OPPOSITION Forum for Democracy and Development (FDD) has disowned its leader Edith Nawakwi over her continued attacks on President Rupiah Banda.
FDD vice president Chifumu Banda said yesterday in an interview that Ms Nawakwi’s attacks on President Banda were her personal views and did not represent the party’s position.
“You can ask senior leaders in the party or the national policy committee. Those views do not represent the views of the party,” he said.
Mr Banda said although people had a right to express their views, the FDD always had a clear position on national issues.
“Those views are hers and do not represent FDD members or the party position,” he said.
He said he did not discuss other people’s utterances because people could not tell the difference between him and other people.
“You know I am a lawyer and I know that every person has a right to express himself or herself,” he said.
The FDD vice-president said even if he had his personal opinion and the fact that he chose to keep quiet did not mean that he did not hold any views.
And FDD national youth chairperson Levy Ngoma said he would issue a statement on the matter today.
Mr Ngoma said he was scheduled to meet Ms Nawakwi last evening before he could issue a statement today.
Ms Nawakwi has in the recent past launched an aggressive attack on President Banda raising concerns in the MMD ranks and the public.
She has recently condemned President Banda’s trip to China and alleged that the president was leading the country on a path of economic disaster.
The opposition leader has also been reported to have attacked President Banda saying most clinics in Lusaka had no medicine and the situation was deplorable.
She has also been quoted as saying that without her support in the 2008 elections, Mr Banda could not have been elected as president.
But many MMD sympathisers have said that Ms Nawakwi was a job-seeker who wanted President Banda to appoint her to a Government position even when there was no need.

Chifumu Banda & RB are best friends even when RB was involved with FAZ. They used to fly together to watch Zambia play abroad. These guys are buddies so he is merely backing his mate hence he was elected NCC chairmanship & he will deliver a constituion that RB wants. A case of hands wash each other really there is no story.

There is a difference between criticism and personal attacks on the head of state and we expect Nawakwi to know that. She seems to be a bitter and frustrated woman whose chosen warpath will only lead to her doomed political career. She has nothing more to offer and she is now being disowned by her own party.

If the response was that we are doing something about the concerns Nawakwi is raising or that we have done this and will continue to address this concern, things would not be as bad as they are now when George, RB and other dog loyalists are taking her on. Somebody advice me how this is personally attacking RB. Is what she said false? Do the clinics have medicine? Let us learn to differentiate between personal attacks and national issues. Saying clinics have no medicine is not attacking RB. She also condemned his trip to China, how is this personal? If RB cheated on his wife and she attacked him, then this would be a personal matter. But matters she is raising are of national interest and the sooner people learn the difference, the better. But then again, what can you expect from self confessed dogs?

George Kunda is an alarmist and whistle Blower. It started with him saying HH will be removed from UPND (expelled & replaced by Garry Nkombo). Now the same insane George Kunda three days ago started saying Nawakwi will be replaced or booted out of FDD. The only opinion that matters to some people is their’s.
Anybody else’s opinion is shushushu, bootlicker, and the usual “he has been bought by RB”. This RB has got to be very rich, even if he used government money how much would he need to buy all right thinking Zambians? And then we have to assume that all Zambians are corrupt and not upright. Yes they do have an MP in Sinda and he is also the Youth Chairperson(Levy Ngoma).He has been there since 2001 and he is the only one MMD failed to dislodge in 2006 general elections.

Chifumu Banda is the Chairperson for NCC. He is directly eating from government coffers. Then what do you expect him to say. In fact he has been instructed by RB to either issue that statement or loose his job. You know that RB is good at firing. Kalimwitobo of Chifumu Banda and he cannot speak anything apart from praising the hand that is feeding him. Chifumu Banda’s Law firm has lost business and he does not live on anything else apart from NCC money where he earns 500,000 per day. And now there is no dispute it is growing.According to my education from Unza,IMF is an authority on world economic matters.Its President comfirmed that our econonmy is on its recovery path. Professor Oliver Saasa a long time lectuerer of Unza,has for some time now been speaking positively about the economy.These sages are academic superlatives who cannot be compared with people like Sata,HH,husband snatcher and perpetual spinster Nawakwi,father Bwalya and their ilk.Albeit drawbacks,there are developmental activities taking place everywhere in Zmbia.Going by events in the recent past, you cannot expect every human need to be met instantaneously. My lecturer, Lipalile is in today’s POST newspaper advising government to invest more in social sectors like health and education. Lipalile’s argument is genuine cos we investing so much into what he called consuption sectors. It’s such thinking that we need unlike writing off positive things happening. Nawakwi’s view are her own, true and was wondering if she has been on the ground to get primary data to validate her argument.

#27 and 29, I’d argue that given the economic base the country had been given by the capable and prudent leadership of the late President, it would have done far better than it has done, had the MMD NEC had the true interests of the nation at heart and offered as candidate for President someone with vision, integrity and capacity. But instead, they offered an incompetent, and did a great disservice to this country. That, really, is what makes some of us so angry.

There is a parallel here with the FTJ situation. When Chiluba supported Sata , the PF kaponyas loved him. When Nawakwi supported RB she was personna non gratta for the PF but now somehow she is their heroine. In Zambian politics, the one who is your friend today will be your enemy tomorrow which does not bode well for the PACT given that the elections are over a year away. Another issue at hand which also has parallels with the PF is the extent to which the party leader speaks on behalf of the party. There is no democracy within the ranks of PF so Sata determines what the party stands for which is liable to change given his erratic mind. To what extent did Nawakwi consult her colleagues in FDD before making her statements? Did she try to build party consesus on this important issue?
As for Chifumu Banda, he should just come out in the open because Nawakwi is the FDD president and she has every right to express herself and that is the opinion of the party. The lack of logic in his reasoning stinks and I am left to believe he is tribally bigoted to support his kin, another Banda. You bet maybe that is his uncle.

Nawakwi really disappointed me when she campaigned for RB, but I support her fully on the current attacks on the govt, especially on the issues of health for the Zambian people. I can also challenge Kapembwa Simbao to visit Ronald Ross Hosp Maternity ward in Mufulira. when you go to deliver you carry your own gloves, black plastic and chitenges to cover the bed, Jik and soap for cleaning up after you deliver. You bring your own syringe for the injection to remove the placenta, a peg for plugging the umblical cord, your own beddings, surely Nawakwi is right on this one, no politics Chifumu you are enjoying the K20m at NCC at the expense of the poor, shame on you.

RB’s response to Nawakwi proves the man is out of touch with reality because it is not only one clinic in Zambia that has problems. In fact I don’t think there is a single clinic without any serious problems in Zambia today unless it is run by an NGO or a religious group, etc. These are real issues on the ground.
