Government has set aside K34.9 billion for the up grading of four Lusaka township roads to bituminous standard
The roads, which have been earmarked for tarrying are Kamwala South, Kasama, Libala South and Yotam Muleya.
Works and Supply Deputy Minister CHRISTOPHER KALILA says the contractor, RAVEN WORXS has already moved on site to start works on four point five kilometer Kamwala South road.
Dr. KALILA who was accompanied by Works and Supply Permanent Secretary BIZWAYO NKUNIKA said this when he inspected works on the Kamwala South road this morning.
And Lusaka City Council Roads Engineer MUSONDA MULENGA said the contractor is currently levelling the road before compacting it.
And Kamwala South residents expressed happiness at the commencement of road works.
MMD Kabwata Constituency Chairman EDWARD SITAMBULI and MMD Kabwata Constituency youth LESLIE CHIKWE said the tarrying of the township roads will make their party more popular.

Now you are talking!! It’s great to finally see some action.
This is why i say that the PACT is always behind by RB! as they spend their enegies insulting and talking, RB is busy sourcing for funds and constructing (schools, roads, clinics, hospitals, etc). Mind you, he started with rural constituencies and now he has moved urban and by the time we reach 2011…WOOOO it will be all smiles for RB. PACT please work up –do something for your constituencies!!!!!!! dont talk too much.
If we held elections every year our country would have developed to some extent. As can be seen from this report, the contractor has moved on site to start work on the 5 km Kamwala South road and a few more projects will without doubt kick off. Some of these will be abandoned as soon as this government is ‘re-elected’, it has happened before. We are not critical from without, we are fed up of these cheap campaign tricks.
Not those chaps with picks . . .just bring in proper contractors …dont care from china or mars..get the roads done!
On “The roads, which have been earmarked for tarrying are Kamwala South, Kasama, Libala South and Yotam Muleya” this is good but what about us who stay in Chalala rockfield?
The vehicles are getting damaged because of bad gravel roads and so we need tar also.
Whatever the case on your developments MMD GRZ, I am for president and 2011 presidential candidate HH or any other UPND member that the party will sponsor apart from Mr MC Sata of the PF to lead Zambia as President after 2011.
Have a blessed day.
_
Matt 6:33 But seek ye first the kingdom of God and His righteousness and all these things shall be added unto you.
This is the kind of development we need. We need good roads as this will enhance economic activity and not building toilets on land that is supposed to be for shopping malls.
‘Bituminous standard’…wow. What are the other road standards, this sounds a very interesting subject.
# 2. Its not the mare fixing of roads that we are interested in. The priotities are not set right. Tell me how much money the government collects from companies in Lusaka and I will tell you how much they collect from the copperbelt yet the last works on the roads that copperbelt intra town roads received was in the ZCCM days. Its unacceptable to have ditches on roads. Imagine even potholes on roadabouts! what shame for the MMD government but then again I forget that we are governed by people with no sense of shame who are entertained by supporters without an ability to tell right from wrong.
NAMA SHOFOLO AT UPGRAEDING THE ROADS MY A.S.S ERECTION TIME WE KNOW THIS STORY
# 2, its all planned out. #5 don’t worry we shall get to your place. It is all in the budget. Our goal is to recapture Lusaka and Copperbelt. With Lusaka and copperbelt in the bag, the PACT can have their Southern and Luapula and it will take them nowhere. On the Copperbelt Luanshya is the launch pad and command control center. The good feeling we create there will spread to the rest of copperbelt and all sensible people will realise how backward the PACT with its red card sibling is a joke. They wont know what hit them, baby!! The l-) l-) is on the move the l-) l-) is working. Just prepare for the a remix version of your “VJ rigged elections songs”. Maybe the remix version will sell since I bet you supporters are tied of your repeats.
I hope these roads will not fall apart within a few months like has been the trend of late.
# 8 Mr Zedian!
Never think that your way of prioritising will always be inline with government, just as your priorities will not be like mine, but the most important thing is to have the work done and in time.
Why cant you say something about the enegies spent on insulting and talking aloud against RB instead of lobbying to have works in their constituencies. Talk about the economy and governance (HAVE YOU HEARD OF ANY DONARS COMPLAINING OF LATE? SAY SOMETHING ABOUT SCHOOLS, HOSPITALS, CLINICS, ROADS, FIRST EVER ANTI-CORRUPTION POLICY) IN LESS THAN 2 YEARS.
TELL YOUR PACT TO REDUCE ON TALKING AND INSULTING AND DIVERT THEIR ENEGIES TO MORE CONSTRUCTIVE THINGS PLEASE. THIS IS JUST AN ADVICE.
Good Evening
I learnt some things regarding road maintenance from the comments by some knowledgeable bloggers last time. One of them is that this kind of development should be self explanatory because it is budgeted for through tax payers’ funds.
Pick, pick napikitolo – Roads need to be constructed with proper equipment, not the above pictured.
# 12 exactly my point you can’t realise that there is no development going on right now. Provided people like you who are educated and privaledged than the common man continue not to see that the country is not developing we shall continue to have poor quality leadership. The state of roads on the copperbelt requires URGENT overhaul. Those who perpetuate insults against RB will always have support on the copperbelt provided infrastructure remains the way it is. You need to advise the MMD 2011 will shock them the same way Kaunda got shocked in 1991. Make hay whilst the sun is still shinning.
Who eats anti corruption policies? when you have K445 billion in unremitted imprest from government ministries. Simply put I dont think its the same Zambia that we talk about. Anyway as you put it ba Real Man Issues our priories will never be the same. No wonder some businesses are prosperous whilst others are flops. Iam sure even the managers who run businesses that flop at one point think they are the wisest!
Idiosyncratically His Excellency President Rupiah Banda’s leadership comes out as very progressive with best national interest at heart unlike the opposition who are hollow dissemblers of a leaf in the wind. Continuously RB has kept proving that he is not just Zambia’s Guardian of hope and unity that has resisted polarization, the man has kept showing adaptive capacity in all national endeavors for the common good. He has shown learning ability – about the Governed, about the world around him, about what it takes to adjust to, and to make, change that is of common good.
While they are at it, I hope they also put in a place a good drainage system. The rains will definitely be back in October/November.
Mwata,
Glad you have brought up the issue of RB’s opponents being hollow dissembler of a leaf in the wind.
Yesterday I monitored QFM nite line program on which they hosted excommunicated Priest Frank Bwalya’s talking his call for a bloody Zambia on tribal cause cum “Red Card nonsense”. The anarchical hatred and illogical debate was only saved by an intelligent QFM moderator who asked him tough. It was a theatrical fantasy. Thanks God Zambia has seen a Head of state that values engaging others through shared meaning, is teaching and, in turn, listening. In his Governance is being an interactive leader, one who is enlisting as well as commanding with human dignity, and one who is capable of mobilizing the best in people through shared vision.
Take it or leave it, RB as an exposed educated internationalists knows that Integrity is about knowing what you stand for – possessing a strong moral compass – and having the courage of your convictions; he knows that it is a process of self-knowledge that provides a core identity and a spine that remains strong even when circumstances demand that you adapt. It’s his people skills type of leadership and integrity that is keeping his leader ship relevant to this country against his opposing hollow dissembler of a leaf in the wind.
#19 Senior Citizen, just one clarification. Fr Frank Bwalya has not been excommunicated. He is on leave of absence. There is a great difference between leave of absence and excommunication. Excommunication means being expelled from the Catholic Church. Leave of absence happens when one requests to stop carrying out his priestly duties for a while in order to reflect on his priesthood, and then decide whether one wants to remain a priest or not. This is also different from being suspended. Suspension is initiated by one’s superior, while leave of absence is initiated by the person himself. Meanwhile you can also be expelled from priesthood, without being excommunicated from the Church.
I don’t agree with a lot of what Fr Bwalya is doing, but I just thought I’d clarify his status to…
Very soon the opposition in Zambia will be like the opposition in Botswana cos of their lack of vision.Always empty talk void of isuues.
Dogs have a way of barking at nothing, especially when their master is eating.
Those 4 charps you are seeing paraded as constructors are MMD cadres! Where in this world have you seen contructors tarring even a 10 meters road with picks? Have you seen any quipment there? That money has been released towards MMD’s campaigns. RB and his corruption while senior citizen continues with his shameless deffence for the failed and doomed RB’s regime. 2011, Kuyabebele! VIVA PACT
I need an update…am currently not in my mother land….soon to return though…The old railway line running from Chilenje to town…can’t our Government construct some 4-lane road parallel to Chilimbulu…maybe the trafic problem would be eased…just suggestin’
:d/ this is great news. I hope the roads materialise soon. I also hope the contractors will be of decent calibre! well perhaps the ‘legacy’ will do continue instead of wasting our precious time…
More like a person going to buy another second hand car needing attention when he has one in the car port which has just failed an MOT. Ba Zambia!:o
#20 What do you regard as exposure? Going to China for two weeks, Cuba 1 week, Namibia 4 days, SA 4 days, Nigeria 1 week, Malawi 1 day, Libya 2 days? :d
Mulasekesha mwebena Africa.
Ok ok guys let me have my say weda it’s Lupiya or Satana Zambia will Neva develop!!! Just bring back the British colonialist at least they will unlock zambias potential and put nshima on the mats for the masses!! Why don’t you guys understand Africans can Not govern!!!!!!
#24, It is always good to use both capital and labour intesive methods on a project. The labour intensive methods will put money in people’s pockets. Raven Worx is a registred contractor and I am sure when they need heavy equipment they will move compactors on site. When clearing the shoulders they can use labour intensive methods. It is beneficial to the community and does not put money in the pockets of oil companies.
A reminder for #29: right now as we blog, an African – President Barack Obama is governing the world and bringing the world’s most powerful leaders to reason together at the Nuclear Security Summit in Washington.
#29, It is dangerous to have people who do not know their history, like Maxi in a society. The British were in Zambia for 70 years (1895 – 1964) and only managed to teach Maxi the inferiority complex. Here is wisdom. If you were to loose all institutions in your country and allowed to keep one institution, which one would it be? Answer – The National Archives. This is the memory of the nation and will teach you not to repeat the mistakes of old. Maxi, Learn to know and understand your nation’s history.
Nine chale don’t be fooled his not African ad say more American…. Let’s say his a coloured!!
Grading of roads is long over due! We need tarmac road in town during rain seasons all those roads will be mud and water.
Apart from a few logical comments and by that i mean no more than 2, all of you should be ashamed of yourselves. The picture says it all.How can anyone work on improving the roads with the wrong tools. Its pathetic and st upid in thinking one can improve roads by using such tools stoneage. This is a waste of money, first one needs proper equipment,to be used now and in the future.Everyone involved in approving this contract aught to be sucked.Analyse this, where and how is the drainage system that would help prolong the life span of the road be implemented.Pick vs rocks. In order for zambia to improve,we need the right equipment and intelligence to progress in the right direction. The picture says it all, suck the MMD,they are like a blind man in a dark room, looking for a black cat, thats not there
#21 Load shedding, thanks for the expert clarification. So “father” walya is on leave of absence to reflect on his priestly duties? And all to decide whether he wants to be a priest or not? Oh, so he is not a priest at heart after all? That explains all the nonsense spewing from his foul mouth then. Bane mwa zinvelela, sembe simunadwale.
If you are ignorant on technical matters you do not have to say anything, just observe others do the job.
Hon Given Lubinda, M.P., does not like this, does he? On the one hand roads in his constituency are being improved, on the other he does not take the credit because everybody knows that he is a failure. Agony baba.
One could wish Zambia held presidential elections every 2 years!!!!!!This could force politicians to focus on development.Good job RB for such a developmental project. These are projects we`ve been singing about all the time.I know that out of the $1 billion that was sourced from China,$700 million has been earmarked for road construction and rehabilitation.
Investment in heavyduty equipment is paying off big time.Kudos RB and team.
Katie good, you are as blind as the party the you support. Please keep your ignorance to your stu pid self,if you call that development, then you dont have a brain.just shut ur bit chy mouth, ignorant zambian
I can see the government is scared to loss the 2011 elections lolllllllllllllll. I hope they will continue working like if they happen to won.
Chapi, you sound like a grade one drop out,you should marry katie good, and your kids will be as blind as a bat, good luck you stu pid ignorant fools.its your type that make us not want to come home.
Havanna, are you just talking for the sake of making noises, might i suggest you keep your nonsense to yourself.brush your mouth, perhaps you might make some sensible contributions
Recycled politian may be U can answer a few questions I have for you. Why is it that the African continent is a mess, the poorest, highest death rate, lower morality rate. Why is it that barring southafrica and say the old zim were flourishing economies until ……… U kw…. While the rest of Africa us a dark place. U tell me African state that has meant well for it’s people. What has Africa brought interms of global development and innovation. Kids from African ethnic backgrounds are the least performing of all minority groups even in the west let alone africa…… The list is endless…. Don’t get me rong am not racist i just see things and wonder.!!!!!
#32 Thanks for putting that loser ( #29 Max ) in his place. People really forget that the British had Zambia for 70 years and all they used it was to develop their country and protect their interest. Sad indeed for people stuck in the past.
This is just a joke, they will stop half way like they did in Chalala, Woodlands extension. They stopped paying the contractor and he stopped the work, all we were left with was dust in our homes which the contractor had put all over the streets in the estate. POLITICS
We all support such developments. But I m worried about the execution of the same projects. Most of you guys like Senior Citizen, A.s.s. Licker are exposed. Have you ever seen workers with picks on road construction sites ? Especially A.s.s Licker,SA is busy doing most of the major roads. Do you see such type of initial preps on sites? Most of us are outside the country and dont normally go home to see the state of our infrastructure. Its is a sorry sight. We need serious commitment not politics. I can bet all the roads mentioned above wont be done in the next two years.
All you nnegative pipo. hope for the best, even if you hate MMD, it is in our best interest as a nation. As for Chikwamu,# 46 what world do you live in? can you honstly tell me you have n0t seen any roads being done in the last few years. e.g. Godefrey Chitalu. Hary Mwaanaga Nkumbula, Katete to Chipata, Kalundu, Roma to Great North Road
Motsepe, the government has encouraged the use of manual lablur as a means as employment creation. And our private sector still faces challenges of equipment, this is especially so with the Zambian firms.
PMJ
Stop attacking other bloggers like a rabid dog.LT has used that picture a number of times
# 49 Its good to encourage manual labour hence job creation but its not in all sectors. Some projects are complex and require proper machinery. We need to support our Zambian firms who are capable of executing projects. We are talking about roads. We are not being negative but just calling a spade a spade. We have very capable Zambian companies to do such jobs but are sidelined due to corruption. Why should a road of about 70kms take more than two years to finish(Zimba-Livingstone). Do you know the impact it has on our economy? How do we promote our Vic falls if the MAIN road leading to the falls is bad? There is no way you can use PICK and FOSHOLO on such projects.
Those complaining about the equipment being used, kindly look at the caption on the picture again.
Motsepe, actually most Zambian companies lack capability due to lack of machinery and the hifg costs of doing bussiness(e,g, finance). As for the use of picks, shovels etc, this is supposed to be restricted to only parts of the project. For other parts machinery is used This i believe is also the Chinese way of doing things, they mix modern machinery with their hard working and cheap labour an they are ( the chinese) really expanding their infrastructure
Whether up grading of four Lusaka township roads to bituminous standard or not, change is coming!!!!!! RB and his gov are just doing what they are being paid for.(to Develop Zambia) period!
we shall vote for the pact in kabwata !!!
#49 what negativity are you talking about? do you live in Zambia anyway? Those five roads you are complimenting MMD are not even well done. We deserve better. We pay a lot of taxes to be subjected to the many roads that are all over Zambia. Do you own a car my friend? I am sure you use public transport and do not feel the pinch. Do apologise to the pipo
#40 pmj, so you do not want our ignorance, but only YOUR IGNORANCE to fill all the space on LT? Chibaba, ni agony.
Mandadude #56. I wil not answer the question of owning a car. I will stick to issues. What i was saying is there are roads that have been cosctructed in the past years and i mentioned some. I am also not happy with the quality of all of them ( but the roma to great north road is fine and so is Harry Mwaanga Nkumbula) but it is an improvement from the previous condition of those roads. That is what is called progress or development. Lets always demand the best but welcome all positive developments. :-w
#53 I dont think we need the so called CHINESE way of doing things at the moment. If we borrow such huge amounts of money for the projects, why settle for sub standard jobs? Are we chinese anway? As seen in that picture, I m sure there is some better equipment to assist at that stage not a PICK. Why cant you have the Zambian companies partner with experianced foreign companies to do the jobs if they dont have equipment? I support 53 # . To drive a car in Lusaka is a nightmare. My friend used his car one of the holidays and was asked if he went mountain climbing when he took it for service after the holidays.
we are still voting pact just make the roads for us so we can drive to the polling stations:d:d/
Well Motsepe, its always advisable to pick from cases around the world. And the Chinese are certainly really expanding their infrastructure so they can provide great lessons. As for the picks, i know that when RDA gives contracts it sometimes includes an element of manual labor for employment reasons as i said earlier. As for why the Zambian companies can not partner? well its a free market economy so private firms are left to make their own decision. Goverment can only infuence and not demand. i agere that some roads are a nightmare and that is why they should be worked on as is hapening but given the limited resources, there is no way that all roads will be first class in day or even in a decade. ( note our entire govt budget is only bout us$3.6 billion –
# 61 The Chinese are expanding but do they give us the same lessons/service? I m not against the chinese but we need the best not Fong Kong. The government should have strict policies on companies they give tenders to do such jobs. We know its a free market but the work has to be done properly. We are not saying that all roads should become world class but the ones being done now should be of good standards so that we have no extras costs and concentrate on other ones. And the other ponit is we can do better with the limited resources we have.
Well maybe i just wanted you to understand the complexities of the situation. It is easy to see faults but it is always advisable to getto understand as much as possible on a topic before passing judgement. Yes there is a lot that can be done better!! but as you probably know life has many complications and because of our diverse natures and factors dynamics these will always be different ways of approacing the same goals . Everyone ofcourse wants good standards , the challenge for every government around the world is achieving what in the different contexts are acceptable as good standards.
#6,10 an Senior Citizen u guys are foreva accusing us on the side of the fence of lacking intellectual capacity your favourite phase being “PF KAPONYAS”.
The last i checked it costs about 2 billion to tar a 1km of new road so the 34.9Billion released will do 17.45km.Which put in context is a distance from town to chainama.SO WHATS THE BIG DEAL??
Of cos its better then nothing, but a more focused goverment wud do far better.
I have nothing personal against RB infact i think his a gud man,but i aint luking 4 a gud man in plot 1 i want sum1 who will deliver. Both SATA and RB served as Governors of LUSAKA one left a make, and the other?? well what can i say………………………….
the Lilanda -Zingalume, George, Misisi roads are an eye sore.
Pipo, you’re arguing over nothing. That pic is from their archives and is just used as an illustration, not a pic of the new roads. In any case, you can use picks and shovels for some activities on a roads project – such as exposing some rocks in preparation for blasting. Why y’all jumping to conclusions!?
….and then what about the rest of the roads:-w.
$44 Your views betray you, you sound like an echo from the old colonial days.
As for the roads in Zambia, yes they are worked on, but improved conditions do not last. Most of the blame for this should be on contractors, Zambian or foreign, who seem to have the sad habit of cutting corners. We hear about such things as applying thin layers of asphalt, and pocketing the rest of the money. It looks like quality control is lacking by the people giving out these contracts.
#25 Patriot, that suggestion of uprooting the njanji railine was shot down as ZDA have advertised for someone to ran the defunct railine. the alternative is to construct a road on the sidelines of the powerlines that ran from loepalds hill main substation through woodlands extension, chalala, libala south, Kanwala south , Misisi and should hopefully join the new bypass road that joins kafue rd near shoprite wholesale.
The roads are budgeted for so no reason for praise worshiping, thats what is expected from a responsible govt, hope they won’t be funds diversions that will lead to works abandonement as has happened in Chalala! there is too much dust you would think you are in the Kalahari!
I always wonder why GRZ “sets aside”funds for development and spends on non priority things. For instance, it sets aside funds for medicine and spends on hearses! In this case, they have set aside funds for roads, which are neccessary, and one wonders what they will spend it on!!
Ubuthu, please take a walk to UTH and visit the chemist , tell me if you wont find patients collecting medicines….i dont mean the paying chemist but the chitu bwingi…….tell people the truth . Yes the hearses were wrongly spent on but UTH has medicine.
shape shooter,we live in a democratic world hence you can not tell me what to do,or how to do anything.keep your stu pid mouth on your bi tch katie good.Katie never has anything positive to say, come to think of it,u r full of sh it like she is.U seem to go round in circles like the dog u r,i have been observing your comments, they dont make sense, fit for a sick dog like u;like the dogs we currently have hounding the public.you and your fellow dogs need to be sh ot dead.
#44 Maxi,if i had the time, i would have properly answered your questions.U sound well read, hence you must have an understanding of current affairs in relation to how the west gives aid to africa, why african farmers can not compete with farmers in the developed world, the reason why the world has many protesters at the G8 meetings.Let me know when you have researched those questions, then we can continue this debate.in a nutshell,u r misguided.please look at stastics of how long africa has been independent compared to the developed world, also think of the impact of the slave trade.when u honestly come to a conclusion,u will see the error of your thinking.
#63. I left this 4u on the other thread: But as for “Nine Chale,”he began to blog on LT years back before most bloggers here did. About a year and half ago, Nine Chale posted a thread which was against the security of our country Zambia. This is what he wrote, “Let us change this Govt by any means.” I engaged him and told him that was wrong. He went ahead in reply to say the Govt should be changed by any means. I then tried to find out who the guy was.I found out who he was, it is not good for him to abuse his office by writing stuff to tempt other to do wrong in order for him report them. You feel me? Nine Chale is no good for blogging. Any one who is reading this give to Chale, and see if he is going to deny it. So you know who he is
PMJ, ofcourse I cant expect a person like you to find sense in my posting cos u urself is incapable of intelligent debate but always find solace in vulgar language like typical PF supporters. If u have problems with English, let me break it down for u,likening u to a Rabid Dog does not make you a dog but simply spells out irrationality in u which hampers ur ability to debate issues.
#75 Sharp Shooter, pmj did not find sense in what you wrote and I am pretty sure an intelligent person such as you knows why. There’s simply no sense in whatever you wrote. For other bloggers to see sense in whatever you are writing-next time try to mix your nonsense with some bit of sense.
The dog sharp shooter,i dont take kindly to being names and i have simply come DOWN to your level.Bring on real issues to debate but thinking that i wont insult you for insulting me, is taking me for granted like your fellow dogs in govt take for granted the zambian folk.i understand you have to make a living by by being stu pid, just dont think we are all like you.Steal as much as you can as you will be out in 2011 and just to reiterate, all you dogs need to be sh ot dead
PMJ
Ok ,Iam hereby extending a cease-fire.I know the statement did not go down well to you though never meant any malice but raising a concern. What makes me happy is your challenge to debating real issues as opposed to non-issues.We are Zambians but view things from different angles hence disagreements.I did not mean any offence and if you are offended,I apologise unreservedly and hope u will accept my apology.
#42 PMJ
Failure to grasp basic humour speaks volumes of ones intellect.Whether such projects are meant to score political points is immaterial. The fact that some form of development is taking place makes sense. It`s better such resources are chanelled towards developmental projects unlike buying voters cards from desperate citizens or wasting it on party cadres.
Here are some MUST READ books by Zambian writers: “How to be a shushushu on LT & remain anonymous” Nine Chale.”How to fight tall & big people” FTJ. “How to lose elections 3 times in life time but continue to try”. What of Matero township roads remember Matero has it own natural drainage system due to it’s slope
land hence the name Matero. It’s said if you havent been to Matero then you do not know Lusaka. Major things like Independence Stadium,Banks like stanbic,Barclays, even the chain store Shoprite are all there.Talk about major churches Even R.B ,Sata and FTJ do flock there. The only problem is the poor state of roads leading to these places. Why start with Kamwala south where it’s always water logged come rain season [-(is it a question of priority:-?
Sharp shooter, your apology has been accepted, chat soon on proper issues, take care
cheers,sharp shooter,never mind,apology accepted,many thks.Looking forward to more productive debates with you.take care
Lusaka needs better roads than mere mending the mentioned roads as if those are the only rds in lsk. They should have started with roads in George t/ship/kanyama/chawama/chunga!!!
they have started with those roas so that they can enjoy the loited money!!
>:/>:/:-?? ba pushe where have you been all this time, is it because we are almost nearing erections or sorry elections, poor mmd prefer buying micro phones worth 5 million a piece than repairing these dreadful roads:-b we stay in.Mind you no one is less than the other :-t time will tell very soon. alaabee vs shi micheal and he he
