THE Lunda and Kaonde people are annoyed with Patriotic Front (PF) president Michael Sata for going against tradition by touching the head of hospitalised Senior Chief Sailunga of the Lunda people of Mwinilunga.
Former national chairperson for the Lunda Cultural Association Newton Samakai said in a telephone interview from Lusaka that Lunda people throughout the country are upset by what Mr Sata did during his visit to the hospitalised chief.
And Solwezi District Nsakwa ya ba Kaonde cultural association vice-secretary Richard Mufwabule said in an interview in Solwezi on Friday that Kaonde-speaking people are unhappy with Mr Sata’s act.
They were reacting to a picture published in The Post newspaper on March 22, 2010 showing Mr Sata touching the head of Senior Chief Sailunga in bed at the University Teaching Hospital (UTH).
“As Kaonde people we have condemned the act by Patriotic Front leader Michael Sata for disrespectfully touching the head of the royal highness Senior Chief Sailunga, who is currently admitted to the UTH in Lusaka,” Mr Mufwabule said.
Mr Mufwabule said the condemned act is evident in the picture which shows Mr Sata unflinchingly and publicly touching the chief’s head.
He said although Mr Sata may want to portray himself as a good leader by visiting Senior Chief Sailunga, he was supposed to adhere to cultural norms.
“Mr Sata, like any other Zambian citizen, has the right to visit any hospitalised chief such as Senior Chief Sailunga but he must learn to value the type of behaviour and actions to apply when visiting dignified traditional leaders,” he said.
Mr Mufwabule said it was a well-known fact that it is taboo to touch the head of a chief of any tribe in the Bantu language fraternity.
“We urge all well-meaning Zambians and people of North-Western Province in particular to condemn Mr Sata’s behaviour as regards to Senior Chief Sailunga’s hospitalisation,” he said.
And Mr Samakai said it was also wrong for Mr Sata to visit the traditional leader tagging along a photographer to politicise and publicise the event.
“We thank him for visiting our chief but we are annoyed that he went to see a sick person carrying with him a cameraman to define his political mileage,” Mr Samakai said.
Mr Samakai said touching a chief’s head is taboo in the Lunda tradition.
“According to our Lunda culture, we don’t allow what Mr Sata did. In fact when a chief is sick only close relatives are aware of it and he must be kept outside the palace. It is just because of the modern situation that chiefs are taken to the hospital,” he said.
He said the Lunda Cultural Association committee chose to see Mr Sata before making a public reaction but the PF president is said to have told them to put their complaint in writing.
“Imagine the ache of the matter! For me that is unacceptable because he now wants the offended people to start dancing to his tune,” Mr Samakai said.
He advised all the annoyed Lunda people to remain calm as the cultural association is looking into the matter.
[Zambia Daily Mail]
Whats wrong with touching his head? The problem is that everything is politicised. What would happen if it was RB who touched him? Where these people going to condemn RB?
Too much politics in Zambia, every small thing is brown out proportional. I am very scared what will happen in 2011 elections. God serve Zambia
Sata like Hichilema who is on a an insulting spree of chiefs is not only uncultured but un informed of the Zambian traditions. In Mbeya, Tanzania his home village such taboos are norms of their society. What can you expect from uncultured person other than such taboos?
Sata like Hichilema who is on an insulting spree of chiefs is uncultured.
yaba..you learn something new everyday in Zed.Noone can touch his head? Not even his wife during issues of romance? ili tricky…as chief of my household I’ve also informed my wife that she cannot touch my head, only the royal barber (located pa market yapa corner) can do so.
Born and Bred on the Copperbelt , I did not know that touching somebody’s head was direspectiful . What happens if a Doctor wanted to examine this person’s head ? Do they have to go through some ritual ?
Was it going to be wrong (or call it what ever) if the chief’s head was touched by a doctor or nurse??
So the story is from Daily Mail, I will not waste time and energy on trivial matters!
TOO MUCH HATRED FOR SATA! THE HATE YOU CARRY FOR SATA IS MORE PAINFUL TO YOURSELVES THAN THE VERY PERSON I CAN ASSURE IF THAT MAN IS DESTINED TO RULE NONE OF THE SILLY CHILDISH PROPAGANDA TRICKS WILL STOP HIM IF YOU CANT DEFEAT HIM JUST JOIN HIM SIMPLE I SEE SOME OF YOU HAVE TAKEN IT TOO PERSONAL IS IT BECAUSE OF THOSE YOU KNOW WILL LOSE JOBS OR GO TO JAIL IF THAT MAN SATA TAKES OVER CHILL GIVE IT A FAIR PLAY AND NOT DIRTY PROPAGANDA IS WRONG GONE AND STOP PRACTICING THE HELL CHEAP DIRTY STINKING OLD POLITICS OF HATRED ITS BAD YOU BUILD NO ONE !:((;):o
Which they must be doing everyday when checking on the chief’s body temperature and during medical examinations. Then tell me, what is the difference??
National MMD card renewal exercise gains momentum
THE MMD membership renewal and recruitment drive gained momentum countrywide yesterday with hundreds of members re-affirming their commitment to the ruling party and scores of other citizens joining the fold.In Kitwe, Senior Chief Mushili’s son, Prince Robert, announced his resignation from the opposition United Party for National Development (UPND) and joined the MMD, saying that there is an imminent split in the alliance between the UPND and the Patriotic Front (PF).
And Vice-President George Kunda described as “provocative and annoying” an anti-government red card campaign that is being spearheaded by Change Life Zambia executive director Father Frank Bwalya.Prince Robert announced his resignation from the UPND during an MMD card renewal and recruitment rally at Kaunda Square in Kitwe yesterday.
He said opposition political parties have lamentably failed to offer genuine and sincere checks and balances to the government. He said people are disappointed that UPND president Hakainde Hichilema went into an alliance with the PF president Michael Sata.
Prince Robert said he wants to work with the MMD government because its leaders have proved that they are concerned with the welfare of the people in the country.
He said the MMD has demonstrated its commitment to addressing challenges facing the people, especially in rural areas.Prince Robert, who also pledged K1 million to the party on the Copperbelt, said he will work with President Banda to ensure that the MMD wins next year’s elections.
“Let us not cheat ourselves, people are suffering but the MMD has demonstrated its willingness to attend to the people’s problems. To every problem there is a solution and that is what the MMD is doing. The MMD is not practising politics of insults, it is addressing people’s needs,” he said.
Mr Kunda told hundreds of Copperbelt residents that the red card campaign is about violence and that it is aimed at disrupting peace in the country.“The red card campaign is provocative and annoying. It is aimed at diverting Government attention from attending to real issues affecting our people.“I know most of our supporters are annoyed because the Copperbelt Province is a fertile ground for the MMD,” Mr Kunda said.
He said the MMD is gaining ground on the Copperbelt and that the opposition political parties, especially the PF-UPND pact, will be crushed in next year’s general elections.
Mr Kunda said he was encouraged that when he arrived at the meeting he found people waving white cards, which symbolise peace. He warned that those that are promoting lawlessness and violence in various communities will be dealt with by the law.
“President Rupiah Banda stands for investment, development and progress. He is focused in his vision to develop the country. I have worked with President Banda, he works hard and he loves this country. Mr Michael Sata is a failure and Zambians have continued rejecting him.
“The miners that lost their jobs during the recession are being re-employed by various mining companies. Investment in the mining sector is still growing. Government is improving the lives of Zambians by creating jobs for them. Zambia is admired by foreigners because of the way the government is managing the affairs of the country,” he said.
Mr Kunda said investors from various parts of the world are investing in the country because of the good polices that the government is implementing.
He said the government is committed to developing the road infrastructure and that it had signed an agreement with the Japanese government to rehabilitate some roads in Ndola and Kitwe.
Mr Kunda said the government is taking development to all parts of the country, noting that hospitals, clinics and schools are being built in all the districts in Zambia. He said people throughout the country are either joining or rejoining the MMD because they are happy with development projects taking place in various parts of the country.
He said Zambians wanted to associate themselves with political parties such as the ruling MMD because of its commitment to addressing the welfare of the people.
“We are looking after your money very well. It takes time to develop the country. We also want councils to play their role in the development process of the country. They receive huge sums of money and they can use part of the funds they receive from mining companies to improve service delivery. The agricultural sector is doing well. We have so much maize including other cash crops. We will be exporting some of these crops. We used to import maize when some opposition leaders were in government,” he said.
Mr Kunda also took a swipe at Forum for Democracy and Development (FDD) president Edith Nawakwi for her continued attacks on the government, especially President Banda.
He charged that some FDD members have petitioned for the removal of Ms Nawakwi as FDD president.“We want to give respect to our women in Zambia and we are committed to working with them in developing this country and they are useful partners in the development process of the country. But we are wondering what is giving Ms Nawakwi courage to insult government,” he said.
Mr Kunda said President Banda’s foreign trips are meant to attract investment and wondered why some Zambians are criticising these outings.
He maintained that there is confusion in the UPND and that the party will soon disintegrate.
He said the PF-UPND pact does not have any agenda for the development of the country and that he has been vindicated by Senior Chief Mushili’s son, Prince Robert’s resignation from the UPND.
Mr Kunda donated K10 million to the MMD on the Copperbelt for party organisation.
He said Government has set aside about K15 billion for the empowerment of youths and women in the country.
And Copperbelt MMD chairman Joseph Chilambwe said the MMD will emerge victorious in next year’s elections.
Mr Chilambwe said people are rejoining the ruling party because of the good policies being put in place by the government.
Copperbelt minister Mwansa Mbulakulima said he will not allow activities that are aimed at causing confusion on the Copperbelt Province.
Copperbelt MMD task force committee chairman Joe Malanji presented 40 bicycles and 30 phones for party operations.
He said the MMD is strong and united on the Copperbelt. He condemned those issuing derogatory remarks against government leaders.
Kitwe district MMD chairman George Lungu said the party in the district is ready for elections.
Several party members donated cash and made pledges to the MMD.
Zambia Institute of Business Studies and Industry MMD chairman Mabvuto Ngwata said students at the institution are behind President Banda’s leadership because the government has continued developing the education sector.
Former miners’ representative Jonathan Nasilele said former miners and their families had resolved to work with the MMD government because of its commitment to the development of the country.
@Mwata
Empty vessel.
My fiance has just been touchin my head, i think i’m gonna issue a condenming statement lol
lol what next, they’re going to be running a headline that Mr Sata farted?
RB Attacks UPND-PF Pact Leaders
Republican President Rupiah Banda has called on Zambians not to allow over ambitious politicians who have lost elections on several occasions to rule them because they will be difficult to remove from power. Addressing the masses when he touched down at Munali Nickel Mine in Mazabuka in the Southern province today, Mr. Banda says PF Leader Michael Sata has lost elections three times while his UPND counterpart Hakainde Hichilema have lost twice. He has also charged that people of Southern province have been duped by their
favorite Hakainde Hichilema for entering into a pact with Mr. Sata whom they rejected in the last elections.
come on you guys, what is taboo about touching the poor man sick brain..do you you realise that touch even saved him .if it was not for Satas healing touch your highness would have joined his ancestors by now….Accept it the chief is sick and he needs a lot of hugs…:o:o:o
Mr. Banda has also called on southerners to support him in the 2011 elections and allow him finish his term. Meanwhile Mr. Banda has castigated former radio Ichengelo Station Manager Father Frank Bwalya’s Red Card campaign terming it an unconstitutional way of removing a president from power.
He says Father Bwalya should instead flash the card against the pact leaders. And speaking earlier Southern Province Minister Daniel Munkombwe warned President Banda that the MMD risks punishing all its loyal members if left unchecked. Mr. Munkombwe has also called on the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) to speed up the convention and get rid of some moles in the party. He says innocent members of the party have in the past been punished unfavorably.
This is ridiculous, some of these cultural norms are so outdated and irrelevant and should best be confined to the chiefs residence at his village and not in a public institution like a hospital where unaware and innocent people will be accused of going against tradition. Better still he should be attended to by his traditional healers. Now MMD cadres,Newton Samakai and Richard Mufwabule are capitalising on this non issue. I agree with people who say circus pa Zed.
Thanks Mwata I had missed out on somen of that news.
In Thai culture, you are not allowed to touch anyone’s head esp those older than you. if you do it is consierd a sine of disrespect. This culture is also common among the Bantu’s, where the hood of the chief or king should not be touched by a woman..neither should his head be touched by a commoner. Exception is wife touching in privacy…jejejejeje.
I doubt Sata was touching his head..but was feeling his temperature.. I doubt he did it deliberately, but to show a sign of care..let us avoid confusing things and instead just advise Shikulu Sata who to my thinking is an ignorant loud mouthed, brainless cadre President..
Fellow Zambians let us learn to appreciate our culture. Let us not condemn advise from our senior citizen when they give advise. Mr Sata should apologize if the act of touching the chief is wrong. He will not lose anything by saying sorry I did not know that it was offensive to touch the Chief’s head.
Mwata.
A person on blogs who is disrespectful by posting off topic news from Zambian websites.
He thinks people are dumb and dont read other blogs.
He thinks that what he posts is 100% the law or destiny.
Time always tells him that he is a useless cadre and his spam never is truthful.
Living in America makes his posts seem all that far away from the truth.
A twin to Senior Citizen.
A cousin to Veteran
A lame duck who sponsors destruction.
BLIND LOYALTY
OUR loyalty to the head of institutions must not be blind, science and technology minister Dr Brian Chituwo has advised.
Reacting to Lusaka Province MMD chairman William Banda’s recent statement that some Cabinet ministers and national executive committee (NEC) members were undermining President Rupiah Banda, Dr Chituwo said constructive loyalty was important.
Every society has its own customs to observe. Did you hear about the scandalous international incident? I’m talking about the USA first lady placing her arm around the royal personage of her most Royal Highness, Queen Elizabeth of the United Kingdom. This was a breach of royal protocol—one does not put one’s arm around a monarch. May you missed the Michelle Obama’s Faux Pas! I mean when the USA First Lady Touched Queen’s Shoulder – Some British went Nuts (Video exists). Michelle Obama offended the Queen! Would anyone expect anything less from the Zambian culturalists over Sata’s gaffe?
Who wouldn’t react to see Royal authought being touched by a criminal convict?
Now the question is did the chief complain to Sata immediately after the transgression. Zambia the real Africa thats why tourists dont come anymore. Instead of thanking him for visiting your sick chief at UTH one very sad face decides to make an issue from nothing. Next he falls sick write in big bold letters of dos and donts. UNBELIEVABLE. wish him quick recovery
This is what I call bullshit. I always feel it is compassionate to fondle one’s head as a way of reassuring them that all will be well. What’s wrong with that “normal human being” called chief, being touched? Michelle Obama embraced the Queen of England, which is unacceptable by British traditions, but no one had inflated nose-trills screaming, “Abomination”. They just took it easy knowing that she didn’t know. Hey Mr Samakai man, your tradition is only known by you and your lot not the whole contry with over 73 tribes. Leave Sata alone.
Total Nonsense. What bull…. in this age. This man is in hospital and not his village palace. Ba mumbwe imwe isukeni imitwe.
This man had undergo a medical examination by a young doctor who had to check the chief’s ears, throat, chest, ……etc, etc. This is the modern era, otherwise the chief should be discharged and be looked after by ba kabilo in his palace.
HONESTLY I DIDNT KNW ANYTHING LIKE THAT.THE PRBLEM IN ZED IS BELIEFS.I CAN TELL YOU THEY JST BRING US BACKWARDS EN NOT FORWARD TO HELL WITH IT.
Come on guys hold your fire. Just advise Mr Sata that it is a taboo to do so. He probably does not know that basic fact even at his age, although it is common knowledge among any well mannered people that you do not touch the head of your elders (for the avoidance of doubt a Chief is classified as an elder regardless of his age). Just forgive Mr Sata and we move on, after all in the coming pact government it will be free for all, no protocols, good manners will be taboo, and will be a criminal offence punishable by firing squad.
Utufumu ututwine etuleta umusokonezo. There is nothing wrong with a sympathiser touching the kachief’s head. It would be wrong if Sata touched the kachief’s knob.
Were was the chiefs Induna to give sata advise? if it is wrong then the kapaso should be punished because he allowed King Cobra to do it, and he also allowed the camera man in the ward
of all the parts of the body, why did Sata touch the chief’s head? why didn’t he shake his hand? Why didn’t he hug him? How many of us do go into hospital’s touching people’s heads? Only a doctor or nurse measuring temperature can do so. Only a preacher praying for healing can do so. Only a traditional healer administering some healing power can do so. Now, the final question is: What power was Sata administering to the chief? You bloggers, don’t support Sata blindly on this disrespectful act. As an older person, he should have known about this. I think Sata had some other intentions for touching the chief’s head.
Nonsense story,so this chief does not have people to shave his head, get his hair cut my GOD.What kind of silly traditions are these? this is total hatred against Sata by some people who can not defferentiant politics and humanity. ba mbuli imwe wake up.
Following “And Mr Samakai said it was also wrong for Mr Sata to visit the traditional leader tagging along a photographer to politicise and publicise the event… For me that is unacceptable because he now wants the offended people to start dancing to his tune,” I am greatly disappointed with the conduct of Mr PF/Sata MC. I hope the good moves of president and presidential candidate HH will not put Mr Sata into confusion. Let those that are copying HH do it in a civil manner.
Have a blessed all.

Matt 6:33 But seek ye first the kingdom of God and His righteousness and all these things shall be added unto you.
Stup id Sata! Should have touched his “nuts”.:d
Why do id iots on this site quote bible verses? That they are MMD and mods makes it even more ludicrous.:o
Go ahead and support Sata’s foolishness and come 2011, you will be shocked. Your man will never rule Zambia because of his foolishness in his attitude towards chiefs. How many chiefs as this cobra offended? I supported him but no more.
Apparently that is why Mrs Mwanawasa asked him to leave the viewing parlour of her husband while laying in state in Chipata because Sata was reaching out to touch Levy’s chest. Ubuloshi bwakwa Satana bwachilamo, if Senior Chief Sailunga dies, it is Sata.
Your foolishness baggers belief! Or, shall we just say ubwina Africa. So you want everyone to hate Sata and support MMD?:d
What happened to freedom of speech, selection and all that?
EEEEEeiiiiiiiii. Please stop this nosence:o:o.This Ka chief was torched everywere by the DOC and the NC before the MC did it.Some of this cultures should be thrown back to those day.The Chief is not in the palace, he is in Hospital for the . :-b:-b:-b to criticaly look at all the body parts, including ULUPALA NO MUTWE.Pa Zed, everything is:-@:-@
What is missing in this stroy is whether Sata was briefed or not. If he was briefed about the conduct expected of him then condemnation is in order and an apology from Michael would be good. In the absence of that still a simple apology would only demonstrate humility on his part and unwarranted agression on the other party.
Zambians, you have a right to be mad but don’t lose your head.
I didn’t know of this law despite being Lunda, but what was Sata doing touching his head anyway?[-(
The next you know is Sata becoming president – going on a state Visit to America and calling Obama: “Iwe Mwaiche, I know your Father……,” Or Calling the Queen – Chinamusala pakunyanta…..
That is Sata for you. God help us.
#51, that is a very good point, am sure the cheif has charms and he felt them leave when Sata touched his head. Ba Sata ukushumfwa, too much trying to gain political mileage, in the hope of showing love, mwamona nomba you may be accused of witchcraft if the chief dies. Kwena iyi 2011 tukamona. In our Zambian tradition you dont touch an elders head, even when he is sitting down you just dont. Sata should just apologise like the wayhe did over that s i ll y Mwanawasa statement.
This is what I told you about how petty Zambians are. Sata must have been accompanied by people who knew those customs BUT they did not advise him against touching the head of the chief. Now that he did it, the same Zambians now are condemning him -Malice all over. Simple matter blown out of proportions for malicious reasons – How can you develop like that? Zambians, we are really cursed I can tell you. We need to analyse our ways of doing things and positively change. You are never rich just because your neighbour is suffering but this seems to be the mindset of many of you Zambians.
“Mr Mufwabule said it was a well-known fact that it is taboo to touch the head of a chief of any tribe in the Bantu language fraternity.”
Excuse me!
If I had gone to visit the chief, I probably would have touched his head. That’s because this well-known fact is not well known to me! In any case, why didn’t the people around Sata try to stop him when they saw him going for the chief’s head? Is it possible that the people who were in that hospital room were also ignorant of this well-known fact?
@ 58 Observing Drunkenness, Sata may have been genuine but the pipo have now talked and have put one more huddle to a pile of his difficulties. Zambia is not cursed as you purport.Even the Brits considered Mitchel Obama’s hugging the queen an affront to culture. Politicians aught to know that they are under constant observations. He was chased in a similar manner while mocking Levy’s casket in Chipata hence his poor showing in Levy’s strongholds in 2008. . Let’s just pray that Sata works harder because it is becoming clearer everyday that he is unelectable. The sooner pipo accept this the better for the oppossition.
MWATA
is a very repectable title in my home village Luapula. Please since you cant respect yourself change your name to copy and paste
@ fumbelo
Ok mwalanda ifyamano…i suppose Sata should just apologize for the sake of diplomacy…those condemning sata are all MMD sponsored and they’ve been given money to bring Sata’s political strength down which to me wont really work. Those on the blog against Mr Sata’s actions are not being true to themselves and to ecerybody. MMD has just turned this issue into a political one thats one you hear Mr Simakai saying “We urge all well-meaning Zambians and people of North-Western Province in particular to condemn Mr Sata’s behaviour as regards to Senior Chief Sailunga’s hospitalization”. Why a national condemnation? its not necessary. Mr Sata was just suppose to be asked to apologize which i know he would do. MMD desperation in everything..KUYABEBELE MMD!
Well, I am not even sure whether Sata will live to contest the 2011 elections. I mean, 24% of men die within a year of a heart attack. For male patients 70 years or older, the rate rises to hearly 50%. Given Sata’s strenous campaign schedule and hair raising acrobatics like touching the heads of dying Chiefs, he is actually already living on borrowed time.
No 58,you are right,Zambians have a simpleminded approach to things, why not find solutions to averting floods in the capital, just blowing hot air over Sata, how do you know maybe the chief asked Sata to rub his head?
No 17,so called investors are coming to Zambia to steal the wealth, there is no direct benefit we are going to get, just watch, you tell me of any country which benefitted from “investors” in Africa, you think they don’t want to improve their countries?we are foolish to even allow them on our soil, the only investors we should have are indegenes period!!!
Politics! Politics! “Just thinking”. What if it was RB who touched the chiefs head.
Sata has NO brains…you can never touch the head of senior chief…the man is not a headman or your son for goodness sake!. just because some people have some ‘small’ education on this blog does not mean cultural respect should be done away with.. 😕
Anywhere in the world, NO one can just poke his dirty chamba stained fingers and touch a royal head. Its wrong!:o
its does not matter who does it…RB or anyone its wrong and disrespectful
Sata shud be wooried of MMD now bcoz the level it has reached with its loyal dogs assissination is possible
I think there is nothing wrong in touching the head of Mwami. It is that he had to pose to have a photo taken for the Post that makes it wrong. Here I find Sata doing what he accused Levy of doing when he had him evacuated to RSA! At least Levy didn’t pose to have photos taken of him touching. Sata’s head!
#67…
I feel sorry for you that you cannot read and that you have Reasoning Failure Syndrome(RFS).
The issue is not MMD vs Sata but Sata offending Kaondes/ lundas by disrepecting their chief:o
Bringing RB in all this is just shallow. RB has not touched any Chief’s head so please leave him out. A doctor is the only person with the privilege of doing anything with a human body – guys yaba! Those of you who do not know that caressing the head of an elderly person in public is wrong are typical examples of moral decay. How many times have you guys played around with your father’s head in public? A Chief may be young but he should command respect from everybody. Mr Sata should know better and teach young ones the norms of respect in our cultures. Very good comment, by the way, Suntwe #32.
#69 NDOBO KU MATAKO
i think the one who sick is you mudala. the whole thing has just be blown out of proportion and its this MMD loyal Dogs spearheading the character assassination of sata. Why would Simakai urge all zambians to condemn sata?its just turning out political and senseless you, can’t see that. It wont work. What about the doctor?how has he been handling the chief? or maybe he passed some rituals? shallow mind. It always will be MMD Vs Sata. they’ve just seen an opportunity of discrediting Sata and probably have paid up Simakai heavily to incite other Lundas. Shameless you!
This is definitely silly. Why is this news? He was touching his head to console him. He it was probably out of ignorance. Are we suppose to know traditions of every chiefdom in every corner of Zambia? This was a genuine mistake. But MMD supporters are trying to make a mountain out of a mole. They will stop at nothing to keep themselves in office and continue stealing from us.
RED CARD!!!!!!!!!!!
SUPPORT THE RED CARD CAMPAIGN BY ADD RED CARD TO YOUR USER NAME.
#72 RedCard
thats true my brother,we should all add it…RED CARD MMD!!!
Ba red card in Canada, who is stealing from you. Evidence ilikwi?:(:-?
#74 you can’t possibly be serious. Which rock are you hiding under? Have you read the AG’ reports? What about Chiluba’s case? What about Zamtel? Are you still looking for evidence?
Rubish rubish and more rubish useless tradition, whats wrong with touching someones head?
The chief is possibly a “wizard”. Could a nurse please put a cartheter on the chief?
Ba red card in Canada, since when did an audit query become a criminal indictment? What page of the report says MMD stole something. Or you are confusing dishonest/lazy civil servants with cadres? When was Zamtel stolen? Bufi pakanwa!
Nonesence you mean the chief’s women don’t touch his head when making Love. Mr. Sata go back and touch that head again.
71 Chief Moderator, you talk about character assasination of Sata. One can only assasinate a good character. Since when did Sata acquire a good character?
What is clear is that Sata does not have the common decency to say sorry genuinely when he has offended, That is why he gave a half hearted “apology” over his comments on Late Mwanawasa. Can he tell us why he took a cameraman with him. Clearly it was a stage managed photo-opportunity gone bad. Can the Post also tell us how they are always “co-incidentally” where Sata is.
Abantu bamu Zambia they can make you crazy. The voices of various bloggers above say it all
I don’t think it is Sata’s fault. If he was told beforehand that tradition does not allow the touching of the chief’s head he would not have done it. He was just expressing empathy ( he is also human after all despite……………..).**==
Yes, Zambia after KK simply became a talk shop. The reason is that because Chiluba who was by any standard very ill-prepared for Presidency was elected and managed to savage us until we were taken backwards 40 years. Now every Jim and Jack in Zambia thinks they can run Zambia because after all the President does nothing really other assembling a group of party cadres and making them drunk.
So read newspapers, all headings are talk, talk, talk and talk. No peper covers any meaningful projects being done in Zambia if they are any and where projects have been started then the workmanship is very poor as the money is misappropriated. Corruption, corruption and talk, talk and talk.
Ba LT do you give tu ma flags according to which country one is blogging from or what? Am surprised because I am not in Sweden.
There is nothing wrong with what happened Sata was praying for the chief you have seen pastors do that i’m sure you have seen that on TV. He was simply giving him some blessings Sata is a man of god.
So, how is this car chief being examined by doctors, if he can’t be tauched? And what if he develops ka bump pa 4head or cancer mumutwe? Bushe kushita akali robot from china to examine and operate on him? Kali expensive car chief aka.

Every tribe has a culture ,Satana was wrong why did he go with a photographer ?He just wanted to show the world how arrogant and disrepectful he is to the chiefs from N/West ,am sure this act will help lose further votes from that region he desparately needs. Those who not see anything wrong with this act you go and hug some queen or king in those countries live and see if you will eat anymore pies there, you’ll find yourself at Lusaka International airport ,Satana waiting for you.You Bembas are a problem you need to have new leader who thinks better than Mpundu,Walya and Satana this combination is a threat to national development and peace we have known for over hundred years as a country.
When KK and FTJ were in power and had patients or VIPs to visit in UTH they came without cameras or siren to attract attention, now this powerless mad man goes with foolish post cameramen fo cheap PR.Go and do it to your mulamu, why don’t you pose with with you children from Petronella and your mulamu mpundu so that the world can see you double standards. You won’t go in ,you cray man.

I can`t believe we still have people who can use a computer yet supporting indoshi iyi chifi.
I bet ba figili bamo pano they still practice ukupyana. Mukapwa na AIDS bambuli imwe. What`s wrong with touchig a certain idi ot called a chief? These peope do not matter any more in rural areas. You find them drinking Chibuku, amaule nabasenda ati chifi`s head? What nonsense!
I am a Lunda and could care less about this head touching ‘incident’ 😮 lets focus on more important issues…my 2 cents
Who is this ka Chief anyway that he cannot be touched on the head. Why do you embrace such archaic and outdated cultures as though they will put food on your tables and clothes on your backs. It is these stupid cultures that prevent Zambia from developing. And these two stupid people represent the whole Lunda opinion for them to say the people of North Western province are angered. Are you telling me that Lundas or Kaondes do not have independent minded people who would interpret Michael’s act in a more civilised manner. What a shame, what poverty can create. Imbeciles.
#95Itol lay Go and hug your mother inlaw if you’ve got an unlucky one and see if she’ll respect you again.Do not pretend just because the the chief in question comes from the North West, the Litunga will not allow such arrogance maybe Chiefs from Northern province will allow such disrespectfulness am not sure.To hell with you bloggers who have no cultural norms. This desparation to get into plot one won’t work the man is getting worse by the day, just wait the next thing you’ll be blogging about is his illness in Chainama and GBM wanting to evacauate him to Taiwan for specialist treatment, watch this space, this is the end of Satana.I doubt if an apology will save him.Katwishi kwena anga lapusuka Satana?
Terrence Findlay’s blatant contempt for Lambas is something people of this country should be concerned about. It’s so sad that this rapist mongrel, a cursed high-yellow product of The Master’s midnight discreed and illegal “canal knowledge” of his hopeless slave in the slave quarters can today turn around and show such disdain for us who despite his illegitimacy, shame and pain sorrounding his siring accepted him and brought him up. This dog deserves to be shot in his head to pump sense in that silly skull of his that if he thinks musungu, he should go to Germany or France and see the reception he will get.
#78 White ribbon, that is exactly my point. Why has there not been any indictments or investigations as a result of the AG’s report? It leaves one to come to the conclusion that the government is hiding something. By the way civil servants are government employees. If they are being lazy then Banda is being lazy; it is a reflection of the poor leadership at the top. Speaking of laziness, was it not Shikapwasha sleeping in parliament? What do you call that.
YOU are RED CARDed
I Think everyone should look at # 87’s comment. Puts everything in context. Very sharp #87.
Ala bane what is wrong with touching ulukobo lwamfumu, i guess what king cobra did was a nutural impulse than anything .Even Obama and his wife are on record for greeting queen Elizabeth once in a untraditional way and no one made an issue out of it.Probably sata was just removing ama blanket mumutwe wamfumu who knows.:-?
CHIEF Machiya of Mpongwe has said Lambas will not vote for President Rupiah Banda and the MMD in 2011 elections.
And chief Machiya has advised Ndola businessman Terrence Findlay to go to his palace and apologise for showing contempt for Lambas failure to which he will show him that Lambas are not people to play with.
Meanwhile, chieftainess Malembeka has said if Findlay thought that Lambas were stupid, he should take his businesses elsewhere.
In an interview on Friday, chief Machiya said President Banda did not deserve a vote from the Copperbelt because he was watching people insult late president Levy Mwanawasa and the Lamba-speaking people.
“I am a very disappointed person. And I want everyone to know that I am speaking on behalf of all Lamba chiefs on the Copperbelt and the Lamba people,” chief Machiya said. “We are not happy with President Banda and Findlay. What we expected from President Banda is to take action against Findlay, but he has kept quiet, meaning he is happy and in support of Findlay’s statement.
“President Banda is not going to get any vote from Copperbelt or the Lamba people. It is a shame that he has a short memory. Not too long ago, he succeeded the late president and he can’t even defend late president Mwanawasa’s honour. We want him to know that he doesn’t deserve a vote from us.”
Chief Machiya said President Banda was a disappointment because he had allowed Findlay to insult Lambas…
“Why is the President quiet over this matter? This shows that he is supporting Findlay and this clearly shows that he has no respect for the late president and the Lamba people. We can’t support anyone who does not respect us,” he said.
And chief Machiya said Findlay had touched “a tail of a tiger” and that if he did not apologise to all the Lamba chiefs and the Lamba people, they would get at him.
“Findlay has no manners, and I want him to come to my palace and apologise publicly to the nation and after that we want him out of the Copperbelt because Copperbelt belongs to the Lamba people and we don’t want him in our province,” chief Machiya said. “He should go somewhere else. Failure to which we are going to use the instruments of witchcraft on him to show him that a…
Chieftainess Malembeka said Lambas would not allow Findlay to conduct business in their area.
“Alekwatako umucinshi. Alemona kwati fwe ba Lamba we are stupid (He should have respect, he thinks us Lambas are stupid). He must take his business where he comes from,” she said.
The instruction comes in the wake of Findlay’s open revelation of his hatred for Lamba-speaking people and the late president Mwanawasa.
KITWE’S United Church of Zambia (UCZ) Kwacha East Congregation Reverend Teddy Siwila has said the government’s insensitivity, intolerance and failure to embrace criticism on matters of governance is provoking people and creating unnecessary political tension.
And Rev Siwila has challenged the MMD government and opposition political parties to refrain from harassing people who hold divergent views and respect the country’s democratic and political dispensation.
In an interview in Kitwe, Rev Siwila said the style of leadership of President Rupiah Banda’s administration was worrying and provoking the minds of the right thinking members of the public because of its failure to listen to the voice of the people over matters of national interest such as the constitution-making process
the fight against corruption, unemployment and the escalating poverty levels.
Rev Siwila said it would be difficult for the country to attain meaningful development and enjoy the fruits of being in a democratic state if government continued to lend a deaf ear to various stakeholders and the general citizenry over matters that affect them.
He said it was unfortunate that politics of insults had become the order of the day and people holding government power had diverted attention from real issues to mere politicking.
“It would be difficult to end this tension we are seeing in the political arena because those in the corridors of power are not listening to what the people are saying. This country needs leaders who are going to embrace criticism, tolerance and uphold the values of being…
He said the general citizenry would only give respect to President Banda and his government if it stopped concentrating much on consolidating political power but address issues that affect the poor people.
He said that fostering good governance was not about having political power but touching poor people’s lives through service delivery. He said it was saddening to note that church leaders and various prominent individuals who speak out on issues that affect the people were being maliciously attacked
[-( #9 YOU ARE VERY RIGHT. WHAT IS ON THE GROUND IS THAT SOME PEOPLE JUST WANT TO OPEN THEIR FAKE MOUTHS LOUDLY SO THAT THEY CAN BE OVERHEARD. EVEN SOMETHING WHICH IS SO SIMPLE IS TAKEN TO BE SOMETHING SO MAJOR. POLITICS OF POVERTY SO THAT THEY CAN BE GIVEN SOME BROWN ENVELOPES AND BE ABLE TO FEED THEIR STARVING FAMILIES. MAY I REMIND PEOPLE LIKE SAMAKAI WITH SHALLOW THINKING BRAINS THAT IT IS NOT POSSIBLE THAT YOU CAN CONTINUE TO FEED YOUR STARVING FAMILY THROUGH BROWN ENVELOPES UNLESS YOU HAVE A WORKING GOVERNMENT WITH SOUND POLICIES. UKUTUMPA, WHAT IS IT THAT THE MMD GOVERNMENT HAS DONE FOR YOU ? HAVE YOU BEEN TO OTHER COUNTRIES WHERE GOVERNMENTS ARE AT WORK AND DEVELOPMENT IS FORESEEN ? PLEASE, WAKE UP, DON’ T MICHAEL SATA FOR NOTHING. IF HE IS DESTINED TO BECOME PRESIDENT OF ZAMBIA.
Mwalipena, Sata namipesha amano, you guys back in zambia, can you really do something else instead of today-Sata tomorrow- Sata , How about floods, Hospitals, food, schools, jobs- let sata be and do what people- zambian people need-please. TWAPAPATA our relatives will die kusala please, and we can not manage sending money back home every day we have got other things to do. worse more dollar has even lost power.
Kaluyi Mwambwa ka Lnda Mwambwa.
I am very disapointed with Mr Sata for what he did to our chief.I am further equalily disapointed even to the Lundas who didn’t not protect our from that.
Please my dear Zambians if atall what i have read is true that Mr Sata touched the head of the chief ,please its totaly wrong i would like him to just apologies straight away without talking too much.Let him not even wait for the writeup from the Lunds and Kaonde poeple.
Mr sata ,The LOZI’S say kelezo ki mulywani ainyefulwi.Ask Given Lubinda,Inonge Wina to translate for you.Its lake of respect for the poeple of Lunda and Kaondes to do what Mr Sata has done.Ki Kaswau kakamaswe kwa sichaba sa Makaonde and Lundas.
Anything and everything will be used to stop Sata from standing. But if he is destined to rule he will rule. No human efforts can change a mans destiny.
This shows how the typical African foregts his culture by being exposed to the internet. In China and India, the internet is a big thing but culture is still maintained. You Africans are taking liberalization too far. Now you discard your own culture just to support political propaganda. Sata was accompanied by a Post reporter and camera man. Why?
Sata has no respect any one who doent know him. His followers want to potray him as if he is a saint yet he is just an unrepentent fool. Wake and rebuild Zambia than worst time politicking and unproductive talks.
KATIE #42 i totaly agree with you,Mr. SATA,just like many of us didnt know that touching a chief`s head is a taboo.Quiet alright he is old but you dont expect him to know everything.I just pray that will be brave enough to apologies OR he wont get aSINGLE vote from the lunda people, believe me folks.
Imwe ba kachokwe- nishani kanshi! The poor chief was being blessed by the Holy Spirit and you are busy bringing archaic traditional issue! Is Sata a kachokwe? HELL NO! My mother told me that in those day ba Kachokwe were restricted to only certain tasks and it is common knowledge! It’s Sata who stopped those barriers! Please forgive him for having been filled with a revival spirit- for you still believe in traditional antidotes! He didn’t know!
What is wrong with touching someones head. Iam right now touchin g the head also in that edition of the post.
Just been told ka chief had inda mumutwe which Sata was trying to remove for him. Very ungrateful chief!:d
chiefs don’t go to barbers. they use hair removers. Docs and nurses dont touch chiefs. they transfer their ailments to the kapasos but the medication is given to the chief. But may be that chap in UTH is just a masquarade. the chief died a long time ago!!!
Iwe chi Lady Chiza bushe walikwata amano iwe? You must be a ndoshi just like you father chief cakuti shani uko! Fumapa Kolokombwa iwe!
Guys dont be funny. do you spend time touching the woman’s head during love making instead of the batakos!!! anyway so may way of killing a rat!!!
hahaha Lady Chiza
check the chaps who are complaining . the samakai lad – just the other day we saw his relative being promoted, so what do you expect? why didnt this same gugu-heads say a word when that race less rapist character – insulted the Lambas and the late President , ha ? is it because he is mmd ?this thing we are going to take it far if you chaps from other provinces think you are better than US. bwana mwanyata paka pendo . leave our land .and lets see where going he goes .
Ifya kumushi fye:d
This is appalling indeed. You guys immediately chief was hospitalised, did you inform the medical personnel not to touch your cheif’s head? It would be a different issue altogether if that happened at the chief’s palace. Ba fikamba kwateni amano. It’s like Sata has kept you on your toes, it’s one issue after another. Wait for next year kuya bebele.
…yangu tata utu utuloshi nato awe twashupa. How am I supposed to know am not supposed to touch his head. If you had told me earlier on I would have happily obliged becouse I didnt want to touch him anyway[-(
#14- You are very right. MMD is focused on real issues and it is demonstrating good governance. Those who are eyeing plot 1 for the sake of leisure will never see it until the end of the world. Come on RB, Viva RB!
This is B.U.L.L.S.H.I.T what is wrong with touching a sick person’s head.I think we have so many empty heads in this country who have very little reasoning abilities. Can you for once give us a break and stop trading crap in public. As for mwata, you are and empty shell and need serious examination or worse still you are a chainama mental healthy hospital candidate.
#122 BATAKOS OFCOURSE MAMY! BWELA PA FUPI NAIWE NIGWELEKO YAKO UNVELE MUSHE!
Here the issue is about respecting other peoples beliefs and traditions. Sata should be well placed to know that, but knowing Sata he could have deliberately done that to provoke an argument!
102 Mo taim …Amalageti waufwikako nabwino limbi Imfumu baleitalainda muchimpompo…:o:o:o
Senior Citizen,Mwata,whoever you are-mulimbushi,amafi yekayeka
What if Sata had touched this ka chief’s dick and nuts?!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I think President Sata should apologise for being born!!! will that stop people from watching his every reflexive move. what happened to wisdom? do you really expect that Prseident Sata should know each and every Royal law, custom and do’s and don’ts in the entire Zambia. He must be a genius to do that! People of Zambia, we are missing the point…. we need progress in Zambia, not talk and useless accusations! ‘Ubufumu buchindika ubwine!!!’ it is amazing to watch what happens with opposition and ruling parties in developed countries! There are no restrictions of TV only accessible to ruling party or newspapers. BBC reporters are not afraid to question the PM!! will we ever reach that level? think again people. forward or backward? what Nawakwi is saying is the truth!
It is also a taboo for chiefs to be admitted to hospital – i am reliably informed. Can the doctor touch his head?
@48, Wanjipaya mwe bantu imwe. He he he he:d:d:d:d/:d/:d/:d/:d/
#134Mulenga- Newcastle Just because you are in the UK you think you must talk of our chief like that am sure you would say the same it was your Chitimukulu who was treated like that, respect does not choose ,no wonder you will never rule agin you quacks.
#135bemba princess so called,he should have asked his Mandevu MP JEAN KAPATA to educate him about Lunda cultural issues since he has no common sense and courtesy.

#139Yaya – What should the Dr. do if the examination will include touching the head.????
Yaya you chaps are just making noise because you have seen an opportunity to descredit Sata. These are some of the issues that make me sad in this country. Of what value is not touching thechiefs head going to be. Whether the chief’s head is touched or not poverty is on the increase, health care is poor, proper education is for the privaledged few, inflation is high. And you guys spend your energies making noise over one man touching another man’s head who happens to be a traditional ruler. People have committed more serious crimes like threating to rape a women and you have kept you traps shut but because your enemy has touched someones head you are now shouting as if the world will come to an end.
Infact most of you you are only talking like that because Samakai and his friend went to the Daily Mail and Times of Zamibia.
Where was the kapaso and advisors to the chief, they could have advised the PF president how to go about it.
Also why did they allow the cameraman to take pictures of the sick chief to begin with?so these guys are just trying to politise the whole issue and this is not a case.
Just pray for chief to heal in the name of Jesus, period.
The source of the story, the Daily Mail tells it all!MMD at work and trying to create an issue out of a trivial matter!Pliz grow up MMD you are being childish. You just make Sata popular coz you always have something to say about him and his actions. At least I now know he went to visit the sick in UTH where your man RB is afraid to goas he can only visit Morningside hospital and not his own UTH here
if this touching was done by a chinese person and pictured .would we receive the same outcry.culture is to you and yours .our common culture is to give a seat to some one older than you in all situations.but do we do that at work .your boss is your boss, you respect him whether young or old .the chief was not in his domain to expect every one to treat him as per his culture.and if i think about democracy will never be democracy because we zambians seems to see no role for the opposition .we think the goal is just to get to plot one.shame zambians
they are scared MMD.nawakwi has said it properly that a lot of them will be destitutes.thats is good news
A nation without culture is indeed dead! Go on modernising everything. If you donot have a culture keepout of other people’s cultures.
Shame upon all of you called leaders without hope for this nation.Iwished God can clear all of just now!
Mukazipeleka ba chief banu kumuganda and not UTH.Some of us sympathyse by touching the head and rub it.Manje munatemenena bumfwiti mumitu yanu and you don’t want to be touch.Employ yo own nurses and Doctors who understand yo culture.Which is more desrespectful, pricking matako ya chief na manjeleti or touching the head?
In first Aid we support the mostly coz of its delicacy.
Bakalwena! go back to school and discard some irrelevant traditional practices.
