Expel Mpombo for taking part in Red Card campaign, Copperbelt MMD

Share

THE MMD on the Copperbelt has recommended that its national executive committee (NEC) expels former Minister of Defence George Mpombo for his decision to take part in the red card campaign against President Banda and Government.

But Mr Mpombo says he is not part of the red card campaign but will merely attend meetings of the organisers when invited.

MMD Copperbelt chairman Joseph Chilambwe said in an interview in Luanshya on Sunday that the ruling party has nothing to lose if it expels Mr Mpombo.

“I have already recommended that he should be expelled from the party. There is nothing we are pleading for. Our recommendation is to kick him out of the party. Let him join a political party of his choice or he should form his own political party,” Mr Chilambwe said.

He described Mr Mpombo as an ungrateful person who is now allegedly insulting President Banda and the MMD leadership who made him MP.

“The MMD has made Mr Mpombo what he is today and it is sad that he is now insulting President Banda and the party,” Mr Chilambwe said.

He wondered why Mr Mpombo is bitter when he resigned on his own from Government and also relinquished his position in the NEC.

Mr Chilambwe said it is unfortunate that Mr Mpombo now wants to destroy the MMD, which he wants to use to contest the party presidency.

“I don’t know why we are keeping Mr Mpombo. They should suspend him or expel him from the party because he is confusing us. He is not popular and there is nothing we are pleading for,” Mr Chilambwe said.

He advised the Patriotic Front to be wary of Mr Mpombo because the Kafulafuta member of Parliament allegedly insulted the United Party for National Development leadership when he resigned from the party to join the ruling MMD.

But Mr Mpombo said on Sunday that it is not a big deal for him if Mr Chilambwe has recommended his expulsion from the MMD.

He said Mr Chilambwe is not an elected provincial chairman and that he will always dance to the tune of the appointing authority.

He clarified that he is not a member of the red card campaign but that he would attend meetings when invited.

On Sunday, MMD spokesperson, Dora Siliya asked Mr Mpombo to resign from the party because his decision to join the red card campaign is evidence that he does not support the ruling party’s policies and programmes.

Ms Siliya said it is disappointing that Mr Mpombo has allowed himself to be used to allegedly create anarchy in the country through the red card campaign.

  1. The MMD has been torn apart seriously, mwebantu, its like the UNIP we knew. BA BAnda is getting share according to his dictates.

  2. So if these red card people can invite someone like Mpombo to there meetings have they actually considered inviting some from government like information minister or even a presidetial aids or perhaps the situation is so dare the president himself provided they dont just invite him to be insulted and belittle him since it has become common in Zambia to always want to insult people

  3. Does anyone know where Mulongoti is? He has been so quiet for a while, could it be that RB has given him a good telling off or is it because Dora has taken over the bla bla bla bla or is it because he has the contempt of court charge over his head?

  4. Is waiting for the right time, after Mufumbwe/Milanzi Elections but Patrick Mwanawasa will give him a problems there!

  5. You see Mr G Kunda should have been talking about confusion in his party instead of talking about the pact. Now things keep crumbling. They have been shielding the PF rebels and Chizhyuka now things have catapulted. Wow. And yes where is Mr Littele Twit (Mulongoti) as Mpombbo put it

  6. The health bill passed in a 219-212 vote after more than a year of bitter partisan debate. All 178 Republicans opposed it, along with 34 Democrats. From the democrats no one has called for the resignation of the 34 that opposed the bill. It’s important to note that individuals worldwide have divergent views. Am left wondering what would have happened had the 34 been Zambian politicians. Victimization, calls for resignation etc, you bloggers know the drill of Zambian politics…

  7. I cant believe am actually saying this but last time i checked Zambia is a free and democratic nation and if Mpombo wants to attend a red card meeting then he is well within his right to do so. I reckon his bone of contention is not with the MMD as a party per se but the leader heading it so all those cries to have him expelled from the MMD are all horse manure:-@

#7 At a Glance What you are saying is the principle the MMD was founded on. But unfortunately you can take an African out of the bush but you cant take the bush out of him. Sad but true.

  9. Mr Mpombo the twit, Mpombo is a headless fool who doesnt even need to be expelled by well meaning and hounourable members of MMD NEC. Mpombo resgned from as Minister of defence everyone is waiting to hear, why? He resined as a NEC official of MMD he dint give any reasons, After all this he has not made any impact, He want to find sympathysers in case he is jailed over the fraud case, it must look as if its his political opponents who want to get at him. I advise the MMD to concetrate on developmental issues and cast a blind eye on detructors like Mpombo who has no following. He will never make any political impact forget about him. Mpombo is a very dull old man who said he wanted to concentrated on studies after resigning from government, now are these the studies he was talking about…

  10. Thanks #7 for the actual numbers, i hope these self proclaimed lusaka democrats will learn something from states.

  11. If Mpombo iz expelled for supporting the red ribbon, then should we fear that thoze advocating for the white ribbon will disciplined az well?

  12. Why is Mr Mpombo making headlines it means he knows something we ordinary Zambians dont know about, coz if he was just useless they were going to kick him out of MMDogs along time ago. I have a feeling that balemutina umuguys.:-?:-?:-?:-?:-?:-?. Coz every one opposing AlaBee is kicked out quickly others are even in Jail, but why is Mpombo being spared. on the other hand its good for Us in opposition let them fight

  13. If Mpombo is Fired for asking Rb to go for the Convetion,or to be Democratic,I can’t see any reason why he should be Expelled. If MMD is democratic let it prove that they are in this matter.

  14. THE widow of Peterson Ngoma, the man Patriotic Front (PF) leader Michael Sata claims he was with in prison has said her late husband had never been jailed for any offence.

Mary Ngoma, 75 said she was aware that her husband was a freedom fighter who fought to liberate the nation from colonial bondage but was never jailed, as had been claimed by Mr Sata that he was his cellmate.

Mr Sata had denied ever being in jail with the last governor for Mambwe Boma during the UNIP era, Jackson Ngoma but claimed it was his brother Peterson who they shared a cell with. But Mrs Ngoma has denied the claims.

Jackson Ngoma, earlier in the month disclosed that he and Mr Sata shared cells at Bwana Mkubwa and Mukobeko prisons in the early 1960s.

Mr Ngoma even produced a certificate of release from…

  15. Mrs Ngoma challenged whoever claimed that her husband was ever convicted to ask her brothers-in-law, Jackson who was currently in Eastern Province and Basil now settled on a farm in Chilanga.

“My husband is not here to speak for himself that he was never jailed before but if there is anybody that thinks otherwise, let him ask his brothers, Jackson and Basil. These are the only surviving brothers from my husband’s family,” Ms Ngoma said.

  16. #19. That’s no story political campaigns to mudsling Sata period. As for Mpombo, this is what standing for a principle means. A lot of Zambians take these things personally. RB should know that running a country is different to manning his farm at Lundazi turnoff in Chipata. MMD is paying the price of bringing an outside to come & govern them. This is one of those de javu experiences reminiscent of 1991 when UNIP was falling apart but no one could tell KK that we were going to lose. MMD is wrangling & those like Shikapwasha, Mulongoti, Kaingu, Siliya & company are in denial…RB is happy for he has nothing to lose. These trips he is making are more personal than GRZ business. he knows he has to secure his future in 3-years & he doesn’t care who can blame him.

  17. Patrick Mwanawasa beating Mpombo! is that a joke! MMD has already settled for Eva Mwanawasa for Kafulafuta,Patrick should concetrate on growing up in the mean time than his usual rantings. The guy should find something meaningfull to do in his life

  18. MMD never ceases to amze me. They are full of small and little minded fellows who see publicity as a way of leadership. Any normal person knows that Mr. Mpombo was an NEC member and therefore very senior to all these minnows ranting about him. Don’t they know that only the national secretary is competent enough to deal with mr. Mpombo’s issue and I recall very well, he di say so several times. MMD start leadership development courses as a way of revamping the party and rebuilding it if you are to stand any chance of continuing in govt. Otherwise, let more credible people govern the Country and enjoy the development they will bring.

  19. MMD are a house divided against itself, thanx to the master and his dogs who have vowed to obey whatever command the master RB gives, be it good or bad.Mpombo resigned coz of the way MMD were governin the counrty. Unlike Kaingu, he is not a dog to be loyal even if what is being done is against the people!Abash blind and dog like loyalty!

  21. I do not know why most of you people fail to see what is stuck in Impombo’s throat. The man had looked around when RB became president and saw no one to for the position of vice president, but himself. So when Kunda was appointed,Mpombo lost appetite for grass anymore. How do you forget that he had said Mwanawasa had appointed him acting president before the president left for Egypt. That is the source of Impombo’s discontent….Now this mpombo I thought he had enough school. It was sad to read that he only has a diploma in…..what I do not know. Like namulambe. A certificate in local government administration……thanx to the Post for exposing these fellas. After they appeared in the paper some of them have now decided to remain mute .Talk namulambe.Tribalism can never be a qualification…

  22. FORMER Northern Province minister Clever Silavwe who is accused of six counts of theft by public servant and forgery yesterday took a fresh plea in a Lusaka magistrate’s court after the State added more counts. Before Magistrate Sharon Newa, Silavwe, 42, of plot 101 in Nakonde denied the charges that he allegedly committed between March 1 and August 30, 2005, in his capacity as provincial minister.
Mpombo is making noise hoping that when the charges of fraudulent acts involving receipts/invoices for accommodation are laid, all people will think RB is being petty. Mpombo knows that this time he is not surviving.

  23. #17, if RB can be President why not Mpombo? This is Zed. Then again, as someone said, the risk of democracy (especially majority rule) is that ANYONE can be President, even a fool.

  24. Inasmuch as I dislike RB, I see nothing in Mpombo to excite me. The man is against RB for selfish reasons and not out of principle. In their desperation for power the Pact and its supporters will embrace anyone and anything! If William Banda turned against RB he will become their hero and the Post will cover even his visit to the loo. How pathetic!

  25. “A test of your own medicine”haa!! Before spotting a TWIG in your brothers eye first remove the LOG in your eyes. Chiwamila garu kuluma mbuzi not mbuzi kuluma garu? MMD celebrated when PF rebel MP’s joined their rank and file in denouncing the PF leadership and its policies when they decided to attend the NCC and campaign for H.E Mr. Banda in the 2008 elections. If the MMD was a party of integrity WHY didn’t its leadership denounce and vomit the PF rebels? Mr. Mpombo hasnt even declared that he supports the PF leader or the PACT as the rebel MP’s have done. MMD should clean up their messed up house with a strong detergent of truth and integrity. The PACT is not any different from the MMD as they are cut from the same clothe of politics of character assassination and calumny. More…

  26. The dog-master relationship in mmd circles, does it ring a bell in someone’s head? No wonder ba Mpombo resigned.

  27. No. 17 chikhala
Leave lambas out of this. Just talk about Mpombo as an individual. Namuya sana. last time it was Findlay matako. leave us alone! I dont write n thin on this good for nothin blog of yours. Dont think I will see yo response.

  28. #29, That is why Democracy (simple majority rule) is the worst form of Government. Anyone can be anything as long as there is a simple majority. So your qualification and calibre do not count, as long as you can manage to have simple majority, even the calibre of people in this majority does not count. That goes on even into appointment to ministerial positions. today you could be minister of health, tomorrow Tourism, other day Mines, next Education, next Agriculture, next Finance as long as you can maintain the dog – master relationship we have been told about by Kaingu.

  29. Let Mpombo join the red card group, they are birds of the same feathers. They should be very happy to receive him.

  30. I think Mr Mpombo miscalculated – he must have had some false alliance that assured him that if he resigned there would be mass exodus and the Govt would crumble resulting in fresh elections. He resigned, there was no mass exodus, and the Govt ain’t crumbling and now he behaves like a rabid dog. He attends the Archbishop’s briefing – who ends up trashing the legacy. He joins the red flag campaign – a collection of stone throwing kaponyas. He tells lies about his “friend” Findlay through one Kabimba purportedly trashing the Lambas – Findlay comes out to say he has so many Lamba relatives such that the allegations just look damn silly. What next? Isn’t this enough circus already?

  31. Politics and intimidation and threatening don’t belong this era.RB get on to work and deliver on campaign promises instead of whitchman Mpombo. Show the people why they should give you another term. Critising the Opposition , the Catholics and the civil society won’t help you and mmd. Times have changed and therefore you should change with time. Stop harassing people who critisise you and mmd. Find out why are people talking so much? It’s the lies , double standards being applied in your ruling this nation. The problem with party cadres is that they can,t advise you .To them you are their bread winner whilst the masses in suffering. stop being a foreign based president and sort out problems at home. Zambians did not put you in office to be globe trotting.Critisism is part of mult…

  32. I am in agreement with # 39.MMD will destroy itself with its lukewarm approach to the problem of corruption; they are not serious and this can imply that they have a hidden agenda and I am almost at the verge of hating them. Why are they not acting on the auditors report? Why is the chief of police still working. And why is the law still soft on the offenders? In the case of defilers the law has been changed such that the minimum the guilty person can go in is 15 years.I propose that those found guilty of corruption must go in for not less than 20 year and there should be no bail for those in courts who are being tried for such offences. If the law is left like this then they are doing knowing that it is going to benefit them.MMD this is the major reason I think why people hate you.

  33. Mr.Mpombo is a great man who never wanted to play the Master / Dog game. He must be respected. Come 2011 when paliament is dissolved there will be massive resignations from the MMD. This is the real fact!
