where you are because you & your relatives are benefiting from MMD being in power. Another hypocrite is MMD Chief Bootlicker a blind follower who does not see that kuyabebele for RB & his adopted party.

  38. This man should copy what Obama is doing. When the house is on fire he stays to rescue his pple. but our own goes out:o

  39. Your Execellency, this is for the Secretary to Cabinet to make such pronouncements and not yourself. How come you are the Jury and Judge? Let other pipo speak for you. In the end Auditor General will come up with huge figures of unretired imprest because of these unplanned trips. RB, donot allow a situation where there will be 12 presidential candidates because of your lavish expending and roamntic trips to the entire globe. Remember some of the Presidents you visit are much younger than yourself and one day they will admire your wife for some ..X.Careful old man.

  40. We can understand a trip to china can bring investments but a trip to our 8 neighbours can only bring about SMUGGLERS! So be careful who you call investors! Felix Mutati can be used in that coz he wants to lecture!

  41. Banda is turning out to be a very painful living nightmare, and this is a man who was once Zambia’s permanent representative at the UN, was once minister of foreign affairs, LUDC Governor and NAMBOARD CEO. Just imagine the trail of damage he did along the way and what a tragedy that we being the fools that we are allowed him in that strategic position that landed him in the top post! We are truly a laughing stoke of the region.

  42. We must learn how to protect our own industries from foreign competition not just all the time inviting Investors – Simple Economics!

  43. Im shocked @#3 Mr Capitalist saying ‘let the presidednt work” when he is busy flying around doing his neighborly visitations and @Zonda Uzalema who says its shallow for any meaningful patriotic zambian to criticize the president’s habitual visitations. Have you analyzed anything developmental on his reasons for his visits? He says “his meetings with other Heads of State are important in maintaining good neighbourliness”.what??good neighbourliness! then he says “the meetings are also used to explore new avenues for trade”.you mean he can’t use his economic advisors to study these countries for trade opportunities and report to him while he addresses issues of the Mazyopa settlement, Floods, poor health facilities like that child who died because there was no ambulance e.t.c.He…

  44. President Rupiah Banda being interviewed by Namibia Broadcasting Corporation journalists at Hosea Kotako international airport. On his side is Namibia’s minister of agriculture John Mutorwa.Imagine being asked that your people are complaining that you are a tourist! That question makes you answer a no or yes but if the answer is no you look where you are, if the answer is yes which can not be!

  45. Considering our cabinet ministers where Kaingu likens his relationship with Kamwendo Munjila to that of a dog and its master and the other minister fimo fimo thinks Andrew Banda is Jesus, Banda GOD and ministers as earthlings, one could not help but think of what an opposion leader in Nigeria had to say about the paralysis brought about the ongoing demising of President Umaru Yar’Adua, and quote “Lack of courage, flimsy loyalty and downright selfishness that eventually left the (cabinet) divided, thus paving the way for it to fall like a pack of cards.”

  46. Or really? Maintain good neighbourliness? And why are the other heads of state not visiting Zambia as often as this man visits them? And may I remind this man that his good neighbouliness is at our expense! So, if we are not interested in his so called neighbourliness but to instead concentrate on our problems, then that is what he should do. What losses would the nation have borne if he had skipped the Namibia trip? The Angolan guy didn’t go. Did you hear the Namibian president complaining about the lack of neighbourliness from Angola. And it is an insult to Zambians to accuse them of ignorance when we do not even know what you go to do on these visits. And may I ask why you cut short your visit if it was as necessary as you claim it to be? Dumba55!

  47. Be it in Uganda, Rwanda, Malawi or now Namibia where he was seen off by minister of agriculture John Mutorwa (my former classmate at the Namibian Institute in Lusaka), Banda is always received and seen off by junior ministers. This is because everybody is sick and tired of this Kamwendo Munjila, chila bishiku na akasubo lyonse akakulu kali unshila! It was embarrassing enough that he bared his gray haired stomach before children in Swaziland but to keep on wasting our money on useless trips is treasonable.

  48. Baised bloggers to hell with your critisms. Banda geniusness has brought about stability in the economy. Assuming Sata or Ka HH were presidents-God forbid- the ZAMBIAN ECONOMY would have gone to the dogs. Chinese investors have managed to sustain the mines due to good fiscal policies during the global crunch. Chinese trip is necessary so is the Malawi one coz RB went for consultation with AU Chairman and RB is chairman of the Great Lakes Region. The Namibian trip is also very necessary. You cannot turn down an invitation for you friend’s inaguration. Sata on this score had earmarked his inaguration to be at independence stadium meaning that he was going to call every president in the world to attend including Taiwaneese and Mynmar leaders . What a shame to all you baised bloggers.

  49. ok, we all agree that RB is a clueless m.o.r.o.n, stubborn, proud for nothing, big headed and just generally dull. wats scary now is the alleged alternatives (HH, SATA) are starting to show the same degenarative kind of traits. Sata am not so shocked coz i have never wanted that dude for president EVER, but HH, i had high hopes for. New kid on the block is Mutati but we all know wats gonna happen to him once these praises about his professionalism etc continue. its just wild you’all.

  50. RB has two posts first bein the president and secondly he is foreign minister. Mr. Pande u r docile. Wake up n perform yo duties

  51. He gets respect out there and markets Zambia. Yet in Zambia, he is forced to deal with insults and unconstructive criticism. He might as well go out than stay in. Well done RB.

  52. Indonesian and Australian officials have expressed understanding after US President Barack Obama cancelled a much-anticipated visit to the region. Both countries and Guam had been due to host the US leader next week.
But Mr Obama postponed the visit to focus on the healthcare reform vote in Washington, and is now planning to come in June instead.
This is what I call leadership Mr. RB. Know when to say no to some visits.

  53. RB needs to improve on his PR. Even the visit to the flood victims was so hastily done and little kids could also see that was nothing but damage control. How a head of state could be out of the country for 10 solid days with a crisis loomind back home is absolutely beyond comprehension!! Just goes to show what a careless and insensitive govt the guy is running. No good, and I repeat no good at all could come out of such kind of leadership. And as if that was not enough, even before the engine of the plane had cooled, there he was again off to Malawi! Unbelievable…and now it was Namibia, after that its anybody’s guess. But this I am pretty sure of, before easter he will manage to squeeze two or three more trips. Indeed, you are what they say you are……Kamwendo munjila!

  54. This Kamwendo munjila, never ceases to travels. Who needs joint farms, not Zambians offcourse! Namibia has a dry and aried semi desert climate/enviroment. If you establish joint farms, they will only end up exporting beef, with no tax, ’cause you will have given the buggers tax concessions!.We have plenty of arable land, natural grazing lands and water, to carry out livestock farming on our own. What is lacking is political will to wipe livestock diseases and animal restocking. Try to stay at home. Zambians, see what happens when you put some one who has never spent most his life, 8 or more hours per day, behind a desk or in front of a PC. Its a shame and the excuse is parthetic. Spare us the grief! This man is exhibiting gross negligence and incompentence!

  55. Tourist Banda is damaging the office of the president. Why can he put his trousers down once? We are very unfortunate as a nation to have such a leader. I would edge Zambians to continue showing him red cards.

  56. ..And to add misery to all this, why is it that its only you who has to travel to your neighbours? Why have we not heard, any so called neighbours’ heads of state come to Lusaka. What is also sickening is the length of these so called “visits”, without any agenda’. Just because they welcome you does not mean they want you. 10 days here, 4 days there. Please, come on, you are an old man! Get down to seroius business, time for school boy planks is long over. Its time to handle real issues back home, and not playing father xmas! Politics is not childs play! Its seroius business, and if you are not prepared please step aside, and let MEN with stamina show you how its done. I bet the Namibians chased you, LOL! Its a total shame! The invitations you receive should be ignored. Atend to…

  57. Thanks RB for explaining your trips to Zambians. For us who are seeing fruits of your trip, we really appreciate your good governance His Excellency. Please keep it up

  58. …Attend the flood situation and to the suffering flood victims! Aimless Globe trotting, will only earn you disrespect. Look at what young Cosmo and Nawakwi are saying! Next there will be water borne diseases and famine due to demaged crops! Prepare for these for you have been fore warned!

  59. RB is just making his allowances knowing that his term is short. Has anyone bothered to find out how much is getting from these trips? We re lucky he is not carrying his young wife along like the other dull Jacob Zuma who travels with three wives and has tripped government expenses. White people run SA cheaper than these guys.
We have diplomats in these countries, we also have Ministers representing various Ministries who can make such trips. This is 2010 with a lot much cheaper facilities like email, chat video conferencing, that RB can use instead of travelling. Obama travels less cause he uses these facilities.

  60. It just p*sses me off that my hard earned tax money is being forked out to sponsor these utterly useless trips which yield nothing but headlines in the papers. The guy knows that he doesnt stand a snow ball’s chance in hell of winning the next elections and is using the remainder of his tenure to sight see. If anyone can show me what positive results he’s yielded from these inane state visits and i’ll show you a legitimate Chinese investor:-w

  61. #31. am also wondering where WALAI is. i like his crazy comments!

no comments on RB this time. we have said enough…

  62. Is there anybody blogging that can give us a sense as to how many foregn trips were made by Chiluba and Mwanawasa in thier first 17 months in office? I really think that it could give all of us a very good sense of what to and not what to critise about RBs first 17 months in office. Not that Chiluba and LPM are the standard but atleast they can provide some kind of benchmark on which we can all see how much deviation there is from other former office bearers.

  63. ake it or leave we have good diplomatic ties with alot of countries. Why cant RB use his diplomats to attend to little known talks on his behalf. Hope he has not renewed his passport four times since he got into power. I do not appreciate his visits. Teti wasanga ichalo pali poka abena captain solo….Tata shi ikaleniko pansi twapapata

  64. Our master of the air!next its libya to see how desert farming is done, then DRC to promote culture by watching the rhumba dancing queens there!RB is out of touch with reality in Zambia hence his aimless travels.!0days in china, 2days in malawi and 4days in namibia. Thats 16days out of 31days in march visiting other countries! The Challenger will be up in the air, very soon, watch this space.

  65. Has this chap got a problem with deligation??? to minimise costs then we should request that he fires his ministers so he can everything by himself. becouse these honestly no need of having them. He is the president at the same time minister of tourism, Agriculture, finance etc. WTF:o

  66. @57 Alinaswe..really disappointed with you to hear that genuine patriotic zambians criticizing Banda to you should just go to hell. i doubt whether you are really a true zambian or just trying to annoy the already fade up true zambians who bleed in their hearts to see so much lack of seriousness in a man we have put as president. Do you know that whilist he continue travelling more and more plunder is taking place…K445Billion from ministries unretired..what has he said? Nothing. He is busy travelling. Has he apologised to the people of Misisi compound, Chawama, Kanyama, kamwala e.t.c for the floods later on, even unveiling a plan for the victims (and i mean not tents)?Shame together with your RB. Its RED CARD now!!!!

  67. Ba ala bee, sure is it the great trek or Mfekane,i gues Mfekane will do because the president is running away from the wars coming in form Floods, and other atrocities that we are facing in our country.
Bwezani stay home and keep the promise,Mwanawasa never used to move like this.2011 is taking long.

  68. ‘Don’t criticise blindly’
PRESIDENT Banda says those who have continued to attack him over his visits to other countries are doing so out of ignorance, reports the Zambia News and Information Services.

Mr Banda said meetings with other heads of state are important, especially in maintaining good neighbourliness.

The President also said the meetings are used to explore other avenues of trade among countries.

Mr Banda said there is need for Zambia to maintain cordial relations with surrounding neighbours if the country is to develop.

He said there is need for the region to pull together in addressing the various challenges it is faced with and that Zambia cannot afford to isolate herself from the rest of the region.

The President was speaking in an interview in…

  69. Bloggers all this information about RB is making me feel sick to the core. kansi that is the minister of Agriculture???? RB is so shallow. When KK was being invited by the likes of great leaders like Sadaam Hussein, eve he is going to see a minister in Namibia! atasse nafulwa nomba. This chap must sit his bu.tt dwn and address issues at home. next he will want to go to Mfuwe to rest because he has “travelled” too much! Watch this space.

  70. @Moderator, i concure and its Red Card all the way=d>. @57 ignorance is not bliss and Chinese investors didnt bail out our mines during the global crunch! Zambian miners died in an explosion at BIGRIMM run factory back in ’06 due to poor Health and Safety Regulations. Fast forward to Jun ’09 and RB awards NFCA a Chinese subsidiary of BIGRIMM to run Luanshya Copper mines over London LISTED Vendetta Resources which successfully runs Konkola Copper Mines. Which fiscal policies are you refering to Mr. Alinaswe (i work in the mining sector so i urge you to answer intelligeably). oh and FYI its BIASED and not BAISED=))

  71. My assessment is when Banda was a little boy, used to feed in neighbourhood thats why he is on endless tours looking for food.

  72. Marketing Zambia for what, the country is not for sale. Those who are selling the whole country to chinese will regrate when there is a change of leadership in 2011.

  73. Right now I’m watching live Obama about to sign the historic Health Reform Bill passed by Congress yesterday. How I wished I had a president so committed to national service, instead my president is busy planning his next foreign visit to be undertaken before the end of the week. It’s so painful!

  74. I find it so difficult to believe that our President believes in what he says. This is stone age way of doing things. What a mistake of a man!

  75. Staying home does not mean that a President is working and going abroad does not mean that he is not working. The issues that every country faces are not just local but the ramifications spread beyond our borders. Zambia is a landlocked country and its progress or demise depends upon our neighbours. If I analyse the President’s trips, I notice that he has over 90% of the time visited neighbours. He has been to USA (for UN general assembly) once, Italy (for FAO and in transit) once, China once and Libya twice, Ethiopia once (for AU), Nigeria once and Kenya once. The rest of his trips have been to South Africa, Swaziland and our near neighbours. What is wrong with that? I would like him to go to Congo next.

  76. abantu baku zed u complain to much, honestly if u were president wouldnt u do the same, fimbi mwaikala fye**==>:/>:/>:/

  77. Malabishi of a President..Very embarrasing President..Why are we cursed with useless Politicians and Presidents..Maybe we are Malabishi also

  78. I have now since that this man is completely archaic and of no use whasoever. Since when can we learn from Namibia on how to farm? If he had said South Africa it could have made some sense. Now nothing about him makes sense. Zuma whom some people mentioned is actually in SA most of the time. This touring president we have with nothing to show for his countless trips indeed needs to be RED CARDED!

  79. Colleagues,

President Banda being received by a Minister is very normal on an occassion when there are several Heads of State arriving at different times. Such Ministers are known as Ministers of Honour. That is very normal. I am sure President Zuma was also recieved by Minister.
This is normal in foreign service arrangements. Please do not show too much ignorance of systems.

  80. President Banda’s trips just epitomise his luck of good judgement to spend so much money globe-trotting the universe using taxpayers’ money from an impoverished country such as ours. There are other more important local issues to attend to, such as the Lusaka floods and cholera epidemic. There are several cases against Banda which he will be held accountable for: 1. Not appealing against Chiluba’s acquittal, 2. Dissolution of Task Force and unwarranted dismissal of Nkole, 3. Zamtel-Dola privitisation saga, 4. Continued misuse of public funds on the unending so-called Constitution Review Indaba

  81. Could we as taxpayers have an account of how much money has been spent on these trips to justify himself(Ruphia) that is from Jet A 1(air gas) , air tickets, accommodation, we need to know!!!

  82. Many of your comments are just echoing the comments of our ignorant politicians in the weak opposition. I challenge any of you to draw up program or events just for one month that you think the presidents presence would make a difference. I personally think that our politicians really have nothing to real to talk about because the dont know anything. If I could also challenge these guys just for one month not mention Rupia but talk about solutions for Unemployment, Water and Sanitation , health policy ,education policy ,transport ,investment ,exports etc. you will find that no one will say anything the month will just go by quietly and we will go back to the saying that an empty can makes the most noise.

  83. Nice blog here! Also your site lots up very fast! What web host are you the use of? Can I am getting your associate hyperlink on your host? I desire my site loaded up as quickly as yours lol
